oh my lord. Walter library is essentially the MECCA of the gopher student experience. I simply love the neoclassical architecture. It’s just like a Hogwarts house exclusively for people with imminent deadlines and wayy too much caffeine in their systems. OH and the second floor main reading room is peak academic aesthetic. You WILL feel smarter just by basking in the couches under the glass panes. BUT WAIT. I haven’t even told you about the FOUNDATION LEVELS. No joke, there’s a whole sub-library. 💯/10. Would unironically live here.

I've gotten down a dirty on some papers here. Great for long procrastinated grinds. Just don't forget ear buds it's dangerously quiet in here, if someone is shuffling across the room you'll hear it. Also looks pretty sick inside. Just don't snack or play your earbuds too loud, that's just messed up.

I enjoy this building! They have this nice cafe area to study in the basement, as well as computer labs. I have my lab for a computer science class in this building and it is pleasing to the eye and the soul. The staircase is very nice, although it can be slippery when it is wet outside (the entrance is slippery too). I have only gotten lost one time in this building, but honestly I didn't mind it because it is so pretty.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to study/work/gaze at the ceilings on the U of M campus. Walter has various study options to choose from, and none of those options include that unbearably, intolerable, "i can't even breathe or else will get glared at for being loud", kind of place. You know what I'm talking about. But Walter evokes an enjoyable aura to it, as it's not noisy, but not insanely quiet either. It's perfecto in my opinion, and for some reason, time always go slower there, or rather I'm always more productive. There are study options in the basement, and throughout the top floor. I personally love those cubbies, yet there are only around 10 on them throughout. Also, there are not a ton of outlets, so make sure to position yourself strategically. One last thing. Make sure to bring a snack or go to Coffman before, as Wise Owl doesn't have tons of food options. Yet they do have coffee & tea galore to keep yourself caffeinated!

Yelp
Beautiful library. Upstairs has big open areas with high ceilings and nice lighting, so you feel a little happier than when normally studying. There's a nice big room with large tables to spread out, and enough outlets that you'll probably find one. It can get chattery up there, but not in a distracting way. The basement has more library-ish feels, with shelves of books and a quieter atmosphere. Also good study rooms if you can nab one. Good for when you really need to focus. Personally I prefer upstairs.
