Family-owned since the 1980s, Wang’s balances American-Chinese staples with dishes like zha jiang mian and spicy cucumbers. Loved by generations of Memphians and cited by local guides, it’s dependable for dine-in, takeout, and a weekday lunch buffet.

THE LONG GAME!! We’ve been coming to this great establishment for decades. We’ve dined in and we’ve done carry out many, many times and the food is always delicious. I enjoy the egg drop soup and we HAMMER down the sweet and sour chicken. It’s always hot, fresh, and flavorful. You get a good amount of food for the price as well. You will be pleased with the choice.

Google
Food was ok, general taos chicken was sweet not spicy at all...but the hot mustard worked and was the vestbhot mustard ive had in memphis so far, even got some to take home

Christopher Sexy Daddy

Google
Very dated with mediocre food and while we sat and are our late lunch the lady behind the bar decided it was a good time to clip her fingernails! That has to be the most disturbing sound you well ever hear while you are eating from anyplace let alone a place with a buffet!

Google
Great atmosphere, excellent service. The food was good. The crispy wontons were chewy.

Google
We were unsure about visiting due to the wildly varying reviews. I am glad we gave them a chance. Service was good, the food was good (not great, but good) and we thought the luncheon buffet had plenty to offer. As others mentioned, soup is brought to the table, a nice, hearty bowl of hot and sour soup and a very tasty won ton soup (but with only one wonton). Really enjoyed the broth. There was a great variety in my opinion. Our favorite dish was the twice cooked pork. My least favorite was the fried rice and my husband said his least favorite was the kung pao chicken. The restaurant was clean and I did not witness them trying to rush anyone. For a buffet, the egg rolls were winners. Easy parking.

Google
I dined here for the first time last night. It was most excellent! Our waitress was nice. She even accepted my order in Chinese! (I saw her writing our orders in traditional Chinese characters.) The food is still tremendous on the day after, and that's really something! We ordered Pork Ribs, 2 different kinds of Dumplings, General Tso''s Chicken, and Pork Egg Foo Yung. It was all superb... even the next day!

We found this spot on Google and it didn’t disappoint. We were driving from Tulsa to Knoxville and few places open on Christmas Day. Ordered online and picked up in less than 30 minutes. We ordered dumplings, chicken fried rice and honey glazed chicken. Staff was very welcoming. We will definitely revisit if we are ever in town.

Google
I really like the fried rice here. It always seems light and fresh for fried rice. The cashiers are always friendly.

Yelp
My wife and I have been here a few times since my last review. I grew up (in another city) going to suburban Chinese restaurants like this--westernized but very well done food...subdued lighting and a "dining" rather than "eating" atmosphere...prompt, gracious service. A nice, quiet, casual restaurant, perfect for a date or just a dinner with friends. Two things I wish were different: (1) I wish there were a way to keep food hotter...(2) I wish they had "proper" skinny noodles for their chow mein--not the huge dry ones they actually serve. The staff I've interacted with all have very pleasant manners. Haven't tried the lunch buffet yet, but certainly will. Go here...I predict you'll be pleased.

Yelp
I stopped in after my Doctors appointment since it was on the way and I'd heard so many good things about it. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was nice and clean from my vantage point. They had a buffet but I wasn't in the mood for that. I placed an order for the egg drop soup, 1 egg roll, 1 spring roll and wings. My food was ready pretty quickly and I was on my way. Once I made it home, I tried the spring and egg roll they were both solid nothing special but good. Next, I tried the egg drop soup and I enjoyed it, especially since I was under the weather. The wings were last and they were huge! I wonder how large was that chicken to produce wings that big! I was not a fan of the chicken but I would go back to try other items on the menu and I did enjoy the soup.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the three stars - this is the best buffet Memphis has to offer. Get there early for the buffet, because items tend to run out. Restaurant is decorated nicer than other Asian restaurants, but ambience is still lacking. On the particular day we visited, there must've been an AC issue, because several people had complained about how hot it was inside. I would go back, but for 16.97 a plate, I would consider simply ordering off the menu or starving myself beforehand to make it worth it

Yelp
Decent Asian food. Decent price. Good environment/ambiance. Wait staff is good and efficient.

Yelp
This was the first restaurant I tried when I move to Memphis, 1987! It's where I discovered the wonders (both taste and HEAT) of chili peppers. I've never had a bad meal there and when I noticed we hadn't been there in 3 years, we decided to rectify that mistake. We shared chicken and shrimp entrees from the dinner for 2 specials ($17 each). More than enough food, cooked to perfection (this time they toned the heat per my request). The service is exceptional. We need to make this our review date night place!

Yelp
The food was ok for a take out spot But the attitude an service was absolutely HORRIBLE came in at 1pm, an they sat us down instantly we are the only ppl here but it seems like the guy waiter was as upset he was rushing us to order. Never gave us straws. Sat across from us an ate his folk an completely ignored us. I don't know why or what we even did. We are literaly the only people here! The place just opened up

Yelp
All of the Food was cold .. we decided on the Buffett for variety but oh boy was I wrong. We were there around one o'clock .. food was cold .. Their service was pleasant .. fast and happy .. Ambiance was good .. couple tv's ... place was clean. It was too expensive for the variety of food served in the Lunch buffet and I came home made Ramen for dinner which ended up being tastier .. so save some money and go else where !!

Cynthia T.

Yelp
We had lunch today-first time back in several years. We stopped going previously because the food at buffet was never more than lukewarm. We work nearby and always arrive at the area restaurants by 11:45am. There's no improvement. Buffet food is still only lukewarm. The soup, which did not come from the buffet, was lukewarm. I am surprised the restaurant doesn't have a poor Health Department report. The service was at the other end of the spectrum ...quick, efficient, and pleasant. However, we won't be returning.

Yelp
Excellent wonton soup and their specialties are worth checking out. The triple harvest and General Tso's chicken are our favorites

Yelp
I've lived not far from Wang's Mandarin house since it opened in 1983. I've had a lot of it over the years, but usually I end up going to Formosa. If you want cheap Americanized Chinese food, this is an option. There's nothing impressive or special about it. In fact the inside of the restaurant could use some love, there is chipping paint and holes in the wall in some places. I think the restaurant is best appreciated for it its very inexpensive buffet, which I don't even know is functional since coronavirus. On this particular visit I got crispy duck. It came with a cup of rice and a little sauce. No vegetables no soup no nothing. It was just "fine". I usually don't leave bad reviews it makes me sad to do this but Wang's, you could do with a cosmetic update.

Marianne F.

Yelp
I ordered sesame chicken to go and it was awful. it was so tough I could barely pierce it with my fork. I feel like it was leftover from last week's buffet. the sauce was weird too. it was red like barbecue sauce and didn't taste like the sauce you usually get with sesame chicken. we really liked this restaurant in the past but the last time we ate there it wasn't very good but we decided to give it another try and it was even worse.

Yelp
If you order to pick up, make sure you check every item ordered at pick up to ensure that you get all you paid for... for instance, if you order Mu-shu dish, make sure they put the pancakes in with rest of the order. On 6/22/22 I ordered $40 worth of food including Mu-Shu Beef and when I got home, NO pancakes... They are delivering them at no charge (reallY? - surprises me)... but warm pancakes and cold Mu-shu doesn't cut it with me. I'd say, also, if you get your food by delivery, make sure you check it out before the delivery person leaves your door... This is basic stuff - order 5 items, get 5 items - no b/s "sorry about that - he must have forgotten to put the pancakes in with the order"!!!

Webb D.

Yelp
Awful. Just awful. Never going back. I order fried Pomeranian and they gave me fried Labrador! Also the orange chicken was more yellow than orange. When I poured the sweet and sour sauce, it had a viscosity than normal and there was chunks in it also. The waiter was rude and and the fish were all dead. NEVER coming here again.

Yelp
Randomly walked by this place heading to PF Chang's. Thought "what the heck, I'll try it" So glad I did!!!!! Met the owners (brother and sister) and had not only did we have an amazing meal, but a co-worker and I had a lot of laughs with the excellent wait staff. A++

Yelp
They are near my job so I enjoy the convenience as well as the food, I always get the shrimp fried rice, dumplings and crab Rangoon. They portions are getting smaller and smaller though.

Michael B.

Yelp
Ordered two appetizers for dinner, Honey Fire Shrimp and Lemon Pepper calamari. Absolutely disgusting! Overcooked frozen food service fried shrimp that you can buy at any grocery, and tasteless unseasoned frozen food service calamari that had no seasoning that came with a sweet and sour dipping sauce that was vile. Waiter stated he only serves what the kitchen sends out and didn't offer to deduct the items even though they weren't eaten other than initial, horrendous first bites. Will not be going back.
google avatar

Yelp
They deliver the wrong food. My wife ordered vegetable chow mein, and they delivered vegetables with tofu without noodles. And she ordered fried egg rolls and they ordered vegetarian eggrolls. They charge us delivery even though the menu said no delivery charge. They charged us more than what the updated menu listed. The food was very bland for both of us. My wife's food was unpalatable. What more can I say? We both felt cheated and called and they just gave us the runaround and basically told us where we could go.

Yelp
Simple authentic Chinese food. Fresh ingredients with great flavor. Main dish is the perfect portion size.

Yelp
We tried this place on a friends suggestion. We're from NYC and have it very difficult to find a Chinese restaurant that can match our expectations (snooty, I know, but hey....it's a culture shock down here). The food is amazing, albeit, a little more expensive than what we're used to. We had the cold sesame noodles which were okay, just very saucy (I liked them that way, my wife, not so much). Steamed dumplings - amazing pillows of porky steamed goodness. Lo Mein (roast pork) - outta this world! Best I've had in Memphis. General Tso Chicken - amazing as well! This dish is often goopy, nasty, and underwhelming in Memphis. It's terrific here. We ordered a couple other dishes that have escaped my mind, but they were good as well. Get yourself to Wang's!

Jake G.

Yelp
I've never been more disappointed with any restaurant like this in my life. I tried everything from the buffet and couldn't take more than two bites. It was all terrible, don't waste your money coming here. The worst Chinese food I've ever had in my life.

Yelp
It's been way too long since I was here! The interior has very much changed & it is lovely. The food has remained very good, with a change up of selections. This place is clean, comfortable and has a very nice look and feel with an upscale touch that is still casual. It is owned and operated by wonderful folks of Chinese decsnt and they share their appreciation of that cuisine and see to it things are done right and with a classy flair. The food is some if the very best Chinese around . Today we had hot & sour soups, Hunan dmplings, Hunan beef & szechuan scallops. The food was excellent & service equally great. 8 have many favorites here. The piano bar is well stocked, most comfortable, enjoyable and exquisitely done. Lunch buffers are offered and full menu is outstanding! Highly recommended,, nice to be back and we'll be back soon!!

Yelp
Best Taiwanese pork chop over rice in Memphis!! I'm from NYC and I have yet to have this dish in TN. The dish is served with minced pork and pickled mustard greens. It would be great if it came with a boiled egg which is the traditional way this dish is served but I'm okay without it since the pork chop is so well seasoned. It's Huuuuuuge. I've also had their Beef noodle soup which is pretty good as well. I'll be back to try some more dishes but this place has enough stuff and also enough tables to fit your party. It even has a piano in the restaurant. I heard there is a buffet during the daytime that is nice and inexpensive

Yelp
The buffet has been very cold both times I've been here recently. Like, the Heather's are broken or something. The food has not tasted fresh at all. The meat has had sketchy texture as well. Very off putting. This is a shame too because I loved coming here. I'm sorry to say, this will most likely be my last trip. I had a few bites and i'm leaving because it's so bad. Oh well, plenty of other places to eat lunch. By Wang's, I normally don't say goodbyes but this is the end of our relationship. I think it's time we go our separate ways. Just know i once loved you.... long-time. Hahaha
google avatar

Sebina M.

Yelp
They have the best egg drop soup and fried rice ever! I love coming here for their lunch buffet. Food is always fresh and hot! They are always so friendly too!

Yelp
I thought the food was really good! Decor is well, not my culture, so I don't know. Wait staff seems to be family, at least they act as if... There was one scary younger Asian guy with a full beard. I wasn't sure if he was angry or just intense. He looked like the buffet bouncer. There was a Lacrosse team in the restaurant the day I visited. I almost left because it was so full, but they assured me, they "had a special buffet" just for them. The Hot and Sour Soup was very rich and savory. Not really spicy but spiced well if you know what I mean. The veggies and tofu were marinated well in the soup. Delicious! I think this is how it's supposed to be! Minimal crunchy things were needed. I had Szechuan Beef (I think, pretty sure) and it was pretty stellar. It was fresh, light tasting, hot, cooked well, and just darn right good! The beef was sliced less than an 1/8 of an inch and was still very tender. I really enjoyed my lunch here. The people watching was great as I dined alone. I will be back here! It cost $7.10 with tax and I was really well fed, good homemade food, and I was excited to come again when I left.

Yelp
I guess 3 stars is the best I can do. Fairly disappointed in the tofu options. They are NOT your typical battered and deep fried then sauced tofu options. They are just sauteed with the sauce (which was pretty bland and definitely not spicy). We got the sesame tofu, general tso's tofu, and the orange tofu. All three sauces tasted the same which again were pretty bland. The spring rolls were really yummy! The food looked good but didn't taste very good unfortunately

Yelp
Goodo location, friendly and clean environment...food was good and fast. Definitely worth giving a try. Ill be back..

Yelp
Ordered online for pickup in the restaurant. Completed and paid for the order online. When I arrived, the order was sitting on the counter and it was a bit awkward trying to explain that I had paid for it online to the lady at the hostess stand. Finally, another person verified and off I went. When I arrived home, I opened the chicken chow mein and it had a strange smell - something I didn't want to eat for sure. I planned to bring it back the next day. Opened the order of beef fried rice and noticed that it wasn't full like it should have been. Since that's all my dinner was going to consist of, I wasn't in a position to be choosy. It was very good. Not sure what was bad in the chow mein, but I wasn't about to take a chance with it. Don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon.
google avatar

Lola P.

Yelp
Arrived and called in my order of 2 orders of chicken wings, one order of shrimp fried rice and 2 egg rolls. The egg rolls were half cooked and the fried chicken wings were full of grease. The shrimp fried rice was Excellent. If I go there again it will be only for shrimp fried rice. I paid $27.00 for this. It's a Pandemic and we just wanted to eat out this one time since March 1. We were very very disappointed. Did not take food back because restaurants are hurting.

Yelp
Closest to authentic Chinese I have found in East Memphis. The food is delicious and you can get some really authentic dishes not offered elsewhere.
google avatar

Ron G.

Yelp
I don't leave this review to be critical or mean spirited.. I leave it in the hopes that the owners will improve. I ordered general tsos chicken , hot and spicy soup, and fried rice . All of them were mediocre at best , lack of significant flavor , as good as the frozen Chinese food we get at Costco
google avatar

Annie P.

Yelp
amazing service. Everyone was so kind, and conversational! They seemed to be keeping the place clean and organized amidst covid too, which is always a necessity. As for the food, my siblings loved it as did I. Their egg foo young is delicious! As well as their spring rolls. This was one of the last times I get to eat out with my siblings for a while since I'm moving out of the house for university 10 hours away, so I'm so glad it was a great experience.

Sarah D.

Yelp
The service was good, everyone was very friendly and the wait wasn't long, but none of that outweighs the fact that the food just wasn't good. I ordered sweet and sour chicken with wonton soup and crab Rangoon, and I can't say that I enjoyed any of it. The chicken was hard, the sweet and sour sauce did not taste good, and the wonton soup tasted kind of like chemicals. Was it edible? Yes. Will I ever be visiting again? No.

Yelp
If one star means will never come back and two stars means that it would take something major like a change of ownership to come back then this is a grudging two stars. First the good: The atmosphere was nice and the interior was inviting and clean looking. Colors and decorations as well as general Decor are pleasant and inviting. Overall, the waitstaff was courteous and pleasant. The menu was robust and filled with many traditional choices. Egg drop soup: (see photos) Very tasty and the star of the meal. Spring rolls: (see photos) Exceedingly greasy and not remarkable taste. Just there. Would not reorder. That said; The three sauces were solid. (see photos) Duk sauce, red sauce, hot mustard. Chicken egg foo young: (see photos) This dish is often a bit oily due to the fact it is deep-fried or in this case supposedly Wok fried. Unfortunately, the onions were large and raw and the chicken was without any flavor. The entire patty featured raw large chunks of vegetables and what tasted like reheated chicken. Tasted bad. We sent this back. The brown sauce was not bad. (see picture) Chicken fried rice: (see photos) Tasteless, oily, more reheated chicken & definitely not good. Rice tasted like reheated. Nothing fresh about this. Not recommended. Cashew Chicken: (see photos) Not hot but kind of warm. Raw vegetables that did not resemble any attempt to stir fry. Chicken wasn't fresh and tasted like reheated and microwaved. Carrots, bell pepper and celery were hard. Not recommended. This used to be one of the better Chinese restaurants in the Memphis area. Right now it seems like is sub par on any metric that counts. Wanted to look at the kitchen but am now glad that I did not. There are better choices for fresh and delicious Chinese cuisine in the Memphis area. We went in with a positive attitude and tried to stay positive throughout the visit. We wanted to have an enjoyable dinner and to give a good review. Horribly Disappointed This is a NOT RECOMMENDED.

Yelp
The older women with the grey hair and glasses was extremely rude. i will never go back there again. food is not good enough to put up with someone's attitude, she was extremely nice to the white people behind me tho.
google avatar

Joey S.

Yelp
Guess you could have figured after my review of their bar next door (East Tapas) that I would also give this location a great review and I will. Stopped in here due to a private party next door and I am very glad I did. The food was extremely tasty, service was quick and my water glass was never dry. It was a little disappointing that I didn't have room for any dessert options, but that really wasn't their fault as I ate my meal and couldn't eat anymore. I will gladly stop in again while it town.
google avatar

Rhonda R.

Yelp
Enjoyed a great dinner with a variety of food. The food was amazing and I also enjoyed spring rolls and egg rolls

Jason G.

Yelp
Don't know how a mediocre Chinese place can have as many stars as this does. Service was good but just barely a step above Panda Express
google avatar

Alexander S.

Yelp
While the hot and sour soup and eggrolls were good, I also ordered the General Tso's Chicken. Not one piece of chicken was edible. It was loosely breaded and spongy consisting only of fat or grizzle-type meat with a piece of bone. I think it was supposed to be thigh meat, but it seemed like it was the cut away pieces they were supposed to throw away, all the fat, skin, and knuckles, not the big chunks of meat that one would expect. I ordered it from Uber Eats (obviously not their fault), so I couldn't return it to the kitchen. I tried to bite into each piece hoping that it would be better and ended up throwing out the entire dish.
google avatar

Yelp
Had the Hawaiian fried rice to takeout. It was delicious and the staff couldn't be more friendly. The lady who greeted me was so lovely and gracious. I look forward to going back to try. One of the other dishes.

Yelp
Well Memphis,TN is known for it's ribs but Beyond Benihana which is American Japanese tippenyaki/hibachi and a Chinese Franchise nearby called PF Changs. This Chinese restaurant is very good and delicious if not authentic! What surprises me more is that the natives do not know where to go for great authentic Chinese food especially Mandarin Chinese cooking. It is funny that a tourist from Chicago has to write a review on this but I just had to to give this place a good word if you crave for great Chinese Food. I have been to so many cities both here in the USA and some European towns to try Chinese food and it is so funny for a small southern city that is poor and has high crime rate would have such a hidden underrated gem for Chinese. Anyways it is buy a strip mall and has been there for quite some time. I asked any of the hotel staff that I stayed at Hampton Inn nearby if they knew where to find the best Chinese food and they had no clue. Thank goodness for having a mobile smart phone I was able to find one but I was apprehensive if 1st because I had been to certain cities (Like Minneapolis, MN) That had one Chinese restaurant near the Mall of America that has been there for years just to find out it was NOT as good as the natives say. But going back I was with 2 other family guests and that one guest was craving for great Chinese food as well as myself. I had walked in and was impress by the clean Chinese Inspired Ambiance despite that their aquarium had tetra fish instead of traditional goldfish either fancy or comets or Koi fish but Koi fish is Japanese decor than Chinese. We we're seated promptly by a staff member and had our menu placed. As I ordered I noticed one entree which too me is unusual to see in any Chinese entree. They had Lamb with Scallions or onions or onion leaves. Sounded delicious so I ordered that since most Chinese restaurants either use, Chicken, Shrimp, Pork or Beef.. My other guest had the Family Dinner which came with a choice of 1 main entree and one appetizer entree. They ordered egg rolls and a hot and sour soup. As our order came I was expecting bad tasting food but "WOW" it actually was good. The Hot and sour soup was not full of salt or MSG, The Fried Rice they brought out that my guest shared with me and among ourselves was tasty and not greasy like some Chinese Restaurants that deliver fried rice despite the portion size which was small and my lamb with scallions and my guest Chicken and broccoli in white garlic sauce tasted fresh and delicious. This place whoever comes to Memphis deserves the 4 stars. Reason why I could not give 5 stars was that despite the good Chinese food the portions for the fried rice was a bit small as I mentioned and there was some gnats flying around me out of nowhere when I was eating at our table. Other than that, do come here if craving for Chinese food. The reviews were true since this was on a food magazine rant in Memphis which is why I went here. I do wonder though with PF Changs how competition is? PF Changs is also expensive per entree and this place was reasonable. Other surprise too was that they charge for Chinese black tea in which Chinese Restaurants elsewhere do not with the exception of here in Memphis and in Montreal, Quebec Canada when I had Chinese cuisine 7 years ago.

Yelp
Just had a delightful dinner at Wang's...noticed there are two, this is the one just a block from Saint Francis Hospital on Park. Easy walk (literally, one block) from Marriott Courtyard, Hyatt Place and LaQuinta, or quick drive if it's cold, like tonight! Congenial waitstaff, very nice decor, food was hot and GOOD! Had the Chicken and Crispy Rice, plenty for two, full of chicken, water chestnuts, snow peas, and mushrooms. Noticed they greeted numerous guests by name, so obviously, a very "returnable" restaurant. Have been back several times and always enjoyed ourselves.

Sandy J.

Yelp
I dined here with friends, and all of our meals were absolutely delicious, and the service was outstanding. We had the Mu-Shu pork and Szechuan beef. Be sure and ask for Hai-Ling who was so attentive and delightful!

Yelp
Very nice owner. My partner and I came in and she treats everyone like she knows them.

Yelp
Love this place! I love the shrimp fried rice and shrimp chow mein. It is absolutely delicious.

Greggory H.

Yelp
Really great food. Just be sure to check your takeout order before leaving the restaurant. I highly recommend the mu shu chicken.

Dennis G.

Yelp
Had the lunch buffet. Wasn't impressed. Not enough selections, and the food is not fresh. The desserts are also lacking. I think they had like two options. I would rather pay a little more and eat at Pacific Fusion next time. I know Wang's has good food if you order off the menu, but their buffet doesn't do it for me.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
Chinese food in Memphis? Couldn't be good, could it? Actually, the shrimp lettuce wrap that I ordered was pretty good, better than many other lettuce wraps I've had over the years. I went as part of a large dinner party (around 20, with separate checks) and we used their private room. What was a little disturbing was that the orders were taken within a few minutes of each other but the first group literally finished their food and paid their checks before I got my food. Not sure if their kitchen is on the small side but the rest of the restaurant was less than half full and had substantial capacity so I can only wonder what they would do if they hosted a genuinely large banquet.

Yelp
The dish i order(triple harvest)does not say it has mushrooms in it, but it does......i still order it but ask for no mushrooms....yet every time there is still mushrooms in it and it makes meal unappetizing to me. I just dont get it....???? Otherwise, egg drop soup and house fried ruce were good.
