15 Restaurants on the Oregon Coast Worth Visiting | Eater Portland

"Beloved by residents and visitors alike in the short stretch of windy road that comprises the North Coast town of Nehalem, Wanda’s Cafe serves breakfast, brunch and lunch seven days a week. The sought-after cinnamon rolls, pastries and bread are all made from its bakehouse next door. There’s not much parking and often a line, but it’s worth it to sit on the pleasant covered patio that quickly fills on quiet coastal mornings. If it’s too busy, order your breakfast sandwich on brioche, tuna melt, or grilled meatloaf sandwich to go, and purchase goods to take home from the small but carefully curated market inside." - Jennifer Burns Bright

Google
Excellent food and service! They accommodated my dietary restrictions (gluten free, dairy free) and I did not have any reactions. The chicken on my cobb salad was juicy and my husband had a great garden burger. Plus, he had a triple chunk ginger cookie that was perfectly soft, chewy and spiced with three types of ginger! When in town we'll definitely stop by for more cookies at a minimum.

Google
Stopped here while staying farther down the coast, they had a lovely little covered waiting area with drip coffee while we waited for a table to open up it was really relaxing. The little store/bakery portion is cute and all the baked goods looked amazing. We had a wonderful breakfast potato/sausage gravy creation that was delicious. The servers were very nice! Will come again!

Google
We had a great experience here! Stopped in for baked goods and were blown away by the variety and freshness. Everything we tried (about six different items) was absolutely delicious. My favorites were the peanut butter brownie & the monster bar. Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere—can’t wait to come back!

Google
Very beautiful, calming, and enjoyable food and atmosphere. We loved this little gem on the trip towards the coast! We got the cinnamon rolls and had them heated and cut! It was such a warm spirited team who cared about the customer experience! The lines can get long because this is an amazing place! They can serve food sit-down which can have a wait but the café and pastry shop is open without a line. They sells lots of different types of coffees, cakes, cookies, rolls, breads, etc. It was Ana amazing place!

Google
Had the best brunch experience! 🌿 The atmosphere was absolutely beautiful especially the back patio. It’s covered and gives off an eclectic, cozy vibe with live plants everywhere, making it feel like a little hidden oasis. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive from start to finish. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients every bite was spot on. Whether you’re craving something savory or sweet, there’s something for everyone on the menu. Also loved that they had a separate coffee stand with a variety of options, from classic lattes to unique seasonal drinks. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing and delicious brunch spot!

Google
We stopped here on our way out of town and we loved it! There was a short wait outside, which was under their beautiful patio with complimentary coffee. We were sat promptly and service was great! Our food arrived very quick and the cinnamon roll was huge! Very delicious and will be back!

Google
I had an amazing experience at Wanda’s. Great food, fantastic staff, cute decor and a fun gift shop as well! I can’t say enough good things about this gem!

Google
Holy scrumptious! We have been drinking espresso here for years. The wait has always been too long for breakfast as it's super popular. They've added more seating in the past year and we got in after only a 20 minute wait. Everything was delicious and of high quality. The service is super friendly. We'll be back again soon!

Yelp
Wow. We had somehow missed this hidden gem, but discovered it on our last trip and I will be going out of my way to return again in the future. There's a sit down restaurant, but they had a bit of a wait and we had somewhere to be so we decided to grab pastries and coffee and ate them out front instead. We went for a muffin, coffee cake, and I grabbed a quiche lorraine on a whim. The pastries were all good, but the quiche was incredible! I'm not usually a quiche girlie because I've had an amazing one and I'm easily disappointed, but wow! It was so good that my family decided to help me eat it and I had to go inside and get another one. The coffee was also pretty good. I've had some really disappointing espresso on the coast, but my latte was perfect. Everything was so good that we almost stopped in again the following day. I can't wait to go back and try their giant cinnamon rolls and maybe even a sit down breakfast.

Yelp
Good food. Terrible service. Rude ownership. Very small. No real ambiance, maybe store with tables? After ruining father's day and airing out my private conversation on Google, if this place has no haters I am dead.

Yelp
It had been at least 10yrs since we were here and boy has it changed. Very well thought out and use of space for this gem. It was already busy for Saturday morning brunch but it only took 15-20 mins to be seated with a party of 4. While waiting, we were able to get adult beverages. Their store inside was filled with lots of bakery options that were hard to resist (I couldn't as i ended up getting a cinnamon roll to go). Our waiter was attentive and very friendly. Our table was mixed with breakfast & lunch choices. Everything on the menu was available at 10 am. Prices were very reasonable. All chosen options were great and more to be tried! Check it out if you are in the area. The wait is worth it!

Yelp
We were greeted by such happy and smiling staff. We were sat quickly with menus and waters already on the table. Our server was kind and quick. Food came out quick and was delicious. They have a cozy inside seating area and then a covered outside eating area which is perfect for photos. Outside area felt like you were camping but sophisticated style. You pay up front where you can see the baked goods for the day. Would come back!

Yelp
Great find on the Oregon coast. We were hanging out near Nehalem and found a great breakfast and lunch spot. Wanda's is a diamond in the ruff. Very unique spot with a lot of cool decor, as you walk into the small seating area within the main building they have a small shop, as you work to the back area they have a beautiful and eclectic covered patio. I cannot say enough about the decor, so much to look at within the covered patio seating area. They have about 6 tables in one section and a few more in the adjoining back area. The wait staff was very attentive. We were able to order our drinks and food within a few minutes of being seated. The food variety is great, many main breakfast and lunch dishes. We had a variety of dishes. Two egg and bacon , egg and sausage patties to a grilled cheese. All well prepared, hot and very tasty. I look forward to visiting again.

Yelp
We tried this place out on a recommendation and we were glad we did! Pretty little place with some very good baked goods and breads ( on weekends) 4 of us had breakfast and we each tried something different. Everyone loved their meal From the 2x2x2 to the green chile omelette & fiesta potatoes & eggs Benedict! Staff friendly and efficient. Food came promptly and was fresh & hot.. coffee very good. We have ourselves recommended it since we were last there and hope to go back again when in the area

James B.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast spot, amazing drinks. Great service. To gos are also a major part of their business with a to go bar up front. Great restaurants and ambiance. Must go!

Brenda P.

Yelp
We had the most heavenly breakfast here! And had to take some sweet treats home for snacks later. The service was friendly. The space was small but put to great use. It was definitely worth the wait.

Yelp
Wanda's delivered on all accounts this morning! Quaint little coffee and breakfast joint. We arrived around 8:15 on a Friday and had a 30-40 minute wait to be seated. It's worth it. We ordered a latte inside, perused the small gift/ bakery shop, and chatted outside while we waited. There's ample seating while you wait. But the best past was still ahead. When we were seated they led us to the unique back patio. It was enclosed, so I guess not technically a patio, but , WOW! So eclectically adorable. The artfully constructed wall with up-cycled windows, decorated with stickers, etc, was totally awesome. Absolutely love the vibe. The service was spot on: cheerful, answered our questions, checked in with us often. The menu offered something for everyone and the food was delicious. I ordered the 2x2x2, a heavenly plate with two thick, fluffy pieces of French Toast, 2 eggs, and 2 slices of bacon. Yum. I terrific option if you want quality classic breakfast items both sweet & savory. My friend loved her smoked salmon omelette. We both loved Wanda's and would definitely return! Oh, and the scones! We took a couple to go and my share of the chai maple was awesome, too!
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
This place is wonderful! It's always a treat to eat here when visiting the coast! Their new outdoor waiting area is spacious and heated! Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the worth it wait! People who work here are exceptional! Service is always top notch!

Yelp
Such a fun stop for for lunch. Something for everyone on the menu. A+ for the biscuits and gravy. In addition to the great ambiance and food they have a cute gift shop filled with Oregon items and bakery treats to take home. As a reminder they close at 2:00, we were almost turned away at 1:00 because the wait list was already running until closing time. Keep this in mind you need to arrive early.
google avatar

Suzanne W.

Yelp
This popular cafe is well worth the wait. The food is consistently good, the servers friendly (especially Brendan) and if you want to take home their delicious baked goods, be sure to choose them before your table is ready as the scones disappear quickly. We are so lucky to have Wanda's in Nehalem!
google avatar

Maeleth C.

Yelp
Wanda's Cafe was just what we needed to start our day. Honestly, it was all so delicious but their sourdough toast deserves its own shoutout because it was SO tasty. We showed up during a busy time so the wait was a bit long, but as soon as they get you inside they're pretty quick to get your food to you. All in all, a super cozy spot to get some quality breakfast food.

Yelp
This cafe is lovely! Went for lunch while visiting cannon beach. The outdoor space is soooo adorable I was obsessed. Service was nice and attentive. I got the salmon Benedict and my boyfriend got the omelet with ham and both were delicious. I really enjoyed my meal. The chai latte was also very good and we also got the strawberry smoothie too and It was also very yummy!

Yelp
Greeted right at opening by a friendly and conscientious crew, and we were served the first meal of the day out of the kitchen, so I was confused that my potatoes were cold. I flagged down the busboy. Maybe he was new, because there was a bit of a comedy of errors about my meal. Me: excuse me, my meal is cold He: oh, I don't know, ma'am Me: no. My food. It's cold. He: oh! Would you like me to put it under the heat lamp? Me: ummmm, I don't think the eggs (up) will survive that He: ok. How long would you like me to microwave it for? Me: I don't work here, so I don't know. How about you take it to the kitchen and let them figure it out? I snatched my house-made English muffin off the plate to snack on while I waited, and it was lovely. A new plate arrived in 5 minutes. Nothing special. Very cute decor. I love the hominess of the local flair. It's charming and eclectic but not overdone. The whole vibe is a labor of love from the owners. Just wish the food was better

Yelp
Stumbled upon this treasure after Yelp search; returned 3 times during a one week vaca! Such an amazing vibe, delicious unique recipes. Excellent service, superb food, and super special decor. One of the many highlights of this trip! Don't miss it!!

Yelp
I failed. No photos of our delicious breakfast but oh yes!-go to Wanda's. Saturday morning we joined others outside waiting for a table (approx 15mins) Service is very swift and coffee is hot and not weak. Fun decor with photos maps and trinkets to look at on the walls and ceiling but in a cohesive way. Black and white buffalo check curtains keep the home style cozy vibe going. Be sure to grab pastries on your way out for later. And a bag of granola for tomorrow. And some bread. And maybe a game or gift. Seriously--fun stuff to browse and try.
google avatar

Kailee W.

Yelp
Love the ambiance of this place & the food is also amazing. I love the chicken salad + their lattes. The take home baked goods are amazing too!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about Wanda's. The food, the vibes, the decor, the service is all 5 stars. They have a really cute gift shop, the food is so flavorful yet belly filling, and the servers are all super friendly. Keep on keeping on Wanda's you're doing all the right things!!!!
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Such a cute cafe! An awesome staple for any Coast visit. Food and service were excellent, you could tell they love their customers. Everything we had was excellent. Biscuit and jam were home made; there were lots of breakfast choices and service was very attentive. You can see why this place is always busy: There's a small capacity so you will probably wait but they offer coffee and water and an espresso stand and pastries and a little shop with lots of cute merch. A must stop anytime you're looking for breakfast in the north coast area.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. once seated waitress was speedy in taking drink order. Shane was also speeding in returning to take food order. My wife had the 2x2x2 ( eggs, slices of bacon and pieces of French Toast) and I had the Eggs Benedict and a 1/2 side of biscuits & gravy. My wife said her order was very good and my order was very good. We will definitely be stopping there again.
google avatar

Yelp
Hidden gem on the Oregon coast. Incredible atmosphere and great food. The offer baked goods, a range of breakfast and brunch items, drink menu, kids menu and gluten free options. Top notch servers and service. We were a huge part of 11 with six kids and they were able to easily accommodate us in their back patio. Great merchandise what is meticulously curate for adventurers and campers. Really great spot.
google avatar

Mindi F.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. The servers are efficient and kind. The baked goods are delicious and repeatable. The vibe is kitschy and cozy but not cramped. It was pretty warm on the patio and the kitchen had to close early because it was way too hot in there--I think due to an AC malfunction, but not sure. The chairs don't have arms and are sturdy. I hadn't been here in a couple years and it was the highlight of my day at the coast. The breakfast grilled cheese sandwich special was amazing, and I loved that it came with its own little bottle of syrup.
google avatar

Sue L.

Yelp
Heard about their famous Cinnamon Rolls and it was definitely worth the drive. The team members were super friendly with a bright smile. We ordered Cinnamon Rolls, Coffee, Mimosa, Huevos Rancheros, and Smoked Salmon Omelet. Everything was so delicious. We also brought home Coffee Coffee Cake and Cinnamon Swirl Scone. They are so so good!

Matt T.

Yelp
Always a great meal with lots of fresh items to pick from. Service is always friendly and menu offers breakfast and lunch items which helped with the 6 of us. The cookies at the checkout counter are a must.
google avatar

Beth W.

Yelp
Full disclosure: I'm a regular here. But also: I don't have a huge monthly budget for eating out and choose to spend part of it on my "Weekly Wanda's" fix, so I think that should say something! The service is always amazing and the food is outstanding. Some of my favorite menu items are the Beachcomber (bring an appetite...super-filling!), the Florentine and their Fiesta Potatoes, but everything they serve is wonderful. A note on breakfast here: I've never eaten somewhere that had a 99% success rate with poached eggs, before becoming a regular here...kudos, kitchen! It's a super popular spot with a delightful (but also small) inside dining area and a fantastic (heated) back patio. Go for the latter if you have the option and come early or be prepared to wait a bit to be seated...it's definitely worth it!
google avatar

Steve O.

Yelp
We were a party of 8 so we got a lot of things on the menu and all of it was terrific. Everyone enjoyed their food, especially the poached eggs, French toast, bacon, and biscuits with gravy. The cafe is absolutely charming and feels very country cabin but super clean and elegant. Service was friendly and the overall vibe was so welcoming and pleasant. All 8 of us loved Wanda's Cafe!
google avatar

Jim P.

Yelp
I have heard some wonderful things about Wanda's and finally had an opportunity to get firsthand experience. We arrived on a Wednesday morning about 11:00 and was informed of an hour wait. Wanda's has limited seating and limited kitchen capacity, so they control the order volume to keep quality and satisfaction levels up. 50 minutes later, we were seated in a cozy comfortable dining room that was nicely decorated country travel theme. The clean and sanitary lone restroom was decorated with white subway walls and penny tile floors. My two fried eggs cooked over medium with pepper bacon breakfast, sided with country fried potatoes were perfectly prepared and delicious. Due to my dairy allergy, I didn't have toast but the biscuit slathered with butter and Marionberry jam that my wife enjoyed looked like heaven. Will plan to return again soon as it was worth the drive 20 miles south of Seaside in Nahalem.

Yelp
This place it is a "MUST" stop and enjoy! It was recommended to me by a local and boy was he right! The staff is very welcoming and pleasant. The restaurant has plenty of natural light and the bakery selection is vast so you won't be disappointed. I was driving to Seattle so this restaurant was on the way. I had a potato skillet with to eggs and the flavor just exploded with every bite. The waitress suggested that I tried the dipping sandwich and it was very well balanced. Between the roast beef, the onions and the au jus sauce it was the perfect flavor. The coffee it is strong so it will put some hair on your chest. They have fresh baked bread, granola, Cinnamon Rolls, cookies and MOREEE! If I am ever back in this area, I know where I am stopping. Thank you Julie for such a great service!
google avatar

Paris T.

Yelp
Wanda's Cafe + Bakery was such a nice stop during my time in the area. I ordered a 12 oz vanilla latte from their coffee bar and it was delicious + reasonably priced! I forgot to ask, but they have Sleepy Monk coffee beans for sale so I am assuming that's what they use in their coffee bar as well. That was neat for me because that was my original coffee stop plan to try, but their shop was closed on the day I was in the area so essentially I may of gotten what I wanted all along haha. Overall: their coffee was amazing. They also have the option to dine in for breakfast/lunch, but I just wanted caffeine the day I went. I definitely can say the coffee bar was an awesome choice for me though!
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
We were really impressed with Wanda's. While staying in Rockaway with limited breakfast options, Wanda's seemed like our best bet. The service was wonderful, with only a ten-minute wait. However, parking was limited. Our server was attentive and available when needed but gave us space to enjoy our meal peacefully. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, featuring a cool outdoor/indoor dining area in addition to the regular dining area. The food was delicious, tasting homemade and fresh. We ordered the Juevos rancheros, a two-egg breakfast, and the eggs Benedict, and everything we ate was top-notch. Since we're at the beach for a few more days, we'll definitely be back to Wanda's.
google avatar

Amie P.

Yelp
Everything about this little hole in the wall is amazing!!!! Homemade food at a reasonable cost. All staff friendly. I just need them to open a location in Medford so I can visit every weekend.
google avatar

Emma K.

Yelp
One more to add to the plethora of raving reviews about Wanda's. What more could you want? (A little better parking maybe) but whether you're driving through, popping in from Manzanita or Rockaway, Wanda's is the place for you. Unless you're looking for pancakes. But if you want cinnamon rolls, homemade biscuits and gravy, baked goods, you've come to the right place. Oh and there's a bit of a line when you walk up? Not to worry, you can order a cocktail while you wait! Might I recommend a Bloody Mary while soaking up the coastal sunshine. Wanda's is the shining star of Nehalem, we look forward to coming every time we pop out to the beach :) gave 4 stars because we were a bit rushed inside, but other than that, great vibes all around.

Teresa J.

Yelp
I have been here once and not eager to return. Service was so so as my friend and I both had to ask for refills of our beverages. I have to eat gluten free and the bun for my sandwich just crumbled to pieces every time it was touched. This was not appealing and it was also very dry. The menu said the turkey was home cooked/roasted, but it was just like lunchmeat you would buy at the store. All in all, it was an expensive sandwich priced at $16 and only came with kettle chips( quite sure they were out of a bag and not cooked there).
google avatar

Aranda C.

Yelp
Delicious food, wonderful service. I'd like to make a suggestion though.. the huevos rancheros was super tasty, great flavors... but I think a crispy tortilla would make it a 10/10 dish. It would add a much needed crispy texture. Still really enjoyed this experience though, and the vanilla latte was single-handedly the best coffee I've ever tasted.
google avatar

Timanddarlene O.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem with an absolutely wonderful breakfast. I bought some jam to take with me. Everything from scratch and delicious!
google avatar

Mia W.

Yelp
Friendly service, cozy ambiance (love an Ella Fitzgerald playlist) and delicious food! Showed up with our pup on a Saturday morning with no wait. They have a nice patio but don't have service outside, so you order inside and they'll bring everything out in to-go containers. Nonetheless, the food came out so quickly. The Beachcomber was excellent and so filling - delicious gravy, the freshest fruit and a biscuit on the side (though I wasn't nuts about the biscuit). We also brought a cinnamon roll home and enjoyed that evening. Best cinnamon roll I've ever had. Can't believe it was only $8 for the size (it's huge). Am excited to visit again this summer!
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
One of the best breakfast places on the Oregon Coast. Not a lot of parking, but worth the wait for great food.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Very welcoming and cozy, the staff were all extremely kind and accommodating. Food was delicious!!

Maryam

Yelp
This is such a precious little restaurant if you're in the Nahlem / Manzanita area absolutely make sure you try Wanda's. It's such a cute little restaurant and bakery. Everything is fresh and delicious. The most charming little place. I had the salmon scramble and it was so good. Also picked up some bread and cookies. The cookies are AMAZING!
google avatar

Jacqueline H.

Yelp
My friends and I stopped by Wanda's after it was recommended by a couple we met at a winery close by. We didn't get to eat there, but got coffee and pastries on the go. They have a small parking lot and an outdoor seating area, which was really cute. They also had a lot of fun things in the front of the cafe that operated more like a gift shop with local goods. Their coffee was great and more artisan that a lot of cafes in the area + they had a lot of pastry options, but their giant cinnamon roll was definitely the most recommended and delicious! They will heat it up for you as well if they ask. Overall, such a fun stop in the area and they were so friendly and had great service. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Tim R.

Yelp
This place is such a homey and cute spot in the heart of little Nehalem. They serve breakfast, lunch, and baked goods. The food is delicious and portions are nice. Had lunch here and enjoyed the turkey club and clam chowder. Also, the coffee is on point here with a nice selection of drinks and them Sleeping Monk beans. They do get busy, so be prepared to wait.

Myron S.

Yelp
We have been traveling to the coast for over 25 years. Needless to say several restaurants struggle to find staff much less serve good food. Hands down Wanda's nails it. It's clockwork how they move efficiently to set, and or clean up tables for the next customers. Fantastic food and the best service I've seen anywhere. You need to be prepared to wait but it's worth the wait. The baked goods to go are fantastic. Wanda's is our place to go.

Pat R.

Yelp
Going to Wanda's was one of the highlights of my trip to the coast. The food was delicious! I appreciated that they had some vegan options. The people who work there were so friendly and welcoming. I especially enjoyed interacting with our waiter, Dawson. I look forward to going back to Wanda's the next time I am in the area.
google avatar

Lisa J.

Yelp
Was looking forward to some local coffee and a good pastry. When I walked up instead of being greeted the hostess told me I couldn't park where the car was at even though my boyfriend was waiting for me inside as I was only planning to run in a grab and go. I decided to just go and not get anything due to the unwelcoming greeting I received.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been going here off and on for years, after today I'll never be back. The service wasn't just indifferent it was rude. For a place that lists takeout they never seem to be offering it. They don't even answer the phone, which suggested calling again to place a takeout order, and yet when I stopped in minutes later, I found the staff just chatting around the register. When I asked about placing a takeout order, I was told to go talk to the hostess outside. When I got to the hostess, I witnessed her disdain for the customers ahead of me, when all they wanted was drip coffee while they waited. The moment I asked about takeout, she said no. We're not doing takeout. We're too busy. (There's only 1 party waiting to be seated, with 6 empty tables outside and several inside open, but ok) There was no apology, no suggestion of a better place to go to, or a time to return. I was a bother to them, that much was clear. Take your money elsewhere. They don't seem to need or want it here. Edit: Oh, and to the owner response.. you weren't there, how would you know what I'm upset about? Because it's a lot more than being told no to takeout. Treating your customers as complications to your day instead of as a vital part of what keeps you going is poor business management. If you treat the employees the same way you talk to me here, I guess I can understand why they're so unhappy every time I've been there, and its only getting worse.

Susan M.

Yelp
Amazing service. It was busy but we were seated right away. We had three staff visit our table with water, coffee, & order right away. Food was excellent. Had the oatmeal. It was hot and original and excellent. The special was excellent as well! Food came out fast. Loved the decor and atmosphere. This will be a definite destination when visiting the coast going forward. Had never stopped before. Parking is a bit of a challenge but well worth the challenge once you get inside this delightful place!

Helen V.

Yelp
Not so good as people have said. Husband had a biscuit and about 3 tablespoons of gravy. Very dry. I asked if he wanted my butter at least but he said no. Ended up getting a bagel at a drive through coffee place to hold out until lunch. Maybe a one time thing but not sure I'd try again.

Yelp
This cafe has a very pleasant atmosphere. When we stayed at the hotel near the beach this was our place for breakfast. I usually don't like salads but this one was the best. Sarah the waitress was the nicest person ever. People working at the bakery were also very nice and attentive. I wish it was close to our home so we could go there often :)
