The Top Complaints About D.C. Dining in 2019 | Eater DC

"Newly opened to the general public, the House Members’ Dining Room blew a chance to garner some good press for the Capitol; the historic restaurant is just sad, and so much for transparency." - Gabe Hiatt

We stopped in here for the first time in several years and were really surprised and impressed by all of the work that has been done to expand the dining on the patio/terrace. I’m worried though that the incredible focus on increasing the number of tables may have come at the expense of service and quality of food. We had to wait quite awhile just to order drinks and it took longer than expected for our food to arrive. As for the food, my main complaint was with the fish and chips. It was really bad, more like a kids order of fish fingers (see the picture) and soggy as well. From a pub or tavern like this i expect a nice sized piece of fish with a crispy outside. A bit disappointing overall which is unfortunate because they have done as good job on the covered terrace.

This was my first time here I was out showing property to a great client who used to work at my office when she was in college, she graduated and she is ready to buy her first home. So proud of her She googled restaurant in the area and this one came up. So we went and we loved it I got home and told my husband we must have to go so he can try it. The place is beautiful the staff is very friendly and best of all the food was amazing….truly a great place with great food and ambiance

Incredible dining experience. First time here, so we started with Oysters, white bean dip & tuna tare tare. My wife had the salmon which was cooked to perfection. I ordered the pork chop, which was BANGIN. One of the best that I've ever had! My only wish list: A better bourbon and rye offering.

Before you go here, just keep a note that you will be spending a pretty penny. Not for no good reason though. All the food is top-notch, and presents good quality. But pricing is on the high end, dare I say on the excessive end, and portions are standard. Service there is amazing. I give 4 stars instead of 5 for the slightly exorbitant price tag. They have a happy hour for drinks and oysters, which I believe are a great deal - some of the best oysters I've tasted!

Just an awesome dining establishment. Rustic neat old in at the front part and a huge heated tent in the back. Food was expertly prepared and served and fair price for value. Kid friendly and adequate spacing between tables do your not hearing other diners conversations. Not a BYOB with wine servings a “measured pour.” Overall worth a visit!

Everything tasted FRESH! It is one of the best new American restaurants we have dined at. My French onion soup was covered by melted cheese. It was a little bit salty for me but I eat mostly not salted food, so. The lobster thermidor toast point was a surprise! The topping was creamy with lobster bites, and the toast was buttery and crispy. I loved the micro greens on top as well. For entrees, I got their Beef Tenderloin with Truffle mash and green beans. The beef tenderloin was perfectly cooked medium rare; the mash, with truffle flavor, so creamy and soft. The truffle scent goes to my brain while the mash goes down so smoothly. I was speechless. So good! My husband loved the Sole Meunière. The spinach was so fresh and sautéd perfectly, and the parsley risotto was creamy and warm, with lemon butter sauce at the bottom, the entire dish had so many layers of texture and flavor. The sole fish was also one of the best, most beautifully cooked piece we have ever had. Look at the golden color on the fish. For dessert, my husband had the Pot De Creme, chocolate mousse with raspberry sauce and fresh berries. The fruits were fresh and big and clean, even the mint leaf was delicious! I had the flourless chocolate cake. It was warm, and it was very good with the caramel ice cream. But once the ice cream was done, the rest of the cake was so dry. We pack it home and finished it with more caramel ice cream we have. Personally I would want 2 ice cream scoops for the big slice of cake they serve, but again, it’s me. And the cake tasted so chocolaty. We had a great time overall. BTW, they do have a parking lot!!!
