Where To Eat Down The Shore: Long Beach Island - New York - The Infatuation

"Order any of the seven burgers at Wally’s, and your plate will arrive with fries, pickle chips, a burger, and another burger. Whether you get the one topped with pepper jack and jalapeños or the one with BBQ sauce and cheddar, you’ll get two burgers that are cooked in a cast-iron skillet for around $15. On the off chance that you need more reason to go to this diner in Surf City, they also serve great stuff at breakfast, like big pancakes filled with peanut butter and chocolate chips, and topped with chocolate, peanut sauce, and powdered sugar." - Matt Tervooren, Tonya Russell

Wally’s Review - Long Beach Island - Jersey Shore - The Infatuation

We chose Wally's for its convenient breakfast and lunch service. The staff provided a welcoming and positive experience, seating us promptly and serving our food in a timely manner. The restaurant's atmosphere was fun and relaxed. Wally's extensive menu, featuring many standard, vegan, and gluten-free options, made it quite the challenge to choose something. It all sounded ao good! Ultimately, our selections included the Aloha burger, pancakes, eggs, potato medley, and a strawberry poptart, all of which were exceptional. Wally's surpasses the typical dining establishment. In addition to dog-friendly outdoor seating with water bowls and bike rack outside of the restaurant, a percentage of proceeds from select menu items is donated to various charitable foundations and organizations. Overall, we highly recommend Wally's.

The food was great! Loved the Cobb salad as the ranch dressing was homemade and the bacon was crispy. You’ll most likely need to get on their waiting list on a Saturday. We went there for lunch in July. If you’re on the waiting list and your table is ready. They won’t seat you unless the majority of your party is there. In our case 5 out of 6 were there. The last person was parking. It took at least 30 min to get served our food and my husband’s meal came late about 5 min after everyone’s else. It was busy during lunch. Great atmosphere and the waitress was friendly. The are only two single restrooms. There was line. They are pretty good but seem to get toilet paper on the floor a lot. And the area near the trash cans gets wet on the floor since that’s where they have the paper towels.

This place is an absolute LBI gem. The menu is good. The best part is the appetizers and small bite menu. The appetizers are glorious. They are delicious, flavorful, craveable, and fun to share. The gochujang pork belly with kimchi was awesome. The cream cheese stuffed dates were awesome. The best deviled eggs in NJ, they were perfectly balanced. The pierogies have a great story attached and were delicious. The tuna entree was a lower quality previously frozen tuna steak - they tried, but... no one was conquering that dish... ironic on an island surrounded by the sea... Overall, very good, and thrilled it's BYOB!!!

Google
The food here is always good and the staff are very attentive. They are well staffed and keep things moving. I love the spinach artichoke dip and the chicken avocado sandwich. I also love the fries as they are crispy and perfectly salted. My only complaint was that the bathrooms were a bit dirty, and there were a bunch of flies buzzing around. I did let someone know so hopefully that gets taken care of cause this is a really nice place. Their outdoor patio is beautiful and dog friendly!

They accommodated our large group of 16. While it took 30 minutes after the time they told us to get us seated, it was not entirely their fault as another table they were going to use was being rather slow. Once we all sat, our waiter Ryan was very attentive and bringing us water, wine glasses, and silverware immediately. Our appetizers were delicious and came out quick. We didn’t get two salads that were meant to come with the apps but they did come out with our meals. The meals were amazing. Something on the menu for our vegetarian and gluten free members. Ryan once again made sure everyone had everything and retrieved missing items. He even offered to take a picture of us all together. The manager came over to apologize for the longer than expected wait and for the salads coming out late, and even helped make up for it with a free small plate. Some small hiccups, but this was a great family outing with delicious food and great service from Ryan.

My friends and I decided to come to Wallys for a quick bite and I’ll just say the experience was far greater than we expected. Linda was our server, she was a wonderful, compassionate, and kind person to be around. Linda gave us great recommendations for food off the dinner menu. Her sense of humor and hospitality made the experience much more enjoyable and comfortable. She also refilled our pita with the spinach artichoke dip-with no charge. The food was top-notch, definitely not something you would expect from a shore restaurant. The service was excellent with waiting times of 5-10 minutes. I definitely recommend getting the Miso Sea Bass… By far my favourite dish off the menu. I hope this restaurant continues to thrive and grow because it was an amazing experience… and we thank Linda for that.

Google
Mothers day brunch...Food was excellent! Service as well. A tad on the pricey side, but it is ON LBI, so that is to be expected. We sat outdoors, which is nice but they need a sail system. for overhead protection from the sun, which would also bring in some much-needed ambiance to the otherwise barren patio.

Google
Had a lovely meal at Wally's with my son during our LBI trip. The star of the show was definitely the Nutella crepes - they were absolutely amazing and beautifully prepared. My son couldn't stop raving about them! For the price point, they're a fantastic value and really hit the spot. I opted for the avocado toast, which was solid and well-prepared, though nothing particularly unique compared to other places. Still tasty and fresh. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, perfect for a beachside meal. Just a heads up that the seating is primarily outdoors, so if you're visiting on a hot day, be prepared to work up a bit of a sweat while you eat. It's worth it though, especially for those incredible crepes! Overall, a nice spot with great value, especially if you're craving some excellent crepes. We'll definitely be back on our next LBI visit!

Yelp
Wonderful experience! Great fresh food and fun menu choices. Found it be accident and thought we'd give it a try!

Yelp
Came in for a quick Sunday breakfast at 11am, the place was recommended by a local in the area. We were greeted and waited about 10mins, the lovely server got a table in the open patio area. I ordered eggs benedict with cornbeef hash and potatoes. Came with a side of fresh fruit. Right to the point, the place is packed, the use of restrooms, you get on the line and wait. The size of this restaurant, needs more bayhrooms. There should be another restroom in the patio even if its only urinals. Restroom needed a bit of love, but it was ok. We parked right outside with little or no wait. Food came out pretty quick, my wife wanted a blue berry muffin. Apparently they ran out of them, got a corn muffin but it took about 15 mins to get the muffins with her sunny side eggs. Bummer. Having to wait. Overall a pretty good experience, now we know for the next time, friendly staff and good food.

Yelp
Went on a breakfast journey on the last few weeks and the top two that stood out was Wally's and LBI Table. Highly recommend.... Expect a wait but if it's good on the island - you are going to wait a bit.... It's worth it!!!!

Joseph P.

Yelp
Aside from the extreme heat and a little foul smell in the outdoor area, my wife and I with our friends enjoyed the food and service. The food was served very quickly and was excellent.. A special call out goes to our waiter Ian, who was very knowledgeable and provided all of us with great service and care . With the excessive heat, Ian was hustling all around the restaurant. We will return next year. Thank you

Yelp
Wally's is easily one of my favorite breakfast spots on LBI. There is a huge variety on the menu and they always seem to be making updates and additions to keep things current. On top of the food being great, they also have delicious coffee that is serving piping hot every time. The service is friendly and everyone always makes you feel like they are happy to have you there. On top of the breakfast, they also have some great clam chowder! And although I've never had it, their crumb cake looks incredible. They have to go portions available for purchase and I'm always tempted. Overall, Wally's is a solid family friendly spot that I would recommend to everyone.

Yelp
Great chicken salad on lettuce. Service was great and atmosphere is great as well. Definitely a great place for lunch.

Yelp
The Gluten-free fruit crêpes are the best! For all who avoid gluten, I highly recommend it here. They have a full gluten-free menu with so many options unlike other places that only have two or three items. Our server was attentive, pleasant, and super nice.

Yelp
Amazing amazing amazing. Was not expecting such good food, especially during the off season months, but this spot blew us away. The staff was amazing and welcoming and attentive. The food was fresh and tasty and exactly what we were looking for. Perfect spot for any meal and any type of family.

Yelp
Crumb cake is not good, odd after taste. Home fries had odd seasoning, and weren't to my liking. Their bagels are more roll than bagel. Server was gruff . No reason to return

Susan B.

Yelp
Great menu. Caring service. Nice ambiance. Lots of gluten free choices. Our reliable go-to.

Yelp
Just so good it is crazy Service that hasn't been anything less than great for 15+ years Quality super Prices fair Ambiance is fine Not a better breakfast spot on the Island

Not to knock this place it's a very good family place . Had burgers and a pasta dish . Kids were happy with the burgers they give you 2 .

Yelp
Stopped in for a late breakfast on a Saturday in late September. We were seated right away. They were definitely busy as most tables were full. For being busy it wasn't terribly loud, which I really like. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the biscuits and gravy and my friend had the creamed chopped beef, which she thought was great! They serve coffee from a local company. I like when local businesses support other local businesses. I had a cold brew that was great!! Next time I'm in Long Beach Island I'll be back!!
google avatar

Erika T.

Yelp
They get points/stars for having the online ordering system work, as well as the staff to do takeout, during the shoulder seasons. Another point on how fast I got my order. As for the food itself...omelette was okay, toast was over buttered, home potatoes over seasoned.

Yelp
Wally's is just one of those places that is consistently good. Like all the time. Came here for breakfast - hubby had the South of the Border Burrito, we split the Lemon Blueberry Ricotta Crepes, and I had the Trenton Benedict. All were incredibly delicious. The Burrito was packed with flavor, eggs on the Benedict were perfectly cooked, and the crepes were perfectly balanced and light! The servers are always so helpful and nice, and they always provide the alternate menu options (Gluten Free & Vegan!). I also love that they always have sections on their menu where a portion of those sales go to charities, etc. #DoGoodThings!

Yelp
Good food at this busy spot in Surf City. It's a standalone building on Boulevard. There's outdoor seating out front and also in a central courtyard. 2 indoor dining areas to the left and right of the entrance. Parking is at a premium since the on-street parking accommodates beach-goers in addition to patrons of the restaurants and shops in the area. Reservations are helpful for dinner. Our party of 15 people (!) was accommodated with a flourish - clearly this spot sees plenty of big families on vacation down the shore. Kyle was our server, with the help of a platoon of help. Thanks for a great job - all of the orders were delivered as ordered, simultaneously. No easy feat with that many people. There are a few items on the specially annotated gluten-free menu. One that we tried, the shrimp tacos, is really really good. 3 tacos to a serving. Bed of lettuce, fresh diced Jersey tomato, salsa verde, red onion and shredded cheese with a couple of plump, perfectly sauteed shrimp and topped with a lime crema sauce. Shrimp was delicious, veggies fresh. Yum. Also tried Ahi tuna. A plump fresh tuna steak is sprinkled with sesame seeds and seared, served with spinach mashed potatoes and sauteed veggies. To me, tuna steak is ideal when it's very rare - a sear on the outside and raw on the inside. This entrée was a little overdone for me, with the steak closer to medium. It was tasty, but not as good as it could have been. Maybe 3 out of 5 for this one. A fun place to go while you're at the beach - good food, great service.

Yelp
One of the classier places to eat in LBI, this was a meal that was delicious and the service matched in pleasantness and friendliness. We hate a lighter lunch and everything came out as ordered and they took special care to feed and give a drink to our daughter first. You may sit either inside or outside depending on availability and umbrellas and canopies will protect you from the sun. Prices were fair for the quality of the food and the beach-flair dining experience.

Yelp
Completely disappointed with this restaurant. I had high hopes for this place, it had the best ratings around, many places within a few blocks had much lower ratings. So I expected some great food. When I pulled up the place looked great it was people in line and very expensive cars parked all around, my hopes were high . Unfortunately all my culinary dreams dissolved when the soup appetizer came out, it claimed to be an award-winning chowder recently winning first prize. But what I received was a lottery end of the pot bowl of soup specs and pieces... Basically broth with a bunch of leftover bits and pieces from the soup. Then my dining partner received scallops which were supposed to be for giant bass scallops which came out were six tiny scallops completely overcooked rubbery and coded with black pepper, the salt level was so high the dish was un edible. We complained to the waitress, she understood and offered us free dessert as a consolation. I could say some positive comments, like the waitress was very nice, the decor was very good, our hostess who greeted us was super friendly... And the other patrons in the restaurant seemed very nice, friendly and approachable for random conversations... Unfortunately this review should be about Food not about the company I held... And unfortunately that food was horrible.... Luckily I was able to find some amazing places to eat on the island. Check out my reviews to find out where .

Yelp
We found our new favorite breakfast spot on LBI! Our friends took us and we were pleasantly greeted by staff and were able to be seated at an outdoor table (which is a very spacious outdoor seating space). We ordered the grilled crumb cake which was heavenly! I thought I knew good crumb cake before but after eating this I realize I did not. We also got chocolate chip pancakes and an apple cinnamon crepe to all share. All were delicious. I ordered a garden omelette which was delicious...and the potatoes it comes with were by far the best breakfast potatoes I've had...even my husband agree and he knows food. The waitress was super pleasant. You can bring dogs if you sit outside (our favorite). We are so excited to go back and try their lunch and dinner menu...heard great things! Highly recommend next time you are in Long Beach Island!

Yelp
The strong positives first: new (a year old expansion) big beautiful setting especially the large outdoor. Great exceptional service: tons of staff, very friendly every single person, so clean, fast. Don't like a dish? Easy return, no charge. Creative options - not just butter, pecan butter! If you are vegan and gluten-free, this is your place! The negatives: the steel cut oatmeal is somehow impossibly like gruel, David Copperfield level. The coffee is bad Keurig-like. Great service means they freely offer you a coffee to go. But you don't want it. Ah, the paradox of Wally's!

Lolita N.

Yelp
Suzanne was amazing! Super attentive and an absolute sweetheart. Food and vibes were great as well.
google avatar

Yelp
There's a slight chill in the air the kids are back at school, the adults are back at work and I find myself at Wally's again. The salmon eggs Benedict are always on the money the Belgian waffles were light and fluffy and I decided to try their homemade crumb cake. Once again I'm never disappointed when I eat here. The crumb cakes bottom was buttery and moist and the crumbs were buttery and melted in my mouth our waitress Shayla she was awesome and super friendly, I will definitely be back here again.
google avatar

Cynthia V.

Yelp
Breakfast is always great. My granddaughters need vegan food because they're allergic to milk and eggs and I am gluten-free. It's great to be able to go a place where they can serve. Both of our needs. The staff is really friendly and food delicious.
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
We love everything we have ever ordered there. We just moved to the area and have been there several times already. They sell delicious crumb cakes and you should definitely take one to go.
google avatar

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about this place ,Great atmosphere, friendly staff but best of all great food their chili is literally the best I've ever had and we left with crumb cake that was heavenly!!!! If I could give more stars I would

Yelp
Out-of-town-er review We got a couple clam chowders, chicken tenders, fries, vegan chicken burgers and vegan meat burgers. We probably will be back again before exiting town. - Convenient location and parking is simple - Large dining area with casual feel - The food is reliably good and packaged very well for take away - Only spot we food that serves food for different diets - Service is ultra slow but not a shocker, we experience that in beach towns - Prices are reasonable - Service was straight forward

Yelp
Excellent lunch at Wally's thank you for honoring Veterans and their spouses as well.

Yelp
What a treat!! The fried coffee cake melts in your mouth and is not overly sweet. It is a must for a starter. We were treated to an order of the lemon ricotta blueberry crepes. They dug in so quickly and they were so delicious we didn't even have time to take a photo. I was split between those and the Irish Eggs Benedict but on the recommendation of the super friendly chef, I went with the Benedict and am so happy I did and still got to try the crepes!! There are two rooms, one was full and louder the other only had three full tables and was much quieter. We were able to socialize with our table of 8 and hear each other. We were on the side of the kitchen and were graced with entertainment from the chef. You can tell how much he loves his restaurant. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Wally's was absolutely amazing! The food was outstanding. The Blackened Chicken Alfredo was creamy and the garlic bread that came with it was phenomenal. Our waiter was quick and attentive to our table as well. We sat outside and it was such a beautiful evening. I would recommend Wally's to anyone staying in LBI!

George S.

Yelp
The breakfast variety at Wally's is bountiful. I have had the Jersey Benedict a few times and each time it gets better. The potatoes are done just right and tasty. The wait staff is friendly and very attentive. I had the Trenton sandwich today. It was tasty and came with delicious home fries. I had an egg white omelette with ham and cheese. French Toast was also ordered. Both breakfasts were very

Eric S.

Yelp
Food and service was excellent, had a burger and it was delicious!!! The pickles were spicy and sweet yum yum!

Yelp
I am hesitant to ever leave reviews like this, but I feel like I had no choice after my most recent visit here, on a Thursday mid-morning. We came by with our Airedale Terrier, assuming it would be no problem to sit outside with her, as Wally's had been very friendly with dogs in the past. The host at the podium told us to pick a table either in the front or back, somewhat coldly, and we sat down as suggested. Not long after, a couple entered, they got seated gleefully, and immediately got waited on, both for their drink order and their food order. Meanwhile, no one ever came over to us. We waited a good 5 to 10 minutes afterward, nary even a check up (they were not busy whatsoever), so we just got up and left. I don't know if it was because of our dog, but if that is the case, make your policy clear. I am beyond understanding to the recent issues in the service industry, but there was to me, no excuse for this. They missed out on a big order, and I can't say we'll be back anytime soon.
google avatar

Glenn S.

Yelp
This place is decent for a quick basic breakfast or lunch. You get the vibe the entire staff is kids who dont want to be there but it is summer on the island so I'd hate to work there too. Our food tasted good. Mozzarella sticks were great Cheese steak was ok, the fries are crappy quality/taste(mgmt. get crinkle cut fries ) Bang bang shrimp appetizer thing was good and larger than expected Shrimp bon mi looked good except they forgot to put any shrimp in it( how does that happen?) then when we told them Instead of just taking the messed up sandwich away and bringing a proper new one, they carry out a few shrimp on a plate, like here make it yourself?! Wtf is that? Kinda uncool Wallys. Do stuff right. Go the crumb cake to go from the front lobby and that was the best part of this place for sure. Go here but skip the appetizers, it ends up being too much food once your main lunch arrives(even without the shrimp in it) and just get your lunch and head out to explore the island. 4 stars cause our waitress was really nice. On our way out another waitress was bitching and complaining about her job as loud as she could. I thought it was funny but if it was my restaurant she would a been fired that second. Not cool for your customers to think the staff hates working there, makes you question what might be going on behind the scenes in the kitchen. Like maybe this chick hates the place so much she decided a secret plan to steal the shrimp from our sandwich just kidding but ya know, it's a basic lunch place. Most places on the island seem to be like this. Dont expect greatness anywhere on lbi, it's a beach town kinda place that thrives on summer tourism.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
THEY HAVE A VEGAN MENU! May I repeat... they have a vegan menu. Do you know how surprised I was when they asked me if I wanted a vegan menu? I was expecting to order some salad, but alas... a whole darn menu!!! We got the "chicken" parm... omg it was amazing. I almost asked if it wasn't real chicken...the fries that came with it were incredible... but. THE STAR OF THE SHOW... drum roll please... was the Philly cheese steak. The Vegan Philly cheese steak. They make their own seitan! And man they do a good job. It was incredible. I'm so happy with this place. Our waiter was super super super nice. Really liked her, and she did a great job. the vibe was great, we sat outside.
google avatar

Kathy C.

Yelp
Always had an excellent meal and service. Don't forget to grab a container of the coffee cake. The best on the island!!

Claire P D.

Yelp
Beautiful last day of summer for a road trip to LBI. Stopped at Wally's for an early dinner. The restaurant did not disappoint. We were given our choice of outdoor (requested) seating. Everyone ordered the Ahi Tuna with Wasabi mashed potatoes and Asian slaw. Entrees came with a choice of soup or salad. I had salad with blue cheese dressing. Delicious. My friends had two different soups, also delicious. Service was excellent. Being outdoors was nice for the last day of summer. There was a corn hole tournament across the road with live music: audible but not overwhelming. Service, and value are excellent. Last, but not not least, gender neutral restrooms were clean and well stocked. First, but not last visit to Wally's.

Yelp
Everything was great. Be sure to bring your own booze. Food was good service was great. Great place to meet the people.

Jackie B.

Yelp
Yes. Excellent food and service. Nico and Linda are both fantastic servers. Wonderful experience from start to finish. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
We love this place! One of our favorites that we go to probably twice a month in the summer. The mussels are to die for. Burgers are great. Breakfast is fantastic! No complaints at all!

John B.

Yelp
Very disappointing experience. We started with the chips and guac, a bowl of chili and a bowl of chowder to share. Soups were great, but the chips were oily and the guac was average. The real issue came with the service. After waiting a good 15 minutes for our appetizers, mind you the place only had about 6 total tables with customers, they were brought out. Then after another ten or fifteen minutes we were wondering why our entrees were taking so long. Our waiter then came over and let us know the entree I ordered, seafood paella, was unavailable on Sunday at 2pm. How is this possible and why did it take so long to let us know that? We decided to leave after the soups and apps as we did not want to wait another 30 minutes. Side note: coffee cake was excellent but felt like we should've got it for free to make up for our experience. Disappointing because we used to love Wally's but had a few negative experiences lately.
google avatar

Kimberly G.

Yelp
So yummy! My husband and I were with my pup so we decided to order takeout. I placed an order online and it was ready at the perfectly estimated time. When I arrived it was ready to go right on the shelf. We ordered the country eggs bennys, avocado toast, and Japanese soufflé pancakes. Everything was neatly packaged and warm in aluminum containers with plastic lids. The country bennys were sooo delicious. My husband enjoyed his avocado toast and the subtle hint of coconut. The soufflé pancakes had a delicious flavor and the blueberries were great but they were really dense and we were imagining more of the light fluffy jiggly pancakes. Everything was great and we would definitely return to try more options!
google avatar

Jess D.

Yelp
Always have gone for breakfast or lunch and it's consistently good! So many choices for everyone. The service is always good and the restaurant is clean!

Kevin P.

Yelp
Ok- my wife and I sat down for lunch and ordered the Shrimp Bahn Mi Pita Pocket and an Ahi Tuna Sandwich.. Bartender/Waitress started strong- although the food took almost 25 minutes to come out. Ahi Tuna Sandwich came out with a scalding hot pretzel bun, over cooked tuna, and was very bland. Bahn Mi Pita Pocket..... lukewarm shrimp, the pickled vegetables were all clumped together and very cold, and the taste went from bland to super spicy by the time I got to the middle of the pita. The Pita was very soggy by the time I stopped trying to pick the vegetables out of my teeth. We are frequent visitors to LBI and have eaten and enjoyed meals at Wally's for years. Aside from the back room with the bar being super noisy, it's always been very inviting. This visit was pretty disappointing. I think we'll stick to breakfast for the foreseeable future.
google avatar

Christopher D.

Yelp
Wow. Just wow. First, looks smaller than it is, but it's always packed. Once you get a table and your food, you will see why. Reminiscent of the great Jersey diners of old, portions are perfect and food is fresh and bursting with flavor. You know they are ample portions when you see most people leaving with to go containers. Service was fast and friendly. There is a line out the door in season, and I the s worth the wait
google avatar

Becky B.

Yelp
Back again for another summer - Wally's is hands down my favorite restaurant on LBI. The food is consistently good, the staff is friendly, and there are so many allergy friendly options for my needs. I could eat there every day if I lived there. I highly recommend the vegan Philly and the chickpea burger. Their fries are also perfectly done. Breakfast is always amazing, too.
google avatar

Barbara R.

Yelp
Crepes and the potatoes were very tasty and the chef did a nice presentation of the food. The crepes were a little too doughy though mostly because they were Gluten Free I think. This is the second time we ate here and it was pretty good. The waitress was sweet and friendly and the place is clean. The bathroom was clean too. Nice place.

Yelp
Great food great people, great service. Great location. Take a Xmas photo on the beach after Wally visit

Yelp
Great food! Excellent service. Quick and delicious. Great orange juice. Loved the pork roll and pancakes best. Only downside was no alcohol, at all.

Yelp
Even though Wally's is busy, the food is great and so is the friendly service. I enjoyed excellent clam chowder along with a cheesesteak. The clam chowder is hearty with great flavor. I could have made a meal of the clam chowder and would have been satisfied. The cheesesteak was delicious , if not a true Philly cheesesteak. My wife enjoyed an overflowing Greek salad. It had plenty of good stuff in it. We were lucky to be able to eat outside. They have a nice patio.
