HBO’s ‘Mare of Easttown’ May Be Over but Wawa Is Forever - Eater Philly

"During the press cycle for Mare, there was hardly an interview in which the show’s actors didn’t redirect the conversation to Wawa, the East Coast’s most cherished convenience store. 'Wawa is like … It’s incredible,' Evan Peters, who plays the earnest too-soon-deceased detective Colin Zabel on the show, told the New York Times. 'It’s a one-stop shop. It’s got everything in there.' Peters’s order of choice? The Gobbler, a hoagie that shows up around Thanksgiving with all the requisite turkey day fixin’s. 'It’s incredible. They have great coffee. You can get ice. You can get all sorts of good stuff there.' Winslet says she prepared for the role of Mare Sheehan by subscribing to the Delco Times and reading the paper every day. 'There would regularly be some article about Wawa,' she said on the LA Times’ podcast The Envelope. 'It almost felt like a mythical place. By the time I got there, I was like, ‘Ah, it’s real!’' Winslet — a vegetarian — mostly went to Wawa for the coffee, she said, but Peters frequently regaled her with tales of his hoagies. 'Walking into Wawa ultimately felt like an honor in a funny way,' she said. 'To me, that was the heart of Delco. I’m here, I belong, this is where it’s at.' Director Craig Zobel said that characters in the show got their authentic feel — remember when Mare wore a garment-dyed Ocean City hoodie? — from the time Meghan Kasperlik, Mare’s costume designer, spent in line at Wawa. 'Our costume designer would constantly be texting me pictures from the Wawa convenience store, just of people in the line,' Zobel said. 'Whenever we’d find something unflattering,' Winslet told the New York Times of the Wawa costume recon, 'we’d be jumping up and down like, ‘Yes! We’re wearing this.’' But it wasn’t just in preparation for filming alone that Wawa had an impact — there were several pivotal moments where Wawa showed up on-screen. Getting out of her car in episode one? Mare cradles a Wawa cup. An early sign of his love for Mare? Detective Zabel asks Mare if he can get her a Wawa coffee. Among a collection of suspicious objects on the coffee table in a predator’s dingy dungeon home? A Wawa hoagie wrapper. Wawa’s public relations supervisor, Jennifer Wolf, told Eater that they were honored to have had such a prominent role in this spring’s most talked-about show. 'We are so proud and humbled to be included in such an authentic and heartfelt show that honors our Delco region,' Wolf said. 'And even prouder to call Kate a true Wawa customer!'" - Dayna Evans

They should seriously consider allowing the customers make their own sandwiches here. I feel for them for what I assume is a high degree of tourists and drinks, but they clearly aren't incrntivisrd for speed. A bit different than the SJ Wawa experience I've come accustomed to. Can't win em all.

If you like free entertainment, roll through here after bar close on the weekends. If that’s not your vibe, just don’t show up at 3am on a Saturday. I’ve been coming to this Wawa for years and I’ve never had a bad time with their customer service. Friendly folks that are often overworked by the drunks after hours. 24/7 which is a huge plus. They got Nerd clusters too. What more could you want

I've never seen a more filthy bathroom in my life. If they can't clean the bathrooms more than twice a week in this place then something needs to be done. No toilet paper in the bathroom I mean this is ridiculous. This is Ocean City Maryland and this place should be clean at least twice a day. What are you doing Wawa?!

Visited this store often as we came out of state for vacation - this was our first Wawa experience and it was great. Decent selection, store was stocked well, and the made to order food and drinks were AMAZING. Hot and fresh, made incredibly well. Dennis the manager was helpful too. Loved this experience!

Google
ordered two sandwiches online around 11:45 and went in store for pickup as the app stated at 12:05. The store was fairly busy which was understandable but after waiting 15 minutes we approached the general manager named Kelly who was behind the sandwich counter and politely asked about the status of our order, she then gave us and everyone else who asked about their order attitude and spoke very rudely. After another 15ish minutes (now about 45 minutes since the order was placed) we approached Kelly again to ask how much longer she thought it would be she was extremely mouthy and rude and tried to dismiss me. Then she finally told me that my sandwiches were being made just then. Terrible experience.

Google
Definitely not team Wawa If it wouldn’t be for the fact that it was 130am and nothing else was open they wouldn’t of got a dime No cashier for check out has to use the self serve , paid $30 for this stupid meal that was served cold and bland with the exception of the fries that I had to wait for them to cook and even then they still missed the extras I paid for the quesadilla was no where near toasted and the Mac n cheese was cold I’d think twice about grabbing food here absolutely disappointed you have a sign for a million dollar store , safe to assume you made a million by cheating the customers

Google
Place is clean, good variety of foods. Staff were quick and courteous. Haven't grabbed anything at a Wawas for more than a decade since I haven't been working graveyard shifts. Imagine my surprise when I saw a turkey, mash potato, and stuffing bowl. Had to try it, and it was surprisingly good. Though just the turkey and stuffing, the mash was so plain. Yes, I know the photo doesn't look appetizing. When you think about it, most fast food looks like that.

Gas station was good price, great squeegee and got what we wanted fast. In and out quickly. Nice enough bathrooms- clean on the day we were there. I'd shop here again.

Yelp
This Wawa is conveniently located near our rental. It also sports a large gas station and is very busy. I've been a fan of their regular-flavored iced coffee for years now and am happy to report it still tastes the same - Perfectly creamy, not overly sweet and comes out of a machine! The cashier area is very disorganized though as its circular design and lack of a queue will have you guessing on where to wait. But, service was fairly quick and friendly. The vanilla iced coffee flavor was out so they need to keep up with replenishment.

Yelp
The people making the sandwiches forgot one of our sandwiches (1/2). We politely asked if it was being made and they said ok we will make it. After 20 more minutes of waiting, we asked again and they were VERY rude. One lady started yelling at us that we didn't pay for it when the hoagies were on the same ticket. We were just confused because of they're on the same ticket why wouldn't they both be paid for when scanning the ticket? The employees were just very rude in a situation that could've been handled by them just saying we didn't pay for it. Probably won't be back.

Yelp
Heard about Wawa from my east coast friends. There was one walking distance from our resort. .80 of a mile on the coastal strip. I have mixed feeling about this place. It's super packed and busy ALWAYS! The store and bathroom are dirty. Trash all over the place. I'm guessing it would take a full time employee to just sweep and clean the bathroom and common area. I do like the ordering kiosks. Every morning I got a latte with almond milk. No extra charge for almond milk. Both sizes cost the same. Tastes better than Starbucks but not as good as Dunkin' but a little cheaper and faster. The ladies working the registers were super nice and friendly. Would recommend if you like specialty coffees. Didn't get try the food.

Yelp
I was at an event for the week nearby and had no cash on me. There were a few things going on at the even that needed cash on hand to participate in. I am one of those people that rarely carry cash on me and hate to even when it is needed. Going up and down the road we were looking for a place that had an ATM. But not just an ATM, a surcharge free ATM. We don't need those fees This location was tucked into the strip and kind of meshes well. It sits back from the road a bit and it made for it blending it a bit better. The lot is large and accommodating. Inside there are all the things that make Wawa a Wawa. I'm still not totally onboard with Wawa, but I am not stupid either. I know it is convenient and it will usually have what I need. I needed a surcharge free ATM and they had it. Like most Wawas they had two ATMs, so my friend and I were able to use them at the same time. Making for a very quick stop before we continued on our way.

Yelp
if I could give it 0 stars, I would. I walked into exchange dollars for quarters so I can wash my clothes and the rude response I received was "we don't do change here, there's a 7/11 down the street". technically, I just purchased 53.47 worth of gas and was going to get snacks, but your employees need a little help on the customer service branch of things. never again.

Yelp
I'm a Wawa stan. So imagine how excited I was when I found out our vacation rental was 5 minutes away from one? This one is pretty good, depending on when you go. If you go late afternoon, service is quick. If you go early morning, forget about it. It's everyone stocking up on coffee and snacks before going to work, the beach, or on their ride out of town. In the week we were here, I had a breakfast burrito, a western omelette bagel, a soft pretzel, tons of iced coffee, a ham and cheese bagel, and of course, my favorite - the spicy Italian sub. I'll say that while the folks here are super nice and apologetic when it takes longer than expected to complete your order, it'll probably take longer than most other Wawa's. The bagel sandwiches and breakfast burrito wasn't great, but the sandwich was. Big parking lot outside, and of course, they have gas. Great last stop before heading out of town.

Yelp
Tammy is the best! Best cashier ever. Crazy packed this morning but she kept that line moving! Wawa should be ashamed of themselves for letting that woman be solo today. Kudos to Tammy! What a pleasant woman

Yelp
This review may be inflated coming from someone who doesn't have these around where they live. But oh my, boy what I would do to have one of these near me! Absolutely loved the convenience and variety that Wawa offered. Was in town for a few days and must have eaten here at least a handful of times. Experimenting getting different things from their vast selection, from wraps to milkshakes (which btw have a ton of different options you can customize with). All the food and drinks that I got was amazing, and all very cheap as well. I can't wait till I'm in an area again that has these!

Yelp
Great Wawa. They have a gas station. Prices for gas were comparable to home in NJ. They have a great selection of snacks, drinks, coffee and it was clean. Was in and out and back on the road in a reasonable amount of time. Dont be afraid to stop in here.
google avatar

Yelp
Craziness to get in here and once here, a mad house inside. Probably due to the fact we came around the time a lot of people head out of OC but still. We came in to order sandwiches and coffee and it took a good 20 minutes to get either. I get it that it can be busy but my gosh, that's a while for you to pour some iced coffee. The bathrooms were also pretty dirty so if you are coming to make a bathroom pit stop, it's definitely a bit gross.

Yelp
Gasoline. Check. Filled tank with no problem. This location has E free petrol at $3.22 per gallon. Doody Duty? Well, not so fast. Had to move my movement elsewhere as there was no tp in the stall!! Unacceptable. I expected more from one of the best.
google avatar

Christopher G.

Yelp
Wawa is always a stop when I see one! I really wish we had these in western PA, but I fear it's a territorial thing with Sheetz.
google avatar

Jacob Y.

Yelp
Just had a burrito and Mac n cheese here. Both were some of the worst things I have ever eaten in my life. The burrito was scorching hot to the point where I could barely pick it up and it had no flavor at all. The Mac n cheese was cold and not mixed well at all. They also gave me no spoon to eat it with. The employee didn't even give me a bag for it either, they just shoved it all out on the counter.

Yelp
We stopped at this location to fill up our gas tank to end our vacation. On the lower price for gas, store was clean. Had all the options we were looking for, for our trip back home, snacks and energy drinks. Tammy greeted me with such a positive attitude, also wished us a safe trip back home.

Yelp
Filthiest bathroom seat in the world. Hold it or go in the ocean. Only perks in this place are cheap gas, throwback mountain dew, and the new york times is on sale here!

Yelp
This place is awesome and has everything great food for great prices and great service. Every time I come to Ocean City I always go to wawa and I'm never disappointed. You HAVE to go there.
google avatar

Yelp
I have driven all over this country and have stopped in many Wawa stores. They are usually clean and have a friendly staff. This store had the filthiest bathroom and trash littering the floor. I understand they are a busy location but this store was just unsanitary. Sink and toilets were stained from lack of cleaning not just because someone made a mess. One bad apple doesn't ruin my opinion of what I think is a good chain. Ken

Yelp
Put in an order for a milkshake 20 minutes before anyone else ordered anything and watched people get served before us before having to ask for it and getting an attitude.
google avatar

Tim D.

Yelp
I tried to fill my cars up today but for some reason there was yellow tape blocking half the lot off? I hope they didn't have a fuel spill or something. I tried to go in and ask if I could get fuel but the person at the door said she was the manager was very rude and short. Defiantly won't be buying fuel or food from them anymore
google avatar

Jodie C.

Yelp
Great Wawa! Big coffee area! Very open and very clean. Very nice lady at check out! Gas prices seemed comparable to home. Not bad.
google avatar

Rick R.

Yelp
24 hours, year round. Always pleasant service despite the crowd or time of day.

Kristin S.

Yelp
Great gas station. Never too busy. Went twice, tried their iced coffee before driving home at 5 am and it was so good and fresh! They had a promotion going on medium coffee any flavor 1.99. Varies creamers and coffee flavors. Very clean and lots of variety of snacks and drinks.

Matthew H.

Yelp
Don't order a salad on the touch screens. No one will make it until you wait 20 minutes and then inquire.

Dave F.

Yelp
Love this place. Good food, reasonable prices and good customer service. Only problem is that it's always crowded.
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
i mean this is just a typical wawa lol.... but sure ill give it 5 stars its just like every other one i have been too... busy, clean with a wide array of things to choose from! the food was good, the drinks were great. The staff was friendly... could not ask for more
google avatar

Mattie A.

Yelp
Got friend a sandwich very fast even though it was pretty crowded, and they have Old Bay chips there! I thought that was awesome - never seen Old Bay flavored chips before. Wawa is my favorite gas station market of all time and this one is just fine - convenient and quick - no complaints.
google avatar

Yelp
Their sandwiches are as good as any WaWa sandwich (I will point out here that I love their sandwiches). However, it somehow managed to take them over 20 minutes to make a cheese sandwich for my girlfriend's daughter. My girlfriend and I both managed to get our sandwiches within the first 5-10 minutes, but the easiest sandwich in the world took over 20 minutes. Sure, there were 30 people in there, but how did we get ours so quickly? Did they go out and buy fresh cheese at the local market? I'm not even sure. This place is terrible at cheese subs. Don't bother with them if you want just cheese and some veggies!
google avatar

Derek S.

Yelp
Stopped here to get gas before we left Ocean City. We ended stopping inside to get something to eat. Inside was clean and pretty big with a place to get food made to order. I got a bacon and egg wrap which ended up being pretty good. The price on the food was average. This Wawa was a good place to stop fill up and get something to eat.

Yelp
Usually pretty good and it's what I grew up on living in PA. Sometimes the staff has a 'tude going on in the summer but overall it is good and the food is as good or better than any other Wawa. I think the appeal for Wawa hoagies is that it is about $5 for a large but I liked when they used Amoroso's rolls, I don't care much for the "fresh baked" ones. If they are going to do fresh baked they should talk to Primo Hoagies, they are really good rolls.
