Washington Hall has been our home since 2010, and it’s been the foundation we needed. I love this place.

"DEFY" I'd love to see a different show here, decent sound, fun atmosphere.... When it comes to Indy Wrasslin, it's one of the better spots in Seattle. DEFY has good shows and the crowd is pretty mixed diverse and loyal The food is to overpriced (closer to a HS or College game then NFL or most venu prices)and some times a Lil lack luster, but for the kitchenette they use its awesome and they keep it rotating with different options, and most vendors sell out vs selling stale. Besides there's plenty of good food nearby you can walk to or snag a drink before the show. Parking is a bih but not impossible, and again, lots to walk around and do if you gotta hike a block or 2 Wheelchair access is unknown. There's a ramp out front so, mybe there's an elevator I haven't seen but the steps inside are pretty rough, not to mention once they add the crowd some of the navigation could be difficult... but that being said, dont let that keep you At least at a DEFY show, somebody will give you a lift up...

Yelp
We went to a comedy show here. A nice, intimate venue. A good size for the audience. We would come here again.

Yelp
This is a review for the Cypher Cafe inside the Washington Hall. This spot is not only cozy, but a welcoming atmosphere. Today, I was delighted with a delicious Americano that was satisfying and made with care. If you love coffee this is the place for you.

Yelp
Love coming here for wrestling. The venue is the perfect size. The crowd is always great. I've run into break dancing & beat showcases here as well. Always pleasantly surprised at what I run into here.

Yelp
From the outside, Washington Hall doesn't look like much. In fact, you might find yourself circling the block a few times, asking, "Is this really the venue?" And once you walk inside, it's still a little rundown. Because even though Washington Hall has this amazing history (Billie Holiday and Jimi Hendrix played here, among others), it hasn't exactly been kept up the way it should. Thank goodness Historic Seattle took over the building and is in the process of returning it to its former glory. Believe it or not, Washington Hall was built in 1908 for the Danish Brotherhood in America. Since that time, it's been a performing arts center, dance hall, and community gathering place. And I think this really cool history is the reason why the vibe here is just so fantastic. It's warm and intimate and exactly the perfect place to see your favorite band. I saw Ben Gibbard play an acoustic set here and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. So check out their events calendar and see what's happening. You won't regret it!

Yelp
Just visited the Cypher Cafe inside of Washington Hall. Aiside from this being my favorite place to get coffee, it's a great place to connect to wifi and use my laptop. Ever since they started serving bagel sandwiches I find myself coming back more and more. Definitely worth trying. Especially if you are all for supporting local businesses!

Yelp
Really enjoyed my time at Washington Hall! I came here over the weekend to dance during the Seattle Lindy Exchange, which brings swing dancers and live music together over one fabulous weekend. Recently reopening from a big renovation, the space was beautiful! The stage in the main hall was awesome - surrounded by an outline of bright light bulbs, it really gave it a vintage feel. The sound was great, and the floor was perfect for dancing. There is an upper balcony with benches to sit and relax as well. Obviously when it comes to dancing in Seattle, the main downside in these amazing historic buildings is the lack of air conditioning... while it was extremely hot, the fact that the windows opened made it a little more comfortable. There were clean bathrooms right by the hall, as well as two cold water fountains that helped. The neighborhood is a little sketchy, but it is still well-lit with streetlights. There is a parking lot connected to the building, as well as tons of street parking! Definitely a plus! Can't wait to come back and enjoy more events here!

Yelp
3.5 stars -- mostly because I love old buildings and this old gal is full of some charm! I recently attended for a musical double feature -- and the "theater" upstairs was just too cute. Fun old architecture. An upstairs balcony (where the live band and a/v equipment was housed for the night). Room for a good medium sized crowd, excellent acoustics, and hey! Really nice bathrooms (surprisingly so, considering the age of this place). Washington hall is a little rough around the edges -- more permanent/comfortable seating options would really make this place stellar.

Yelp
Rounding up... I've been coming here for about a billion years, well, not that long, but I've seen shows back in the day and more recently a few plays. I always forget it's here until it's 'revived' every few years and I'm happy to get to visit again. The acoustics are odd but work fine, the space is vacant and reminds me of a great place for a punk show. You could spit on the floor here, and not worry too much, but I'd also love to attend an upscale fundraiser cocktail party here too. It's ready for action of all kinds, so naturally, I'm drawn to it.

Yelp
I came here about two months ago for a double-feature show, and overall, the experience was fun but flawed. The venue, however, was quite nice if showing its age a little. There's easy parking in the area and the bathroom was surprisingly nice, clean, and well-stocked. This is an event space, not a theater, which means that the chair options are limited to what's set up and therefore their comfort is not a high priority. The upstairs balcony is an ideal place to put the band, although for other events it would be fun to mix and mingle up there. I'm not sure whether the sound system was provided or brought in from outside, but the acoustics were pretty good. There's an area for vending concessions which is conveniently open to both the lobby and the event space, although you do need twice the staff to keep up with both portals. No one is going to mistake this place for the 5th Ave or the Paramount (and I am not a fan of the Paramount) but I would be perfectly happy coming back here for another show/event.

Yelp
Fantastic venue for art and music performances. The history of the builders and subsequent occupants is rich, and as with most historical buildings that have such a history, it's easy to romanticize the experience and imagine yourself transported back in time when the building was at its height of grandeur (you know - that feeling of yourself dressed in period appropriate attire and everything is in black and white imagining someone like Lincoln in the balcony). It is unfortunately in need of some updating and repairs, but when you attempt to modernize you run the risk of losing that classic feeling, so what's one to do but enjoy it for what it is - a beautiful space for the arts community to perform - and enjoy the show.

Yelp
I love the charm of this old facility. It's unfortunate that parts of it haven't been as well maintained as it could have. We saw a performance here and really enjoyed both the show and the atmosphere. To know that this place has housed some great artists and performances, gives you the nostalgic feel! Surprisingly the sound quality of the venue isn't as bad as you could imagine since the main performance area is basically a gymnasium.

Yelp
I love this place! It's currently undergoing some remodeling, and there's a neighborhood noise curfew around 10pm, but those are the only reasons I withhold a star. It's a great rental space. I've been there for events from several groups and always had a blast. It's a beautiful vintage building, with 2 ballrooms. Also there are some great balboa classes (swing dancing) on Monday nights. Best tip I can give? Bring fans if you're there in the summer. There's no AC, and it gets HOT.

Yelp
Went to a Halloween Party that was here. The party was kind of a dud, but the hall was pretty cool. The neighborhood is sketchy and the parking was a bit hard on a Saturday night, but overall I would return to an event at this place. They have a balcony and a nice high stage that would be great for a musical performance. Probably not great for a play, unless it was a one person show.

Yelp
Not only a great vintage venue for music and theater, swimming in history, the Hall offers a swath of local resources to the community for local groups, dance lessons, and events, but they are more than amenable to nonprofits, with cultural events and a kitchen for cooking meals for the homeless. Whichever society currently runs Washington Hall is deeply invested in Seattle and I'd support them with love and business however possible.

Yelp
So my boyfriend and I were looking at wedding venues, and after spending MONTHS on Yelp, Google, The Knot, and every other wedding venue guide I could find, I decided to go back to the drawing board. A lot of the places we saw were either too expensive, required things that we couldn't, or didn't want to, afford, or they just weren't us. Then, I found this place. My partner got his BA in theater tech, and I was a Fine and Performing Arts major in high school, and for as long as I can remember. First I applied the formula. I looked at their costs, restrictions, and other costs associated and put them all into my spreadsheet. It was already 700$ cheaper than any other venue we had liked. Next, I send the Manager an e-mail asking about her costs, to make sure that I hadn't missed anything, as well as to get a copy of their policies, procedures, etc etc. My partner called her and we got an appointment to do a walk-through a week later. A few things: It's an OLD building. Seriously old. 1908 old. It's a historical site, so there hasn't been a lot of remodeling in the last 100 years. It even has the original flooring, and probably, the original coat of paint. It has "character." Chips in the paint, worn and discolored floor, and more chunks taken out of the walls than I could count. It was perfect. We loved it. It was us. I was hoping for a modern, metal and glass scenario, but 5 minutes in this place, and between the smell and the scene, I was in love, and so was my partner. Presently, we're waiting on a quote, and a couple potential dates, and then we're going to move forward with this. The other thing I loved; the Manager was HONEST. She was blunt about policy changes, potential restrictions, and other timing things that might come from the remodel. She didn't pull any punches and she wasn't trying to sell us on it. I'm excited.

Yelp
What a really cool place to hold the First Run Comic show this past weekend. There was plenty of parking nearby, lots of rooms (3levels) and adequate bathrooms. The only thing I saw as a problem was accessibility for the handicapped, but maybe there was elevators adn we just didn't see itWe liked it so much that we'd consider renting ourselves for private events such as NYE, Halloween, etc.
