I booked a stay at the Washington Plaza Hotel based on the positive reviews I found online, but my experience was far from what I expected. At first glance, the lobby looked nice and gave me hope that the stay would be pleasant. Unfortunately, once I entered the room, it was clear how outdated everything was—the bathroom fixtures were old, the television looked decades behind, and the furniture felt worn and tired. It didn’t match the impression the hotel tries to give off in its marketing. Still, I left my belongings there for the day, only to return later that evening to find a roach crawling across the desk. I usually keep my bags elevated to avoid pests, but seeing one on the desk itself was unsettling and unacceptable.|When I reported the issue to the front desk, the response was dismissive. I was told they would simply change my room so they could “investigate” the pest problem, but there was no effort to make my stay better or to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation. Having stayed at hundreds of hotels, I know that reputable chains like Hilton or Marriott would have handled this differently, offering meaningful compensation for such a disturbing experience. After waiting ten minutes for the manager, she finally appeared and told me the only thing they could do was provide complimentary breakfast. Needless to say, I wasn’t eager to eat at the same establishment where I had just seen roaches. The lack of care for the guest experience was glaring, and it felt like the staff were more concerned about protecting themselves than addressing the problem.|To make matters worse, checkout was just as disappointing. When asked how my stay was, I mentioned the roach issue, only to receive a casual “oh wow” with no apology or concern. Later that day, I checked my receipt and discovered a $56 charge from the lounge—despite never purchasing anything during my stay. I had to call the hotel to have the charge removed, and if I hadn’t caught it, they would have wrongfully billed me on top of the room cost. Between the outdated facilities, the pest problem, the dismissive staff, and the fraudulent charge, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. If you do choose to stay here, make sure to double-check your receipts—but honestly, I would recommend avoiding this hotel altogether.
