American Farmers Are in Crisis | Eater

"A national retailer whose announcement of plans to open its own milk-bottling plant in Indiana triggered downstream supply-chain changes and contributed to contract terminations among established dairy suppliers, intensifying market pressures on small and mid-sized producers." - Siena Chrisman

Yelp
I haven't been to this Walmart in over 13 years. Lots of IUP people hanging out here due to the fair priced items, including groceries for the college budgets. I needed 2 toys for toddlers and the choices were very good. The store wasn't very clean and the parking lot was confusing for many when waiting for people to park or pull out. Bathrooms were messy and people took their time, not paying attention to their surroundings. I was glad to be finished within 15 minutes. Leaving this confusing parking situation was relieving without causing an accident.

Yelp
Af few of the employees here seem very racist towards people of color. The loss prevention guy makes it obvious he's following you. And some lady at people at self checkout always seems to think people of color are steal $2 clearance clothes. I will be reporting to corporate this is the second time me and my family felt uncomfortable.

Yelp
Today's the last day I stepped into this Walmart . Today at Walmart I got racially profiled by the creep on the picture. There's your security guard for the Indiana Walmart being disrespectful and following me everywhere I went. I was at the baby station, purchasing a new car seat for my son and out of nowhere. I start to feel somebody following me and staring at me look both ways and I see this creep. To not think the worse I went ahead and moved to the other section of the baby aisle to see if he was following me. I did it about three times and then I approached him and asked him is there any issues at that moment he said I'm just waiting for my wife I did not believe one bit of what he was saying so I went ahead and keep shopping looking around the baby section I do one to two more turns and I turn around to wait for him as I do he approaches me again looking directly at me. I went to one of the managers called Matt and he told me that that was not 100% the case but what a coincidence that I was the only person in the baby section at that time. That will be my last time I step in that Walmart again.. also creep I hope everybody recognizes you on the picture and know that you are the security guard for Walmart next time do a better job.

Yelp
Outstanding delivery service for the handicapped and elderly. Walmart has a very large selection of items at a reasonable price.

Yelp
This place is stupid, and their freezer section smells like fish. Thanks a lot, Walmart.

Yelp
Under the circumstances of the nation right now, the staff at this store has handled themselves very well. Nothing could compare to the difficulties that all retailers faced and still face. I was there this morning and each staff member I passed had a kind word when I wished them good morning. Their manager should be proud of him/herself and their employees. Thank you for your continued support.

Yelp
I like stopping here while I travel through really big parking lot where I can stretch my legs plus I can get a coffee at McDonald's and drink while I shop. The place was well stocked and clean I use the self checkout kiosk so I'm in n out

Yelp
What can I say, sometimes other stores just don't carry what you need and unfortunately WalMart does. With that being said, I hate WalMarts in general from past experiences, even though I hate them it's like a necessary evil to have to go into one. As usual for a WalMart the lines were long because out of the 30 possible registers that could be open only about 10 were actually open on a Saturday. The flow from one department to another here doesn't make sense, when I need deodorant I don't expect to find it an aisle away from dog food or live fish. And as per usual, the merchandise is just kind of thrown on the shelves. First item I picked up I had to put back and grab another one because it was in fact broken. I always make it a point to just run in and grab the items I need and then head back out. No need to browse, even if you wanted to you are pushed out of the way by other customers. And I might add if you need any help finding anything, forget asking an associate, you get the 'I don't work in this department' stare...that is if you can find anyone at all.

Yelp
Went here and experienced having a cheap hooker spit in my mouth at the deli section while everyone fondled the chicken nuggets, and the spaghetti was to die for! Wonderful experience every time!

Yelp
If you are the parent of a first-time student at IUP, please read this. Don't bother to buy all of that crap you think your kid needs for college then haul it to Indiana. Save yourself a lot of aggravation and just go buy it at Wal-Mart once you get there. It's cheaper than at home (a lot cheaper, if you're coming from the Philly area), and you can save room in the car for the big screen TV and his pet gerbil. Although my kids have graduated, I remember actually buying stuff to bring back home with me because it was cheaper in Indiana. They also have a remarkably wide selection of food, including a lot of ethnic items that were in a wider array than at home -- Mexican, Indian & etc. Did you know you can get a Wal-Mart debit card too? You put the amount on it that you want, and can "refill" it if you like. Your college student can only spend it at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart in PA doesn't carry beer, so the chance are high that it will be spent on items you really want them to buy. My son, however, was known to work out deal with friends..... What's a mother to do?

Yelp
This is one of the few stores in town that stocks a variety of items, including food. They also have an auto center which does oil changes. They have a subway on site and a hair salon. You can get everything you need here, and there is plenty of parking. I know some feel that Walmart kills local businesses, and it can, but in a small town, many folks have little recourse but to shop here for basic items. The staff is nice but a bit slow. Many college kids shop here, and a local bus has a stop out front for people with no cars. They sell it all, so future IUP students will be shopping here.

Yelp
It's WalMart, where you can save a few dimes at the expense of local businesses and american manufacturers. Ever wonder where those low prices come from? Walmart puts the screws to it's suppliers, demanding ever lower and lower costs on products, and when businesses can not longer compete Walmart goes to China and buys it there. No business in America comes close to importing what Walmart brings in from China--that's great for the Chinese, not so great for American workers. Then, when Walmart sets up in a town, they keep their prices artificially low, undermining existing businesses that paid living wages. Eventually, those businesses close and the only opportunities are...you guessed it...minimum wage at Walmart. Now, all those profits that would have stayed in the local economy are going off to Arkansas and China, forcing yet more local businesses to collapse--unemployed people can't afford restaurant meals, new cars, nice clothes. In fact, the only place they can afford is...ta-dah--Walmart. It's brilliant. I wish I'd thought of it.

Yelp
This store seems to be full of the rudest and most foul employees in the area. It all starts with the store manager Mary Mcunn, she doesn't take customer service seriously at all. I have been a long time shopper at this store and have seen the store standards drop over the years, like free cookies to all the kids from the bakery(stopped under Mcunn), door greeters that abide by company policy and actually great you( under Mcunn went from "Welcome to Walmart, do you have a return? would you like a sticker for your kids? to a Walmart walking wounded shoving a cart at you, to same person standing there arms folded and refusing to wipe of a soaked cart so you can put your 2 year old in, to finally no greeter at all), managers that know the store and not have to search for 20 minutes only to find out that they don't carry the item your looking for. Next you see their price rollbacks which are their way of raising prices, what they do is create the higher price from air and then raise the actual price to show its lower then the made up price when in actuality its higher then the price of the item the day before. When you do get to the checkouts, company policy states that if no one is in your line you stand at the entrance to your line and direct customers in but not at this store, you find clerks that are standing around and talking to each other, or again company policy if there are 3 or more customers in line in all registers then they are to call for more clerks to come and open more registers but again not at this store you get lines up the aisles and wait times of over 20 minutes just to get to a clerk "Just putting in the time" and God help you if you have a coupon or a WIC check because that only makes the clerk go even slower as she rolls her eyes at you and the customers angry behind you because they have already waited so long just to check out. It doesn't make for a good shopping experience. I hope this review prepares you for your visit to this store.

Yelp
Update: contrary to my original review, they do now have Calrose rice (I searched for it the last time I was there, and I didn't see it). Everything else I said in my prior review stands.

Yelp
It's Walmart. It is a store that has mostly everything you need. It took me about 6 years to even step foot in a Walmart when they first came to Pa. I do not like what they stand for and how they pay the employees, you know personal values etc. I do go there because it is cheap. I am new to this area and I feel very uncomfortable as a minority shopping here. That is the main thing I notice. The workers are extremely rude and nasty. I cannot express the level of ignorance these workers have. It is a small town and everybody knows everybody. So the college students and/or new residents that are just looking for a small quiet town have to come in and prove themselves as worthy. Which I still do not understand in this day and age. If we live in a free country and racism or discrimination is not real why can't people just live where they want without issue or harassment? Oh wait, because its not true. Anyway, I try to use other discount stores and only go to Walmart when food is incuded.

Yelp
Walmart needs to focus more on customer service. I had an issue where an item was not tagged correctly on the shelf. I had to speak to a manager after waiting in line for a long time with one person manning the service desk (there are two registers). They refunded my money. The employee in the electronics department did not even look up when I was trying to ask him about a product that I did not see on the shelf. Walmart employees in Indiana are rude and don't know how to communicate effectively. They did not even apologize for their mistake. All they care about is making money and not about the customer experience. I guess that is big business for you. Pathetic!

Yelp
They have finally closed the McDonald's that was in the rear of the store. They tranformed it into a refrigerated food area. It seemed inevitable as there is a McDonald's in the parking lot.

Yelp
I love Walmart. The negative effect that these people claim it has on small communities and small businesess is not proven, actually, its been tried and tried, but the outcome is generally that its good for the community. You are probably a union supporter or read walmartwatch.com or wake up walmart.com, who are union ran and do anything to kill Walmart. It is in the americans' best interest to save money, not spend more money to look out for the small business owner down the street. The small business owner is looking out for himself, otherwise, he would lower his prices. How about Target, Sears, Kmart, walgreens, rite aid, etc. that get their merchandise from the same places as walmart, and pay their employees less. I am a walmart supporter and shopper, because they save me money. The hell with everyone else. thanks

Yelp
Don't shop the store the same day that Welfare payments are posted. It was just before lunch, there were few people in the store and I could barely finish my shopping.
