10 Best Restaurants in Nevada City and Grass Valley - Eater SF

"In 2011, the Owl, a beloved bar and grill located at one of Grass Valley’s oldest buildings, shut down abruptly, with a hint of scandal. Three local partners came to the rescue and took over, keeping the interiors true to the building’s original charm, but reimagining the space with a kitchen revamp and a relaxed, welcoming vibe. On the menu, find oysters, shrimp cakes, and blistered scallops, among other offerings, all artfully plated and made from local ingredients." - Flora Tsapovsky

Such an amazing experience. This is the perfect place to replace the Owl and a great addition to Grass Valley. The food is comfortable but so exciting and new and I absolutely love the family idea for this. The flavors are on point and the atmosphere is perfect. Highly recommend!

Great food, wonderful waitress, I think her name was Robin. I got the pulled pork my husband got the eggplant sandwich. Yummy

Truly amazing food and service. The line caught salmon was perfection as was the flatiron and the watermelon cucumber salad. Belleville was incredible--she provided the best service we've had in years. Will return.

We walked into an empty restaurant and were sat right away. The hostess was very nice and gave us some water. The waitress came by and grabbed our drink order and told us the sepicals. This took about 20 min for this interaction. The menu seems base a bit of a southern style, which it great and sounds delicious. It just seems a bit lacking of main dishes from the south. The shareable plate are good and have plenty. The spicy pecans are spicy and delicious. The meatball is huge and could be a meal itself. I would like to see it with more sauce or other toppings. The special was what we had, and it was delicious. The drinks where unique and you could tell they used homemade stuff. The menu of drinks is good, and the wine list is good too. The service was good and the whole process was slow going, which I like, and would be like a southern restaurant. Overall the experience was good, the food was good and the drinks where good. I would try it a least once. It great to see the Owl back and running again, but it does feel different.

Wow! What a wonderful surprise to find such an incredible experience here in Grass Valley. This was our second time there and the Owner/Chef did not let us down. Every ingredient was perfectly curated, locally grown, and seasoned to perfection. The incredibly fresh, made from scratch, creative menu which is meant to be shared and coupled with their own crafted cocktails is the perfect backdrop for a long, lovely, and leisurely evening spent with friends and family over a extraordinary meal. The building itself plays a delightful character with lots of history, beautiful, comfy decor, and a gorgeous stone fireplace. it wouldn't be complete if the building didn't come with it's own ghosts and a few stories to round the evening out. Can't wait to come back!

Appear we were seated next to the "family/business" table, with children running about, people seated in chairs as well as people standing, a less than pleasant atmosphere for a couple. My house salad was decent, fresh, but of the three choices for dressing doctored ranch and two vinagerettes, I chose one of those. It was applied so sparingly I have no idea of its taste only sensed some heat. The bread was good, the olive oil and lemon zest was awful. Not a taste we enjoyed. My gnocchi was store bought, flavorless, the sauce appeared to be Campbell's cheddar cheese soup with frozen peas and some tiny sprouts, devoid of flavor. We ordered chocolate cake to go, best part of meal. Keep that vendor. My wife had a different salad which she said was OK. Main course shrimp and grits she said was good. She enjoyed her German wine. Service was very good. Wife gave her experience a B-, I gave it a solid D. Note having just opened post covid they were out of Green Tomatoes still on the new menu. There was no mention of that prior to attempting to order. Basically the "Family reunion" at the table next to us was totally inconsiderate especially since it was the owners!

Our party shared a few of the offerings of the new menu that just started last night when we were there. The Pea Shoot Salad was the best salad I have had in a very long time. The Roasted Peach Farro salad was yummy too. My niece had the meatball, it was a very good. Then we had the Crispy Prawns with with grits. The Prawns were great but the grits were not to our liking.(personal preference) OH, and the Lavendar cake was wonderful! Overall the dinner was a hit in our book. Make sure to stop in and try the new menu. We can't wait to try the other offerings they have. We truly enjoyed our dinner.

I have been to Watershed on several different occasions and each time was fantastic. The menu is creative yet wholesome and I really love that everything is locally sourced and changes with what is in season. I have been blown away by the food and am never disappointed when I try something new. It is truly some of the best food I have ever had and I've been lucky enough to travel to many places including Europe, and I am so happy there is somewhere in Nevada County I can actually thoroughly enjoy going out to eat. Such a wonderful dining experience where you can relax and enjoy the food as much as the company you're with!
