I recently visited your establishment and was disappointed with the service I received. The bartender with glasses and dark hair seemed preoccupied with her friends at the bar and neglected to serve me in a timely manner. She also failed to inform me about specials or provide basic information about my order. When I attempted to speak with her, she abruptly told me I would need to take my phone call outside, which struck me as unusual given the bar was empty. I felt that simple explanations, such as happy hour pricing for the wings, would have been appreciated. Unfortunately, the overall experience left me feeling dissatisfied, and I chose not to leave a tip. I was given the wings, but the poor customer service overshadowed the experience. I will not be returning and hope that your establishment will consider improving its service standards. Especially when it comes to having customers/ friends taking up your employees time within business hours & operation.

I have been coming here for probably 15 years. It’s usually where I like to end the night after a night out, or even just after work when I close for a few beers. I’ve known Jeremy for about the same time, and he runs the place quite well. It’s great that they recognize regulars and those regulars become their friends. I will continue to frequent this bar, as it is the best karaoke bar! Ducky’s isn’t the same.

Google
Great bar overall! Went for the first time with some friends to end the school week with some karaoke. Our waiter (short blonde hair, I missed their name unfortunately) was incredibly polite and on top of service with us and every other table in their section. Got a skinny burger , which delivered exactly as promised, a small nonsense burger if you were looking for something bigger than a snack but smaller than a normal meal. Karaoke vibes were immaculate, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves overall, enough so it kept after going until we had to leave around 130.

Google
Went here the other night because we wanted some tapas and a drink and a place open late. This pub was so fun! We tried a few of their new items such as the red pepper dip and their original pizza. But honestly, we had such a great time because of the karaoke! We didn’t sing ourselves, but the DJ, the bar tender and general vibe was so fun, awesome music! We also liked playing the trivia app while we waited for food! We had a great time and highly recommend. Hopefully they can replace the covers on the booths, but it just indicates how much it’s frequented!

Google
Its a great crowd of people most nights, and Alot with great voices to be doing skaryoke. How ever the could really someone to come in and set the speakers up properly. Cuz its a menace to sing to the blaring in a small boxed in area. I enjoy singing with buskers more then inside to say the least.

Google
Paul was the man he played the system fair. It’s been going down hill since last time I was here before paul was released from karaoke duties. Different atmosphere system not fair now it’s what you pay not how you sing or line up. Bring back Paul 2026

Google
Chicken tenders and Badass 🍔 .Also Chicken tacos all dishes very good.. Food came hot. The pub became busy after a little later in the evening. Karaoke nights. The atmosphere....the booths run down and worn. Bathroom very clean.Service and hospitality excellent!!

The bartenders are beyond attentive. And they know my drink order as I walk in. Good times and good people. No Nickelback to be had.

Yelp
I can't wait for the next time I get to relax and enjoy a meal with my best friend Heather. I'm already looking forward to going back on a Tuesday for those delicious wings and dry ribs. Plus, I'm excited about the special on beers for five dollars! And I know we'll have to do a couple shots of tequila because it always makes the night feel incredible. But honestly, what will really make the day unforgettable is seeing Jillian, our fantastic server. She always exceeds expectations with her amazing service. I just know that with her around, it's going to be another great experience!

Yelp
Everything in the menu is $10 and you get good portions for some of the dishes. I ordered the Mac and Cheese Hamburger with a side of Onion Rings for an extra $2. The burger had a double paddy and it was quite good! LOVED the onion rings too. We had a large table and everyone was very satisfied with their food. During the time we were dining in, there was only 1 server who was super busy bar tending and taking care of the guest. Also, she was checking COVID vaccine cards. Therefore you do need to be patient since they are short staffed. However, she was excellent! It's a great pub with good food! I will definitely come back again!

Yelp
Terrible atmosphere, the waitress had zero customer service skills, didn't seem to care much about me or my experience I was having, was very unwelcoming as well. The Pico burger was really tasty but the El Nachos should be called El Crapos as they were the worse plain jane Nachos I had ever had, very little care went into making them, I could of gotten better at the local convenience store for a fraction of the price !!!! There beer menu is pretty generic as well for a pub of its size. I waste of 42.00 I can assure you, I wont be coming back... hopefully the place goes out of business and a decent pub fills its spot !!!!

Yelp
If you're a man, looking a for chill, lowkey spot to hangout - this is NOT where you want to go. This place smells musty and moldy the second you walk in. And the staff look cracked out. A longstanding establishment, this place needs serious work done to it. The floors look and smell to be from 1970. Id bet they're original for sure!! Originally nice, but now gross and unsanitary to even walk on. For sure if you rip up that floor, it is wet and covered with mold!!!! Calgary has A LOT of good, well ran restaurants. This is unfortunately not one of them. The food is garbage as well. Had the burger, the bun was dry and they use a frozen patty! Save your time and money!

Brenda E.

Yelp
Our waitress, Rachel, was so nice! She greeted us with a big smile and a hello and since we weren't sure if we wanted to sit on the patio or inside, she told us to sit where ever we liked and she would find us. And that she did, just minutes after we sat, with a menu in hand. She brought us water while we decided what we wanted, and then took our order promptly. Our food arrived quickly, and while not the best I ever had, it was quite acceptable - and the price - $10 per meal was really reasonable! She checked on us several times while we were eating and brought us our bill quickly when we asked for it. We would definitely go back again and try some of the other items on their large variety menu!

Yelp
Karoeke night is fun. It's cool they have some food special. However, I find the Karaoke DJ makes fun of people a little too much.

Yelp
A bit divey, which isn't everyone's thing, but I enjoy it. Blue collar, rough around the edges vibe. Weird characters will occasionally strike up conversation if you sit at the bar. Personally I find this entertaining. Your mileage may vary. The Watchman salvaged a night out with me and a friend by still serving food after other bars were closing on a weekday, for which they have my eternal gratitude. They do the standard pub fare well enough. They tend to play classic to late 90's rock at a reasonable volume that enables conversation, which I appreciate.

Yelp
Yikes. I had been the Watchmans a couple of times before but the last visit has definitely molded my opinion and its not a good one. Went there with a buddy for Monday Night Football game and was enjoying the drink specials until the bill came. We had two servers over the course of the night and had 4 pints a piece. The bill came and it had 9 pints instead of 8 on it honest enough mistake. When we brought it up to our server she went over to the manager. We overheard her conversation and it was filled with justification on how it wasn't a mistake and we had that extra beer. I am an honest man and we most certainly did not. It wasn't the cost (4 dollars) it was the principle of it. For the management team not to trust a new customer a strike the beer from the tab was absolutely ridiculous. Its a cost analysis, you strike a definite 4 dollar waitress error from our tab and you get more of my money. You don't and you have lost a customer for life. Great decision Watchmans I appreciate that you showed your true colours so early in our relationship.

Yelp
Love it!!! Great service and a $10 food menu! Great drink deals. Chelsey the manager is the best!!

Mike B.

Yelp
This place is absolute garbage. The food is gross and came out wrong, mentioned it and it wasn't fixed. The bartender was incrdibly rude and didn't pay attention to me while I sat at the bar, too busy on her phone or flirting with some guys she seemed to know. Very dirty glassware and I saw a mouse run accros the bar floor into the kitchen. That was enough for me to pay my bill and never had the desire to return. Hope this place gets shut down for health code.

Yelp
There is just something about a grimy exterior of a pub filled with young rock gods on their night off that fills me with the glee. I love the people at Watchman's, though I admit I have not visited often enough to define a "regular". Unlike Chad's experience, in mine the people inside have always been pretty friendly, relaxing during a game or after a show and willing to chat up new comers. The service has always been a little bit lacking, true... You get pretty good at flailing in their vicinity after a while. Overall, I think that The Watchman's is pretty serviceable, and is a much better place for a quiet, cheap pint and some conversation than many other bars in the vicinity. It is definitely convenient, and if I'm tempted to nip down to Tubby Dog after chilling out here, who can blame me?
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
All's clear for you to have a great time at Watchman's Pub on 17th. This dark cozy pub has a nice casual comfortable vibe to it - less "meat market", more "meet market" than other watering holes along the Red Mile. The service is friendly and casual, and the pub grub is a cut above what you might expect. Particularly on Thursday, when $9 will get you a healthy portion of crispy flaky beer battered fish and fries that over-runneth the plate. There's no skimping at Watchman's. Nor do they skimp on entertainment options, as they feature tons of flatscreen TVs, 2 Big Buck Hunter shooting games, and a Golden Tee video machine for you indoor sportsmen. Besides that they also have an unobtrusive bank of VLTs if you're feeling lucky. And lucky you'll be to find yourself at Watchman's particularly during summer when their spacious patio provides one with the perfect perch to people watch.

Yelp
If you had asked me a couple years ago I'd have told you this place is a dive and to be avoided but I have changed my tune. The actual restaurant could use a bit of a make over. Throw a few bucks into the atmosphere and update a few things and it would be much nicer. The new $7.95 menu is pretty amazing though. The food is really great now. There's tons of choices on the menu and they come out flavourful and wonderful! The staff is usually friendly but have their off days. The midnight specials on drinks are probably the best in the city so if you are looking for a cheap place to go it's a good call with $3.50 pints and we'll drinks after midnight. Daily drink specials are pretty good too!

Yelp
I will say that the drinks are reasonably priced. I never ate here, but judging from the menu it seems like the food is reasonably priced as well. But I just wouldn't hang out here at all. Kind of seems a bit divey and not in a fun way like Ducky's or something like that. One of my weaknesses is that sometimes I have trouble pinpointing the factual reasons for feeling icky about a place, person or thing. However, perhaps this next anecdote would be an example why I felt uncomfortable here. One of the patrons chose to wear gym shorts from the 1970s that accentuated the flatness of his buttocks and the whiteness of his skin (real snug and not in a Calvin Klein kind of way). And to make things more interesting he decided to further enhance his look with the shoes and socks with shorts look. Nice! Now I am far from a fashionista and a man's buttocks aren't objects I naturally gravitate towards (not that there is anything wrong with that), but it was little things like this that turned me off from Watchman's. Plus the beer selection is a bit limited and it took forever to find my waitress to pay my bill. It always humors me when it's such a chore to give a pub my money. I must be in the minority because it seems like a popular place, but I am not sure I would want to come here again. Maybe it was just this visit.

Yelp
This place feels like it's where other bars go to die. While some bars can be charmingly dive-y but have secret 1ups like amazing food, or a crazy bartender that yells a lot, but is secretly a teddy bear; I don't know what Watchman's has going for it, really. I used to work across the street and I think I ate at every place within walking distance *except* Watchman's. Last month, my suspicions of "ew, gross, sketch bar" were confirmed. I stayed longer than I wanted to, because my friends and I were trapped in a booth between drunk birthday revelers, and I guess none of us wanted to be the party ruiners that showed up late and left early. The waitress was efficient enough, and was apologetic when my drink unexpectedly came with a cherry in it (which I am deathly allergic to - asphyxiation). The menu had nothing vegan on it, except possibly the "Asian Vegetarian Spring Rolls" - which, yeah, wouldn't consider to order since there's nothing else "Asian" on the menu. TL;DR - This place doesn't feel welcoming, and the menu and limited drink options certainly aren't welcoming either.

Yelp
Good service (very nice staff, very involved/attentive manager), good prices. See bands, see games, still be able to talk and hear the people you came the bar with. There's no particular crowd that goes there it's just an unpretentious place you have fun and hang out in, it's been around for a long time and there's good reasons it has. Someone giving a 1 star review because it doesn't offer vegan food, and -god forbid- had 'drunk revelers' in there isn't fair. If you have such a strict diet you should probably check first, if you don't like drunk people celebrating a birthday you probably shouldn't be in a bar.

Yelp
Went here on a Friday night, had a pretty good time, the bartender really got us in the mood to party so we stayed for a couple more drinks before we went home. The staff seemed to have a little party going on as well. I had a steak sandwich with french fries and a cesar salad for $9 (really good) and my husband had the potato skins. He said they were kind of dry, too crispy, needed more cheese. The place could use an update, the bathrooms were horrible (poor lighting and tiles from 1970's) but they were clean. Overall, I would go back because the prices were good, the customers were fun (met some nice guy there)

Yelp
If you're looking for a place to have a good beer and a decent meal without breaking the bank, Watchman's is the place. It's a bar and doesn't promise to be anything else, but they just happen to have decent food and clean taps for a reasonable price. I have only been there during the day, when it is pretty dead, so I can speak to the nightlife, but Watchman's is a good place for lunch because you'll always find a seat. The staff are also quite friendly, and with the handful of regulars that frequent the bar, they can hold a conversation. For $11 I had a Guacamole Burger (Guac, Provolone Cheese, Bacon etc.) that was big, pretty tasty considering the Establishment and it came with two sides. The chili I got reminded me of Wendy's Chili- which is good, but by no means quality chili- and garlic potatoes which were good and covered in gravy. Then, with a couple of beer added to the tab, my total bill was $25 plus tip. Try to find a better/cheaper deal on 17th. There is obviously a lot of competition on 17th Ave, but Watchman's fills a void in bars toward the west end (Uptown I think they call it) of 17th Ave that lacks good places to have a drink. Don't expect a classy joint, but expect good food, good beer at a good price.

Yelp
I went to Watchman's on a Sunday night with a friend for some food and a couple drinks (Translation : At least 100oz of beer each). We ordered our usual 100oz beer tube with it's own tap and I ordered the chicken quesadillas to start. Yummy. They were crisp and tasty. For my main, I went with a Kansas City hot dog with fries. It's pilied high with ground beef and cheese. So big, in fact, that I had to use a knife and fork to eat it. Our server was pleasant and attentive, even with the workout of bringing multiple beer tubes to our table. This was another good visit to one of my favourite places on 17th.

Brent R.

Yelp
I really like this place. I went the other night to play some Golden Tee with a few friends and the machine was in great condition and we played a few rounds. Also all the food on the menu was less than $8 so we got three different appetizers and they were all good. The server was also very friendly and good at her job. Something that was delightful to see was a cigarette vending machine, a pleasant surprise. The only downside were some refugee looking people who came in and were speaking in some foreign language too loudly. Once we heard that we had to leave, but otherwise I would have been very happy to stay!

Garyn P.

Yelp
Chelsey the general manager is a total bombshell. Amazing service, and a great bubbly personality. 10/10 will recommend to my friends, had the best time on the patio. Food and drinks were great.

Katie K.

Yelp
I was there to play thevlts and one of thevlts eat my money and since they couldn't find it and it being stuck apparently they said there's nothing I could do I need another key for the mailbox inside it so I was up without money I strongly not recommend this place they were no help and were extremely rude and I felt stuck up on the way to

Yelp
Went to watchman's tonight because a friend wanted to try their suicide wings. Everything was ok until I received my food. I ordered a taco salad with just lettuce, beef and cheese, didn't even think about sauces but it doesn't normally come with one so I thought I was good. When I got my food there was sauce on my food and the cup of whatever they served with it was tipped and in the bowl. as the manager put my food down sauce went all over my food I asked nicely if it could be remade and the supposed manager said he had to check with the owner. Seriously if your a manager and there's a mistake with food you take it away and say right away sorry for that. Instead I got a rude answer of Ill check with the owner and aggression he didn't even take away the first taco salad. When he came back he was rude, aggressive and had a very bad attitude. At my store if a member of staff talks that way to a customer they get an automatic discipline. Then he came back and said I didn't ask the server for no sauce and made a big deal about that, he went and grabbed the remade food which I didn't want at that point because he had completely ruined my appetite with his attitude. Then proceeded to kick me, my boyfriend and my 3 friends out and 3 of us were drinking so if the manger had handled the situation better with no attitude and aggression we might have stayed longer and had more drinks making watchman's more money. As a manager you need to show better customer service to customers and not call them jerks when you make a mistake just own up to it say sorry and lets move on. I will never go back and will be filing a complaint with the owner because that manager should be fired for treating customers the way he does.

Miryam P.

Yelp
This place was ok until the server decided to charge for extra beers I didn't have and then manager/bartender would make me pay for it, I know it's only $4.50 a beer and I'm more than happy to pay for it when I drink it! But is not my fault server gets shut wrong and brings me a bill with an extra beer I did not have, I will not recommend this place to anyone, it is awful!!

Yelp
Watchman's is great for Nacho's and Balloon's of beer. It feel's like a local neighbourhood pub but right on 17th. Every time i have gone its been the right atmospher for great convorsation and a great time. Some waitresses dont seem like the happiest campers but the bartenders seem decent and all the food is top notch. a new favorite for sure.

Victoria S.

Yelp
I went to watchman's last night for a friends birthday party, right from the moment our waitress asked for our ID's she was rude, I cracked a joke about getting carded she told me not to complain because she could get a big fine, I asked her what imported beer they had she told me what was on the menu, when I pointed out that the imported bottled beer wasn't listed she said "I don't know. The usual." She treated us all like we had already walked out without paying when she asked us for credit cards to run tabs, when I went to take my friends receipt for her because she wasn't paying attention she snatched it out of my hand. When it came to getting our credit cards back we had to track her down and getting my tab took me 4 attempts. So when the bill came to $35 and I had $37 cash on me, I decided her service was not worth my taking out more money and paying $2.75 to give her a better tip. Maybe next time she would change her attitude. When I stood up to leave she walked up to me and told me it was customary to tip at least 10% in her establishment. When I told her it was the service she told me we had great service and that I should leave the bar before she had her bouncer come kick me out. I asked her to get her manager she left and came back and told me her manager gave her full permission to tell me to leave and never come back. In shock I just left the bar. I decided to phone, assuming she didn't actually speak to her manager I was told the manager had left for the night so I asked to speak to the person in charge, who told me that she would take my name and number so I wouldn't call again at an inconvienient time and maybe I shouldn't come back, because Amy is one of their best servers. I'd hate to see their worst. I did leave my name and number for the manager - I have yet to recieve a call back. When did it become okay to ban someone who had one beer and was perfectly sober from a bar for thinking the service was bad? Worst pub ever.

Alex A.

Yelp
I had wings on wings night. wrong price on their website btw. I ordered hot wings and they were not hot at all so I asked for some hot sauce. I was charged $2 each for a tiny serving of Frank's sauce! service is terrible. a rough looking waitress couldn't care less that their website is outdated. no apology nothing. will never return to this dump
google avatar

Bridget E.

Yelp
I ended up here because I asked for my friend to take me to their favorite dive bar. Well, they delivered, but Watchman's didn't quite have the you'd-never-expect-it-to-be-good-but-it-so-is! charm I was hoping for. I browsed the menu but only ended up having beers, so I can't comment on the food. Not sure if I'll be back to give this place a fair assessment, because it doesn't really have anything that makes me think I need to try it. With so many options on 17th, Watchman's isn't high enough on the list for me to drop in again.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Super rude waitress. Over 20 minutes for a can of beer. We ordered beef tacos and brought fish, then wouldn't bring the correct tacos unless we ordered them. Manager was a jerk as well. Way to alienate patrons.

A D.

Yelp
Went there on Friday, Dec 22, 2018. Ordered a double tequila paralyzer and a kokanee draft. Waitress took 10 mins to even come and ask for our drink order! When she returned, the kokanee was dark, and the paralyzer did not have any milk?! She indicated they were not a cocktails bar...I then ordered a MGD and asked if the kokanee was a kokanee gold, which it was, and what was not indicated! It was not busy, there were people singing karaoke, a line up of about 20 people, to my surprise, the host was singing!? Which should not happen when there are actual customers there to sing! Place sucks! I only say this because this is the third visit that has been crappy!

Yelp
Great Happy Hour specials. Nachos are super and the Friday steak sandwich is great at 1/2 price

Yelp
The Manager, Peter was so great to us! Excellent service and so accommodating ! Great food when we needed some, thank you for the great experience in your club!!! And the band last night Rocked!!! Thanks Peter!!! From your very satisfied customers from Brooks Ab!

Yelp
I can only comment on my lunch experience, but in 4 months that I have visited (at least once per week as I work upstairs from the pub ), I can truly say that I/we have never received a bad meal or lack of service here. The lunch specials are incredibley delish...and Annaleise (spelling?) is a dream of a server. On occasion we can bring 6 to 8 people for lunch at a time and NOT ONLY will she will remember what everyone drank from the week before...she will remind them of their drink and ask if they want the same delivered to the table. I have brought, and will continue to bring, many of my guests to Watchman's for the food and service. Food portions are perfect and lunch specials always seem to have a lot of effort put into them. Love this place for lunch!

Thomas A.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars I would, worst meal I've had in a long time. Food was cold by the time it got to the table.. Waitress forgot about our table multiple times and acknowledged the fact she forgot about us. Had a coupon for 50% off our second entree which we were told they wouldn't be vaildating because the owner was on vacation, no apology or explanation other than that (the offer is valid until March 2018)... How does this place expect return customers?

Daniel B.

Yelp
Strongly don't recommend to anyone. My wife went in today for lunch, we were barely greeted and I wasn't even sure if we were to seat ourselves. We sat down and the first impression was a lack of caring as the seats looked like they were torn by claws or a knife on most benches I could see. The waitress was nice at first, she definitely understood the importance of a first impression. When she showed up at the table to greet us we had already had enough time to decide on an appetizer and when I asked for a drink she let me know they didn't have it but was unhelpful when I asked what kind of pops they have saying she doesn't know because she doesn't drink pop but she has all the Pepsi products. My first choice was a Pepsi product and so was my second. Then I settled on one they did end up having. over ten minutes to get those drinks and we placed our food order, got our appetizer just after that. We ordered the Watchman's Supreme Fries and it came to us warm, not hot by any means and you could tell it sat for a bit. The nacho cheese sauce on it tasted almost exactly like the stuff you get from 7-11. She finally came back later with our food which was fresh from the kitchen and tasted OK. Didn't ask us about needing more drinks or anything. After 20 minutes, she still hadn't checked up on us, our drinks were empty most of the time and when I waved her down she very snottily told me to wait a few seconds. We asked for another drink and our bill. Again, she was in no rush. She dropped the debit terminal on our table and walked to the neighboring table for a moment, long enough for me to figure out if she meant for me to do it myself as if there was no cashier code to enter. As I was about to pay I told her that if she is going to add $2.00 for a sauce and a pop refill charge she lets the customer know first. She suggested the sauce and didn't say anything about the surcharge on it and didn't mention anything about the pop cost either. She got very pissy telling me that every restaurant will charge both of them and started laying in to me about it until I told her I've been working in restaurants for almost ten years, I know they charge for a sauce. But 1 fl.oz. for $2.00 is a bit much and the fact that she didn't mention the price leaving me to guess if there was one is what made me mad. And I have only ever seen charges for pop refills at smaller restaurants that serve canned pop or Wendy's and a couple other fast food places. Another small annoyance was the girl sitting at the bar. I couldn't tell if she was a waitress that was bored between customers/on brunch or if she was a friend of my server. Whoever she was, the server was more interested in that woman than the rest of the restaurant until I saw a man standing beside the bar. I thought he might have been kitchen staff as it looked like he came from the back, but since he sat in the dinning area and she wasn't talking to her friend so much, I now assume he to be a manager. If I had caught that her friend was quiet before leaving, I would have chatted then. I know I have only lived in Calgary for almost a year now, but I have only been charged once for sauce and that was at a high end, charge you for everything kind of place. Pros: She made sure to explain the chips that my wife ordered were actually chips with a lattice shape and not fries and did suggest the sauce for it. The food was cheap. If that manager reads this, I don't know the persons name as I forgot to grab the bill because I was in a hurry to leave. I really wanted to leave after that snarky comment about waiting for her. However, she was the only one working the floor on March 11 between 12:30pm and 1:30pm. I see no reason to return to this place if staff is this bad during a very slow period. I can only imagine if she got stressed during peak rush period. Though with the cheap food, I guess you get what you pay for.

Yelp
So a few weeks ago a few friends and I decided to check out Watchman's - mostly because there was room on the patio. We were hungry and thirsty, waited a normal amount of time to be noticed, ordered our drinks and got the menu, decided on 5 different appetizers - the waitress came back to take our order but figured she would remember and didn't write anything down. Our food took almost a half hour to come and she had brought us items we didn't even order....(because she didn't write down what we asked for) the food was amazing!! The only complaint I would have is that the service was not the best, were constantly waiting for her to come back so we could order more drinks. She was also a bit attitudey.

Yelp
Waitress asked why she was not tipped and then had security remove us from the restaurant. This past spring my fiancé and I, with a friend visited watchmen on a Friday night. The security guard chased me down and grabbed my arm demanding ID was shocked but flattered as I am thirty in a few months. After settling at a booth a waitress quickly took our order we had several drinks and shot specials and a bite to eat. The food was as expected when it comes to pub food. Several times we tried to wave down anyone to get a glass of water with no luck I finally approached to counter where I waited 15minutes to get a glass of water! After receiving our $85 bill my fiancé handed over a 100 and the waitress returned with the change. My fiancé and I waited at the table while our friend used the bathroom. The waitress Michele (I believe her name was) returned to the table tapped my fiancé on the shoulder mid conversation and asked if something was wrong with the service while rapidly blinking her eyes then proceeded to say "If there wasn't anything wrong with me servicing you then why didn't you tip? What you can't tip %15 on a $85 dollar bill?" I was beyond shocked and disgusted by this and asked her what the manager would think of her pathetic behavior and if that was normal practice, if she was not being tipped that is a clear reflection that her service is not appreciated. Went on to mention her rolling her eyes during me placing my order, the wait at the counter to ask for water. And then then having the gull to return asking for a tip, laughing I told her there was no way the hell she was getting a cent and I would be contacting management during business hours. Her response was "ya? Ya? Ya? Well, we'll see about that" and she left. Security returned inside of a minute and told us to "get up and get the hell out!" I would never recommend this establishment to anyone for anything. This waitress was unbelievable and how she is still employed as a server is baffling. I never contacted management as I misplaced the receipt and was not completely confident on the name of the server/waitress. Her behavior was clearly something she had done before so I am sure they are aware but have done nothing to correct this behavior. 17th ave has a number of options in the general area with dishes of the same caliber. I should have known the experience was not going to be good. For a Friday night at 11:30 there was max 15people in the pub. Best to find another pub and there are plenty steps away!

Yelp
So, I really never write reviews, I actually made an account just to post this. I have made the mistake of repeatedly going back here and giving it another shot, even though every experience has been horrible. I'll stick to me two most recent experiences just so this isn't too long. First, back in February; we went on a Saturday night (everywhere else was packed) and got the beef taco special and they were, much to our surprise based on past experiences, actually really awesome...like way better than the mexican place next door. They even looked great, modern and fresh, totally not what we expected just from looking around. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. The girl serving us seemed plastered. We were pretty much ignored the entire time we were there, I couldn't get more water, no one asked us how our food was, the only time our server seemed interested in actually doing her job was when it came time to pay the bill. The servers all seemed to be hanging out, doing shots with some extremely drunk older men who, frankly, should have been cut off long before. Also the beer we ordered tasted really skunky, and the customers at the bar were so loud and "over-served" just made for a really unpleasant atmosphere. We hadn't really planned on going back because of this but, a couple months later, in April, again everywhere else was full and we saw they had the taco special on again for game day, and we figured at least we'd get some good food, fairly quickly because it was so dead. We ordered (bottled beer this time) and a mix of the beef and chicken tacos for the two of us, and...just wow. After waiting 15 minutes, we flagged down our inattentive server and asked how long the food would be - I know it wasn't very long but come on, they're tacos and I didn't see anyone else order food. She told us, no joke, the chef was out smoking and hadn't seen out order, but it would be up soon. When we did get our food, I can't express how disappointed I was( I was really hungry). First, they looked awful, not at all like the last time they just seemed thrown together. They were also cold, like the meat had been sitting around at room temperature for god knows how long. And they were just bad, no flavour, weirdly tough just overall bad..really really bad. We couldn't even eat them. It really takes a lot for me to send food back, especially when I'm that hungry but there was no way I was paying for them. We told the server that our food was virtually inedible and she said "so, what do you want me to do, do you want something else?". At this point I was just angry, and said no, I don't think anything else will be any better, and she actually rolled her eyes and said she would see what she could do. She went back to the kitchen and the manager, Peter came over and apologized, and said that the bill would be taken care of, and he would really love to get us something to eat on him. He seemed so desperate that we agreed, and just ordered a couple burgers and fries, because how can anyone screw that up? Whoever is cooking here, that's who. The fries were clearly frozen and then not cooked long enough and the burger...just ew. I can't really explain what was so bad about it, it tasted like a no name discount frozen burger patty made from god knows what. It had no flavour, it was dry it fell apart, I wouldn't feed it to my dog. When our unhappy desperate manager friend came over to check how we liked it, I told him I just didn't think it was very good at all. He apologized and stammeringly offered to get us another drink but I was so hungry and annoyed, I actually turned down free booze so we could get something worth eating. He said he would love to have us back and if we decided to return he would happily offer us a free meal, I smiled and said sure, but honestly I just felt bad for him, clearly this isn't the first time he's dealt with this reaction to the food. So essentially the food is so bad, I wouldn't eat it for free, the service is awful, and while the manager was very nice, the whole place just reeks of desperation and he is really helping that along. Looking at the two recent positive reviews, I think it must be the staff writing them because I really don't understand how anyone would come here and be satisfied with the experience.
