Wanaka Springs Lodge | Best places to stay in New Zealand

"This comfy lodge, a ‘luxury B&B’, is like a home away from home, Kiwi style. A few streets back from the main township of Wanaka, the property is an oasis of calm, with comfortable rooms, fine mountain views and an 8-seater garden spa bath to admire them from. The staff are a fount of knowledge about Wanaka, and operate a great activities desk, making this an excellent base to explore from. There are also a couple of in-house mountain bikes for guests’ use. " - Mark Chipperfield

Quiet location and a 15 min walk to the lakefront. The property was well equipped but I wouldn't describe it as a Boutique Hotel. Communal kitchen, dining area as it was self-catering with a separate communal lounge. We were the only guests there the night we stayed. No staff at the property to greet us.

I am giving this 4 stars as the location is great, the garden lovely, and the rooms could be fine, but…this is totally dependent on other guests. One group left all their dirty dishes in the communal kitchen for me to confront for my breakfast the next day. The guests in the room next to ours left their TV on all hours of the day - sort of defeating the purpose of a quiet garden retreat. They had it on until midnight every night and as we are early sleepers, we could not get to sleep before then. When I asked the woman why they had the TV on all the time, she just told me they liked it on when they were in the room, but I noted, you are in the kitchen having dinner and it is on, and she said, yes, they just left it on. When I said it was disturbing our sleep, she just smiled and said they like to stay up late. Needless to say, we got only a few hours of sleep while here.

Nice accommodation but really depends what you are looking for and what your expectation is. There is no reception or formal check in so it feels more like an airbnb. No fridge in the room but large shared kitchen with the other rooms which has a fridge and all the kitchen supplies you need which is great if you want to cook a meal or two at the accommodation. Hot tub in the backyard with amazing views. Super close walking distance into town.

Very clean and simple rooms. Wonderful garden and spacious sitting area. The shower was great and easy checkin and check out. Location is right on the stream and easy walk to the center and lake.

Stayed two nights at Wanaka Springs which is an 8 room boutique hotel up the hill on Warren Street. There is a large shared kitchen and individual bins in the fridge to store your items. There is a lovely deck and grounds and a hot tub as well. It was a short walk to town where we found multiple food truck offerings as it seems restaurants get booked up here. Lovely stay!

Great stay at Wanaka Springs Lodge. We didn't have much time at the accommodation and it was very dark and raining, so we didn't get to enjoy anything outside like the balcony or spa. The room itself was warm and clean, great bathroom amenities and there is an on-sight washing machine. Kitchen and living areas are onsite and shared, with plenty of fridge and storage space for food.

This place was great for a spot to lay your head but certainly not a 4 star experience. Upon check in, no one was there, they didn’t have a reservation in our name, and the room was nothing special. No fridge, and more of a hostel vibe. Again, good enough to sleep but nothing noteworthy.

This is a very comfortable place to stay and a great location for a good price. We had a nice deck off our room and it was an easy walk into town. There is a hot tub (though it needed cleaning) and a large communal kitchen with a fridge and cooktop which was perfect since we had an early start up Roy's Peak and needed place to store our food for the hike. The only negative - there is no staff on site and we only had a glimpse of someone who probably worked there. It feels more like an Airbnb. You need more towels? You have to call. Any questions about Wanaka etc, no one is there. Overall, it just felt a little strange.

Yelp
I stayed here during a business trip and absolutely fell in love with it. Fraser and Anne are so sweet and welcoming and have thought of everything when it comes to amenities in the rooms. Between the room heaters, space heaters, and bed warmer I was beyond toasty while looking at the beautiful views of the mountains. Their kitchen and breakfast are wonderful and everything about my stay was perfect. Thank you for everything!

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here for two nights and our experience was wonderful. Fraser and Anne are excellent hosts and their social hour was an excellent way to meet other adventurers and settle dining accommodations. Super easy to walk to/from town center. The room was private, quiet, and the mattress in our room was of good quality. Breakfast was excellent. Highly recommended!
