Where To Eat Down The Shore: Long Beach Island - New York - The Infatuation

"Order any of the seven burgers at Wally’s, and your plate will arrive with fries, pickle chips, a burger, and another burger. Whether you get the one topped with pepper jack and jalapeños or the one with BBQ sauce and cheddar, you’ll get two burgers that are cooked in a cast-iron skillet for around $15. On the off chance that you need more reason to go to this diner in Surf City, they also serve great stuff at breakfast, like big pancakes filled with peanut butter and chocolate chips, and topped with chocolate, peanut sauce, and powdered sugar." - Matt Tervooren, Tonya Russell

I didn’t think anything was amazing, but everything was pretty solid as far as flavor and presentation. The soups were disappointing honestly, I expected more. They were just bland and needed salt or something. The scallops were very tasty. The way they were cooked was impressive. A great spot to go with a group. They more so specialize in breakfast meals, but the dinner is pretty good if you happen to be there during that time and they have something for everyone with the wide selection of well thought out dinner entrees.

My husband has been working out of state and all he talked about is going to Wallies! I finally brought him last night and my husband was a happy little kid again.. being on the island and eating at his favorite place with friendly servers and good food.. Definitely coming back Sunday after church! :) (Only got a pic of my food : Seafood Penna Pasta 10/10)

Google
The food was great! Loved the Cobb salad as the ranch dressing was homemade and the bacon was crispy. You’ll most likely need to get on their waiting list on a Saturday. We went there for lunch in July. If you’re on the waiting list and your table is ready. They won’t seat you unless the majority of your party is there. In our case 5 out of 6 were there. The last person was parking. It took at least 30 min to get served our food and my husband’s meal came late about 5 min after everyone’s else. It was busy during lunch. Great atmosphere and the waitress was friendly. The are only two single restrooms. There was line. They are pretty good but seem to get toilet paper on the floor a lot. And the area near the trash cans gets wet on the floor since that’s where they have the paper towels.

Google
This place is an absolute LBI gem. The menu is good. The best part is the appetizers and small bite menu. The appetizers are glorious. They are delicious, flavorful, craveable, and fun to share. The gochujang pork belly with kimchi was awesome. The cream cheese stuffed dates were awesome. The best deviled eggs in NJ, they were perfectly balanced. The pierogies have a great story attached and were delicious. The tuna entree was a lower quality previously frozen tuna steak - they tried, but... no one was conquering that dish... ironic on an island surrounded by the sea... Overall, very good, and thrilled it's BYOB!!!

Google
We chose Wally's for its convenient breakfast and lunch service. The staff provided a welcoming and positive experience, seating us promptly and serving our food in a timely manner. The restaurant's atmosphere was fun and relaxed. Wally's extensive menu, featuring many standard, vegan, and gluten-free options, made it quite the challenge to choose something. It all sounded ao good! Ultimately, our selections included the Aloha burger, pancakes, eggs, potato medley, and a strawberry poptart, all of which were exceptional. Wally's surpasses the typical dining establishment. In addition to dog-friendly outdoor seating with water bowls and bike rack outside of the restaurant, a percentage of proceeds from select menu items is donated to various charitable foundations and organizations. Overall, we highly recommend Wally's.

Google
Huge menu lots of choices. Great indoor outdoor dining. OK guys back for breakfast and wow what a hit. Huge portion size that will fill you up and get your day started. Large variety to pick from. Indoor or outdoor seat take your pick. Lots of kids and very pet welcoming. This is a must stop place on the island. Might have to hit it a 3rd time before heading home..

Google
The food here is always good and the staff are very attentive. They are well staffed and keep things moving. I love the spinach artichoke dip and the chicken avocado sandwich. I also love the fries as they are crispy and perfectly salted. My only complaint was that the bathrooms were a bit dirty, and there were a bunch of flies buzzing around. I did let someone know so hopefully that gets taken care of cause this is a really nice place. Their outdoor patio is beautiful and dog friendly!

Google
Today (29-Aug-2025) was our first time at Wally's. The place is cute- alot of open air out door tables. The food was amazing. We started with the homemade crumb cake - WOW!!. Ordered the Irish Benedict (homemade corned beef hash, poached eggs, homemade hollandaise on a toasted english muffin. My daughter ordered the banana and Nutella crepes. All the food was amazing. To add their coffee is roasted especially for them by a local coffee roaster and is amazing- I bought a pound of coffee beans to take home. As i said the crumb cake was amazing- bought 2 coffee cakes to take home (one I gave as a gift). The staff was probably the only thing better than the food! All around definitely deserving of 5 stars!! They are open all year- can't wait to go back and try dinner.

Yelp
Busy Saturday around 2pm, we got seated on the front patio, server was kind but took a while to get out orders in. We tried the crab cakes, which was good. But the star was Rhode Island style clam chowder. It was very flavorful, great ratio of clam to veggies to broth. Was well seasoned and we really enjoyed it. Looks like they added the patio art back and up front later so the entrance is a little narrow & difficult to enter/exit. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Really great breakfast here this morning wow. Freshest western omelette with side of homemade hash browns. Wife had the egg while omelette it was amazing. Coffee was weak and bitter but everything was amazing Little slow but very busy. Sat outside it was so perfect.

Yelp
We went to Wally's the other day and had a great breakfast! It was surprisingly busy for the off season, but we were able to be seated right away. We all enjoyed our dishes and they had great portion sizes. I had the blueberry pancakes and they were very fresh. We will be back again soon for more breakfasts in the future!

Yelp
Thank You for your generosity on Veterans Day the food and service was top notch as always.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast. I did the waitlist online and there was no wait. I ordered the garden omelet which was good and big. I ordered a side of fruit instead of toast and potatoes - the fruit was spoiled so I sent it back and just got the normal sides. For my son I ordered the kids egg and cheese burrito with a side of fruit and it was spoiled and had to send his fruit back. The fruit should have never left the kitchen, it was mushy, translucent and sour. Unfortunately this spoiled the whole meal/ dining experience. My son liked his burrito. We wanted to ordered the strawberry pop tart but they didn't have any. When the bill came the omelet was $1.50 more than listed on the menu, not sure why.

Yelp
Wally's is one of our absolute favorite places to go on LBI! The food is always top-notch, and the atmosphere makes every visit feel special. The whipped ricotta appetizer is hands down the best thing ever -- we can't go without ordering it. From start to finish, every meal at Wally's is an awesome experience and one of the reasons we keep coming back again and again.

Yelp
After a long drive and some time at the beach to end the day , our family stopped at Wally's for dinner. We kept it simple and ordered some burgers, and they came out cooked to perfection and to our surprise it came with 2 individual burgers. The standout for me was their whiskey burger! Now after dinner we have their crumb cake a try which was excellent, their toast it on the grill with butter. We also loved their collaboration with the local coffee shop, Yellow Dog. Our toddler especially loved the friendly young staff and the bendy straws they gave him, which just added to the warm, welcoming vibe. Wally's is a true gem on LBI, and we'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Came in for a quick Sunday breakfast at 11am, the place was recommended by a local in the area. We were greeted and waited about 10mins, the lovely server got a table in the open patio area. I ordered eggs benedict with cornbeef hash and potatoes. Came with a side of fresh fruit. Right to the point, the place is packed, the use of restrooms, you get on the line and wait. The size of this restaurant, needs more bayhrooms. There should be another restroom in the patio even if its only urinals. Restroom needed a bit of love, but it was ok. We parked right outside with little or no wait. Food came out pretty quick, my wife wanted a blue berry muffin. Apparently they ran out of them, got a corn muffin but it took about 15 mins to get the muffins with her sunny side eggs. Bummer. Having to wait. Overall a pretty good experience, now we know for the next time, friendly staff and good food.

Yelp
Went on a breakfast journey on the last few weeks and the top two that stood out was Wally's and LBI Table. Highly recommend.... Expect a wait but if it's good on the island - you are going to wait a bit.... It's worth it!!!!

Yelp
Delicious food, great ambience and wonderful service. We love their crumb cake. It's so nice to have outside seating. Our dog loves coming with us.

George S.

Yelp
We had the Winter Lunch Specials-!1/2 sandwich and soup. The grilled cheese and pulled pork were delicious. The Rhode Island chowder was very filling and tasty. The Butternut bisque was awesome. The service was very good and we ate in the old dining room which was perfect.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful experience! Great fresh food and fun menu choices. Found it be accident and thought we'd give it a try!

Yelp
Wally's is easily one of my favorite breakfast spots on LBI. There is a huge variety on the menu and they always seem to be making updates and additions to keep things current. On top of the food being great, they also have delicious coffee that is serving piping hot every time. The service is friendly and everyone always makes you feel like they are happy to have you there. On top of the breakfast, they also have some great clam chowder! And although I've never had it, their crumb cake looks incredible. They have to go portions available for purchase and I'm always tempted. Overall, Wally's is a solid family friendly spot that I would recommend to everyone.
google avatar

Yelp
I take my family to Wally's quite often in the Summer and their breakfasts have great variety and good quality. You can go online to reserve seating and learn how long the wait will be so you can time leaving home to avoid standing in line like a lot of places. It's been an LBI favorite for decades and since they expanded it's gotten even better with outdoor seating as well. Just be aware of the managers who has a Dallas star tattoo on his arm, poor guy. Actually he is a good guy and you can do some friendly bantering with him. Unusual from a Cowboys fan

shelley J.

Yelp
The staff was friendly, and the ambience was certainly adequate. My biggest complaint is that all of the food was not served hot. We each had a bowl of chowder. One of us had the New England. The other had the Long Island and the chowder tasted good. But it was served warm at best Then he had boneless wings and I got a burger and an upcharge to sweet potato fries were cold but over done/ blackened, all of which were served above room temperature but not hot. I always prefer to leave restaurants positive, good reviews, but this one did not hit the mark of what a lunch should be . I'm not trying to be rude, but you can't cook food cold. Servers were not on their game being aware of when the food was hot & ready for table service.

Yelp
We liked Wally's so much we went back a 2nd time this week on vacation! The chicken a avocado sandwich was a fav and 3 of us got this and another got the vegan version, all were great! My daughter got the vegan Philly cheese steak and that was perhaps the surprise hit of the night! 3 of us non-vegans tried and loved it! Our waiter, Landon was tip top as well! Ambiance is sort of outdoor with protected roof and diner casual! Wally's fresh made coffee cake is so good that we bought and finished one on Wednesday and bought a second one tonight/Saturday!

she ..

Yelp
The manager/owner on duty this morning was a total jerk! Made me stand & wait before acknowledging me, then proceeded to ask if I needed anything? I wanted to say I'm dropping my car off for an oil change! Why else would I be standing here?? He hands me a menu & points at an empty table & says there's a table there without escorting me to the table. About a minute later a couple walks in, he greets them as a customer normally should be greeted, asks how many in the party and leads them to a table. That's the moment I got up and stormed out & told him I didn't like his attitude. No way am I going to patronize any business after being treated like a second class citizen! I work two jobs that requires me to kiss everyone's behind day in and day out. Not getting my hard earned money, Screw them!!

Yelp
Amazing amazing amazing. Was not expecting such good food, especially during the off season months, but this spot blew us away. The staff was amazing and welcoming and attentive. The food was fresh and tasty and exactly what we were looking for. Perfect spot for any meal and any type of family.

Matt S.

Yelp
We stopped into Wally's for a late morning / early afternoon meal and had a great experience. Our group of nine was split between breakfast and lunch orders, and everything we tried was fresh, well-prepared, and generously portioned. The staff was attentive from the moment we arrived - friendly, and on top of everything. The space itself is clean, nicely laid out, and has a comfortable, welcoming feel. We did not have a chance to use the outside area in the rear although that looked very nice. It was an easy, enjoyable meal, and we've made a note to return the next time we are in town. A solid spot that delivers on food, service, price and atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
The Gluten-free fruit crêpes are the best! For all who avoid gluten, I highly recommend it here. They have a full gluten-free menu with so many options unlike other places that only have two or three items. Our server was attentive, pleasant, and super nice.

Sophia K.

Yelp
Favorite restaurant on the island as a gluten free gal! Definitely recommend!!! Coconut shrimp is amazinggg Being dog friendly makes it even better.
google avatar

Nicholas D.

Yelp
Just so good it is crazy Service that hasn't been anything less than great for 15+ years Quality super Prices fair Ambiance is fine Not a better breakfast spot on the Island

Joseph P.

Yelp
Aside from the extreme heat and a little foul smell in the outdoor area, my wife and I with our friends enjoyed the food and service. The food was served very quickly and was excellent.. A special call out goes to our waiter Ian, who was very knowledgeable and provided all of us with great service and care . With the excessive heat, Ian was hustling all around the restaurant. We will return next year. Thank you
google avatar

Deirdre C.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late breakfast on a Saturday in late September. We were seated right away. They were definitely busy as most tables were full. For being busy it wasn't terribly loud, which I really like. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the biscuits and gravy and my friend had the creamed chopped beef, which she thought was great! They serve coffee from a local company. I like when local businesses support other local businesses. I had a cold brew that was great!! Next time I'm in Long Beach Island I'll be back!!

Yelp
Food and service is good . This is a solid 3.5 star restaurant I tried to do a half star but it did not Work . I think 4 stars are for restaurants that are that good . Not to knock this place it's a very good family place . Had burgers and a pasta dish . Kids were happy with the burgers they give you 2 .

Yelp
Good food at this busy spot in Surf City. It's a standalone building on Boulevard. There's outdoor seating out front and also in a central courtyard. 2 indoor dining areas to the left and right of the entrance. Parking is at a premium since the on-street parking accommodates beach-goers in addition to patrons of the restaurants and shops in the area. Reservations are helpful for dinner. Our party of 15 people (!) was accommodated with a flourish - clearly this spot sees plenty of big families on vacation down the shore. Kyle was our server, with the help of a platoon of help. Thanks for a great job - all of the orders were delivered as ordered, simultaneously. No easy feat with that many people. There are a few items on the specially annotated gluten-free menu. One that we tried, the shrimp tacos, is really really good. 3 tacos to a serving. Bed of lettuce, fresh diced Jersey tomato, salsa verde, red onion and shredded cheese with a couple of plump, perfectly sauteed shrimp and topped with a lime crema sauce. Shrimp was delicious, veggies fresh. Yum. Also tried Ahi tuna. A plump fresh tuna steak is sprinkled with sesame seeds and seared, served with spinach mashed potatoes and sauteed veggies. To me, tuna steak is ideal when it's very rare - a sear on the outside and raw on the inside. This entrée was a little overdone for me, with the steak closer to medium. It was tasty, but not as good as it could have been. Maybe 3 out of 5 for this one. A fun place to go while you're at the beach - good food, great service.
google avatar

Roy B.

Yelp
One of the classier places to eat in LBI, this was a meal that was delicious and the service matched in pleasantness and friendliness. We hate a lighter lunch and everything came out as ordered and they took special care to feed and give a drink to our daughter first. You may sit either inside or outside depending on availability and umbrellas and canopies will protect you from the sun. Prices were fair for the quality of the food and the beach-flair dining experience.
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
Wally's is just one of those places that is consistently good. Like all the time. Came here for breakfast - hubby had the South of the Border Burrito, we split the Lemon Blueberry Ricotta Crepes, and I had the Trenton Benedict. All were incredibly delicious. The Burrito was packed with flavor, eggs on the Benedict were perfectly cooked, and the crepes were perfectly balanced and light! The servers are always so helpful and nice, and they always provide the alternate menu options (Gluten Free & Vegan!). I also love that they always have sections on their menu where a portion of those sales go to charities, etc. #DoGoodThings!
google avatar

Erika T.

Yelp
They get points/stars for having the online ordering system work, as well as the staff to do takeout, during the shoulder seasons. Another point on how fast I got my order. As for the food itself...omelette was okay, toast was over buttered, home potatoes over seasoned.
google avatar

Mau P.

Yelp
Crumb cake is not good, odd after taste. Home fries had odd seasoning, and weren't to my liking. Their bagels are more roll than bagel. Server was gruff . No reason to return

Julie S.

Yelp
Always have great gluten free options! Great every season. Love the outdoor seating. Always has the best service!
google avatar

Yelp
Completely disappointed with this restaurant. I had high hopes for this place, it had the best ratings around, many places within a few blocks had much lower ratings. So I expected some great food. When I pulled up the place looked great it was people in line and very expensive cars parked all around, my hopes were high . Unfortunately all my culinary dreams dissolved when the soup appetizer came out, it claimed to be an award-winning chowder recently winning first prize. But what I received was a lottery end of the pot bowl of soup specs and pieces... Basically broth with a bunch of leftover bits and pieces from the soup. Then my dining partner received scallops which were supposed to be for giant bass scallops which came out were six tiny scallops completely overcooked rubbery and coded with black pepper, the salt level was so high the dish was un edible. We complained to the waitress, she understood and offered us free dessert as a consolation. I could say some positive comments, like the waitress was very nice, the decor was very good, our hostess who greeted us was super friendly... And the other patrons in the restaurant seemed very nice, friendly and approachable for random conversations... Unfortunately this review should be about Food not about the company I held... And unfortunately that food was horrible.... Luckily I was able to find some amazing places to eat on the island. Check out my reviews to find out where .

Yelp
This place is decent for a quick basic breakfast or lunch. You get the vibe the entire staff is kids who dont want to be there but it is summer on the island so I'd hate to work there too. Our food tasted good. Mozzarella sticks were great Cheese steak was ok, the fries are crappy quality/taste(mgmt. get crinkle cut fries ) Bang bang shrimp appetizer thing was good and larger than expected Shrimp bon mi looked good except they forgot to put any shrimp in it( how does that happen?) then when we told them Instead of just taking the messed up sandwich away and bringing a proper new one, they carry out a few shrimp on a plate, like here make it yourself?! Wtf is that? Kinda uncool Wallys. Do stuff right. Go the crumb cake to go from the front lobby and that was the best part of this place for sure. Go here but skip the appetizers, it ends up being too much food once your main lunch arrives(even without the shrimp in it) and just get your lunch and head out to explore the island. 4 stars cause our waitress was really nice. On our way out another waitress was bitching and complaining about her job as loud as she could. I thought it was funny but if it was my restaurant she would a been fired that second. Not cool for your customers to think the staff hates working there, makes you question what might be going on behind the scenes in the kitchen. Like maybe this chick hates the place so much she decided a secret plan to steal the shrimp from our sandwich just kidding but ya know, it's a basic lunch place. Most places on the island seem to be like this. Dont expect greatness anywhere on lbi, it's a beach town kinda place that thrives on summer tourism.

Mary M.

Yelp
excellent service atmosphere and food- hit or miss disappointment- the greek salad. Canned pre-sliced olives on romain, no thinly sliced onions, another disappointing dish- bland fettuccine.. I was surprised because some items truly exceptional , poached pears, avocado egg-roll were very good, ahi tuna sandwich also good..

Yelp
We found our new favorite breakfast spot on LBI! Our friends took us and we were pleasantly greeted by staff and were able to be seated at an outdoor table (which is a very spacious outdoor seating space). We ordered the grilled crumb cake which was heavenly! I thought I knew good crumb cake before but after eating this I realize I did not. We also got chocolate chip pancakes and an apple cinnamon crepe to all share. All were delicious. I ordered a garden omelette which was delicious...and the potatoes it comes with were by far the best breakfast potatoes I've had...even my husband agree and he knows food. The waitress was super pleasant. You can bring dogs if you sit outside (our favorite). We are so excited to go back and try their lunch and dinner menu...heard great things! Highly recommend next time you are in Long Beach Island!

Yelp
The strong positives first: new (a year old expansion) big beautiful setting especially the large outdoor. Great exceptional service: tons of staff, very friendly every single person, so clean, fast. Don't like a dish? Easy return, no charge. Creative options - not just butter, pecan butter! If you are vegan and gluten-free, this is your place! The negatives: the steel cut oatmeal is somehow impossibly like gruel, David Copperfield level. The coffee is bad Keurig-like. Great service means they freely offer you a coffee to go. But you don't want it. Ah, the paradox of Wally's!

Linda S.

Yelp
Great chicken salad on lettuce. Service was great and atmosphere is great as well. Definitely a great place for lunch.

Susan B.

Yelp
Great menu. Caring service. Nice ambiance. Lots of gluten free choices. Our reliable go-to.
google avatar

Cynthia V.

Yelp
Breakfast is always great. My granddaughters need vegan food because they're allergic to milk and eggs and I am gluten-free. It's great to be able to go a place where they can serve. Both of our needs. The staff is really friendly and food delicious.

Yelp
Out-of-town-er review We got a couple clam chowders, chicken tenders, fries, vegan chicken burgers and vegan meat burgers. We probably will be back again before exiting town. - Convenient location and parking is simple - Large dining area with casual feel - The food is reliably good and packaged very well for take away - Only spot we food that serves food for different diets - Service is ultra slow but not a shocker, we experience that in beach towns - Prices are reasonable - Service was straight forward

Yelp
We love everything we have ever ordered there. We just moved to the area and have been there several times already. They sell delicious crumb cakes and you should definitely take one to go.

Craig K.

Yelp
The server Jen was delightful, the outside seating was lovely and the appetizer I had a pork Bulgogi with lettuce to wrap around and kim chi on the side, a very tasty reminder of my year spent in Seoul and the Ahi Tuna rare on a delicious roll with assorted veggies excellent.

Yelp
What a treat!! The fried coffee cake melts in your mouth and is not overly sweet. It is a must for a starter. We were treated to an order of the lemon ricotta blueberry crepes. They dug in so quickly and they were so delicious we didn't even have time to take a photo. I was split between those and the Irish Eggs Benedict but on the recommendation of the super friendly chef, I went with the Benedict and am so happy I did and still got to try the crepes!! There are two rooms, one was full and louder the other only had three full tables and was much quieter. We were able to socialize with our table of 8 and hear each other. We were on the side of the kitchen and were graced with entertainment from the chef. You can tell how much he loves his restaurant. Highly recommend!!

Paschalis C.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about this place ,Great atmosphere, friendly staff but best of all great food their chili is literally the best I've ever had and we left with crumb cake that was heavenly!!!! If I could give more stars I would
google avatar

Yelp
There's a slight chill in the air the kids are back at school, the adults are back at work and I find myself at Wally's again. The salmon eggs Benedict are always on the money the Belgian waffles were light and fluffy and I decided to try their homemade crumb cake. Once again I'm never disappointed when I eat here. The crumb cakes bottom was buttery and moist and the crumbs were buttery and melted in my mouth our waitress Shayla she was awesome and super friendly, I will definitely be back here again.

Yelp
Excellent lunch at Wally's thank you for honoring Veterans and their spouses as well.

Yelp
I am hesitant to ever leave reviews like this, but I feel like I had no choice after my most recent visit here, on a Thursday mid-morning. We came by with our Airedale Terrier, assuming it would be no problem to sit outside with her, as Wally's had been very friendly with dogs in the past. The host at the podium told us to pick a table either in the front or back, somewhat coldly, and we sat down as suggested. Not long after, a couple entered, they got seated gleefully, and immediately got waited on, both for their drink order and their food order. Meanwhile, no one ever came over to us. We waited a good 5 to 10 minutes afterward, nary even a check up (they were not busy whatsoever), so we just got up and left. I don't know if it was because of our dog, but if that is the case, make your policy clear. I am beyond understanding to the recent issues in the service industry, but there was to me, no excuse for this. They missed out on a big order, and I can't say we'll be back anytime soon.

Yelp
THEY HAVE A VEGAN MENU! May I repeat... they have a vegan menu. Do you know how surprised I was when they asked me if I wanted a vegan menu? I was expecting to order some salad, but alas... a whole darn menu!!! We got the "chicken" parm... omg it was amazing. I almost asked if it wasn't real chicken...the fries that came with it were incredible... but. THE STAR OF THE SHOW... drum roll please... was the Philly cheese steak. The Vegan Philly cheese steak. They make their own seitan! And man they do a good job. It was incredible. I'm so happy with this place. Our waiter was super super super nice. Really liked her, and she did a great job. the vibe was great, we sat outside.

Yelp
Wally's was absolutely amazing! The food was outstanding. The Blackened Chicken Alfredo was creamy and the garlic bread that came with it was phenomenal. Our waiter was quick and attentive to our table as well. We sat outside and it was such a beautiful evening. I would recommend Wally's to anyone staying in LBI!
