Hey Beautiful People!
So you know how CA is the perfect place to open an ice cream shop? How about 9 of them?! I admit, after a wonderful experience at Wanderlust Creamery Irvine, I decided to try the new Costa Mesa location...
Big mistake!
I realized from this experience that it wasn't just the unique ice cream flavors that made Wanderlust special, but it was also their cheerful customer service, which was sadly non-existent at the new Costa Mesa location. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the vibe or warmth of the Irvine location at all.
There were only two workers, and the shop wasn't busy, but both of them were definitely ready to bounce despite it being more than an hour away from closing time. Also, their were stingy on their scoops, so even getting the flight of 3 didn't add up to the size of a regular scoop of ice cream at other places.
Hopefully, with proper training, this store can be a success, or I see it closing up within a year or less. There are too many niche ice cream places VERY nearby that are excellent overall AND have great service.
However, I do want to still give credit where credit is due, and these were the standout flavors for me:
1.) Japanese Neopolitan - Very demure, very cutesy!
2.) Black Sesame Cookies & Cream - Gawd, I love this flavor! It's so good, I could have had a triple scoop if it weren't 7.50! (For a price/size comparison in Costa Mesa, you can check out Han's, Stella Jean's & even Baskin Robbins)
3.) Pistachio Puro - Was initially worried that this would taste artificial, but it was a solid bite of pistachio that wasn't too sweet.
Anyway, make sure you give them a try so you can decide for yourself: Irvine or Costa Mesa?! It's Irvine for me!
