I've been to One-Eyes Betty's enough times that I feel like I'm on a first name basis. Is it okay if I call you Betty? Great.
I've been impressed by how you've weathered the last 2 years, Betty. You kept on going, keeping things safe while continuing to serve up phenomenal food, with a stunning variety of beers and mixed drinks.
Today felt just as awesome as the first time we met. The Brussels sprouts were perfect: a massive bowl of sprouts that didn't taste greasy or burned. Being able to get bacon and cheese sprinkled on top is a nice touch, though I passed on that option this time.
The French dip was substantial with high quality beef, as always. And, the grilled cheese is the next best thing to my mom's: super buttery and cheesy with thick bread to soak up the butter.
But, Betty, we need to talk about the fish tacos. The fish itself is beautiful, sushi-grade tuna with a brief sear on the outside. And, there's a lot of it. These are three, adult-sized tacos, not those cute little baby tacos you normally get with fish tacos. And, the rice that came with it is steamed perfectly.
So, why did you decide to obliterate the flavor with an overly intense wasabi mayo? And, those beautiful strips of watermelon radish look pretty, but raw radish is a strong flavor, too, even without the murder mayo all over it. Pickled would have been better
The good news is they there was so much food that I was able to take them home, clean them up, and enjoy them. Seriously, Betty...either warn your customers or serve it with the murder mayo on the side.
Don't worry, Betty. I still love you, and I will be back. But, I'm skipping the mayo when I order those tacos.
