The 20 Best Restaurants in Waikiki, Hawaiʻi | Eater

"The Breakers Hotel is one of Waikīkī’s few remaining two-story hotels from the 1950s, and it’s hardly changed, with shoji sliding doors and wood jalousies. By the pool you’ll find the peaceful and charming Wasabi Bistro. Its signature dishes include papaya seafood motoyaki: shrimp, scallops, and mayo piled into a half papaya and broiled. The menu is as low key as the environment, with everything from the sushi to misoyaki butterfish prepared with care. Must-try dish: Spicy tuna on crispy rice chips." - Martha Cheng

Google
So glad we decided to try Wasabi Bistro. Over the years of coming to Oahu from SF, we would pass by this somewhat hidden and unassuming spot when going to the tonkatsu spot across the street. We enjoyed our time there so much we came back two days later. We made a reservation and though we came a day early (oops!) they were able to accommodate our party of 5. Past a hotel pool is a small, quaint little restaurant with about 10 tables and a small sushi bar. Clean, well lit with the most kind, courteous staff we’ve encountered in a long time. They were all genuinely eager to please, without being intrusive and anticipated our needs and accommodating our numerous requests (we have some food allergies and 2 young kids). On our first time, we ordered cold sake that came in the small boxes that had extra sake (!), and gyoza, edamame, a full set of chicken teriyaki, cold udon, tempura, and a variety of maki and nigiri (spicy tuna, California roll, avocado maki, botan shrimp. Food was prepared with care, came out quickly and all delicious! Our second time we tried the Maui onion salad (I highly recommend), more sushi/maki, and more sake! And the tamago (a true barometer of a good sushi spot IMO, was delightful!) Can’t wait to return to this wonderful place. Reservations recommended but you may be able to get in the same day just call ahead! Mahalo Wasabi Bistro!

Google
An amazing experience in a hidden away gem! Waikiki can be quite expensive to eat out but these folks keep costs to realistic and affordable! The staff were so friendly and we noticed many locals patron this place, so an excellent sign. They also have a great selection of specials you won’t see until you arrive at great prices! I would highly recommend a visit.

Google
The sashimi was delicious. Small portions for each type of fish. This is quality over quantity. The chef gave an exceptional show and explanation. Loved it!

Google
The best authentic sushi spot in Hawaii. Sashimi is super fresh and the ambience is amazing. The service i received from the servers were top notch. I really recommend this place if you love fresh sashimi! This was my favorite restaurant during my visit to Waikiki.

Google
Excellent and very authentic sushi experience! Very glad to have found this place during my trip to Honolulu. Would recommend making reservations for here but if you're a party of two or fewer, there's open bar seating.

Google
Our first time here, was delicious. Great service; kind, friendly and very attentive. Highly recommend the dry sake, miso soup, spicy edamame, agadashi tofu, and most of all, the sushi was exceptionally fresh. We had the best time!

Google
In one word: Amazing. It has been a shame that I was born and raised a mile and a half away and only recently “discovered” this gem on a visit home. We enjoyed our first visit so much it, we made reservations again a few nights later! The service was impeccable. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. They asked questions regarding our taste palette and brought out dishes they thought we would enjoy. On our second visit, they remembered us, our drink and food preferences, and it made us feel valued and prioritized. We have dined at multiple Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe and five-star restaurants across the country and Hawaii… Wasabi Bistro is by far the top of our list when it comes to our best dining experience. We can’t wait to return!

Google
Worth the time for waiting! We had to make appointment to get a seat at last available slot, but totally worth it! Raw seafood is very delicious and fresh. I can taste the little sweet from the scallop. They also serve a couple of unique dish. For example, the baked papaya get it's taste into seafood. Very good!environment is good too. Feels like a real Japanese restaurant. Highly recommend restaurant in Waikiki. Not easy for parking. We walked to this restaurant.

Yelp
Tucked away along Beachwalk Avenue near Kuhio, Wasabi Bistro is one of Waikiki's long-standing hidden gems. This cozy Japanese restaurant has been around for years -- and it's easy to see why locals and visitors alike keep coming back. The entrance is down a narrow walkway surrounded by tropical greenery, leading to a warm and intimate dining space. We started with an assortment of pickled vegetables, light and flavorful, then enjoyed the hamachi carpaccio -- buttery yellowtail with a hint of yuzu and jalapeño. The crispy gyoza were perfectly fried, the vegetable tempura was light and delicate, and the rainbow roll was fresh and beautifully presented. The highlight was the baked papaya with seafood -- creamy, savory, and full of flavor -- followed by the grilled saba, crisp on the outside and tender inside. Service was friendly and attentive, and the dishes came out at a nice, relaxed pace. Local tip: Park at Hawaii Bank -- they validate your parking at the restaurant, so it's free and convenient. (5/5) Favorites: Hamachi Carpaccio, Baked Papaya, Grilled Saba Perfect for: Date nights, small groups, or anyone craving authentic Japanese food tucked away from the Waikiki crowds.

Yelp
Very good food. We tried several items. 1 was salty. We love the baked seafood papaya best. The a must try twice. This is inside a hotel so it's hidden but you'll see their sign outside if you are paying attention. Door is a curtain so AC don't get cold well. I would definitely go back. Plenty of servers for a small restaurant and they are helping each other out. I love that.

Yelp
Ambiance is nice, intimate setting in a motel courtyard surrounding the pool. Service was pleasant and helpful. Food was mixed... very expensive for single pieces of fish. Very pricey for special, which should have been made with real crab, not imitation crab. I also selected the butter fish, was good but slightly over cooked. All the fish I ordered was good, just much smaller quantity than average for the prices.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Kyosei yaki butter fish was really good. Sashimi was in good quality. It was nice place inside of motel. Service was ok.

Yelp
I think my favorite month has to be my birthday month--such a good excuse to go out and have fun with my friends! My best friend took me to Wasabi Bistro to celebrate, and honestly, it was a bit tricky to find at first. It's tucked away inside a hotel, kind of hidden in the cut. First impression? Lots of tourists. Definitely has that out-of-town crowd vibe. As for the food... ehh. It was okay. Honestly, they should call it Lemon Bistro--they put lemon on almost every dish. Luckily, I love lemons, so I wasn't mad about it. What sets them apart from other sushi spots are their signature items. We tried the papaya seafood motoyaki, which was pretty unique. Think of it like a dynamite sushi topping, but served on a halved papaya instead. It had a nice balance of sweetness and savoriness--definitely a fun and different dish. Service was okay, food was okay--nothing mind-blowing but not bad either. The real downside is the parking. Unless you're a hotel guest, you'll have to look for street parking, which isn't always easy. There is a public lot right across the street, but be prepared--it costs an arm and a leg.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! As a local, going to Waikiki is more of a have to than a want to. Received a last minute call from out of town friends that they were on island and staying in Waikiki asking if we wanted to join them for dinner and decided to take them up on the invite. Located in The Breakers on Beachwalk Ave. a little, unassuming hotel/motel. Walked in and felt like I was transported into a 1960's Elvis Presley movie with an open air front desk, a swimming pool with lounge chairs in the center of a 2 story walk up hotel, walking to the restaurant you pass the pool and rooms that you can see right into with sliding glass doors and wooden jalousies. Highly recommend making reservations, we got there soon after they opened at 5 pm but by the time we were leaving there was a congregation of people waiting for a table. It's a small place and I don't think there was AC, but it was a cool enough evening that it wasn't needed. The services was attentive and food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Everything we tried was delicious! The spicy ahi crispy rice was so fresh, soft shell crab was so good, the grilled squid was delectable, not overly chewy and their specialty Papaya Seafood Motoyaki was to die for, never ate anything like it! For dessert had the Lady M crepe cake with green tea ice cream. They have a nice Sake selection, my husband ordered a flight so he could try different ones. A wonderful experience, definitely want to go back! Convenient parking across the street in the Bank of Hawaii building.

Yelp
food - one of my favorite sushi spots on island, and one of the only places i'd go to waikiki for as a local! fresh quality sushi and other really good hot food options as well. service - quick and easy, and friendly staff! ambiance - tucked away in the back of a small hotel, i really like the more intimate setting here. this place reminds me of japan!

Yelp
Stopped here for dinner on our first night in Waikiki. What a great find! A little hole in the wall but place is charming, service was very attentive, food was excellent and sushi and sashimi was extremely fresh! We will definitely be back again! The baked seafood in half papaya was a huge hit!

Yelp
We had an amazing Japanese dinner at Wasabi Bistro in Waikiki. Hawaiian is known for its seafood and sushi, yet I was still impressed by the food at Wasabi Bistro. The restaurant is located poolside at the Breakers Hotel. It definitely feels Japanese with its minimalist decor, open sushi bar, and cloth entry way. First thing to note is that they advertise Hokkaido rice in all their dishes. I'm not an expert on the differences between different grades of rice, but I did like the soft textures. Both the sushi and hot entrees were excellent. Nigiri combo had the preloaded wasabi under the fish, and included some premium items such as Hokkaido Scallop and Bluefin. Fish was fresh and melt-in-your mouth. For the hot entrees, salmon came in a huge, juicy filet that two can share. The Teriyaki Chicken was similarly huge and came with Japanese Yams and cooked veggies. Moist, juicy meat with just the right amount of sauce. Definitely safe room for dessert! Mochi ice cream with Japanese Cheesecake is a perfect way to clean the palate and end the meal on a sweet note.

Yelp
The food is average. The service is mediocre, at best. It's got an ambiance that only a tourist could like. I left a sufficient tip for the waitress, based generously on her service. Because it wasn't 20%, she tried to chase me down to get more tip. She didn't even ask WHY she didn't get 20%. I do not bow to entitled behavior. I'm not going back.
google avatar

Tracy V.

Yelp
Service is excellent. All dishes from the sushi bar (sushi and rolls) and kitchen (tempura) were superb. We were the only ones at the sushi bar and were able to chat with the chef. I had sake, which they have a great selection of and my husband had wine. We will return!
google avatar

Ava I.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! I wasn't sure what to expect considering it being so close to a hotel, but they have great quality authentic Japanese cuisine here, and decently priced at that. Their misoyaki butterfish might just happen to be my new favorite. Staff is professional and attentive, atmosphere is good. The nigiri is very fresh. There is something for everyone when it comes to the menu
google avatar

Angela W.

Yelp
A big pleasant welcome from the manager(?) when we checked in. Quiet ambience. We ordered a sushi platter and a sashimi platter to share. Both tasted fresh and presented elegantly- sushi to rice ratio perfect! Then we ordered a soft shell crab roll + a signature crab cakes hot dish to share. Simply prepared and without all the gluey syrupy sauce on top, like how most Korean restaurants serve them gigantic rolls! Prices are not cheap...we enjoyed our time there eating and being served by an unassuming lady who knows when to come and pick up dishes and refill your tea at the right time.
google avatar

Kimberly V.

Yelp
Definitely coming back! The cutest little spot with free validated parking!!! WHAT??? The entire staff was so friendly. Had the Wasabi #1, that secret sauce was amazing! Perfect portion to share and for $16 it's the best deal on the menu. Chikuwa tempura was really good. It's fishcake that's tempura fried. It's tender and tasty. The whole squid is something that if it's on a menu I'm ordering it. It was minced ginger and was prepared perfectly grilled. We had a few pieces of OTORO nigiri and salmon nigiri and the fish was so fresh and buttery. Last but not least but I didn't take a picture of it was the hamachi Kama. I actually ate it the next morning, cold right from the fridge and it was still so moist. I can imagine how good it would have been hot and fresh. If it's available I would recommend ordering. This may be my favorite spot!

Yelp
This is my favorite little hidden gem in Waikīkī. Inside an unassuming little Japanese hotel, there is a magical little sushi bar. This will probably be my fourth time there, and it has never disappointed. The ankimo on special was gorgeous, the soft shell crab delicious dipped in ponzu, every bite of the sashimi gorgeous and creamy/well balanced, the ikura fresh with that satisfying pop. We didn't have the cheesecake last night, but already have another reservation lined up to have it again. Japanese cheesecake really is wonderful there. Sake selection is wonderful as well, as is the service. The ambience is very cozy, clean, and uniquely Japanese with that Hawaiian heart. This will always be a favorite for me. Total gem.

Jim H.

Yelp
The food and vibes were amazing. Very personal place, we sat at the bar. The sushi chefs were very helpful with recommendations and our server was great as well. Definitely coming back.
google avatar

Nora I.

Yelp
Delicious food. Great service. We ordered only sashimi and it was amazing. Had to get round 2. Small cute place inside of the small Japanese style hotel.

Nancy T.

Yelp
Great quality fresh fish ! Authentic chefs! Wonderful Servers and decent prices ! You cant go wrong !
google avatar

Diane B.

Yelp
Ambience good- its warm inside so if you need cool AC, it's not for you. We ordered sashimi, rolls, tsukemono, signature crab/avocado, cheese ball dish, misoyaki butter fish, chicken teriyaki, shrimp and vegetable tempura, edomame, wasabi octopus, and the salad/miso soup/rice sides. I lived in Japan 30 years and I can tell you- the food here is what we call "SHOKUDO" level. Very basic. How sad the sashimi was warm and sliced thinly, the rolls were so skinny with hardly any yellowtail or fatty tuna in them, the miso yaki butter fish was dry, the tempura was heavy and greasy, but we remember this place as being better. It was really meh. Honestly if you want a much better experience I suggest BOZU at McCully. Don't waste your time or money at Wasabi Bistro when you can eat much better food at BOZU.

Yelp
I went to Wasabi Bistro on my one month trip about 29 times for dinner. The food is a great example of Japan and was just mind blowing, after I had a bite I said,"I will never stop eating this!" The service is spot on great! Our server was Yun and he was so friendly and kind to us! He was very polite and helpful too! Yun is a great server at Wasabi Bistro!! The ambiance is amazing, dark, not too dark room, music playing, and a view of the chefs! I recommend the Crispy rice the most. Every time we come we get 3 orders!! I also recommend the hamachi, that's my go to meal! But make sure to get Miso soups and edamame, I can't stop eating them! And don't forget to mochi, their mochi is so delicious! Wasabi Bistro is my go to when I'm in Hawaii!!
google avatar

Trewen W.

Yelp
My goodness. Wasabi Bistro was fantastic. We had a reservation to come in, and i recommend doing so! The ambiance inside was so nice, soothing, and welcoming. Staff was friendly and if you can, i'd recommend sitting at the sushi bar. You can watch the sushi chef work his magic! Definitely piqued our taste buds too. Their sashimi combinations were very reasonably price, and all the fish were super tender, fresh and just delicious. What surprised me was their squid sashimi, usually it's crunchier and is more tough to chew, but the one wasabi bistro was serving was super tender, slight crunch, and melt in your mouth! Absolutely decadent. Their tuna and salmon sashimi were also mouth watering! Another star was the crispy rice with spicy tuna! Even if you can't eat spicy food, it's not too spicy, amazing small bites filled with flavor! Absolutely loved this place, next time we come to hawaii, we're definitely coming back!

Yelp
Super cute little restaurant tucked away next to the pool of a hotel. It's the literal definition of a hidden gem though, and we were able to snag a reservation on christmas day (stopped by around 5:30pm and got a reservation for 8:30pm). I would still recommend making a reservation a few days in advance or even earlier. Service was friendly. Now onto the food - everything we ordered was delicious and prepared meticulously. We ordered two of the specials - the papaya dish and the crab avocado dish. Both were so good, my only regret is not getting the scallop special. Even the chicken teriyaki was special, there was a thin layer of batter coating it for added texture. The sushi was also very fresh. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a one of a kind Japanese culinary experience.

Ryan D.

Yelp
The food is mediocre and the portions are very small. The waiter was friendly and the restaurant is very clean. I expected more from this restaurant but I was disappointed at the tiny sushi/sashimi portions. I have yet to find a good sushi restaurant in Honolulu. I have ate at 10-15 different sushi restaurants over the years in Waikiki and have been so so so disappointed. If you compared them to the sushi restaurants in the Bay Area.
google avatar

Janee O.

Yelp
This gem is located in The Breakers hotel past the pool in the back. It's small, but the atmosphere is perfect for a meaningful dinner with a loved one or friends. I've come here twice now, once in March to celebrate my wedding anniversary and this past Sunday with a group of friends from out of town. The restaurant was able to accommodate our party of ten. As I said the restaurant is small, both times I've been I never noticed any background music, which was great because we were able to have a conversation and a few of our friends are hard of hearing. Our server was very attentive and patient with our group. He kept us informed of any kitchen delays and was able to answer any questions we had for him. Overall, we enjoyed the ambiance and our meal, which we did pupu style ordering two of everything to share. We will definitely be back to this location!
google avatar

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
I came to this spot with my family over 5 years ago and remember how delicious the food was and how fresh the fish was! I went back with my partner a few days ago during our Hawaii vacation, and I'm happy to share that the food quality, service, and ambience are just as impeccable as I remember! Get the sashimi here and one of the signatures -- we get the papaya dish and loved it!
google avatar

Yelp
This place was kind of a surprise. First it was kind of a surprise when we walked up the street to find it and it seemed to be in the back of a low-to-medium end motel complex. (But considering the location in Waikiki it was probably a decent/small hotel that just has a casual vibe... dunno... first time to Waikiki). Second surprise was that this really nice sushi bar/restaurant was buried back in there near the motel pool. Third surprise was just how nicely curated and presented everything was. The chefs behind the bar were just what you wanted... personable but not too chatty and super attentive to what you needed. The server on our side of the bar (Yun) was super friendly and gave us suggestions for stuff on and off the menu. Great sake selection.
google avatar

Gary C.

Yelp
A nice little cozy spot for outstanding sushi. TJ the host/ server was great and made my wife and I feel comfortable. The food a top quality. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Lorean S.

Yelp
Being on site of a mediocre hotel, I was a little skeptical. But as I walked in, I noticed it was quite nice with beautiful jazz music playing. The service was impeccable... it's a fairly small restaurant, but there were four food servers and two sushi chefs standing by on the outside, not even including the inside kitchen staff. The food is delicious as well. Especially the soft shell crab. They were out of one of the Japanese beers listed on the menu, but they had an alternate suggestion, which was equally good. I would definitely go back to visit when I'm next in town.
google avatar

Lora C.

Yelp
Stubble upon this place and it's a nice hidden place in waikiki. It's cozy and had friendly staff. Food was delicious! We shared the sashimi, butterfish, tofu, this scallop rice fish. All was yummy. Fish was fresh and who doesn't love butterfish??? If you don't, we can't friends. It's perfect place for intimate dinner, first date, somewhere to hide from your kids. If you asked me for directions, I don't know how to explain cause I followed the leader LOL.

King P.

Yelp
a bit hidden but thats what makes it great. sushi was good and fresh. Service was good as well and it had a very japanese vibe to it. One of our must eat at places whenever in Oahu.
google avatar

Gregg L.

Yelp
Tucked away in an inconspicuous hotel off of a quiet side street in Waikiki, this place is a nice & quiet place for great and interesting Japanese food. The place is not fancy but in its own way, incredibly charming. The food is great and creative. Everything we ordered tasted great. See pics for what we ordered. The crispy rice & spicy tuna dish was the. most unique. The contrast of the rice cracker and the cold sashimi mixture was wonderful. The Ika Geso Karaage was fried perfectly...not greasy, nicely crisp and seasoned perfectly. And the sashimi was very fresh!! Come and hang out in this relaxing hole in the wall!
google avatar

Erica H.

Yelp
Made a last-minute reservation here, and it was really good. Well versed server, he even spoke Japanese, may have been the manager or owner. We ordered several rolls to share, sashimi, and a couple of the recommendations. Small and cozy inside with an ability to see the chef from almost anywhere. Very fresh and wonderful seasonings. The tempura was so fluffy! Beer, wine, sochu, sake The location is a walk past a pool at maybe a hotel, sharing an entry with The Breakers on Beachwalk in Waikiki. Meter parking on the street or a couple of lot options for parking. Very accommodating, friendly, helpful, AND great food.
google avatar

Neill E.

Yelp
This is a little teeny tiny gem. We had an early dinner here and sat at the sushi bar. We live in Los Angeles and appreciate good Sushi. The location is in a little teeny nook inside the Breakers hotel. Thomas helped us and suggested some of his favorites on the menu which were all outstanding.Kim and Ono were the two sushi chefs everything was extremely high-quality and very tasty and presented beautifully. Great date night for a couple for party of four.
google avatar

Marvin L.

Yelp
We made reservations a week in advance at 5pm. It was very hot that day and there was no built-in AC and only small AC fans. We were immediately greeted as we were one of the first ones there. They offered popular menu options to us and took their time to explain each of the daily menu dishes. The restaurant itself was very cozy and small, with a bar to see the 2 sushi chefs. They have daily menu options that change each day based on the chef's choice and we decided to order the Fried Shrimp Karaage. I thought it was delicious but my partner said that it needed some salt. We also ordered the soft shell crab roll (which was my favorite, the sushi regular, the Wasabi No.1 Special, and the bluefin toro cut roll. Each of the dishes were as fresh as they can be and overall delicious. The sushi here is not cheap but not super expensive and our bill was around $130 for the 5 dishes for 2 people. I would recommend coming here if you are willing to splurge a little extra 4.5/5

Yelp
So far the best and freshest sushi that we've had. Tucked away in a kinda strange place. By a pool, which looked to be at a small hotel or apartment building? Either way, the food and service was top notch. Very attentive server. Tried the sushi and sashimi. Hand rolls and sake flight. Highly recommend for a great date nite and small intimate dinner. 10/10. Will be dining here again when in Waikīkī area.

Yelp
Wasabi Bistro is a cute and quaint restaurant in a little courtyard. It's small and intimate, so definitely great for date night. FOOD: We ordered the "sushi regular," which was basic sushi - it did the job but wasn't special. We also got the Wasabi Bistro No. 1 and Papaya Seafood Motoyaki, which both were the two reasons why we came here in the first place. Both were flavorful. The Wasabi Bistro #1 had a lot of crab meat and the papaya was both savory and sweet with cheese and vegetables in a half papaya. Highly recommend either dishes. We ended our dinner with a passion fruit mochi ice cream, which was INCREDIBLE. It was flavorful and the mochi texture was so chewy. I'd come back to try their other mochi flavors. SERVICE: We were actually 30 mins early to our reservation, but they still seated us. Great service, food came out fast. Our servers were also great with providing recommendations.

Yelp
Went here for dinner. The black cod is amazing! Every single bite/flake has so much flavor. Eat it slowly so you can enjoy it longer. We also liked the hamachi wasabi carpaccio, the crispy rice and spicy tuna, the wasabi special no 1, and the tuna tataki. Skip the eggplant.
google avatar

Regina K.

Yelp
Hamachi Wasabi Carpaccio ($21): this was my favorite - the fish & sauce were so delish! Sashimi Regular ($28): 5 kinds of sashimi, 2 pieces each. They also have a Deluxe size ($68) which consists of 8 kinds, 2 pieces each. The salmon was my fave - so buttery and soft! Wasabi No. 1 Special ($14): one of their signature dishes that consists of crab meat, avocado, and white fish baked with their secret sauce. I liked how there was a lot of crab meat inside. Baked Scallop Special ($16): another signature dish made with scallops and mushroom over rice - had an interesting creamy sauce.

Yelp
Fabulous service and delicious, fresh, local fish. Absolutely wonderful meal. Small and intimate setting and very reasonable pricing.
google avatar

Diana S.

Yelp
Location: Breakers Hotel near the pool Ambiance: Beach casual. Fairly small so make a reservation if you want to come here. Food: Everything was pretty good but not high end amazing. I love sashimi and it was all fresh but not melt in your mouth savory. My favorite thing here was the avocado tempura- it was SO good!! Service: Efficient and friendly, yet not overbearing. Overall, if you're looking for affordable casual sushi in Waikiki then definitely try this place out.
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
Hole in the wall local spot at the edge of the Rodeo Drive meets the beach Waikiki strip that I hate - tucked away in the back of a little hotel. I've been here 2-3 times and I am impressed each time. The black cod was fabulous, the miso soup excellent, the salad with house dressing tasty, featuring the freshest greens. Service on point. Make a reservation or come early, think 1700-1800 (5-6pm).
google avatar

Emiko T.

Yelp
You need a reservation! We tried to come eat here on the first night and they had zero reservations so we made one for the next day. The food is amazing to say the least. I had an appetizer and it was perfection! The salmon was very flavorful and I added the miso soup, rice and salad (set). It is on the pricier side but you pay for quality and this place is a 5 star! My companion had raw cuts of fish and said it was the best she has had! The restaurant is small only about 14 tables and 4 bar chairs, but defiantly a must!!!

Luka D.

Yelp
If I could give ten stars I would. As a passionate sushi lover who's been to hundreds of sushi restaurants across the United States this is DEFINITELY #1 Secluded in a little place by a hotel once you walk in you enter an amazing atmosphere. The staff is extremely attentive and welcoming. You can see the chefs working behind the counter who seem happy to be there and passionate to putting out the best food possible. The appetizers were packed with tons of flavor and delightful in every single way while being super affordable. We were snacking on them throughout the whole entire meal. They have a wide variety of Sakes to choose from and even do a sake sample flight. The sushi itself is extremely authentic and you can see and taste the quality and freshness of each fish. The bluefin tuna was some of the best I've ever had and every other fish was great as well. This spot is truly a hidden gem and I'm extremely grateful for all their staff as this is an experience I would recommend to absolutely any sushi connoisseur.

Lorena C.

Yelp
This place is quaint and tucked away. Reminded me of a sushi place in Japan. Sat up at the bar and the chefs were phenomenal very attentive and our server was awesome as well! The food was absolutely amazing some of the best sushi I've ever had, very fresh, and authentic. I would definitely recommend this place to any sushi lovers!

Yelp
Wasabi bistro is a hidden gem! It's a quaint little restaurant tucked away in a small hotel in waikiki. This is one of my families go to spots for amazing sushi and japanese food. My favorites were the wasabi taco(if you love fresh wasabi, get this!), hamachi carpaccio, butterfish, and the softshell crab appetizer, and of course, all the sushi!! The food is extremely fresh and everything is so unique and tasty! There is also a huge sake selection. It's definitely pricey but the food is worth it for the quality of good sushi!

Yelp
Excellent restaurant with mouth-watering food and friendly service! They ship their fish straight from Japan, and everything was very high quality. The ambiance was cozy yet modern, since it's inside a small Japanese inspired home. Very unique and intimate. We started with the hamachi carpaccio, which was so good - silky and luxurious slices of fish. The sashimi regular was a great way to try their delectable sashimi. The rolls have a good rice-to-fish ratio. My favorite was the hand roll, but everything was absolutely delicious. I enjoyed my dinner here and highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
My 13 year old loved this place so much (as did our whole family) that he felt inspired to write a review, which I leave here unedited: "My family and I are currently visiting Honolulu from southern California and stumbled across a small --tucked away-- Japanese restaurant. Inside, the attention to detail was truly amazing. By the time I stepped inside the restaurant, my mouth was watering almost at the precision, plating and the ambiance. We were seated by a very kind and professional seeming waiter. The sashimi we ordered was arguably the best I've ever had. I tried a single peace of oh-toro that melted in my mouth and ultimately blew my mind (coming from someone who's caught bluefin a tuna and tried it fresh.) We then proceeded to try a seared and thinly sliced beef tataki special that had my eyes tearing up because of the flavor. the desert menu was also off the charts. we tried the mochi ice cream which was also unsurprisingly awesome as well. as we left the chefs and waiters made time to say goodbye to us, unlike most restaurants you'll see nowadays. I left feeling inspired and overall a more colorful person, like you should leave anywhere."

Yelp
Located in the heart of Waikiki and tucked away inside a dimly lit courtyard of The Breakers Hotel. The restaurant is slightly larger than your average sushi place. Dimly lit inside makes for a nice meal. The menu ranges from sushi to cooked items. The nigiri was good. So good that I came for a second time. Large fatty pieces. Unfortunately they order is only 1 piece. As for the cooked food, their Wasabi No.1 Special (Crab Meat and Avocado with White Fish, Baked with Secret Sauce) was amazing and different. The Chicken Teriyaki was about the worst I've tried. Extremely gross. The service in the first trip was amazing, the second not so much. The Japanese waitress was less than accommodating and made an issue about me wanting to cancel an order that I had placed just seconds before. Extremely slow and inattentive.

Yelp
We came up on this place while taking a side street from the Outrigger Hotel. We were walking past a small older hotel and noticed Wasabi's in back. The menu - considering it being Waikiki - did not seem very pricey and had a variety of items on the menu. Being that it had 4 1/2 star rating we thought we would check it out that evening. First of all you should have reservations - place is very small and limited seating. We came right as it opened and were seated promptly. From the very beginning their service was impressive. They have several different combinations of food Including sushi and sashimi. I did not take a picture of the salad we ordered but it was delicious with a light vinaigrette. The food and definitely the service made it very easy to give this place five stars. We will be back again and again.
