Eat and Drink Your Way Around Virginia Beach | Eater

"Waterman’s served its first orange crush in 1981, and the cocktail has become a trademark of the boardwalk. The menu now features more than a dozen variations on the classic formula of vodka, orange juice, and lemon-lime soda. Options include the rum-spiked mango chili crush and a ruby red crush made with grapefruit vodka sourced from Waterman Spirits, a local and women-owned distillery. The food menu is loaded with casual fare, from burgers to salads and beach favorites like fish tacos and a fried seafood platter." - Travis Mitchell

AMAZING! Sorry, guys, I only gave you five stars because it wouldn't let me put ten stars... I don't even know where to start honestly. What an amazing place, amazing food and amazing atmosphere. Waitresses are very knowledgeable. Staff is very friendly and very quick. Seated immediately got our food within fifteen minutes of ordering, and from what we observed just about everybody else was on the same fifteen minutes from sitting down to getting their food. (Off Season) It would be very easy to go to $50 a person, but we only spent about $30 a person. I'll tell you I don't even like seafood in general. But the She Crab Soup was to die for!!!! They made a permanent fan, and every time we come to the beach we will be going there at least one of the seven days for dinner or lunch it won't matter which. Cute little gift store. Some things are affordable. Some things are you better have some money but either way worth a visit, very cute unique gifts. A couple of baskets of on sale t shirts, 15$. They have very adorable bracelets by the register for 5 dollars pretty unique. The other under special events was they have a trivia night. It being october, it is halloween themed. Did not participate.

⭐⭐½ to ⭐⭐⭐—Waterman’s Surfside Grille Overall, I’d place Waterman’s Surfside Grille in the 2.5 to 3-star range, depending on expectations. The Good: Let’s start with the positives. Our server was top-notch—attentive, personable, and clearly enjoyed what he was doing. Drinks stayed full, questions were answered without hesitation, and check-ins were frequent but never overbearing. That level of service really stood out. He made us laugh and we enjoyed our encounters with him. The host team at the front door was friendly and professional. Nothing extraordinary, but they were organized and had things under control. The atmosphere was eclectic and kind of neat. The place was very busy, which is usually a good sign and definitely added to the energy. The Food (Where It Gets Mixed): We started with the “She Crab Soup”, which is advertised as a signature bisque with lump crab meat. Flavor-wise, it was very good—rich and tasty—but surprisingly light on actual crab. We found maybe one mediocre piece of crab, which was a letdown given the description. Great flavor, just wished there was more crab throughout. I ordered the “fried seafood platter” with white fish, sea scallops, jumbo shrimp, crab cakes, hush puppies, fries, coleslaw, cocktail sauce, and tartar sauce. • The fish was excellent—crispy outside, moist inside, and well cooked. • The scallops were just slightly undercooked with a kiss of translucence in the center. • The jumbo shrimp were overcooked and rubbery. • The crab cakes were okay, nothing memorable. • The tartar sauce was underwhelming. Overall, the food gave off a bit of an “upscale fast-food” feel—by upscale, I mean some components didn’t seem frozen, but it still lacked the refinement I expected from an oceanfront seafood restaurant. Being right on the beach, I honestly hoped for more. My wife ordered a “just seafood” dish and experienced the same issue: the shrimp were overcooked and rubbery. Her vegetables were overly soft, and the potatoes were unimpressive—almost paste-like in texture. Cocktails: We ordered cocktails as well. My wife chose one of their signature drinks, which met her expectations. I went with a classic Old Fashioned, but what arrived was their own “signature” version instead. It appeared to be a pre-mixed cocktail poured over tiny ice cubes—almost Sonic-style ice—which quickly diluted the drink. It tasted fine, but it wasn’t the classic Old Fashioned I expected with a proper cherry, orange peel, bitters, and sugar cube. Not bad—just unexpected. Parking: Parking is worth mentioning. There was no available street parking near the restaurant, and the spots directly out front were valet-only. We ended up parking down the street in public access parking, so plan accordingly. Would We Return? If we’re in the area again, probably—but it wouldn’t be our first choice. Now that we know what to expect, it could work if nothing else nearby is appealing. That said, I’d be more inclined to try a different restaurant before returning.

Great afternoon at the beach to enjoy a warmer weekend in MID November. The coconut chicken sandwich with smashed avocado was absolutely delicious! The cheese sticks are huge, hand breaded and tops down, my favorite of any place. There was no wait and staff was super helpful and kind when trying to decide between menu items. Fried shrimp were good. And the pulled BBQ sandwich. Enjoyed a walk on the beach after we ate before going back to valet for our car. Absolutely recommend this spot and their other locations are fantastic as well. 😁

Google
On vacation and Waterman's was recommended for good seafood. What an understatement. It was amazing. We were seated quickly. Our server, Samantha P, greeted us with a smile and took our order. The appetizers were outstanding! Muscles were delicious. So sweet and melted in my mouth! The bacon wrapped scallops were also perfectly cooked. The bacon crispy and the scallops were tender and delicious. Main course was lump crab cakes. Probably the best I have had. No fillers, just delicious crab perfectly seasoned. If you haven't been here, I highly recommend you make it a must go to for an outstanding meal.

Monday evening we had dinner and had an excellent time. Kaitlyn was our absolutely amazing server and she gave us great recommendations. Their crush drinks were tasty. The scallops appetizer was the best scallops we have ever had. For our entree the vegetable medley complimented the crab meat and shrimp along with the scallops. The dessert was well crafted. The key lime pie was just right and the crush cake was warm and fluffy. 10/10 would recommend.

Our third visit here this week. Once again everything was great. Peel and eat shrimp appetizer was very good and plentiful. The she crab soup was very good as well. The dinner entrees were wonderful as well. We are going to miss this place.

Walked in and went straight to the bar. Super clean and chill atmosphere. Valet parking and the inside dining faced the boardwalk with the beach in the background. My bartender Chloe recommended the Waterman’s Pasta for a full seafood experience. I’m glad she did! The noodles were perfect, the sauce was creamy and the seafood was huge scallops jumbo shrimp and delicious sausage and a bunch more ingredients. I ate all of it and ordered a piece of Key Lime Pie to-go. Perfect lunch!

Sunday Brunch was SOLID! Tasted great, service was great, view and location was great! I ordered the Crab’s Benedict and it was flavorful! I loved their Cinnamon Sticky Bun and sweetness was perfectly paired with their large mug of coffee. It was a great place to grab food with friends. When we ate here, the weather was perfect and sitting besides the open windows was so nice with a view of the ocean and boardwalk!

Yelp
This place is amazing! We went during the week in the evening and it was busy but we were immediately sat on the covered patio. We had two kids and needed two high chairs. One of the straps were broken but they quickly found another high chair to replace it. Tony was our waiter and he was great. Very quick and friendly. The food was good as always. My wife loved the orange crush and I had a few local beers that were delicious. Waterman's is a must go when you're visiting VA beach!

Kandi R.

Yelp
This was recommended and we were happy. I love seafood and he can't eat it......but this was a happy balance. We sat on the covered yet heated patio with a great view of the beach. Tony the server was great with dish recommendation and attentiveness. The crab cake was fried; trying something out of my norm, I get broiled. That crab cake had no flavor, not even Old Bay. It was as if they forgot. I use the calamari sauce, which was delicious. Mashed potatoes (taste like instant mashed potatoes) and broccoli were bland as well. I just made it work because I was starving. Babe had the Cajun Chicken Pasta yup he loved it, devoured it.....said it was so delicious. Didn't even offer a taste of it. Orange Crush drink was 10/10 he had 2 and sucked them down so fast. Calamari was good no flavor without the sauce Hush puppies were cooked perfectly and good She crab soup was amazing!!! Lump crab filled i love that. -----‐------------------------------------- When we first walked in we are politely greeted, to the left small store and to the right a bar area. Then there was a dog on a leash with no sort of vest but told it was a service dog. Instead of seating at the bar we decided patio, to not eat with dog hair floating around our food. Dog allergies are real and people aren't considerate of others. Food: 3 star Service: 5 star Atmosphere: 3 star It was the service for me........

Yelp
The 3 stars are for the waiter. He did an amazing job. I wish I got his name. Not much parking available, but the restaurant has valet that was very convenient. The atmosphere was lively and almost every seat had a view of the beach/water. The just seafood dish was just ok... jumbo shrimp wasn't jumbo, scallops were a little under cooked and not much lump to the lump crab meat... it tasted more like butter than anything else. Also, wasn't that impressed with the orange crush... maybe another flavor. This place came highly recommended... so I may have had a unique one-off bad experience. The service and atmosphere (and reputation) would bring me back for a second try if/when I'm back in the area.

Yelp
Let me first start off by saying that the staff at Waterman's are so nice. My family and I dined at the restaurant on November 10, 2025, and were greeted by the hostess who immediately took us to a table with a nice view of the ocean. Our waiter immediately came over and shared drink recommendations and specials. We were in luck because all app's were half off on Monday's. We started with crab dip, tuna bites and the calamari. All were delicious and cooked perfectly. For entrees we ordered the mussels with thai red curry sauce and seafood platters. The food was awesome and came out fast. This place is very popular so I recommend using their reservations portal during the week as they release a limited number of reservations. Otherwise it's first come, first serve, especially on weekends. If you haven't been to Waterman's don't walk...run!! It's sooo good!
google avatar

Lora B.

Yelp
It was late when we arrived, we were greeted by the valet person upon arrival, telling us to enjoy our meal. The waitress was very friendly and helpful with making our decision on what to order. Very pleased with what we chose, delicious

Yelp
Saturday night last minute dinner. We drove into the parking lot, valet quickly. Put our name in for a 30 minute wait, we were able to grab 2 seats in the bar. This is a busy place on weekends. I don't do research albeit, I'm grateful we came by. The blackened Greek salad, I would've said dressing on the side because it was overpowering with the pickled dressing. Great service! Great food at the bar! To our servers tonight, Thank You!

Yelp
I was on vacation in VA Beach and Waterman's was recommended to me! It was popping and seems like it is always busy, so I would go early! The good thing is that you can sit at the bar and order food and drinks, so my friend and I went to the outdoor bar and could sit right away, instead of waiting for an hour! We were told we needed to try these specialties-- orange crush cocktail, she crab soup, and crab fries. All of these were so amazing! We also ordered fried shrimp and fried oysters, but felt this was too heavy and not as good as the appetizers. If I were to go back, I would just order several appetizers and share! Sitting at the bar has pros and cons. Pros: no wait, watching the bartenders make the drinks in front of you, and quick service! Cons: bees flying everywhere! They left us alone, but be aware.

Yelp
Waterman's Surfside Grill is a lively friendly tasty 40-year-old bar and seafood restaurant. If you time it right, you can get a terrific view of the ocean in their "stadium-tiered" seating. Their reservations policy says it can change, and this day it was for groups of 6 or more, and we were only two. We got there before 7pm on a Sunday this past 4th of July weekend, and they were hopping! We left our car with the free valet (tips accepted on the way out :-), and asked for ocean-view seating, then waited in the lively bar up front, where friendly busy bartenders were flying, keeping up with a hectic scene. Start with their famous orange crushes, strong and sweet, which Waterman says that their earlier establishment introduced to Virginia Beach about a decade ago, and which are something of a fixture around town. Mighty refreshing! We didn't wait long at all, maybe 15 minutes, and were whisked to a corner window table! Plenty of people-watching on the boardwalk, and the ocean put on a splashy show in advance of an offshore storm, which also brought out some creative kites. The two of us shared some apps and plates, (and several more crushes :-), and kept the price quite reasonable for such delicious fresh seafood. Their lightly flash-fried calamari was tender with just enough bite, with zingy banana pepper rings and a rich orange-chipotle dipping sauce that shows off the smokey-sweet flavor of that pepper. The good-size scallops were delicate and juicy and gently-seared with veggies. A very satisfying generous serving of five scallops. Our shared main dish was the perfectly blackened "coldwater" salmon with fresh-cilantro rice and lightly sauteed veggies, a well-prepared taste sensation. All were delicious offerings! Everyone here was friendly and efficient and busy, and the food and drinks were fabulous. A shoutout (and a well-deserved full-dinner tip) to our wonderful attentive server who never flinched at our small party dining lightly and drinking specials at a window table during a busy dinner hour :-).

Yelp
2025 July Back 1 year later and the food and service was still very good. It was Friday so no happy menu which is a great deal.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great seaside restaurant located right nest to the southern end of the boardwalk. It's tastefully decorated and the staff is prompt and helpful. The seafood is sooo fresh and delicious. Definitely somewhere you want to go if you are in town. There are long lines so be prepared to wait. Parking is also at a premium so plan accordingly.

Yelp
I would like to share some beautiful photos of perfectly plated food, but full disclosure- I started scarfing everything down the second the waiter dropped it on the table. We (a party of 6) arrived mid-afternoon on a holiday weekend (the Sunday after the busy July 4 beach celebration) and were promptly seated. It's worth noting here that Waterman's has great tables for slightly larger parties- nice round tables so you can actually face and speak to everyone in the party. You don't feel boxed in or squished next to your neighbor. Our waiter, whose name I wish I'd written down, was absolutely fantastic. He gave us a quick run down on the specials and handed out the lunch menus. I'd prescanned the menu online and was disappointed to see the lunch menu didn't have the "just scallops" dish I'd been craving and he waved off my disappointment and said that they could make anything off the dinner menu as well. Waterman's claims to be the home of the original orange crush drink. If you follow the crush scene, you likely already know there's some controversy over whether it was actually originated in Ocean City or Virginia Beach. I'm no beverage historian, so I won't hazard a guess as to accuracy of that claim but I will say Waterman's ALWAYS has the best crushes. They use actual hand operated citrus crush machines to squeeze out fresh OJ, add triple sec, their own Waterman's distilled crush vodka, and a splash of sprite. The result is refreshing, tasty, and gives a nice kick! The crush I had this day was no exception. Two of my guests were out-of-towners so after indoctrinating them on the necessity of an orange crush, I explained that the crown jewel here for me is the she-crab soup. It's the best on the oceanfront, and if you skip it then you're missing out. All six of us indulged, and all six of us were moaning with pleasure as we did so. My "just scallops" were just perfect! Huge, drenched in butter and seasoning, served alongside rice and veggies, it was my idea of a perfect meal. Note that you get to select two sides, these are my go-tos but you have other options as well including mashed potatoes, fries, hush puppies, and various other items. My husband decided to get the tuna sandwich and absolutely raved about it. It looked to be cooked perfectly, not overdone and not raw. Funny note, he said, "I don't usually love tuna but this is incredible" and I wondered why he ordered tuna if he doesn't usually love it but that orange crush may have gone to his head. We left with our guests feeling spoiled and fat, the way one should after a REALLY good meal! If you want to experience a truly good meal in a really beautiful setting- hit up Waterman's!

Yelp
I came on a Thursday evening and was told they only accept walk in only, no reservations. I arrived at 6:15 to get a table for 7 and was quoted about 1.5 hr wait. While that wait I went to the backside to have an orange crush drink while the wait. It was such a good cocktail and felt refreshing! After about an hour and half they had the table ready. I got the Crab Stuffed Fish of the day ($33) and take came out in about 30 minutes. The crab and fish were phenomenal! The crab was the star of the meal. The vegetables and rice were lacking a bit, but they were just the sides. Staff and service were ok given on busy it was. Food(50%): 8.3 Staff/service(25%): 6.0 Value(25%): 6.0 Overall: 7.2/10

Yelp
Had three days to visit the Hampton Roads area...and headed over to Virginia Beach for a seafood lunch -- and mid Atlantic crab was a must eat for me! Had lunch with a crab cake, fries and a side of broccoli salad...my wife had the She Crab soup. The tables were on a lovely patio with a view of the Atlantic boardwalk...overall this was a great lunch for ambiance, service and food. She crab soup (I had a few bites!) was delicious...as were the crab cakes! Great spot and we would both come back!

Yelp
I'm not often around VA Beach but when I am I have to make a stop at Waterman's. It's been my go-to spot for years now. I love the cajun pastas - both the Waterman's original pasta and the cajun chicken pasta. I've also had a few appetizers (calamari, she crab soup, hushpuppies) and drinks (orange crush, strawberry lemonade, lemon crush) and they have all been great too, though the drinks are a bit smaller than I'd like. The restaurant is usually packed so you may have a wait. They have seating indoors, in their covered patio, and at the bar.
google avatar

Angel E.

Yelp
I appreciate that the bar area seating is open which includes booths for up to 5. I ordered the fried flounder, the fish of the day and it was really good. I wish I received more than 1 piece but it was a good amount for a meal. The broccoli and potatoes were good too. The waitress was very nice and made sure we were happy with our meals.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here with a party of 10 (6 adults and 4 kids) and we were seated immediately. The place looked busy from the outside and we thought we'd have to wait long for a table. Many patrons opted to eat at their "indoor/outdoor" space to enjoy the chilly April weather and we were seated in a section that was quiet enough where we were disturbing other patrons or vice versa with 4 kids! The menu was extensive and offered the typical foods you'd find along a beach side restaurant (i.e.: burgers, friends, wraps, salads, etc.). I loved that the menu was extensive and offered something for everyone. I ordered the tropical chicken burger which was SO good that I wish I didn't share the other half with my husband. We tend to each other something different and split the dish so we can try different dishes. He ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which was disappointing. Salty and kind of dry and was just meh after shoving that tropical chicken in my mouth. Other dishes that were ordered was a fish tacos, buffalo bites, and a lot of drinks during their happy hour. Our waitress was amazing. With 10 people asking for different things at different times, she was really on top of us and made sure we didn't wait too long for whatever we asked for. She even gave us souvenir plastic cups that our drinks came in which was nice. If I ever came back to VB, this is definitely one place I would come back to!

Yelp
Whenever my dad comes to visit, waterman's is at the top of his list for places to eat. From the views of the ocean, to the freshly squeezed orange crushes -- they don't disappoint. We came here for dinner on a Tuesday. It was relatively busy, but we didn't have to wait for a table inside. To start, we had a round of orange crushes, waterman's signature drink. There's only a few places that can nail this cocktail, and they sure do! We ordered the mussels in the white wine sauce for an appetizer. It came with warm pita bread which was perfect for dipping in the wine sauce. 10/10. For dinner, I ordered the crab cake sandwich (broiled) with fries. It was exactly what I was in the mood for, and didn't feel too heavy. My dad got the crab stuffed fish of the day, which was flounder. It came with rice and grilled veggies. He was so satisfied with his decision, and of course I had to take a bite! Delicious. Our waitress was very kind and professional. She told us her favorite menu items and was great with recommendations. Can't wait to come back this summer.

Yelp
We sat at the bar for dinner. Chris was our bartender. He did an excellent job, He greeted us and made sure we had everything we needed. The three bartenders worked well together and kept our drinks full. Drinks: We both had the coconut lime crush. They were delicious a perfect summer time drink. Food: I had the Guinness burger and fries. The burger was good but the aioli that comes with it was bland. My wife had the stuffed fish of the day. It was flounder today. It was excellent and so were the vegetables that came with it. The atmosphere was nice. It's right on the beach and the bar area has 6 TVs. I would highly recommend this place especially for their Crush drinks and sleds Food.

Yelp
What a gem for the whole family! We walked the boardwalk to arrive and had no idea of the indoor seating (night and day from patio but I get it due to storms). We were greeted right away on the beach side from the hostess and wanted to sit in the patio with our 5 year old. Our server came quickly with a pleasant smile and got us waters, a non alcoholic Orange crush and two local beers on tap. We also ordered the crab dip which came with tortilla chips. It was so creamy and delicious. I couldn't get enough crab so I also ordered the crab cake sandwich which came with fries. The crab cake is 80% crab and the rest is flavoring and I loved it. Ate every bite and fries were perfect too. Forgot to take a pic of our sandwiches!!

Yelp
Ok this is the place to get down and enjoy some fresh seafood. As we pulled in the parking lot valet took keys and parked for free. As we entered a happy hello was said by the hostess. We were seated right away to a great table with a beach view. Our server Sara was amazing and provided excellent customer service. The food from the She Crab soup, fish tacos, salmon, and seafood platter was delicious .
google avatar

Shilisa D.

Yelp
Waterman's is located on the oceanfront in Virginia Beach. We were seated immediately and received good service. The she crab soup was bland and had pieces of crabmeat in it not lump. The broiled seafood platter was good, it just needed a little more seasoning but the cocktail sauce made up for it lol. The prices were comparable to the portions. The coleslaw was a little bland as well but I added malt vinegar to spice it up. The key lime pie was delicious.
google avatar

Janet T.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place. I'd heard so much about it but I was not impressed. The food was just ok. The calamari was tasteless. I guess they flash fry. The fried scallops were perfect as were the hush puppies. The service was okay. I would say it's time for an upgrade or remodel. It was really loud in there. The drinks were good. The table was wet when we were seated. I had to dry my spot with napkins. I probably won't go back.

Yelp
Food is always excellent! Shawn treated us great and we love Watermans! Thankful for the gift cards too!!! Thank you!!!

Yelp
Favorite restaurant on the ocean front! Smothered fries w/ ranch are so good. We've had the crabby fries before and they are just as fantastic. My favorite meal is the ribs & bbq chicken. My boyfriend always gets the fried shrimp basket. Sides are amazing, do yourself a favor and get the hush puppies!! If you're a dessert fan, get the peanut butter pie. Great views of the water! & the staff is always so nice and accommodating. Locals & tourists alike, THIS IS THE SPOT!

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. I've gone before I think I enjoyed the food more. Maybe I just should not go in the summer. It was super crowded, but they did get us in in about a half hour and we did have a view of the ocean. The she crab soup was really really yummy. The crabcake was pretty good. The crab dip left some to desire the mashed potatoes were a bit cold tasteless and yuck. The guys really enjoyed their Waterman pasta, and I had a lot of good proteins in it.
google avatar

Janice P.

Yelp
Food was really good, not large portions, get a salad or appetizer. Server was on top of things Atmosphere is crowded and loud but you can still talk to each other. No wait even though they were really busy. Nice ocean front view.

Jayne K.

Yelp
We enjoyed the food and of course the orange crushes Hunter our waiter was really good too. Fun evening!

Yelp
Waterman's was a hit for our group! I ordered the Ultimate Just Seafood entrée and WOW -- it lived up to the name. Juicy lobster, perfectly seared scallops, tender shrimp, lump crab meat... all nestled next to creamy mashed potatoes and fresh veggies. 10/10 seafood dream on a plate. Service was on point -- super friendly and attentive. If you're in Virginia Beach and craving seafood, hit up Waterman's. You won't regret it!

Yelp
My husband and I ate here several months ago in January and we loved it. The prices were surprisingly reasonable and our food was delicious. We will definitely come back!

Yelp
Lunch on Monday. Started getting busy after noon but we got there before then. Food was ok. I've been here before and remember the food being way better back then but it was ok. Not bad, maybe my expectations were too high. Idk. Seated quickly, hostess was nice, very clean. Was kinda loud bc the jets were flying by. Waitress was a little short with us but not rude. Food came out quickly.

Yelp
Still one of my favorite places at the oceanfront! The originator of the orange crush and they still have their drinks down pat. Very good and strong. I tried their pomegranate crush (fall drink) and it was more like an orange crush but good. I always get the steamed shrimp- no old bay this time and they were great. Good size and tasty. Based on reviews I tried their crab dip and wow! So good! This would never be something I would have ordered on my own, but it was very cheesy, lots of crab, reminded me of a chicken dip- so good. Lastly, I tried their she crab soup which was fantastic. My sister says doesn't like crab, but tried it and really liked it, so we split it. As always, a much visit when I'm in town! I just wish they were pet friendly.

Yelp
What a great waterfront establishment with a wonderful dining room. It provides for both casual or relaxed dining and faces the ocean so the experience has that seaside ambience. The service (Hannah) was awesome and personal. Truly Hannah cared about our needs throughout the meal. My meal was exceptional having the Just Seafood selection and i upraded to crabby fries. Yes their was crab on my fries!!And for me from New England I'm a seafood snob so if you're in VA Beach, Valet parking service with great food abd better service it's a must visit!

Yelp
It's always so nice coming here! I think this will always be a must stop restaurant when I visit Virginia Beach. This time I ordered the mozzarella sticks and fish of the day which was red snapper. Let me tell you that was the best mozzarella sticks I've ever had! Red snapper fillet was the fish of the day and that's my favorite so had to get that. Everything was delicious. Highly highly recommend

Yelp
Walked in for dinner on a busy Friday night. Got seated after about a 15-minute wait. It is a huge place with a souvenir shop. Had the orange crush which is one of their signature crushes. It was alright for me. Bacon wrapped sea scallops for appetizer was so good. The fried seafood platter was a ton of food: shrimp, scallops, crab cake, hush puppies, and fried fish. I liked it. The classic Virginia crab imperial was very good. It was a lot of crab meat in a creamy baked goodness. Even though the night was very busy, it was surprising all the orders came super fast, 5 minutes or less. Paige, our server, had great recommendations and was super quick. Flourless chocolate cake was decadent. Very very good. For the quick and excellent service, great food with good decors, I would give this place 5/5.

Yelp
This was a VERY delicious birthday meal. Our toddler was very tired from a day at the beach so we did call to try to place an order to pick up but they said they were not taking any phone orders. It was a Sunday evening and the beach or the boardwalk wasn't packed all day so we thought it would be a good thing... but it's okay... we just ended up going to the restaurant and ordering to go and then ate in the hotel. I am big on seafood. So this was right up my alley! The lobster tail was cooked perfectly and so were the scallops. The pasta we had was okay. We got no seasoning because it said Cajun and i knew my toddler wanted to eat that and she did but it was bland without the Cajun kick. The crab cake was just okay. I prefer a lump crab crake and this wasn't it and it had a lot of shell pieces in it. So I know it was fresh but i prefer my crab cake without the shells in it. The mashed potatoes could have been whipped a little more and it could have been buttery... but the veggies were cooked perfectly!

Yelp
Excellent food and fantastic service (Roddy (aka Mark Ruffalo lol) was fantastic! He was warm, extremely patient, and offered great recommendations). Everything we had was delicious. The seafood is fresh, the filet mignon is flavorful and cooked perfectly to temp, and the kids loved the chicken tenders, strawberry mockaritas, and mozzarella sticks (the appetizer size comes with four big, perfectly crispy, cheesy sticks). And the orange crush is made with fresh squeezed orange juice (which is the legit way to do it). SOO yummy! The interior is spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable. We'd definitely recommend!

Yelp
Outstanding! We were visiting for a couple nights and met people in our hotel that said the food was great and they were not wrong. Very nice place toward the south end of Virginia Beach. The staff was so nice. The food and drinks perfect. Plus a nice view of the ocean. I tried the fish of the day which was flounder with a Parmesan peppercorn sauce and it was the best piece of fish that I have ever eaten. It's a must try.

Yelp
First meal here in Virginia! Arrived from the airport, checked in to my hotel, then walked to this restaurant for dinner. Super convenient location, 10+ points for walkability! Sara was our server and she was great! We truly appreciate her telling the chefs of my sister's seafood allergy, made my sister feel safe and assured. I was so hungry after flying all day so I got so many plates LOL. The "ultra just seafood" was perfect to satisfy my seafood craving and the side of fries with crab dip was great pairing. Also, my sister requested broccoli to her cajun pasta and they accommodated! Appreciate that as well. It was so cold outside so we were skeptical of being sat at the outdoor patio, but it wasn't that bad! It was warm and covered so the wind did not pierce through at all. Anyways, great experience and great first impression for my Virginia experience

Yelp
Normally we wouldn't select a dining spot in the middle of "tourist trap heck" but we were invited here to join local friends we are visiting. They had a nice menu with enough (but not too many) choices to please just about any palette. The service was excellent and the food very good. And what a great dessert menu, best I've seen in a long time. As it was a blustery day, we elected to eat inside, but still had a great view of the beach and ocean.

Yelp
Waterman's was definitely better than expected and I had high expectations going in. The food was amazing I had the fish of the day which was Rockfish stuffed with crab. It was fresh like it was caught that day. Our sever was on point the whole night making sure we were good and keeping our drinks full. The Ambiance was beautiful, the resteraunt sits directly off the beach setting a good vibe. It was a little cloudy and windy when we went but it was still nice. Overall it was a 10/10 must try again.

Yelp
My husband and I have been to Waterman's several times, usually for dinner on a Friday through Sunday. The wait time is hit or miss--sometimes we're seated right away, other times there's an average wait. We've sat in every section, and the main dining room is by far our favorite; it has the best atmosphere. Service is consistently good--attentive, professional, and polite. The food is always fresh and well-portioned. Our go-to appetizer is the Bacon-Wrapped Scallops, and my personal favorite entrée is the Local Lump Crab Cakes. Prices are reasonable for the quality. While Waterman's has a reputation for being a bit upscale, we see it as more of a relaxed, casual dining spot. Parking can be tricky since valet is encouraged, but the valet service is quick and friendly. Overall, we enjoy Waterman's and will continue coming back!

Yelp
A true Virginia Beach staple! I've never had a bad meal here. The service is excellent, staff are always patient and attentive. While there's often a long wait, it's absolutely worth it. Favorites include the shrimp (both steamed and fried), perfectly cooked salmon, generous and fresh salads, and flavorful, filling wraps. Consistently great food and a welcoming atmosphere keep me coming back. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We went there because we received a 100$ gift card. We had rock fish (catch of the day), ribs, crab dip, a pasta dish, a burger, 1 bourbon, 1 coke. Total with gratuity was about 165.00$. Great price! Most of the food was average with slightly small portions, but that crab dip was SUPERB!!! I would certainly return for the appetizer alone. The fries (that came with the ribs) were warm to the touch. The ribs were okay. The coke slaw was okay. The fish, rice and veggies was a super small portion. My dinner companion rated it a 7.5/10. The coke was crisp and the $13.50 whiskey seemed smaller than a shot. Let alone a drink. The vibe was chill. It got crowded when we were leaving around 6:45. Our server was VERY attentive. She is the reason for the 4 versus 3 stars. The parking in the front is enough for maybe 8-10 cars, but they offer valet parking. We parked on the street. I ate there before and it was pretty much the same thing. Would I return, sure. Update: The pasta dish that I had to-go was soooooo good. It was a seafood medley pasta. I think it was a house favorite and customer favorite. I'm updating two weeks later, but it was soooo good.

Yelp
This is one of my family's favorite restaurants. The valet parking is top notch. The waiters are quick to serve you and the food is amazing. We never miss a chance to eat here when we visit Sandbridge.

Yelp
While vacationing we ventured out to dinner on the beach. Watermans has free valet parking which was convenient. Drivers work for tips. We had a 45 minute wait for a table but you can cruise the boardwalk which passed the time nicely. We ended up with what we thought was one of the best tables in the house. Covered, open air, outdoor seating, literally on the boardwalk. We tried the she crab soup which my daughter really enjoyed. It was a hardy bowl of soup, very filling. We split the flounder, fish of the day dinner that came with cilantro rice and mixed veggies. And added a side of mashed potatoes. It was a large serving of fish, plenty for us to split. Veggies were crisp and hot and well seasoned. Rice and potatoes were just ok. Great service from waiter, valet and hostess. Also tried a crush cocktail for which they ate famous. It too was just ok. Lots of crushed filled the cup.

Yelp
After finding our favorite sushi place this summer, my husband is now on the hunt for the best fried oysters this fall. It was our first time visiting Waterman's, and unfortunately, they didn't quite meet the mark. To start off, we valeted the car for a 1 PM lunch and were warmly greeted by one of the hostesses. She offered us indoor or waterside enclosed patio seating. We chose the latter and were very pleased with a corner table that offered a great view of the busy patio. We were greeted by Matt, an enthusiastic and pleasant waiter who delivered his preamble flawlessly and offered to take our drink orders. My husband ordered a beer, and I asked for a Smoky Paloma (a Paloma made with mezcal instead of tequila). Matt wasn't sure about the order and left to check. He returned a few moments later--empty-handed--to deliver the disappointing news that they couldn't make it. I opted for a regular Paloma instead, and we also ordered Buffalo tuna bites and hush puppies as appetizers. It took a little while for the drinks to arrive, but we didn't mind--we were enjoying the casual, warm atmosphere and reminiscing about what the place used to be way back when. The beer was cold, as expected, but the $16 single-shot Paloma wasn't quite to my liking. It turned out to be a "skinny" Paloma, and I declined a second. The tuna bites were good, and Matt brought both blue cheese for me and ranch for my husband, as requested. The hush puppies were warm, slightly sweet, and served with butter--slightly underdone, but still tasty. For our entrées, he ordered the fried oysters with fries and a side of broccoli, while I chose the flounder--the sustainable catch of the day--fried, with cilantro-lime rice and slaw. Sadly, nothing stood out. The flounder's breading was light and crunchy but lacked flavor, and the fish itself was cold and overdone. The rice was cooked well but cold and bland until I added butter (from the hush puppies), salt, pepper, and lemon juice. It improved slightly but remained cold. The slaw was fresh and crunchy, but overly sweet. More lemon juice, salt, and pepper helped, but only a bit. The breading on his oysters was under-seasoned (the theme of the meal), and the oysters themselves were "mushy." The fries were cool and bland, and the broccoli was also cool, crunchy, and under-seasoned--not to his liking. Overall, we were underwhelmed with our $113 lunch and left a lot of food on the table. We declined the offered take-home boxes but still left Matt a 30% tip for his great service. Still on the hunt for the best fried oysters!

Yelp
Waterman's is definitely a local's favorite and since I've been quite a few times, I decided to stop in on a Sunday evening to dine in. Since there was a 15-20 min. wait, we grabbed a drink at the bar until our table was ready. I decided on the Spring Fling Crush which was very refreshing! I was very impressed with the Crush Drink menu and definitely wanted to try each and every one lol. Our table was ready within the timeframe that they provided and our server greeted us right away. I started with the She Crab Soup which was literally served about 3 mins after I ordered it! I was very impressed with the fast service and it tasted absolutely amazing! For my entree, I decided on the Just Seafood Dinner which included shrimp, scallops and lump crab meat (not to be mistaken for a lump crab cake like I thought lol) with a side of mashed potatoes and veggies. The seafood was alright. The shrimp didn't taste very fresh but the scallops were good and the little bit of crab meat at the bottom of the dish was okay. I did order another Crush drink, the Creamsicle Crush, and it was very good!!!! I definitely plan on returning to try other Crush drinks and food items. Unfortunately, every time I order seafood here, it's a little lackluster. I do love that the restaurant is right at the Oceanfront so if you're looking for a decent meal, great drinks, and beach views definitely stop in.
