A Chile Road Trip on the I-25 from Las Cruces to Denver | Eater

"A Santa Ana Pueblo-run fuel stop busy with construction workers and commuters that offers to-go breakfast burritos and serving pots of green chile stew—pork, potatoes, and strands of pepper—hearty, portable, and fiery." - Gustavo Arellano

Cashiers are very friendly and the cafe sells delicious posole and tamales. I've yet to try the other items on the menu but I know they are just as delicious. They also have Indian bread. Bathroom is always clean too. It does get busy because it is a popular place to fill up your tank but worth it especially if you want to stop by and pick up a bite to eat at the little Cafe.

Google
This place is my go to spot whenever I head up North To SLC or whenever I come back down to AZ, NM. This place is always clean and they have excellent, well price breakfast burritos. I always make a plan to stop where whenever I'm on the 550 and they never disappoint. Lots of folks think the same so its always busy, which is a very good thing.

Google
Convenient location and easy in and off from the highway. Several pumps to keep the crowds moving. Lots of snack, drink, and food options for the hungry/thirsty traveller. Restrooms were clean and in working order, which seems hard for some places to get right. All in all a nice travel stop.

Arianne Manning

Google
I love the drive through for my cigarettes and nicotine pouches! The price is unbeatable, and the workers are always so nice and helpful.

Google
Please put up the appropriate signage according to state code, so when you tow someone, whose pulled over for an emergency and forced to leave the car there for less than 10 hour, it is Legal. So they don’t look around the lot for aforementioned signage and decide that they will be ok as long as they leave a note and are there bright and early to deal with it because there is no indication that they will be towed, whose towing it, how much, whose responsible for paying if towed. All things that are required to be posted in order for a private lot to be legally allowed to tow a vehicle. I understand needing the spot. However the least you can do is put up the appropriate signage so that I can adjust accordingly.

Rob

Google
Absolutely spotless, the burritos are stellar, and the friendliest people I’ve ever met in a gas station. May God bless them.

Google
The place was super busy, and the pump was slow. Ended not filling up because it took 15 minutes to pump 12 gallons. Entry and exiting the station is terrible. Not made for RV's.

Alysha Valdez

Google
Easy location to stop on and off the freeway without wasting too much time. There are several gas pumps available so you shouldn't ever have a wait (or too long of one). Large selections of snacks, drinks and other conveniences. The bathrooms are always clean here which is why I make this my stop when coming through town. Overall a good place to stop by for a bathroom break, fill up, etc.

Yelp
Some people have complaints about the gas station but I come here for the food. The cashiers are friendly and the restaurant is good and very reasonable. Who would think that a simple under $3 bean, cheese, and green chile burrito could be so good! If you know green chile, you can tell that the chile they use is freshly roasted and not from frozen. It makes a difference and very few restaurants do this. Thinking about buying some of these, taking them home and smothering with some red and topping with some cheese. I digress. Can't wait to try their green chile stew, posole and menudo. $11.98 for 32 ounces! Menudo, Wednesday through Sunday. Posole, everyday. Green chile stew, Monday and Tuesday. Restaurant quality without the fuss. Wish it was closer but well worth the 20 minute drive.

Angry M.

Yelp
These guys have no business being in business. Just about everyone that works here have very poor customer service skill where the customer is never right. I will never go there again
google avatar

Dylan W.

Yelp
Worst service avoid stopping here if you can I used to always try to stop for cheap gas but it's not worth the stop
google avatar

Scott J.

Yelp
This station is usually crowded but the quick service restaurant inside is worthy of a stop Delicious burritos ready in a snap. Barbacoa anyone? Chicken.... Base is a fresh flour tortilla with rice and beans with your choice of protein Oh yea.....give this place a try

Yelp
Love the price of the gas and I always pick up the posole and menudo from the station inside. The red chili posole is always great first thing in the morning along with the menudo! I always pick up a pueblo bread with the meal as well. I will have to say that this meal keeps me full for most of the day. Gas prices are always at the best price and very competitive with Albuquerque.

Anne H.

Yelp
The prices are usually pretty good but what a FILTHY gas station. Management needs to have someone pick up all the trash around the gas pumps. Power wash around the gas pumps some time. Be sure to wear close-toed shoes since it's so dirty!
google avatar

Bethany F.

Yelp
I've never had a bad experience. Every time I'm here getting snacks or gas the workers are always nice.

Mike F.

Yelp
Good price on gas always. Friendly fast employees. Great breakfast burritos and they're cheap. My only complaint is that the bean and cheese burritos are hard to get. I feel like I won the lottery when I actually get one. They're awesome but they're very hard to come by. I buy burritos here at 6am twice a week or more. I'm only able to get a bean burrito if I'm running late. PLEASE make an effort to have bean and cheese green burritos out by 6am!!! Please!!! Love them.

Cars N.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible gas station, the rv dump site has been closed for 2 years for some reason. No exit out of this shit hole, it is blocked off with curbs. Prices are higher than anyone in Bernalillo, if you are going to run your business like this just close up and GET OUT!
google avatar

Kathleen C.

Yelp
Wow awesome Green Chile stew, didn't get the tamales due to customer service issues. I will definitely be back for your awesome stew. Thank you.
google avatar

Tony M.

Yelp
This place is very busy but the staff is nice and friendly. I would guess that they don't get to the lot that often as all the trash cans were full so was a little dirty.

Yelp
BEWARE!! Stopped here to gas up, and grab a couple drinks. The clerk charged us for to many redbulls and asked us to grab another one. We agreed trying to make things less difficult. Then the lady clerk was rude for no reason yelling at us that it had to be the same color red bull he charged us for. So we asked for our money back. While waiting she yelled at me that my beer "had to be in a bag" well then your clerk should have put it in one. Really her attitude was terrible and killed our whole whole experience. Lady should be fired if this is how she treats customers. Absolutely ridiculous.

Amy S.

Yelp
The food is excellent. Posole and Green Chile Stew are a staple in our home. Friendly service.

Ellie S.

Yelp
The guy at the smoke shop is extremely rude especially to women. The rest of the place is nice though

Alexis M.

Yelp
I don't know how they manage to sell gas here so much cheaper than anywhere else in the area! I looked at reviews & saw the cheap gas was true & someone suggested grabbing a burrito as well.... It was a pretty good burrito too! They had fresh pineapple & grapes for only $2.99 as well! Great deals!
google avatar

Yelp
The gas prices here are extremely low, usually 5 to 10 cents lower than any surrounding places. Workers here have always been helpful and friendly. They have your usual selection of canned and bottled beverages and a soft drink station. They have a smoke shop and a humidor with cigars. What sets this aside from the common gas station - convenience store are the handmade New Mexican foods. They offer breakfast burritos, posole (red and green), and tamales. I asked the older lady working there, who makes the posole and tamales. She told me in Spanish that there are four ladies, including her, who make them daily. We got a 32 ounce tub of the Red chile posole and two tamales. We ate them at home. The 32 ouncer was perfect to fill two people. The posole was still steaming hot! It had wonderful, big chunks of perfectly savory pork. The red chíle was spicey, but not over the top hot. Great posole. The tamales were too small. They didn't put enough meat filling, so the masa was overwhelming. There is also a growler filling station with most of the local microbreweries on tap. The cost is pretty cheap to fill a growler, about eleven bucks. A great deal! We are going to get a growler filled next visit. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it is almost impossible to get out of here during rush hour. If you are headed westbound on 550 expect to wait at least 10 minutes. They really should consider putting a traffic light here.

Yelp
The new make over is great, the car wash is wonderful and the new Blake's Whatabuger right there is great? The only downfall to the gas station is that is is ALWAYS packed and whatever food service store they have in there kind of makes it stink and not in a good way!
google avatar

Yelp
My stop for petro and much more. I tend to stretch and plan my fill ups just so I can strop here. Some fuel and great burritos. Try the picadillo burrito with beans and rice. A meal in itself. This place is always hopping and somehow staff manages to accommodate everyone very well. When in Bernalillo, gas up and grab a burro.
google avatar

Andy C.

Yelp
Great gas prices but their hours are sub-par and their staff is not helpful and can be outright rude.
google avatar

Susan P.

Yelp
Cashier was sooooooooo rude. Disabled elder, riding on empty, left my wallet and had small change to offer. She refused it and snapped 'next' before I could even take a step. Hire some decent staff.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
Pulled over on a long journey through the city after seeing the "fresh food". Walked up to the counter after a long pee and two ladies were behind the counter. As I walked up, they disappeared and stated they were closed for lunch... it is 6:33 pm.

Carol S.

Yelp
Nice clean gas station w/ decent food selections. Terrible traffic getting here and it was pinned in the wrong place. Should be further NW a bit.
google avatar

Will S.

Yelp
Sure, gas at Price Club is cheaper - but they pissed me off, I'm sure if you have ever done business with them you feel a similar urge. Warrior II has nice people, they have great (cheap) burritos, and local beer in growlers. Granted, that isn't why a person goes to a gas station, but this is the gas station of the future. I think the only thing that could improve this gas station is a really grisly accident. You know, a station wagon full of nuns being creamed by a semi-trailer truck. They need a light, so you don't take your life into your hands to buy a lottery ticket and a burrito... OH -- they have great gas prices too...

Yelp
Hubby is impressed. Big place, clean and well stocked. He only stopped to go pee but he was impressed!

Angela H.

Yelp
Husband was In process of pulling mask up and with other hand opening the door when a security guard said put your mask on. my husband said I am And as soon as I walk across the thresh hole it will be on. The security guard who DID NOT have his own mask on above his moth Yanked the door out of my husbands hand and jerked his shoulder. He asked why did you do that? The guard said because people say they will put their mask on and don't. my husband said if you are going to do this to people, you need to put your mask on correctly. He said umph, and my husband said have a nice day and left. We will NOT be going back to this gas station ever.

Yelp
Doesn't even deserve one star. Worst customer service. I would rather pay $20 a gallon then buy gas from them ever again.

Yelp
A big fan of this gas station!! It's one of my favorites; however, it needs to be larger and closer to the freeway because getting to this gas station is IMPOSSIBLE sometimes due to all the darn Rio Ranchy traffic!! I have nightmares on how bad the traffic during rush hour, so I avoid this entire area like the plague during those peak times. Now, that I've shared that unpleasantness, let me elaborate on the awesomeness of this gas station. Gas stations are typically my last choice for food, drinks, and bathroom-usage, so it may come to a BIG Surprise to people like me who are floored when going to this location. Gas prices??? Best in town (and out of town) by far!! Food? You can find breakfast burritos in the AM, fresh & high-quality sandwiches and salads, donuts and pastries, and other fresh items. There is an ATM and the typical gas station/convenient store supplies and items. Bathrooms? Always clean and available. This is my favorite gas station in the Albuquerque metro area, just wish it was a bit closer to the highway.

Yelp
Easy off easy on. Good prices. Clean restrooms and they s convenience store. Drive thru eats and drive through smokes, if that matters to you.

Yelp
It's a gas station, right? Well, think of something a few notches above that and you'll have an idea. First, it's pretty dang large and I overheard a lady saying it was pretty. I'm not sure I agree with that comment but I think she's referring to the use of flagstone on the supports and walls. The interior is well lit and very nice with clean bathrooms, counter seating, an ATM and all the usual things you'd expect to find in a convenience store. Tons of cold drinks in the range from colas and energy drinks, to beer and other similar libations. There is even a giant beer tub filled with ice in the middle of the floor. They have a large smoke shop inside selling everything from packs to cartons and most an interesting feature is their tiny humidor. Fresh cigars to celebrate that fill-up! Does your favorite filling station have that? They have a grill they're not yet using, but they are pushing out hot New Mexican food made daily, I'm told Chile Rellenos, beans & rice are a daily feature and the $1.50 breakfast burritos are quite popular. The food was finished when I arrived, so I'll have to try them another time. Second, they have two drive-up windows. One is for smokes and the other is for food and drinks. If you choose to eat indoors, you'll sit facing your cars at a counter near the window. The staff here was very friendly and helpful. They answered all my questions and were asked by two different staffer if they could help us as we looked around. They told us, in a whisper. that a car wash is pending. (Although I'll whisper to you that I'm not sure where it would fit on the current lot and I'm not sure why we're whispering...but shhh) Finally, the gas prices. Since opening the gas here is about 10 cents cheaper than its sister station across the street at the Original Warrior station. That is because this station is currently Unbranded, while Warrior 1 is Phillips 66 gas. If I may suggest a place for you to pull over and gas up, grab a snack, drink and cigar without being too forward; I suggest Warrior 2. Happy Motoring Yelper!

Yelp
My favourite gas station in the area. They have fresh food cooked all day long for sale, lots of drinks and candy. The gas is always awesomely priced. Bathrooms are always clean and employees are always happy to help.

Thomas F.

Yelp
Prices are pretty good but the staff had a "don't care" attitude when I reported a malfunctioning pump.

George R.

Yelp
I was so disappointed to discover that the fuel limit was $75. I needed 75 GALLONS. While the clerk was helpful and apologetic, he wanted credit card, driver license AND telephone number. Those are the most restrictive caveats I've ever seen. They must get a lot of drive offs. Additionally, fuel was 5 cents cheaper down the road.

Candy G.

Yelp
Gas is gas, right? So, it's the other things that make or break a gas station. If you park in front of the store, it can be impossible to back out to leave. It is not an easy place to navigate. There just isn't enough space for the moving traffic. The clerks inside are not well trained either.
google avatar

Lorelai G.

Yelp
I waited in line for 5 minutes ready to pay for gas, guy helped 2 young ladies in front of me, very nice to them, then after he was done with them he walked away, knowing I was in line!!!!!! Obviously I went somewhere else..........
google avatar

Omi S.

Yelp
One of the cheapest Fuel stops in our area, and they've got a full service tobacco shop as well as a cafeteria kitchen! I'm new to New Mexico cuisine, but they've got some pretty tasty local dishes served up in convenient lunch specials. This place is awesome.

D Q.

Yelp
I am new to the area and have received excellent customer service with regards to products and services. Also, I had an incident where I thought sunglasses were taken from my car. The manager did not skip a beat with reviewing the security cameras. I later found them under the driver's seat. Thanks so much!
google avatar

Rand R.

Yelp
Convenient location, great gas prices!
google avatar

Mark R.

Yelp
What I like about the station is the number of filling pumps (20!) and how easy it is to get in and out and back on 550. Prices are the lowest or near the lowest in the area. Store is very clean and well stocked. Staff always is friendly.
