4/5 ⭐️ Waya Japanese Izakaya is a hidden gem in Dallas! The ambiance is cozy and authentic—perfect for a chill night out or a casual dinner with friends. The menu has a great variety of small plates, and the flavors really shine, especially in the skewers and sashimi. The karaage was crispy and flavorful, and the spicy miso ramen had a great depth of flavor. Service was friendly, though it got a little slow during the dinner rush. Still, the staff was polite and helpful with recommendations. Overall, a solid spot for Japanese comfort food. I’ll definitely be back to try more dishes and maybe explore their drink menu a bit more next time! Instagram: im_alwayshungryy

Google
We got the pork gyosas as an appetizer, tonkatsu ramen, the shoyu chicken and the tereyaki chicken bowl and for dessert we shared the coffee jelly and the crepe. Everything was absolutely delicious 😋

I wanted to try a new ramen spot so I came here after seeing the reviews. Walking in it’s a tiny area but had a cozy warm vibe & the Japanese decor gave it an Asian flair that was pleasing to the senses. I ordered the veggie gyoza and spicy Dan Dan ramen. Both were served with an eye catching presentation and were very rich in flavor. I will be coming back here to try some new dishes.

This was my first time visiting this restaurant, and I was really impressed. Many of the items we tried were delicious. The spicy edamame had a nice kick and was very tasty. It was my first time trying yakisoba, and I couldn't believe how flavorful it was. This experience reminded me of how wonderful Japanese food can be. Even though the restaurant was quite busy, the staff was excellent and attentive.

Ok let’s start with the good. The interior was really cool and once I got the food it was alright. However the main issue arose from the fact that it took 50 minutes for the food to come out and when it came out they forgot to give my family an order of dumplings(they did give us free dumplings) and by the time we got the dumplings everyone had already finished eating. I will give the restaurant grace on the fact that it was mildy busy and there looked to be 1 waiter and 1 cool. However my family was the 3rd group to order and everyone in the restaurant got their food before we did. We almost walked out because we had no clue if we would ever get our food. And when the food came out it was solid but definitely not worth the wait. I ordered the black tonkatsu ramen and again it was fine but I have definitely had better ramen that did not take nearly as long to get. The reason this isn’t a 1 star is the waitstaff seem to be trying their best and when we got the food it was decent but personally I would not bring my family back here.

Google
My wife and I decided to go here for the first time to celebrate Valentines Day. My biggest complaint is that we didn’t come here sooner. The spicy dumplings were absolutely divine. We tried the Miso and DanDan ramen, both were perfectly spicy and full of flavor. The wait staff was courteous and helpful, and the cooks were engaging and a ton of fun to watch. The restaurant is tiny, so expect a wait, but I promise it is worth every second. We will be back many times in the future!

Google
Food was sooo good. Got 3 slices of pork with the Tonkotsu ramen. The Gyudon Bowl was delicious! Definitely recommend visiting if you're in the area

Google
First time here trying Ramen with my family, I got the tomato Ramen pictured, husband got chicken and kids got chicken no toppings. Everything was great even our children said it was better than pho. Very cozy atmosphere. (My 10 year old daughter also wanted to leave a review.) "Better then cup Ramen. Actually tastes great."

Yelp
WOW!! I eat ramen often, everywhere I travel. This is hands down the best ramen I've had. I can't critique it, it's that good. The service was excellent and everything I ordered was absolutely top notch. I'm only in Dallas for a couple days but I might be eating here again before I go. The owner is also exceptional-- he gave us a free snack to try, and the waitress seared it at the table with a blow torch. Want to support a worthy small business? Give this one a try!

Yelp
Had a really good bowl of spicy tonkatsu and some gyoza for a late lunch. Broth was perfect and flavorful. Friendly and efficient service. Trendy and clean dining area. I will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Tasty ramen but I don't know if it was worth waiting almost an hour for. While we were waiting for food it was difficult to get the host's attention for basic things like water. It ended up being a stressful meal because we were running on a time crunch. I usually don't expect ramen to take so long because all the ingredients are usually prepared ahead of time and the wait is for the assembly. And not getting any updates from the staff was a bit of a let down. The ramen was tasty, though, and I certainly recommend for those who are in the area and want a solid, comforting meal. Just expect to be killing some time.

Yelp
Love how small and quaint this ramen shop is. The flavor on the tomato ramen and black garlic ramen are both great and noodles were perfectly done. Gyoza were delicious. Ways buns were a little dry and needed some dipping sauce, but generously filled. Enjoyed checking this place out and understand why then made D's best ramen list.
google avatar

Niraja S.

Yelp
This is the best ramen I've had so far in Dallas! The broth was actually spicy, and there was a generous amount of char siu pork. I appreciated the variety between bar seating and regular table seating. I came for lunch on a Sunday and there was no wait, whereas for dinner on Friday there was a line out the door
google avatar

Lumaris C.

Yelp
My go-to place in Dallas for Ramen! Food is always excellent. It can get packed as it is a small space but love how private it can still feel. Loved their coffee jelly! It is a must-try if you are a coffee lover like me.
google avatar

Yelp
Truly authentic Japanese ramen!!! Food was delicious. Space is kind of small. There is usually a wait, but it is totally worth it. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Food is so delish! Ramen is out of this world. Eveeything I order is really good and worth every penny.

Yelp
Went in on a whim for a late dinner and it was great. Only thing that was annoying was the workers not saying anything to us until some seats were ready. They were acting like we were not standing in the restaurant. It was a bit off putting but the food made up for it haha.
google avatar

Ancelin G.

Yelp
The ramen here was full of flavor! I ordered the spicy tonkatsu, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The interior of this restaurant is smaller so on the weekends, do expect a small wait to get inside. I would definitely come back here, and I recommend this place do all ramen lovers!

Mark

Yelp
Excellent Ramen, best I had since being in Japan, can't wait to go back and try their other dishes.

Yelp
The BEST ramen in Dallas. & the spicy pork gyoza is soooo good too. I am a frequent customer & always get the chili tomato ramen & it never disappoints. The staff is also incredibly kind and will answer any questions even if it's super busy.
google avatar

Hannah D.

Yelp
Good and quick service, delicious ramen and gyoza! One of our favorite ramen spots in Dallas! The staff is attentive with quick service. Always a good place for a Japanese beer with some flavorful ramen! We have sat at the bar but there are also plenty of tables for bigger groups.
google avatar

Yelp
OMG soooooo good! It's a pretty tiny place but didn't wait long for seating. I love the vibe! Everything we ordered was delicious. I really enjoyed the pork dumplings that had a little kick but not too bad. The spicy edamame was killing me... haha was trying to get the kick to subside but it wasn't working until the ramen came. The ramen was so good, I was impressed!!! Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Xochit C.

Yelp
The spicy pork dumplings - incredible but the sauce on top was more sweet than spicy. I didn't mind it at all. Ramen was good, if you think a thicker, creamier broth, then this is a good place.. but it felt a little heavy for me that day. Service was great!
google avatar

Yelp
Easily would say this is the best ramen spot in Dallas. The food was amazing, flavors were at an 11/10. Chefs were right in front of us and so sweet the whole time! The price for quality/quantity ratio is amazing. The best best best. Wow. Monday night had no wait, but I wouldn't be surprised if other nights has quite a wait with how amazing this place is. We ordered the Spicy Edamame, Premium Spicy Miso (yellow broth picture), and the Spicy Black Tonkotsu.
google avatar

Jessie C.

Yelp
I got here right when it opened for dinner around 5. I rec this since it gets packed fast and with its limited seating- wait times can reach over an hour. The inside was clean and imitates a Japanese ramen shop. The service was fast and helpful with recommendations. I went with their suggestion of the porkrib tonkotsu ramen ($19) that's only available for dinner. The broth was so rich and the meat portion was huge and tender!! I liked it more than I expected to. My friend got the beef gyudon bowl and the chicken shoyu ramen. They said both were good and I don't doubt that. Solid ramen place in the Dallas area so be prepared to either wait or come early! It's very popular and with good reason.
google avatar

Michaela P.

Yelp
Hmmm...all the ramen, none of the hype. Kind of a hole in the wall in a strip mall. Great reviews are well deserved. This is really good ramen! Spicy tonkotsu is the bomb! Miso is good as well. Get the spicy edamame app. Beer and sake. Great service. Great prices. Great food. No wait!!! I'm all in!

Yelp
AMAZING RAMEN, great vibes on the inside, my go too rainy day or post night out meal!

Yelp
Don't see myself coming back here. Only rating this 3 stars because our waitress was sweet. The restaurant didn't have running AC and it was extremely hot. I was drenched in sweat when I left. I split the salmon onigiri with my boyfriend and it was very disappointing. Save yourself the trouble-it's mostly rice. The only salmon is crumbled on top. The matcha beer was okay. It was a cool experience trying a new beer. The lychee drink was good. The dipping ramen was mediocre at best, definitely not like any dipping ramen I've ever tried. It looked like they just put regular ramen noodles in the bowl and gave me regular broth. I'm used to dipping ramen having thicker noodles and broth. Also the meat was not very good, it was kind of hard to chew. Unfortunately based on our experience here neither my friends or I will be returning. We really wanted to like this place.

Rachel T.

Yelp
It was not from hunger that this ramen hit the spot with a bullseye. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Bee B.

Yelp
The moment I stepped in, they all had a smile and said hello when walking inside, when eating my food they help use chop sticks because I wasn't sure how to use them they came around a few times and ask how I was doing and if I needed anything , The food was delicious and made me full fast and I had to take it home and eat the rest the next day The place was very clean and calm perfect for just eating by yourself or with friends

Yelp
I will be back to WAYA! I ordered to go (not recommended on their website for freshness reasons) but it was still delicious. I ordered the Spicy Black Tonkotsu and WAYA buns. Both were so so good. It was easy to order online. It estimated 40 minutes for pick up but I showed up about 30 minutes after placing the order and it was ready. It is a small and intimate space but I will definitely be back.

Rickie S.

Yelp
I'd give this a three and a half if I could. I really really wanted to love this place and I'm not completely counting it out yet. My first impression of this place was how quaint the spot was, which I loved. Once I got further in though it honestly smelled very musty and was dirty. Went to the restroom and really didn't want to touch anything. At this point I expected the food to be stellar because that's where places usually makeup if they have this environment. The food was just okay in my opinion. Gyoza was good thanks to the more so sweet than spicy topping you get with the spicy option. Ramen was honestly a let down, random spinach could be left out. The taste was decent but I added the left over sauce from the gyoza and made it much better. I would give this place another try because I think maybe the spicy options are what make this place good. Service was great and attentive at least.

Yelp
Tried WAYA on a friend's recommendation and was very pleased. We arrived shortly after 7pm on a Thursday and were immediately seated at the bar. Hubby and I ordered the WAYA buns and a glass of sake. The buns were delicious and the sake was a surprisingly generous pour (not complaining!) For our main courses we both ordered the Tonkotsu Shoyu ramen- which was very good. Definitely try this place if you are looking for good ramen in a charming space.
google avatar

Lori G.

Yelp
Waya is a delicious ramen spot I go to on a regular basis. I throughly enjoy the options and being able to have veggie dumplings! The service is top notch I highly recommend this little spot. Not for big groups!

Carson S.

Yelp
This place is super chill and the ramen I ordered was excellent, probably the best I've ever had. East Dallas has all the cool spots and you can't tell me any different.
google avatar

Stephanie W.

Yelp
Delicious Japanese food here and quick service! Reminds me of some of the Japanese restaurants I went to in Tokyo. Bar style seating and cute decor. Great gyoza, ramen with so many options, and the millicrepe cake was a fantastic way to finish the meal! Japanese sodas and drinks are available here as well!
google avatar

Fatima C.

Yelp
This is my absolutely favorite ramen spot in Dallas. This location is bomb and very convenient for me! I've taken so many of my friends here and given so many food recommendations to this restaurant!! Wait time can be slow if they are crowded as it is a small place when waiting for a seat or waiting to order. The decor and seating arrangement is very typical to the ramen shops I've been to in NYC. The chicken shoyu ramen is my go-to! It is the most flavorful ramen you will have, and yes you can quote me lol. I've tried others in the area and this one does not compare. Obviously this is a shoyu based ramen so taste and body is different to other restaurants in the area so take note. There is parking all around the strip mall so it isn't tricky. You can park as far or close as you want. The staff are friendly and nice. They work a lot. I witnessed coming a few minutes till close the last time I dined. And although we had to wait and ended up being the last party for the night, they treated us in no rush and the quality of the ramen was still up to par!
google avatar

Angel M.

Yelp
This place is little not much seating but it's a great place to eat. The food is amazing love the spicy pot stickers. And it's usually one girl doing the service and she is great
google avatar

Lindsey C.

Yelp
All three of the ramen with meat tasted amazing! They all had lots of flavor and the meat was nice and tender. I was hesitant about trying the tomato ramen, but it tasted like spaghetti and I really liked it. Definitely something I'd order again when I go. My brother got the Yakisoba with chicken and he said it tasted pretty good and that the sauce on it gave it a sweet flavor. The Aburi Shimesaba is a lightly seared cured mackerel. They sear it right in front of you and it tasted much better than I expected it to! The pork gyoza was delicious! I loved the sauce that was provided to dip them in. It tasted great by itself, but dipping it in the sauce made it much more flavorful. The lime edamame was great - everyone really enjoyed it. Out of the two different Mochi ice cream flavors we got to try, I would say that I definitely enjoyed the strawberry one more. I also ordered the pineapple green tea (not pictured), and I highly recommend getting it - it's SO good! Overall, this is a great spot to go if you're craving ramen. They have plenty of options you can choose from. Also, the customer service was excellent and that's always a plus in my book.
google avatar

Lorenzo H.

Yelp
If great food, and a relaxed ambiance are your dining mission, WAYA is your place! This petite, no fuzz gem nestled in the heart of Lakewood is easy to miss, and often requires a wait to dine in, but it's worth every minute. For the quality of cuisine and presentation, I found the prices for everything from Ramen to other Japanese favorites quite reasonable. This is not the place to linger, especially if others are waiting, so be ready to keep eating, enjoy a glass or wine, Japanese beer or Sake, or pay your bill and go. You'll be glad you enjoyed the WAYA experience. I may be dining next to you. Xoxo Lorenzo!

Daniela T.

Yelp
Hidden spot. Delicious appetizers and mouthwatering ramen. Try their spicy gyoza! They have a variety of ramen but I went with the basic spicy Tonkotsu ramen. Next time I will try a different kind because they all look so tasty. The service was great, it can get kinda busy but they do their best to check up on you and make sure everything's alright. Perfect spot for a evening meal, to relax and enjoy some delicious ramen.
google avatar

Kendy L.

Yelp
Enjoyed spending time with friends at this small cozy Japanese establishment. Our waitress was fantastic. She really knew the menu and helped my friends choose their dishes. We had the salmon onigiri for our appetizer. The rice was pretty good but had very little salmon on it. There wasn't much taste from it. I had the tonkotsu ramen which looked very simple compared to what I usually get from other places. There was noodles, spinach, egg, and the bamboo shoots. The broth tasted perfect to me at least. Not too salty, not too bland. The chashu pork was tender and delicious. The portion I thought was on the small side but everything tasted good. I would definitely come back because of the service and the ambiance of the place. My friends thought their foods were good which makes me want to try them next time.
google avatar

Richard T.

Yelp
First time here. I was greeted by the door right away and asked where I want to be seated. I ordered the most popular Garlic Tonkotsu and suffice to say it was delicious. The right amount of rich and flavour. The only thing that would've made it perfect was if the portion was larger and more spice. I asked for spice, but didn't come through until I had to ask for the 2th time around. Other than that, it was a good experience.
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
Easily one of my favorite Japanese spots in Dallas! So far, I've tasted the gyoza, Waya buns, mackerel, Spicy Dan Dan, spicy black garlic tonkotsu ramen, and spicy curry ramen. The Waya buns were filled sweet and tender meat (pulled pork). Buns were a little stale, but the sauce and texture of the meat more than made up for it. The mackerel was tangy, yet sweet and full of flavor. Fishy in a good way. Would've been good with rice, however. If you want a show, your server toasts/cooks it in person, which is really cool (as you can see by the picture), and confirms you'll have it as fresh and warm as possible. The gyoza is standard fare, but comes with a crispy skin (likely the oiled batter from the pan) to cover it, which is aesthetically neat. The Spicy Dan Dan broth was thick and oily, very heavy and has enough of a kick to make you drink your water (but I'd pair it with a asahi beer, cold sake, or even a ramune). Noodles were soft rather than chewy but had substantial texture. Would strongly recommend mixing thoroughly before eating. The chef also knows ramen well; I judge good ramen places by how they can make their soft boiled eggs, and while mine was very slightly overboiled, I think it was near perfect. The Black garlic tonkotsu ramen was much lighter with a more liquid broth than the other ramen I've tried here. The flavor was smoky, almost bitter and concentrated at the bottom. Still scrumptious but again, make sure to stir well! The Spicy curry ramen was very hearty and heavy, almost thick enough to be considered a stew rather than a soup. It's not overly spicy, so even those sensitive to spice can probably stomach it, but obviously, it does have a kick. You can also ask for the spice on the side for most of their spice dishes. Staff were very friendly and helpful; you'll notice that the chef and host(ess) will both greet you when you come in and their attitudes are much more welcoming than other establishments. Their staff is very attentive and whenever I've asked for a takeout container (I've even asked for a container for a single gyoza), it's done with a smile, a napkin/utensil, and bag. Their plastic containers are reusable and fairly good quality too. Their customer service should not be overlooked. The food has always come out quickly whenever we visit. Parking was plentiful, since there's street parking at the front and rear of the restaurant. As an izakaya, it doesn't have much seating, so it's not ideal for parties larger than 4. Overall, if you're tired of reading, don't take my word for it. Just go and try it out for yourself. You'll find that, like me, you'll be a regular after a visit or two here!

Rebecca L.

Yelp
First time trying WAYA and I have to say it was amazing! I had the Spicy Pork Dumplings (more sweet than spicy) and the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen with a a Kirin of course. :) Staff was great, I wish I would have caught the waitress' name but she was very friendly and served with a smile.

Jimena T.

Yelp
El sabor es espectacular, el ambiente es cálido y el servicio es rápido. Tienen mucha variedad de comida
google avatar

Minly L.

Yelp
A pretty solid spot for ramen in Lakewood. We got seated pretty quickly and out food came out pretty fast. I would recommend this spot for a quick ramen fix, as it's not mind blowing but it does the job.
google avatar

Justin T.

Yelp
Hands down the best ramen in Dallas and it might even beat the ramen I had when I traveled to Japan! The place is somewhat of a hole in the wall, just a long bar and a couple of tables which resembles a traditional Japanese Izakaya. The ramen is extremely flavorful, the portions are extremely generous, and WAYA has yet to disappoint! Highly recommend the miso tonkotsu ramen, which is also great spicy but beware - they don't play around and it is quite hot! Also recommend the Matcha IPA from Kyoto which I have not seen anywhere else in the US - it is green and actually tastes like matcha!

Audra J.

Yelp
This place has the best ramen ever but the time estimates they give are always WAY off. Don't put in a pick up order and think the time given will be correct. Give it another 30 minutes

Bria N.

Yelp
The Black Tonkotsu Ramen pretty much just tasted like oil. The most flavorful part were the toppings and the noodles themselves. The broth was not very good at all.
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
This place is delicious! Great vibes when you walk in, service is awesome and food is 10/10! We will be back!

Yelp
Was visiting Dallas this weekend. We arrived in the late afternoon so we decided look up a restaurant nearby. Well WAYA popped up and had a 5 star rating. I read some of the reviews and almost everyone was saying how delicious it was. So we decided to visit. Well I can say I have been to quite a few restaurants serving ramen and pho . And this one one was the most disappointing. We ordered gyoza and spicy edamame for appetizers. Spicy edamame was drenched in the spicy sauce and I love spicy food but this was a bit to much. The gyoza was very good . The entree I ordered was the black tonkotsu ramen. Very dissatisfied with the ramen , meat was bland smoke flavor was also not very appeasing. There was so much oil in the Ramon that it was just too much to enjoy. Another issue that I noticed was the restaurant itself and it's employees. As we were seated at the end of the bar where the waitress's were coming out to serve the customers I was able to look into the kitchen area. What I saw was very disturbing. The two cooks working in the kitchen both had long hair that was not netted. The area that I could see behind the the bar was disgusting. I'm not sure how this place has passed any food inspection. I'm just in awe how this place received so many good reviews. Mayb they were having a bad night not sure but I know I will not be going back nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone I know . I apologize for the negative review but our experience was pretty bad .

Yelp
Waya is the best bowl of ramen in town but still average in terms of bowls across the country. I got the tonkatsu ramen with the pork rib and spicy shallot paste on the side. The broth is the deepest, richest one I have had so far in the DFW area. The pork rib was tender and delicious. I agree with what other people have said so far: it's not the best ramen out there, but it'll do the job. Here are my qualms about my experience: - When the bowl arrived in front of me, the broth was scalding enough to cause second-degree burns in my mouth and esophagus. When I got an extra side of noodles, those noodles were way too hot temperature-wise to immediately drop into my broth. I understand trying to get everything out of the kitchen as fast as possible, but in my opinion, you lose a taste of the meaty notes and richness of the broth when the soup is that scalding. - The noodles were overcooked both when the bowl came out and with the extra noodles ordered on the side. Probably because of the issue above. - The price. With the ramen I got + extra noodles + tip, the price came out to be $30. I have never paid $30 for ramen anywhere in the US. Not even in SF or NYC. If I'm paying that high of a price for ramen, I expect the best bowl of ramen of all time, which this ramen wasn't unfortunately. - I'm not too particular about the place not having AC, but the place was pretty stuffy especially when it's still 100 degrees at night. Things I would suggest to future customers: - Ask the server if you can get your ramen with the noodles separate from the broth. That way you can control the temp of the ramen when you eat it.

Yelp
Food is bomb. Service is always quick and on point. The atmosphere in WAYA is calm and intimate, I like that.

Yelp
Hidden gem in Lakewood. Some of the best ramen in DFW. Not a big place so come early or be prepared to wait, but the wait is worth it once you try the food.
