"Located just a couple minutes off of I-196 very close to the Lake Michigan waterfront, Waypost is a farm-based brewery doing things a little differently than most other brewers out there. The sprawling patio and a Nordic-feeling taproom serves up farm-to-kettle beers and other thoughtfully off-kilter options like a blueberry porter, sea-salt stout, and an IPA with key lime and candied pineapple." - Karl Klockars, Eater Staff

Google
Waypost Brewing Co. offers a delightful pit stop for anyone traveling back to Chicago and in search of a charming brewery experience. The atmosphere is inviting and cozy. They offer a fantastic selection of beers that cater to all tastes, ensuring every visitor finds something to enjoy. What sets Waypost apart is its dog-friendly policy, making it a fantastic choice for pet owners. My dog had a great time watching the chickens and turkey roam freely, adding a unique touch to our visit. Overall, a stop at Waypost Brewing Co. guarantees a very good time paired with excellent beer. Highly recommended for both beer aficionados and their furry friends!

Google
A fun place with great beers! We enjoyed having beer with our new friends, the chickens! So unique! The outdoor setting is open and inviting. I got a flight and loved every pour! My husband ordered a pint and it was enjoyable as well. We'll definitely be back!

Google
We had a wonderful visit at Waypost Brewing Company. We were fortunate enough to stay as a Harvest Host Guest. What a great selection of beers. We enjoyed a flight, trying some of their wonderful craft beers. We particularly enjoyed the House lager and the Farmhouse IPA. They did not offer much in the way of food but did have some salty snacks. They had indoor and outdoor seating and the facility was very well maintained and the staff was very pleasant and accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay.

Google
This place is picturesque! Well worth a drive for great beer, sunshine, and interactions with chickens. They come running if you crinkle a chip bag. The outdoor space is large and has shaded areas for sitting. It’s nice that dogs are allowed in their outdoor space too!

Google
Waypost has a great selection of IPAs, some yummy ciders, and their dark stouts are rich and tasty! The snack menu is high-quality local cheese and crackers, and the outdoor space is pleasant with a place for kids and chickens! Yard games and food trucks, too!

Google
We enjoyed our stay and would absolutely do it again. The beer was very good, service great, u-pick blueberries, ambience very relaxing and the snacks and food truck were Yummy! Absolutely recommended.

Enjoyed the place immensely. Great setting, beautiful surroundings, lovely beers - very varied! - welcoming staff. Great selection of merch too.

Google
Great selection of craft beers and check out their snack menu. You can hang out in the air conditioned tasting room or go outside and grab a picnic table under the sun shade. It was a perfect day to sit out side and have a flight. You can create your own charecuterie. Get the Salsa Mancha Goat Cheese from the local Evergreen Lane Creamery (Another great local business.).

Yelp
Waypost Brewery isn't just the best brewery in town; it's a sanctuary where hops and creativity frolic under the expert guidance of a brewmaster with impeccable taste. Their saison? A luxurious elixir that dances on your palate, perfectly capturing the essence of craftsmanship in each sip. It's an absolute must-try, bursting with character and begging to be savored. Then there's the Waypost Lager - robust and richly flavorful, it's like a symphony of taste that lingers delightfully long after your last gulp. The ideal move here is to dive into a tasting session, journey through their unique brews, and cap it off with a full pint of that divine saison. As if the stellar lineup of beers wasn't enough, Waypost comes alive with fantastic music that sets just the right tone for an afternoon or evening of indulgence. And let's not overlook the outdoor space, a charming spot dotted with crazy chickens that add just the right touch of whimsy to the atmosphere. So if you're in search of top-tier brews and a place where flavor and fun collide, Waypost Brewery is your destination. Prepare to be enchanted, entertained, and above all, thoroughly quenched.

Yelp
We stayed at Waypost Brewing as part of our Harvest Host membership (overnight RV parking). Plenty of room for that... and a great outdoor seating area! There were plenty of tables and games (cornhole). It was cold the day we were there so we didn't sit outside for long. I know it's a brewery (I'm not a beer drinker) but they didn't offer any other beverage choices (hard cider, wine, seltzers). All in all a great stop (kind of off the beaten path)... go if you're in the area!

Yelp
We have now been to Waypost Brewing twice and it has won our hearts and our taste buds. Waypost is secluded in secluded in a gorgeous countryside spot. With exceptional and well manicured outdoor space, it is prime for a small hangout or a larger gathering/event. We actually saw a wedding reception occurring the first time we came and it looked like an absolute blast! Most importantly, Waypost has phenomenal beer. Coming from the Chicagoland area, our hope is to find breweries that we enjoy. Waypost is a brewery that we LOVE! We have not tried a beer at Waypost that we did not like. Some favorites include the Saison, the Earl Grey Grisette, and the Farmhouse IPA! We've like the beers so much the two times we've been that we've gotten a four pack from their convenient to-go store both times we've visited. Yum! I'm addition, Prices are reasonable, the space is super comfortable and spacious, and the staff are extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. They have recommended the best beers to me for my flight that I probably wouldn't have chosen myself. Thank you! Whether you are in the area or can work it into you day, Waypost is WELL worth the visit. We cannot wait until our next visit!

Yelp
Super cute place, love the indoor vibe and outdoor patio with live music on the weekends! Ofc the beer was amazing (my fav was the coffee) and for the nonalc folks, the elderflower soda was very refreshing! Also there are very cute chickens milling around and they sell eggs out front in a cooler!

Amy W.

Yelp
This was a nice stop on our way to Holland. The friendly bartender let us sample a couple of beers, and we split the Saison. This was a very refreshing beer that we enjoyed inside the beautiful taproom. Clean and comfortable with hightops and low tables.

Adam W.

Yelp
Nice place Plenty of outside room Fun place to bring the family and let them explore Quiet in the midst of a lot of big and busy places

Lauren C.

Yelp
The beer is amazing - I love their sours and had an awesome flight. Staff is super friendly and helpful and I LOVE the interior design of the space. Modern and minimalist with ample seating. Total win!

Jickles H.

Yelp
Waypost is a fantastic brewery! Great beers and an amazing location. They have an indoor seating area adjacent to the front counter where you order your beer and an outdoor patio/picnic area that is patrolled by chickens! Dogs welcome. Order a beer and enjoy it inside or outside depending on the weather. We were visiting from Chicago and lucked out with a late October warm spell - gorgeous colors on the trees, tee-shirt weather, and delicious beer served by very friendly people! They also got slammed by an event bus just before we made up our minds on what to order, and they were so quick and efficient that we ordered and had our beers in minutes! We brought a couple of 4-packs home because the beer was so good! Definitely, a brewery to check out if in the area!!

Amy W.

Yelp
This was such a great find! Located in the middle of nowhere (literally), is this great little brewery! This place was great! They own all the surrounding property and we were able to get the story behind the brewery from the owners. They were super friendly. The inside was warm and inviting and they outside was beautiful. Flowers everywhere! Full patio outside! We enjoyed our beers and grabbed tagabrews. They participate in the hop passport so that was a great thing as well. The passports offer 50% off your first two beers. Perfect for brewery hopping! I would definitely suggest checking this place out. It's a super fun spot!

Sara F.

Yelp
For me, the location, atmosphere, and giant outdoor area that welcomed dogs was amazing. They also had yard games like bags and ladder golf (?). There are also some chickens roaming around which was entertaining to observe. I personally didn't love their beer, but everybody has a different palate. They had quite a few options on tap, but no hazy ipa which is my preferred brew. There is a snack menu including local meat and cheese.

Tyler S.

Yelp
Great spot to relax and enjoy some farm vibes. Farm house feel inside with great outside seating. Beer is good (had better, but that's almost always the case anymore with all that's out there). Definitely a spot you need to stop by. Say hi to the chickens.

Yelp
I stopped by this place early in the evening on a weeknight. This place showed up as being the closest brewpub to my location and I gave it a try. It's not an easy pub to find, but I'm glad I stopped in. It's nestled in a field off the highway. The patio is dog-friendly but I kept my dog in my Honda with the windows down. He was resting after a warm hike in the nearby state park. I walked into a room with large community tables and soft, warm light. A group from Ohio was at the counter praising the beer. I sat near them. There were no other groups in the room. Hans was my server. I ordered a coffee stout which lived up to its name. It had good mouthfeel. I could taste the coffee. A local woman joined us at the bar thirty minutes later. Her opinions on current politics got some peoples' attention, but no fights ensued. The Ohio group left. The server smiled but stayed out of the conversation. I noticed that I had lost my car keys somewhere in the place. It's not like I was all over the place, but I couldn't find them anywhere. Hans ended up finding them behind the toilet (!) and ran out to give them to me. He didn't have to do that, but I appreciated the gesture. At least I didn't have to break into my own car. This is a place I will visit again on my next trip up to Michigan.

Michael S.

Yelp
Stoped by on the way to Ely Lake Campground. We did two samplers and a couple of great beers. Enjoyed it so much we grabbed some to go.

Sarah F.

Yelp
Super cute outdoor, dog friendly space! Good beers including the ours. I really liked their sour IPA!

jennie h.

Yelp
Ok. I have been hesitant to write this review. Have you ever stumbled upon a great place and want them to be successful but also love the fact that's it's a little known great spot and hope to keep it that way? Not only was the beer great, the free range chickens were friendly and I loved how educated the bartender was about beer! Can't wait for warmer weather - will be stopping by a few times this year

Sara T.

Yelp
Waypost is a must brewery to visit. They are by far the cleanest place we have been during Covid. They do ask for reservations. They will seat you in the beer garden. Everything is online via your phone. They ask that you place your order on your phone and then go inside to the bar to pick it up. Do not let this overwhelm you!!! It's easy to add the items you want and pay on your phone with your credit card. This is minimizing the amount of staff they need and helping minimize contact however possible. I think it's a creative approach to the safety measures we are taking. We got flights and loved the beers. If you like craft beers you will absolutely find one you like. The beer garden is so cute and feels like you're sitting on a farm - because you are. It's gorgeous. There are chickens roaming around. They will get close to you and may attempt to jump on your table. We were uneasy at first because we are city folk. They just need shooed away - it's not a big deal. They are just looking for food - so don't feed them. We loved this place.

Yelp
We hosted an event here on their patio and it was outstanding! From the coordination to the brews to the staff, everything was seamless and above and beyond. Our guest complimented on the space and hospitality. They made sure all our needs were met, we had our own private taps, and the atmosphere couldn't have been better on a summer night. Thankful for the crew at Waypost that allowed us a memorable night!

Chelsea H.

Yelp
Such a cool place. Loved the atmosphere, everyone was so nice and helpful. Most importantly, the beer was great!

Sara T.

Yelp
Randomly stopped at this brewery after seeing a road sign on the drive back to Chicago - 10/10! Very clean interior and cozy outdoor area. The strawberry saison was super fresh. My boyfriend got a house IPA and said it was one of the best beers he's ever had. Incredibly friendly staff who make great recommendations, you can tell they enjoy their jobs. Thanks for a fun visit!

Jeremiah J.

Yelp
Loved this place!!! Amazed at how good almost everyone of their beers tasted!!! Def gonna take beers to go and will be back!!!

Gary L.

Yelp
Pretty good beers, employees are darn good. Tends to be a little loud. They need to put up some banners to stop some of the noise. But everyone was having a great time. Food trucks are an awesome addition.

Marc R.

Yelp
What we were able to try at last call was great. Their beers have a host of flavors and creative combinations for a true beer enthusiast! This just isn't "the new" IPA with 4 more different hops, or the latest sour attempt. I wish we had more time, but the beers have a sophisticated and dynamic approach for flavors. The atmosphere is relaxed and open range... literally with chickens roaming about. We will be back and try more!!!

Lisa V.

Yelp
Great beers, easy drinking for a hot afternoon. Awesome farm location with lawn games, lots of space, and chickens roaming. Highly recommend!

Andrew S.

Yelp
Really cool spot. My wife and I both got flights and tried 8 different brews. While none of them absolutely blew me away, I genuinely liked them all and there were some unique flavors. Kid friendly and dog friendly. Nice chill vibe for an easy drinking afternoon.

Maria C.

Yelp
Possibly too dumb to ever accrue a customer base. We called the brewery to see how early we had arrive to be able to get a table outside, if 5 would be okay. The guy said really anytime. We drove over there at 5 only to find they were closed outside due to an event. Don't know if the beer is good, if someone puts me through that kind of annoyance, especially during Covid, I'm not likely to be back.

Michael M.

Yelp
A charming brewery in the middle of Blueberry fields! I tried the Blueberry Porter right out the gate and fell in love. The beer is well balanced and will certainly be in my rotation. We spent a lovely Autumn afternoon with a porter and a charcuterie try by the fire pit. We will be back!

Jillian H.

Yelp
The outdoor space is nice but the indoor space lacks character. The bartender was friendly but I thought $12 dollars for a flight is a bit pricey. We ordered a pale ale which tasted like a major brand name canned beer, an IPA, a farmhouse and a strawberry saison. The best of the four was the strawberry saison but still nothing memorable. There are far better small breweries to visit while driving around the Michigan coast area.

Jan D.

Yelp
This is a great place. loved the lager and seasonal maple brown ale. Fun stuff on Saturday.

Jerry T.

Yelp
Beers are really good here. You can tell the brewer uses good quality ingredients in his beers. The pub room is really cool they play vinyl records which I think is really cool and they play good sounding albums too. I really like the bar furniture you can tell it was all hand made by a real carpenter not some Asian crap built furniture. Only things I didn't like was that the pub room was alittle warm but besides that I do not have any complaints. Oh also they sell beer to go in bottles not in growlers so if you want to save the beer you can u like having a growler.

Neil L.

Yelp
Loved this brewery. Reminds me of a west coast brewery. Outstanding beer and limited food options, but they have a food truck in the parking lot. Very cool vibe. Appropriately small-ish well designed interior. I think the beer is outstanding compared to other nearby options. I drove here directly from another nearby brewery and this was superior, hands down. Loved the IPA and pale ale I tried. Also the lager was outstanding. I didn't get to try the Idaho 7 IPA because it was sold out. Maybe next time. The outside seating set up is cool, low key. They have live music on Fridays and Saturdays. I thought it was a miss for them to not have music on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, but that's a one time thing. But they may want to think about music on Sunday's during the summer busy season. I was amazed at how many people were here and kept coming in. There was a line at 4:00pm on Sunday. Holiday weekend, but still. I really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back. However, it will probably have to be without my wife. There were no-non beer options. She is a red wine drinker. They didn't have a cider either, which our other friend wanted. I'm hoping that over time they will find a way to integrate drinks for non-beer drinkers because it will really expand who can go there. I for one, would go there more frequently if I could go with my wife and friends who don't drink beer. It seems like a no-brained to partner with Virtue on a cider and Fenn Valley for wine. This place is what a small brewery that cares about beer should be. The location is a little unusual. Former farm. Some people may like that. I did, but I'm worried about it's location between towns. Maybe they see it as a benefit. At least yesterday it seemed that no one else cared because a lot of people were there.

maggie l.

Yelp
I really like this place. Attended the Christmas tree burn. We met so many great people while enjoying awesome beer. Although it was cold out, their outdoor area looks awesome! Very nice laid back environment with a female brewer. Nice!

Kris W.

Yelp
Love this place! A very cool, hip brewery. The selection of beers are really unique. We have been several times and I suggest doing a tasting and then getting a full glass. My only suggestion is that they seem to have some line problems with the taps, but once they start pouring the beers are delicious. Very comfortable and laid back. I also like that they didn't try doing too many things at once, they pour beer and I think have some snacks but that's it. The owner is very nice. I think the beers are interesting, some better than others, but just enjoyable overall. Glad this place is around.

D. S.

Yelp
Good beer selection. Rather simple interior in this make over location from a farmers market/pie road stop. Cheese plate was overpriced and disappointing. Somewhat friendly service. Moderate to high price point. Anxious to see what summer will bring, lots of outdoor potential.

Taylor P.

Yelp
Nice setting and decent beer. Unfortunately the staff was Impolite and unhelpful -- it seems being a little busy made them argumentative. Difficult to get added to the waitlist or seated.

Keith S.

Yelp
Nice selection of very good beer! Nice outside and inside . Great vibe. The Brut, Farmhouse, and Sea Salt Stout all winners.

B J.

Yelp
Very cute place, good outdoor area. Decent variety of beers, something for every palate. Dog friendly.

Amber J.

Yelp
Love it! Beautiful brewery it has the feel of a winery and the semi permanent BBQ place is amazing. His food is great and I love that he has something for everyone full bbq, hot dogs, brats and beyond burgers.

Dee S.

Yelp
Honesty, it's a ton of breweries in the area and I suggest going somewhere else. The beer is mediocre at best. The IPA lacked taste. The cheese and meat plate did hit the spot. The plate was 15 bucks compared to the 7ish at vineyard up the road. The Waypost has been open for only two weeks, hopefully their selection will rise to the par of their counterparts in the area. Good luck!

J D.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick Session IPA and really enjoyed it. The have a great outdoor location, sort of a giant field near the woods. There was a small car show going on that was fun also, the sun was out and it was just a really easy and great outside experience.

Ann B.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this place when they first opened. However the past few visits have been a disappointment. My husband waited 5 minutes for a beer while two bartenders were looking at a passport. Today we came and they had great outdoor music and the beer is good here but the food truck is another story. They were out of many items and actually told us we couldn't order because they needed to clean the grill. My husband went back 15 later and shared his disappointment and the server yelled at him! What happened to customer service.

Kris K.

Yelp
Rustic setting. Sort of sterile interior. Nice outdoor seating for a warm afternoon (which may be now behind us for a while in Michigan). The BF, a homebrewer, and I, a humalupophile, were both underwhelmed by the beers. We likely should have shared a flight, but we each ordered a pint and I wasn't moved to finish mine. They both had a funk and I don't think it was fully intended. The staff was only mildly friendly, and I think when you are new in a brewery saturated state, you should have a hook of some kind or another, even if the only hook is excellent pivo. No hook here for me. It's all subjective, though. I wouldn't summarize with don't go there by any means, I just don't think it's worth a trip from anywhere but within a few miles.

Jill D.

Yelp
New brewery in a blueberry field. Thus the dark blueberry beer I tried. Delicious! I usually don't try fruited beer but this had the right balance and complexity with just a hint of that blueberry. Loved it and I'll be back.

Meagan P.

Yelp
The beers were all delicious--I don't particularly care for porters or hoppy beers, but I found that I actually liked the blueberry porter and the VIPA. My favorites were the Saison Sauvage and the Norwegian Pale Ale. We ordered a cheese plate and appreciated that all the options were local--it's cool to get a real taste of the area and support other local businesses at the same time. We did bring in snacks as well, since we knew we would get hungry. I appreciate that they allow you to carry-in food. I also heard people talking about getting pizza from a local place--we didn't do it but I'm glad they are cool with that. The atmosphere was really low-key the first time I went (a week day afternoon/early evening) and hopping--but still casual--the second time I went (a Saturday.) I didn't get a chance to hang near the fire pit but the people who were around it seemed to be having a lot of fun. The art on display inside fit the atmosphere well. The staff was helpful, friendly, and attentive without being obnoxious. I loved that they had a water filling station and glasses available for patrons to use without having to ask bar staff, and the bathrooms were super clean. Overall, I'm impressed with the design, atmosphere, and most importantly, the beer. Next time we're in town we'll be visiting again for sure.
