Google
A long overdue review for this gem of a lunch spot! Great food, great vibes, great service. I love the simple yet customizable menu that adds some autonomy to the work day. Thanks for serving up joy on our lunch breaks. Come try the food and come back for the excellent sauce selection!

Google
Food was exceptional! Very tasty and great portions! I had the chicken breast with half white rice/noodles & veggies! & I got a 2nd plate with white rice and spicy ginger beef! It did not disappoint at all! This def will be new go to spot in the neighborhood!

Google
Quality and hours have been hit and miss at this cart over the last several years, but I recently gave it another try and I was very impressed by the quality, quantity, and speed! The ginger beef was lean and tender, cooked to a perfect medium on the flat griddle. The texture of the rice and veggies was spot on, and a scoop of mac salad was a clutch addition (so glad I can eat that gluten!). There are plenty of lunch options within walking distance of this cart in Sellwood, but I think Wayhi is the best bang for your buck.

Google
This is a super cute, very well branded, food cart business in downtown sellwood area. Portion sizes for the price are quite good, food quality is pretty good, and the price value for what you get is also pretty good. Very reasonably priced food. I ordered teriyaki chicken with yakisoba noodles and grilled veggies. The chicken was white breast meat and was freshly grilled to order. This is a pretty awesome place to stop for lunch. The food is great for the price. Only bit of criticism is the chicken was slightly dry and the grilled veggies were mostly red cabbage and a little broccoli. Sauces are served on the side - and they are pretty on point tasty. Definitely make sure you get a cup or two of sauce. I definitely recommend this place. The gentleman who was cooking was the only staff person, and he was seamlessly helping customers providing excellent customer service, in between flipping meat and veggies on the grill. Definitely left him a good tip. If you're in the area, check this place out for sure!!

Google
Delicious rice and noodles, topped with beautifully cooked chicken and veggies with just the right amount of char. The self-service sauce selection is second to none (teriyaki, peanut, Sriracha, sweet chili, and others). Service was fast, quick, and neighborly!

Google
Five star bento cart!! very friendly in a primo location

Google
The guy serving the food is a total jerk. My hubby ordered food on grub hub, drove all the way there and the guy said he had shut off online orders . When he was shown the order and that we were charged, he could care less. He offered no refund or solution. I had to contact grub hub to get refunded with zero apology or anything from him. He acted annoyed as if it’s our fault that the order went through. Used to come all the time, but never again .

Google
Holy goodness!! The veggies were perfectly cooked and the chicken thighs were so juicy. The place was slammed with orders but the owner got food out quick without skimping on quality. Don’t sleep on this Sellwood gem

Yelp
This place is wonderful. The owners are very friendly and nice! I come here probably 2-3 times a week, basically whenever I'm in the area, and I never get sick of it. I get the tofu with noodles and rice instead of veggies. I did try the veggies once but they were cut really big so it was kind of hard to eat. The owner makes the best tofu.. like it's the most flavorful tofu I have ever had and I eat a lot of tofu. It does not taste as flavorful when some of the staff makes it, but it's still good.. I would definitely pay 10-12 dollars for the portion sizes and the amazing sauces that they have on the side. The honey garlic is my favorite. If they opened a restaurant I could see myself happily paying 17-20 for a big dish. LETS SUPPORT OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES- the ones that are left in sellwood, that is. Overall, 10/10. If this place went under, I would be very upset. I'd be willing to drive about 20 minutes to this spot to get food and head home.

Yelp
The banh mi dog was just calling me. Spicy sausage with the banh mi accoutrements. It was only half of a sausage. Good flavors. Gotta give them that on that. The drawback was, and I hate to say this, there wasn't enough vegetables. Since the bun was softer than a traditional banh mi, it required more vegetables for a texture contrast. I think I'd try some other things in the future but the dog won the day.

Yelp
I've lived in the neighborhood for years and never tried this establishment. The reviews have been mixed (but mostly positive) and a turn over of ownership occurred some time ago. We arrived on a Tuesday around 12 on a drippy day. There were a few patrons waiting for their food and others coming in from ordering online. The truck appeared clean with no observed issues or concerns. There were a few tables outside but because of the weather we decided to take our food home with us. We ordered the Chicken Thigh Bento w/ veggies and Yakisoba Noodles and the Spicy Ginger Beef Bento w/ veggies and Yakisoba Noodles. The gentleman behind the counter were both friendly, helpful and happy to chat. We were told our food would be ready in 10 minutes and it came out close to that time. Multiple sauces were available to bring away with you which we took advantage of. Got home and dug in. My girls shared the chicken thighs and added the sweet garlic sauce. They devoured it all. The chicken had good taste, juicy and well seasoned. The ginger beef was amazing. Mild spice, good flavor and SO tender...like crazy tender. Both portions were good sized and fed us well. The Yakisoba Noodles were not the highlight but worked with sauce.

Yelp
Oh, my! First time trying this place. I got it delivered, so I can't speak to the service but it got here quick and hot! I got the two protein bento with ginger beef and grilled chicken thighs. Delicious! The beef was tender, tasty and there were no "weird bits" like you can get from some places. The chicken had just the right amount of char and was so tasty. I got sides of peanut sauce and ponzu, threw some hot sauce on there, too, and it was the bomb! I ate my fill at lunch, nibbled on it some in the afternoon and there was enough left for my husband to have dinner. the noodles and veg (added for $1) were packed in tight. I will order again for sure.

Yelp
I was working nearby so of course I have to hop on yelp and see what's around. This spot was so close I could walk there. So I gave it a shot and I'm glad I did. It was right around opening (11:00) not busy. They had my food out in about 10 mins which was great. Freshly made. I ordered the two meat combo with chicken and lemon grass pork, yakisoba noodles and added veggies. For 12 dollars this was a deal. My container was packed. I even had leftovers to take home. The food was hot and everything tasted great. There are also several sauces you can pack in containers to take home or just pour what you want which is what I did. Chili garlic sauce, sweet chili, teriyaki, peanut sauce and honey garlic. What can I say I like sauces. Anyways I will be back for sure and make sure you check them out.

Yelp
Insanely good. Best value in Sellwood for hot food. Period. Large sauce selection. No price gauging. Even the drinks are reasonably priced and the food is delicious.
google avatar

Joe W.

Yelp
Fast and delicious! Beware large portions! This is the good grilled chicken, rice and they have lots of sauces to help yourself to.
google avatar

Caitlin N.

Yelp
Love this place. The food is always fire and the people serving it up are always the nicest and coolest. I had the steak noodle bento bowl today and the steak was perfectly cooked and delicious. The sauces are always tasty and plentiful. Shout out to Will for being the coolest and for having the tastiest food.

Yelp
Outstanding food cart in the heart of sellwood. Incredible value with huge portions for just $10 a bowl. All the sauces your heart desires with lots of menu options such as rice, noodles, teriyaki--the ginger beef was outstanding!!! lots of meat and veggie portions. Incredibly friendly owners as well!! cannot recommend this place enough! thank you!
google avatar

Tierra H.

Yelp
Lip smacking good! Portion size is a really good size for $8! You want a healthy option for lunch without all the grease please try. Also they have about 7 different sauces you can put over your food.
google avatar

Chad B.

Yelp
New owner is killing it! The food just keeps getting better. Definitely worth checking out.
google avatar

Riley C.

Yelp
Amazing quick lunch spot the ginger steak is wayyyy better then you can even imagine.

Yelp
This is one of my go to food trucks in Westmoreland / Sellwood. The food is good, the service is fast, and the portions are big. I usually get the chicken with rice or noddles and steamed veggies. But they have a few other protein options if chicken in not your thing. They also have a handful of sauces. I like the garlic and peanut.

Marcus M.

Yelp
I dont know how this place isnt 5 star, the food is incredible, although sometimes when apple maps says open, they are in fact not. but besides that probably my favorite food cart ever. the beef bento is next level.
google avatar

Alan S.

Yelp
This was really good. I went here today for the first time in years. It was fast and great quality.

Yelp
Um, this was pretty disappointing. Probably the worst meal I've ever had from a food cart, and I'm a Portland native so I've had PLENTY of food cart adventures. Note, I do not have any personal issues w the staff since my husband was the one to pick up our order, so this is solely my opinion of the teriyaki chicken w yakisoba noodles. The chicken was very dry, rubbery and flavorless, maybe it was grilled in batches from a couple hours ago and kept warm. The yakisoba noodles were purely that- straight up noodles with no veggies, no sauce, just a handful of room temperature noodles that come in 5 or 10lb bags at any Asian grocery mart for $5. The chicken was tossed on top of the plain noodles and a little sauce cup with the sauce to pour over everything. I had teriyaki sauce and my husband had peanut sauce and there was nothing notable about them except for that it was barely enough sauce to over the chicken. We could not finish our meals. There was absolutely no flair or taste to this meal and absolutely no resemblance to Japanese cuisine in any way. The name is insulting and misleading for anyone looking for a decent teriyaki chicken + yakisoba lunch. I very rarely post negative reviews but very rarely am I so insulted by a meal... Suggestions: Change the name, make some original sauces, add some stir fried veggies in w the yakisoba and maybe cook them together with a sauce, season the chicken, include more sauce, etc. There were a lot of noodles though! If you like dry, plain noodles.

Yelp
Nice spot for an inexpensive lunch; ingredients were flavorful, sauce bar options took the dish to the next level, and cool dudes running the truck

Princess Joy G.

Yelp
First time to try it and I must say it's really good. Every bite I keep saying "it's so good" lol. Their sauces is heaven!!!! The amount of food too is almost good for two people. I will definitely come back and recommend!!!!
google avatar

Rachel D.

Yelp
SAUCE FOR DAAYYYSSSS!! If you like to mix up flavors youll love it. Yakisoba noodles or rice, or a mix, come with. I wouldnt suggest the veggies- its more of like a cabbage mix and isnt really worth it. You get a lot of chicken but i feel like its usually pretty dry.. Go for the pork!! Best switch. They are under new owners now (best move) Its perfect for a quick stop lunch. But they do get busy! Call in if your in a time crunch. Take cash or card now
google avatar

Miguel M.

Yelp
It's a lot of food for the buck... Just don't voice any critique of the food to the owner or he'll punch you in the face numerous times and beat you up if you're a senior. Seriously, this guy it's out of control. Feel sorry for the lady that works there because she's awesome and nice, but the owner feels like he can beat up and threaten to SHOOT his neighbors that keep his cart going. Eff that guy and GTFO of our neighborhood.

Manny M.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Everyone who works here is so nice and accommodating!! The food is so good the chicken breast with the pork and noodles is my fave and you can't forget the veggies. Everything is always prepared right there so it's hot and fresh.
google avatar

Yelp
First time visiting Samurai and it did not disappoint! there was only one employee working and she was very friendly/worked very diligently as there were 4 orders in front of mine. Pricing was very affordable - $8 for teriyaki chicken with noodles and added veggies and the portions were huge! I could only eat half of it before I was full and am saving the rest for lunch tomorrow. As for taste it was fresh and light - enjoyed every bite !! Wasn't overly flavorful but the sauces on the side were a nice touch. *Side note - make sure you get sauces on the side! I tried the sweet chili, teriyaki, peanut sauce.. all amazing sauces to add to your dish* Overall great experience and can't wait to return! This is a great neighborhood food truck for Westmoreland.

Yelp
This place is so perfect! Get it and go. Chicken is amazing-cooked with so much flavor! Had both with noodles and with rice. Either way can't go wrong, I'm just a noodle lover and always add the extra veggie for a buck, why not!!!! It's always consist, always so good, can't go wrong if you are craving teriyaki or yakasoba!! Go get some and show support

Anne B.

Yelp
Super yummy, quick and easy. Perfect for a overcast day.... I loved this dish and happy I disregarded all negative reviews!
google avatar

Yelp
I've had this food cart a few times as it's right down the road from my place. It's very reasonably priced. I've had the chicken, beef, and now pork. They're all solid. It's a great place if you're lookin for a quick bite to eat and not looking to spend a ton. Wouldn't it put it towards the top of my list for food in the area but it's nowhere near the bottom either.
google avatar

Darren L.

Yelp
This bento cart rules! You can go ahead and just disregard any of these ridiculous 1 star 'reviews'. I have been going to Samurai Lunchbox for years, and with the recent management change it has actually gotten even better. The food is affordable, quickly prepared, filling portions, and healthy. You can obviously get meat or veggie options of noodle and rice combos here. They got me through the pandemic shutdown when most dine-in restaurants were closed or only doing to-go food. They are located in a cute little neighborhood in Sellwood so you can walk around and check out all the other stores after you feast. I've probably been here over a dozen times in the last 8 months. And oh yeah the sauces are AMAZING! You can always mix sauces as well to really reward your palette. I can't recommend this place enough.
google avatar

Jim J.

Yelp
Have been eating hear for close to 10 years. Wish we had the biker guy back that used to own/run it. Always hated the Sturgis week when he closed. The new management cannot cook chicken without it being well over cooked and little flavor. I don't eat there often as I used to, and when I do, I remember why.
google avatar

Jody M.

Yelp
Teenager begged me to stop after a smell sensory overload enveloped us walking to the car. We settled on the chicken with noodles to share. The sauces are quite delicious (wishing they sold some of the flavors in bottles to take home). The honey garlic and Teriyaki didn't disappoint at all. Needless to say the meal was 3/4 gone between the two of us with the teenager declaring victory was hers for convincing me to stop at this amazing food truck. Great meal, easy on the stomach and pretty decent prices and service. Guess where I'll be stopping for a meal when I am in the Sellwood area? Samurai Lunch Box!
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
Really disappointed today unfortunately.. First off when I got home I had multiple ants crawling on my container so I really didn't want to eat the meal after seeing that. Secondly, their brown to-go containers that all the meals come in have a very odd, strange almost chemical smell to them. I couldn't figure out what the smell was until I finally sniffed the container.. anyway, I couldn't eat my lunch so I wasted $8..
google avatar

Yelp
Tasty, flavorful rice or noodle bowls with your choice of protein or veg. Check out their large selection of sauces and pick your faves to drizzle over your dish. Perfect spot for a quick meal to go or casual meet up with a friend. The accompanying picnic tables are a nice addition as many food trucks aren't parked nearby seating. Order ahead and skip the line!
google avatar

Katya L.

Yelp
This place should be illegal! ... it shouldn't be allowed to have this much delicious food for so little money. (Don't get any ideas about raising your prices, Samurai Lunch Box, I'm just sayin'.) This food cart is right next to my therapist's office so I've grabbed lunch here on a couple of occasions. The quantity of food for the price alone would make this a winner in my book, but the quality is outstanding as well! I'd been warned that the teriyaki chicken can be a bit dry sometimes, but on all my visits it's been nice and juicy. The ginger lemongrass pork is out of this world. The yakisoba can get a bit dry (which on one hand is nice because it's not overly oily) so slathering it in the garlic sauce is highly recommended, as is the addition of veggies. Portions are huge. I love how customizable the menu is. You can get rice or noodles, add veggies if you're feeling virtuous, choose your protein or a combination of meats, and pick your sauces on the side after you receive your order. The pork especially really doesn't need additional seasoning, but I like to add some fire sauce for the chicken and the aforementioned garlic teriyaki sauce on the noodles. The cart is cash-only, but a heaping box o'goodness will set you back less than a tenner, so it's a small inconvenience. Highly recommended for a quick, flavorful, no-frills lunch/snack/dinner/non-denominational mealtime.

Yelp
Great prices and great quality food. Got the chicken teriyaki bowl and it did not disappoint!
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
I got the teriyaki chicken with vegetables. It all tasted really fresh, and I appreciated that the chicken was done in the traditional style via basting in sauce while grilling as opposed to just covering it with sticky sweet sauce at the end. It was a lot of food, and I definitely felt stuffed by the end of it. I think I will ask for less rice next time, as it seemed like there was quite a bit of it, and the chicken was a bit too crispy at times, though I couldn't tell if that was the basting sauce being caramelized or the chicken itself. Overall, they have great food at a great value, and it's fast!
google avatar

Dylan P.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place because I always see a fat line during lunchtime and I love me some chicken. BUT it ended up being pretty bad. The chicken sososo dry. They should start only cooking chicken thighs, which are way juicier and hard to overcook, because they cook the shit out of their chicken. The flavor of the chicken was fine and aided by the fact that they offer a plethora of yummy sauces to-go. Not only was my chicken overcooked by they served it on a FAT bed of white rice and when i went to grab a bite of it my fork went in and got almost stuck. The rice had all congealed together into some sort of mushy, gooey rice cake. So they overcooked the rice too! Looks like you really can't trust the white people lined up around the corner to eat Asian cuisine served by other white people. I'll stick to a banh mi from Lily's sandwiches.
google avatar

Mandii F.

Yelp
This is hands down the BEST bento I have ever had. The pork with yakisoba and veggies is my favorite. So blessed that my work is right down the street and the portions are HUGE for the price. Love this place!
google avatar

Autumn B.

Yelp
The previous owner Doug truly made this the BEST bento in town for the price and value. The new owner, however, has cut quality (meats are overcooked/dry maybe even left over from other days), my last order was messed up (I ordered extra veggies and there weren't any), and the prices somehow increased?!? It's not worth it anymore. There is much better bento in Portland. Skip this place and head across the street to Stickers Asian Cafe.
google avatar

Eric D.

Yelp
Have you ever made teriyaki at home? Than go ahead and save yourself the time of going to this place. Honestly tired of people standing for spots like this. Lacks creativity, timely and unsatisfied. There's literally a million bento places. How could you do it wrong lol. Anyone can squirt costco teriyaki on chicken.
google avatar

SIok T.

Yelp
Spicy beef rice was just ok for me. The beef was slightly tough and I can't really taste any ginger. I still prefer the teriyaki chicken brown rice. The chicken breast is tender.
google avatar

Tia J.

Yelp
One of my favorite food carts! The chicken, with either rice or noodles, is so good! Add some veggies to glam it up a little, some sauces, and you'll be a happy camper. The peanut sauce is my favorite! There's a nice variety to choose from on the menu. Grab a drink and a seat at one of the near by picnic tables and chow down. Check the hours and days that he's open for business before setting out to eat here and be prepared for a little bit of a wait. Totally worth it!

Yelp
11March20 @ 11:45am. Food cart in a parking lot. We got lucky and someone was pulling out as we pulled in otherwise the lot was full. Quick friendly service. We had the veggie box with tofu and white rice and the 2 meat combo with veggies and white rice. Food was ready in about 10 minutes. Smells good waiting for the order. When we got home we found that the veggie box with tofu was veggie box with lots of noodles, no rice and no tofu - bummer not only because we paid $2 for tofu but because we wanted the tofu not noodles so big bummer. The veggies in both boxes consisted of lots of chopped red cabbage and two small pieces of broccoli, some shredded carrot and a few small pieces of celery. The veggie add on to the combo was an extra $1. The combo box had lots of small cut pieces of pork and beef and lots of rice. The pork was overcooked and not flavorful and the beef was not tough but not tasty just kind of there. We did not finish either meal. Disappointing.

Cheyenne B.

Yelp
Had this for the first time today! I decided to do a half chicken, half beef bento with noodles and veggies and teriyaki and honey garlic sauce for the sides. the chicken looks beautifully cooked, but in fact, it's quite dry and overcooked. The beef is fantastic though! If I come again I will make sure to order beef only. The veggies include cabbage, broccoli, celery and carrots and they're nice and charred. Noodles are standard.
google avatar

Jake J.

Yelp
Great place to grab a quick lunch. The portions are pretty big, and the variety of sauces is very nice. A couple of things to think about: you get A LOT of rice. I like rice as much as the next guy, but I could probably have about half as much and still be happy; both the pork and the chicken are good, although the pork has a slight edge in my book; get the veggies--they're good for you! If you're going for your first time, I'd suggest getting one of the combos (with veggies, come on now) and trying as many of the sauces as you think you might like so that you can get an idea of the variety of flavors available to you. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
google avatar

Rachelle W.

Yelp
Pros: The service was quick (took about 10 min) but there was no one in line. The prices are good. The veggies were delicious. The brown rice was tasty too. Sauces are tasty and not too salty. Good portion size. Con: meat was DRY! I ordered at 5pm on a weekday and both the chicken and the pork were way over cooked and dry. I'll give them another try to see if it was a fluke about the dry meat. There's no parking. It's a food truck with a walk up window, but they do have two picnic tables
google avatar

Kevin D.

Yelp
Decent chicken and rice for the price, but I felt like the chicken was a bit dry. They serve the meal like you're suppose to put your own chosen sauce on it, but the sauce I picked felt too much like a teriyaki marinade and not like a sauce. They give you a shit ton of rice though.

Faith Y.

Yelp
Been going here for 16 years and I've definitely seen a decline in the quality and the staff he's hired is rude. Not going back.
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
I don't know why I haven't tried Samurai Lunchbox before! Probably because of the hours, but I'm so happy I dropped in for lunch on the weekend. I ordered the chicken teriyaki with vegetables and brown rice, and a sampling of their sauces. I didn't realize the meal doesn't come slathered in sauces like most teriyaki places, my only regret is that I didn't grab a little extra teriyaki sauce. The veggies were perfectly cooked, not a limp soggy mess. There was no mystery meat--upon opening the to-go container I was greeted by a perfectly cooked chicken breast, neatly sliced and not over cooked. Even the brown rice was just right. The sauces were your normal fare--teriyaki, sriracha, but then there was a smokey sauce and a peanut sauce too. I'll definitely be back for some yakisoba noodles and will be putting a bunch of the peanut sauce on top. Again, I'm glad the sauce is on the side, it is really nice to be able to choose how much and what flavor you want. Thanks for a great lunch and good service to boot.

Yelp
Delicious dinners.. Our chicken and steak terrkiya soo good! Have lot a sauce choice to put on your meal.. Steak little spicy but it good.. Thank!!
google avatar

Evelyn M.

Yelp
I like: consistency, size of portions LEANNESS of meats, value for the price. There is nothing IMO that isn't to like! I LOVE that the sauces are there for our choosing and experimentation!
google avatar

Nathan Y.

Yelp
Extremely meh and flavorless. I had gotten the lemongrass pork and it basically tasted like regular grilled pork, none of the traditional lemongrass seasoning. It comes in a good portion of just meat and carbs, salad extra for a few cents if you wanted some variety. They did have some sauces on the side to add to the meal. Without these it'd be extremely bland. Also cash only FYI.
