Amazing hidden gem. I will definitely be returning. It has been an exhausting month and this double date with close friends was super great in this small intimate environment.
Crispy Brussels Sprouts (with bacon, roasted pepitas, sun dried cranberries, apple cider vinaigrette) were so delicious. The brussle sprouts were chopped so every bite was bursting with flavor, versus those sprouts served as whole or halves. I definitely prefer them chopped... which I am not even sure I've had until now. If did, it clear was a forgettable experience unlike here at Wanda BYOB.
P.E.I. Mussels (lemongrass, coconut, pickled vegetables, kaffir, thai bird chili, grilled bread). This is the fluffiest grilled bread I have ever had. It's like they just painted on the grill marks. Most grilled bread can be so tough it feels like I'm going to cut the roof of my mouth. It was light and refreshing. I loved the pickled vegetables (thin strips onions, zucchini). It was just the right amount of vegetables to complement the dish.
Goat Cheese Croquettes (panko crust, lavender honey, walnut). Sounds basic but it didn't taste basic. Also a must have.
They were out of the Hudson Valley Foie Gras so we were pretty bummed. That will be our next trip.
My girlfriend got the Seared Duck Breast (with essence of oranges, lemon thyme, banyuls vinegar, blackberry, glace de canard). This was so delicious. The duck was so tender and flavor infused through out each slice.
Her fiance got the "Osso Bucco" Pork Cheeks 28 broccoli rabe, roasted peppers, parmigiano-reggiano, home-madepappardelle pasta. He offer anyone a bite :(.
My fiance got the Grilled Filet Mignon (carrot puree, brussels sprouts, fingerling potatoes, port wine sauce). I think this may be one of the best steaks I've ever had... it it going Philadelphia's Barclay Prime and Del Frisco's Double Eagle a run for their money. When I have steaks, almost always is the flavor just on the outside. At Wanda's, even the inner most interior of the cut is flavorful without you dipping into the demi glace/sauce. Apparently I like carrots puree... sometimes.
I had the Scottish Salmon (with beech mushroom, crispy parsnip, shanghai tip brown jasmine rice, roasted lobster broth). I licked this plate clean. I don't know what else to say about it. I'm coming back for the sea bass next time. If I hadn't just had sea bass I probably would have gotten that. I'm already excited.
Ginger Rosemary Olive Oil Cake (with miso pear jam, chantilly, sesame brittle). This was so good! This sesame brittle yasted liked candied ginger. I don't like sesame, and I don't like candied ginger. But I ate that up like grape Airheads. I'm so confused with myself. Bottom line - must have.
Blackberry Walnut Tart (with vanilla ice cream). I don't trust myself even more now. I don't/didn't like walnuts...? But this tart was so good.
Main thing that stood out with Wanda is the owners walked around each table to say hi and ask how everything was.
You can literally taste the pride on every bite from the butter for the bread to the last crumb of the tart. Speaking of.... even the dinner rolls were amazing. They garnished the butter with a small flower! Rolls were warm and fluffy... it was like cotton candy and the butter was so soft.
