"Ulla Winbladh was originally built as a steam bakery for the 1897 Stockholm World Fair and is set in charming parkland beside the Skansen open-air museum. Sit on the terrace or in the older, more characterful part of the building. Typical Swedish dishes include the likes of fish roe and sweet and sour herring." - Michelin Inspector

We had dinner at Wärdshuset Ulla Winbladh and were truly impressed by the beautiful, serene location and the well-maintained gardens—both indoor and outdoor. The setting is peaceful and elegant, and cleanliness throughout was outstanding. However, the dining experience fell well short of expectations. With the exception of the head waiter who welcomed us warmly, the entire service staff appeared exhausted and disengaged—no smiles, no warmth, even when tipped. This was consistent across tables, not just ours. The food, unfortunately, was very disappointing. The bread was cold, hard, and clearly not fresh. The butter was so firm it crumbled. I ordered the poached cod dish—what arrived was a bland, thawed-tasting fillet with no sauce, just a sprinkle of salt and a single dill sprig. It was served over bland, clearly frozen nano-sized shrimp and crumbled egg bits, accompanied by a side of plain boiled potatoes—which, ironically, were the best part of the dish. My friend ordered the herring and found it barely edible. With only nine main dishes on the menu, we expected focus and quality. Sadly, what we received was far below standard for a restaurant of this reputation and price point. A beautiful venue—worth a walk around—but not worth dining at unless major changes are made to food quality and staff engagement.

Our hotel recommended this place for some good Swedish food and it didn’t disappoint! The old-timey room was charming and the food was delicious including the crawfish and the cod. Of the many meatballs we tried on this trip, these were my favorite. The only disappointing dish was the roe because the toast was oddly very bitter. The service was rather slow but charming by our Elvis Costello look alike waiter.

Beautiful restaurant with classic Swedish fare. Great service and ambiance. We had toast Skagen as appetizer and it was very good - almost on the dry side. For main course we had meat balls and they were a bit underwhelming - quite hard and dry. Not what we expected. We also had the Biff Rydberg which was magnificent. Perfectly cooked with a really tasty mustard cream. Overall well worth a visit and a great representation of the best of Swedish food tradition.

Had a wonderful dinner at Ulla Winbladh — the Swedish meatballs were delicious and the strawberry dessert was the perfect finish. Big thanks to our server, Magnes, who was attentive, friendly, and made the experience even better. Highly recommend!

The best place! Came in without a reservation, seated after a short wait at the bar. Every single member of staff was absolutely delighted to be there and so lovely. We felt very welcomed and comfortable. First time in Sweden and first time trying meatballs here, they were amazing! The whole meal was beautiful and service was great!

about a 3-minute walk to Skansen, the location is fantastic. The service was excellent, the food was delicious with a good variety, and the prices were very reasonable. Totally beyond our expectation

Normally when I go to djurgården I’ll go to Skroten (which is a little homy family restaurant) but this time I think to try something “better” because my parents came to visit me in Stockholm, so i brought them to Ulla. A HUGE MISTAKE. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ The staffs were so overwhelmed, me and my family waited for 15min in the rain to be served. The lady who served our table looked at us like we own her a debt. My parents would like to have warm water instead of cold water to drink, she looked at us like aliens and brought a tea pot of hot water without tea. At the end it appears on the bill 50sek for this pot of hot water. This never happened to me anywhere in Stockholm, nor in any Nordic country. We should have bought our own kettle to this restaurant 🙄SHAME!🙄 Let’s speak about the food, I ordered my dad herring for him to try, it arrived the table like burned crisps. He didn’t complain but I can hear the crunchiness when he chews.🤦🏻‍♀️ the meatball was ok but really it will be a huge shame if a swede can be even wrong with meatball 🤦🏻‍♀️ With all that said, I deeply regretted that I didn’t bring my parents to Skroten, Ulla left my parents the impression that Swedish food is bad and expensive and I’m starving here (which is not true!)🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ will never go back to this place again…

While the food was amazing, we waited over an hour for our orders. I much prefer the indoor seating to outdoor, even though it was sunny and breezy. The indoor atmosphere feels much more homey.
