Since 1971, this Main Street diner has served hefty breakfasts to generations of locals. Noted by the Los Angeles Times and celebrated by The Signal, its no-fuss griddle culture is pure Santa Clarita tradition.

Stopped here on my way to six flags. Really old school cafe that took me back to being a kid! Food was incredible value and tasted amazing! Best pancakes I've ever had

This diner is a small cute spot on Main the portions are very good these pancakes barely fit in the to go box there's outdoor seating and a wait list for tables as their is limited seating indoors also counter seating available the staff seemed to work closely with each other completing service they also followed up on the close to see if their guests needed anything more to go nice touch will post updates as I can't wait to try more from this spot!

Great little diner on Main Street in Old Town Newhall. All kinds of old license plates on the walls and other cool old signs. Prices & serving sizes were great with a super friendly staff! The waitress told me the building it is in used to be an ice cream parlor and there is a section of the original bar counter top and stools still in use! Highly recommend checking this place out if you are in the area.

Stopped in at Waystation for breakfast and it did not disappoint. Ordered the two-egg combo with hash browns and bacon—and everything was on point. The bacon slices are huge, thick, and perfectly crispy. Hash browns had that golden crunch, and the eggs were cooked exactly how I asked. Then came the pancakes—massive, fluffy, and delicious. One could easily feed two people, but I powered through. Definitely the highlight of the meal. Also had the fresh-squeezed orange juice, and you can taste the difference—ice cold and super refreshing. Great service, solid portions, and prices that make it worth every bite. If you’re hungry and want a classic, no-fail breakfast, Waystation is the spot.

Google
The Way Station Coffee Shop in Newhall is an old-style diner with consistent reasonably priced food and a bottomless cup of good coffee. The portions are generous and the pancakes won't disappoint! Sometimes it's difficult to find a place that opens early, Way Station does, keep in mind they shutter on Tuesdays. A local place you must try for breakfast or lunch.

Google
My rating may be higher than this place deserves due to the nostalgia I felt walking into Way Station. With its long counter and single row of tables, it brought me back to the cafes of my youth. Resembling a set from a Cohen Brothers movie, you're transported back in time by the roadside cafe decor and the offer of a cup of coffee as soon as you sit down. I enjoy sitting at the counter and absorbing the atmosphere. I imagine the only difference between now and 40 years ago is the lack of ashtrays. The food is excellent and served quickly even though the cook is doing it all on a single grill. If you want an old school experience you have to visit. Try the Thursday special!

Way Station is located in a cute area just off Main Street. The area is perhaps the best thing about Way Station. My wife and I went (party of two) and there was a 40 minute wait on a Saturday morning. That actually made us a bit excited (long wait = high demand = good food). Unfortunately, they have an archaic method of keeping track of the wait list by reading off the list and announcing it so you can’t go shop around while waiting because you’re not sure where you are on the list. When called in, the atmosphere was fun and nostalgic with license plates and old famous people posted around the restaurant. The staff were really helpful and fast but the food took longer than expected. (That’s most likely why the wait was so long.) And when the food arrived, it was either over done (I.e., eggs and bacon) or underdone (I.e., the hash-browns). The coffee was not great either, like Maxwell house meets Folgers. Finally, the price was very reasonable and the menu was not grandiose. They had the essentials but not much else. The best I could describe it would be that most people probably go for nostalgia, not for food.

Google
The pancakes were amazing, and you can definitely order off the menu but be prepared to pay extra for everything. Had two eggs, hashbrowns and two pancakes plus an iced tea, and it was $20. We were there on a Friday morning and it was consistently busy all morning, so maybe that was why the staff was all little on the cranky side. Maybe it was just a bad day. I would go back for the food, although I thought that for pancakes, it was a bit expensive, but the portions were large and the food was good.

Yelp
We love the way station. Tito, Melissa and Stephanie always make us feel welcome. Tito always remembers our order and we love hearing about his adventures. If you want great food, old charm and a staff that makes it feel like home you gotta give this place your attention. And the ambiance is very welcoming.

Yelp
My husband and I came in this morning to a restaurant that was half empty. It was slow enough that the waitresses were standing around chatting. We were told to sit anywhere, which was all fine. Our waitress took our drink and food order, but after that we hardly saw her. The only other time she came by was to bring a coffee refill that spilled across the table, wetting our napkins and receipt. She didn't acknowledge the spill, and only one of our two cups were refilled. We were handed the check at the same time our food arrived. While waiting for our food, we watched the waitress bring in two more parties. She took their orders, kept their coffees filled, and they even received (both) their meals before us. The busboy--who was kind and attentive--was the one who eventually brought our food and coffee, our waitress was busy eating at the counter. What struck us most: we were the only Hispanic customers in the restaurant, and the only person who gave us decent service was the Hispanic busboy. The contrast was hard to ignore. We paid our bill but ended up throwing the food away on our way out. Sadly, this was an incredibly disappointing and uncomfortable experience. I've been in this city for 45 years and have never received this type of treatment. I will not be back.

Yelp

Yelp
Something was wrong with the way my meal was prepared. Right after I left, I had to make a few bathroom breaks - I know TMI. I was looking forward to a small cafe with good coffee, cheap food. I ordered the sirloin steak with eggs and hashbrowns. I ate only the steak and eggs, then left. Not too long after, I was queasy and very uneasy. This will be one of my few (less than 5) of 300+ reviews to rate a 1-star. The service was nothing special. A "How ya doing today?" Or, "welcome" would've been nice. This place can you some love. Fresh paint...sometimes less is more type theme. Glad I came here, now I know.
google avatar

J B.

Yelp
Five stars for the old-fashioned ambiance and quick friendly service! Food leaves a little bit more to be desired but maybe I ordered wrong. The hashbrowns tasted more like mashed potatoes. Generous portions though! Worth another try if I were in the area.

Yelp
This place is a Santa Clarita Valley staple. Original breakfast! Doesn't get better than this. If you go Order the Kris special, it's the best on the menu u in my opinion. Enjoy the good vibes and scenery inside. Service is great as well, and the staff doesn't change much, so if you're a regular they will know you!

Yelp
Breakfast always is a must here, especially with Tito as your server. the food is always tasty and comes out in a timely manner. Sitting inside is nice especially with their vintage look and outside is great for bigger parties.

Yelp
Great food and the best people! Shout out to Vicky and Tito! Best place to eat on Main St.

Yelp
This is what a family diner should be. A lovely lady ,Melissa, one of the owners told me the place is know for their breakfast and they should be.Hash browns perfect ,Ham steak, moist but grilled, eggs as ordered If you ever find yourself in Newhall this place is a must

Yelp
I came here with a group on a Memorial Day so they had to split us up, which we were okay with. I sat at one of the outside tables with three others from my group. The service was great as they got to us within a minute after we sat down. I had the Kris, which was made up of eggs on an English muffin, a choice of chicken or sausage gravy, and sausage or bacon. I had the sausage gravy and sausage links. I also had iced tea and they were great in refilling it. The food was great also. I will definitely stop by again if the occasion calls for it.

Yelp
Love going back here and it still looks like I remember as a kid in the 70's! It's like a delicious Time Machine. The food is good and they have my favorite hash browns of all time. Service is fast and friendly. No frills perfection!
google avatar

Shauna S.

Yelp
I got the corned beef hash with "hash browns" and eggs. It was fine. The hash browns if I can even call them that had No flavor at all and were complete mush. The service was just okay
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
Loved the OJ! It tasted fresh squeezed. Good portion serving ratio. Very affordable. There is a decent wait time on the weekends. The pancakes were good but nothing special. I can say the same for the sausage. Parking can be found on the street or the parking structure diagonal from this restaurant. I'll go back and order something different.
google avatar

Yelp
Way Station is a simple, no frills little corner diner, but what they do, they do right. The menu is a little bit limited, but if you're a fan of breakfast food, you're bound to find something you'll like. The corned beef hash was really good (order it extra crispy), great french toast, humongous pancakes. Real simple, but real good. The servers always have their hands full, but are courteous and patient. If you're wanting a bougie brunch, yea this probably ain't for you.

Yelp
My family went for Mother's Day and the hostess was very accommodating for our party size! Overall service was very attentive and the food is good and priced reasonably!

Yelp
I've been going here for years. Good coffee. I like their eggs. Friendly staff. Good place to eat.

Yelp
This place was recommended to me and we gave it a try this morning. Breakfast was great! The best, and largest, pancake I have ever eaten. We loved the food and the people were all genuine and friendly. The wait staff welcomed familiar customers by first names which tells me they are regulars who love the place. The only negative for me was that we sat at the back counter because there was a long wait for tables and it was very hot. I was sweating and felt uncomfortable. We were right in front of the grill which explains the heat, but it was fun to watch the cooks...man they work hard! This lovely local place is a must visit...just try to avoid the back counter. I highly recommend.

Jamie C.

Yelp
Amazing prices are very decent and I love how it has a diner feel! Everyone is very welcoming. Will visit again.

Yelp
There are restaurants with a million options (talking about you, Cheesecake Factory).. and then there's Way station, a landmark of a diner (in Old Town Newhall in the SCV) since opening for business in February 1971. Their menu is limited and has not changed much, yet there is always a wait to dine in and locals are constantly coming back for their all day breakfast options. They must have figured something out successfully if around 900 pounds of coffee and thirty dozen eggs are used a week, amirite?! Also, if you happen to forget to bring your smartphone, there's license plates from all over the world mounted on the interior walls to doom scroll through

Yelp
Food is delicious, the portions are just perfect and the price is fair. Service is pretty quick and servers are very nice and friendly. The place is small but its decorated pretty cool. But it's no issue!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a tasty coffee shop. We ordered the already delicious hashbrowns extra crispy and were not disappointed. We have gone back and are happy we so every time.

Yelp
I was excited to try Way Station...a classic diner, very good prices, and just basic breakfast food, nothing fancy....just what you need every now and then! Unfortunately, my excitement to be here wasn't matched with the experience provided. I came with my son and we were seated fairly quickly. Outside tables were available too (though it was a little chilly for our tastes so we opted for inside.) There's a big sign that says "wear a mask" at the front door and the staff who greeted us and took our order were all masked. I had coffee and my son had lemonade. He liked the lemonade...generous pour with a full, separate cup of ice. The coffee was, at best, browned water...This is the lowest possible standard for diner coffee...Warm? Yes. In a nice mug? Yes. Brown? Yes. Any flavor? None at all. A breakfast place, to be at all legitimate has to have good coffee. The coffee here is not good. While sipping it I noticed neither of the cooks was wearing their masks properly. One had it around his chin with both his nose and mouth exposed. The other only had his mouth covered with his nose exposed. The first one had no gloves of any kind on and I saw him touch his mouth with his hand, then reach down to put food on a plate. He was also using his bare hand to add cheese to the dish. I understand different people have different preferences and comfort levels when it comes to health and safety...but it's literally the law of the land that food workers have to wear masks. In the midst of a global pandemic that has killed almost a million people, there's no excuse whatsoever for a cook to not be wearing a mask while preparing food. Not to mention touching his face and then plating the food. As much as I appreciate a classic diner, a dingy one even, I felt like I was taking a risk by eating food they would serve here. We left some money on the table for the drinks and informed our server we wouldn't be able to stay and left. I can't imagine ever setting foot in Way Station again after witnessing such flagrant disregard for mandatory health protocols. (Not to mention the lack of common sense on display by the cooks.)

Yelp
100% love this place. Me and my sister came about a month ago and I forgot to write a review. I got the Kris Special which came with an English Muffin, 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, hashbrowns, and smothered in sausage or chicken gravy. We will go again and I will probably get this again.

Yelp
It's surprising to me that I've never reviewed Way Station before... I have eaten here dozens of times over the years and was a regular pre-covid. This place is the epitome of what a greasy spoon diner that serves big comfort food should be. The ambiance with the old seating and all of the antique signs and license plates give the place a perfect rustic feel that I think adds to the experience. There are a lot of reviewers here that complain about the wait, but if you know the place, unless you want to sit at the counter, you will usually need to wait. Just accept that. Their hashbrowns may be the best I've ever had anywhere. I always get them well done so they're extra crispy. I love the Chris and Thursday specials. If you're hungry, go with the Chris special. The coffee here is marginal at best, unfortunately, but the OJ is always a good option. Understanding this is a true "greasy spoon," and the fact that the kitchen is tiny, the 3 star rating is due to concerns with basic food handling. The last couple of times here sitting at the counter, we have noticed some examples of cross contamination in the kitchen area. A couple of examples would be the guy who is cooking eggs is breaking eggs with bare hands and then right away using the same bare hands to put raw onions on top of someone's bowl of chili. Or, placing a handwritten food ticket on the plate, tucked underneath someone's pancake. I do love this place. I have always been happy with the service, and the breakfasts are worth trying. I also know they've lost some key people the last several years. I wish the Way Station well and hope I can bring them up to 5 stars with a future visit. 5 stars is where they should be.

Yelp
This place is the best breakfast in Santa Clarita. Best hash browns I've ever had, and you cannot beat the prices! Service is great as well!

Yelp
Old school breakfast diner. This is a no frills, home style kind of greasy spoon place where you pretty much know exactly what you're getting. Come early if you want to be seated right away. My friend has had everything on the menu and says it's all good. This time she had the Kris special with sausage gravy and I had the corned beef hash (3/5). Let's just say we both did well with our respective plates. While the corned beef was from a can it was cooked crispy on the griddle so I don't have any complaints. My eggs were cooked perfectly. Portions are ample and "stick to your ribs" so come hungry. Service was attentive and friendly. While they weren't crazy busy at 7a on a Sunday, apparently the lines can be very long. Parking is available on the street and in a small lot in back. This is a quaint small town place that is timeless. I'd consider returning if in the area. LOCATION: 4/5 FOOD: 3/5 SERVICE: 4/5 VALUE: 4/5 AMBIANCE: 4/5 PET FRIENDLY: outside tables CLEANLINESS: 3/5 PARKING: 3/5

Yelp
The worst food I have ever had, weird flavor like old food oil & frozen hashbrowns couldn't take more than 2 bites & when the bill comes random charges & if you pay with card another charge! Would not recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
I hadn't been to Way Station in years, but my gal thought we might try it, again, just to see. Where does one begin? The cafe is nothing to write home about--- and looks as if there has been no upgrade since it opened decades ago; it just appeared dirty and untidy. Service was unfriendly and spotty, and after we were seated, we waited a half hour for our food. I ordered the French Toast; it came lathered with what wouldn't pass for butter, blindfolded, and was absolutely tasteless. The table syrup didn't help; it was tasteless, too. I had half a slice and pushed it away. I must say, with doubt, this was absolutely the worst French Toast I have ever ordered in a restaurant The coffee was generic and bitter. My gal had the eggs, potatoes, bacon, some of which she gave to me. The bacon was crisp, and that's about the only memorable thing. A simple breakfast? The bill was $28. What an incredible amount for such poor food, poor atmosphere, poor service. Well, Way Station, we won't be back.

Yelp
First time back since the pandemic. We took our boys out to breakfast to enjoy food that we have enjoyed for years. There was a wait but it went quickly. Staff are always friendly and quick with service. Tito helped us out this time. They have the system down and we alwaus love to check out the license plates hamging on the walls. I think they have streamlined the menu options but that is fine with me since they have my regular! I and one of my boys had the Kris special with bacon and sausage gravy and hashbrowns. So good. My husband and my other son got the chicken fried steak with gravy and hashbrowns. Had a bite and it was yummy also. I wish the hashbrowns were a little crisper but they were still good smothered in gravy. A staple of Main St. I am so glad they are still around.
google avatar

Kimberly C.

Yelp
Saw this place on my way to the Farmers Market & thought it was a cute place for brunch, but the service was awful. We were sat pretty quickly but were forgotten about even quicker. We had our drinks brought out after only a few minutes, but the coffee was already cold & they didn't bring any creamer. Then, after that, nobody came to check on us, meanwhile, she was chatting with the table directly across from us. The server looked at us several times but didn't offer any help. After waiting 20 minutes, I went inside to pay for the shitty coffee with no cream & they acted surprised that we didn't want to eat there. I do not recommend.

Yelp
I don't know how this place doesn't have better reviews! First time here.. walked in sat at the counter immediately was greeted by a young gentleman who offered a beverage.. made me a fresh pot of decaf which I appreciated. This is place has an old feel to it which I love and has been around for years! I love small diners that our run by older people it just has a special cozy feel to it. Yelp
My girlfriend and I met her brother and wife here for breakfast. This was my first time and so glad that I came! It's a small coffee shop with vintage signs, license plates on the walls. Good hearty food! It's a must if you can stop in!!!

John D.

Yelp
A part of Newhall history Been coming here for years A very friendly staff And good food at a reasonable price

Simon H.

Yelp
Been coming here since the 1980's. Simple comfort food from a place that is a staple of the SCV. So glad it has survived and is part of the downtown Main Street Newhall redevelopment. Came here with my daughters after a soccer game. They enjoyed the french toast and chili browns. I got my favorite item, The kris special. 2 eggs over english muffins, sausage gravy, bacon and hash browns. I must say their hash browns are the best! I hope this place stays around for a long time.
google avatar

Yelp
Only came cause the review about the country fried steak, I'll tell you what you can feed that guy a turd smothered in gravy. That being said food was not very good Good service and cool atmosphere

Nan O.

Yelp
We haven't been to here in a bit, but happy we came for breakfast early this morning. Tito always welcoming and friendly. Great service. They have the best pancakes and we love the chili browns. Love the license plates and old pics on the walls. We've been coming to Way Station for over 30 years and can't wait to come back. Thank you Tito for always being so kind and welcoming!

Yelp
Classic good ol American breakfast spot!! Been coming here for a while. Love it !! Best service, got fresh food , clean , and the staff is awesome!!!

Yelp
We stopped at The Way Station after our grandson's soccer game. It was busy, so we actually sat outside which worked out. I had the Thursday special which is offered daily! I had the eggs over east, bacon and the pancake that was the size of a dinner plate! Everything was tasty and served hot. The pancake was light and fluffy. Fortunately my grandson shared the pancake with me since I certainly couldn't finish it. The service was a little slow - I think because it was busy and we were a party of 7.

Jody E.

Yelp
Now I remember why I haven't been here in 10 years. Surly waitress who got my order wrong and when I mentioned it, just shrugged her shoulders. Eventually got my food. Very bland, sub-average, and about twice what it should have been price-wise. Won't be back. Sad.
google avatar

Lulus P.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Simple is sometimes the way to go ! Service is friendly and fast. Cozy and comfy spot! Loved the vintage license plate decor.
google avatar

Anna F.

Yelp
A very popular spot for the locals, and it's easy to see why! You feel like you are transported to a different time, a different era. They have license plates on display from multiple states and the overall look & feel is nostalgic. We were seated immediately, although the cushion in the booth was a bit uncomfortable. Just an old school diner with its quirks. The prices here are reasonable and the portions are good! Loved the coffee. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
I like to try new places, and this one is one of my favorites, food is delicious and good portion

Bob B.

Yelp
Customer service is not at the top of their list. Which is disappointing because I've eaten here several times before. Most of the food is decent but there's not a big selection. Today I decided to try the 2 pork chops and eggs. Pork chops were so overcooked, they tasted like leather. I actually had trouble just cutting them with the knife. Completely dry, very little seasoning. I only ate half of one. When I complained to the waiter, he told me "Well, that's the way they always cook them. Next time be sure to tell them you don't want them that well done." Never offered to replace them or take them off the bill. Well Don't worry, not gonna be a next time. Plenty of restaurants in the area, offer better service and better food.

Jenny D.

Yelp
The best food and the best service. Little diners are my favorite and for me it's a staple diner for my hometown.
google avatar

Christine R.

Yelp
Best greasy spoon in the world. Fresh food, excellent prices, attentive service. I recommend the Kris Special. It's unique, filling and delicious. Chili browns are a favorite and my friends who eat pancakes adore the huge ones they serve here. Service is great. People that work here have been here forever and the know what's up!!

Yelp
We tried this Way station for breakfast today. To be honest the place needs a little remodeling, but the food doesn't need any changes. The staff is amazing and the food is so damn delicious! Everything was cooked the way we ordered and the service was right on point. They made sure that we were happy and comfortable. I also want to mention that the price was very affordable for an amazing breakfast dish combo. I highly reccomend trying them out. I will definitely be back for some more delicious dishes. Thank you Way station! Price $ Taste 100% Service 110%

Yelp
The food is great and you can't beat the prices! Great coffee and service. My favorite place for breakfast!

Yelp
The staff was hustling and really trying- but Im not in a big hurry to return here. A busy Sunday in the Newhall/Valencia area! We were looking for brunch about noon and very place is packed! We decided to dine at Way Station because it's a cute diner on-the corner with some outdoor seating. We were Quotes's 30 min wait- but it was more like 15. The servers were slammed! But doing their best to keep up. Wait times for food and beverages were long. Totally understand this and forgive this a especially in this post- covid world. My biggest complaint is that the food just wasn't great. I was starving, and ate everything- but it wasn't great. I got biscuits and gravy with over easy eggs after a local told me they were known for this. The gravy wasn't very flavorful, and neither were the biscuits. It also came with a slab of hash browns which were soft, shredded potatoes that were way under-seasoned. I dined with a 2 friends. One a 14-year old boy who ordered the burger and loved it. He also got the hash browns as a side and dumped a ton of salt on them-trying to add flavor. My friend ordered the chicken fried steak with gravy. The same, bland gravy I got. The steak was extremely thin and rubbery. She couldn't cut through it. And the fried coating was not crispy. Just soggy, and again, bland. I would give them another try, but maybe at a slower time.

Yelp
Ate at the Way Station this mornings and the way I saw the ice handled was gross. Someone delivered 4 very large bags of ice, and placed the bags on the VERY dirty kitchen floor. Then one of the bus boys lifted all four bags and placed them into the ice cooler. So I thought -- okay, gross, they put the dirty bags in a cooler, but (I thought) I guess it's okay if they just rip open the tops of the bag and scoop the ice out... But just then, the bus boy started opening the bags and pouring them into said cooler where the floor dirty bags were still sitting and touching the cooler and the now-poured-out ice. Only then did I realize that the ice in my water glass was probably contaminated with yesterday's dirty floor. I wanted to retch. I'll never go back.
