Wayside Cider Review - Andes - The Catskills - The Infatuation

"At Wayside Cider, you can sample funky alcoholic apple juice and listen to someone go ham on a banjo, watch the sunlight fade at a picnic table underneath an array of twinkle lights, or climb up to the loft to play shuffleboard and darts. All of Wayside’s nooks and crannies are the perfect setting for a day full of bar snacks and small-batch ciders made from Hudson Valley apples. The ciders are on the drier side, ranging from the crushable Skinny Dip with tons of tiny bright bubbles, to the fuller-bodied Catskill with hints of oak and bourbon. It’s even possible to have a full meal here with bar bites like andouille hot dogs and grazing boards—we just wish the food menu was a tiny bit more fleshed out, because the drinks and the space are so special." - Anne Cruz

The 24 Best Restaurants In The Catskills 2024 - New York - The Infatuation

"Aside from hiking and the coffee shop, the biggest attraction in Andes is Wayside Cider. You can go ahead and add this cider brewery to your list of Catskills wedding venue fantasies (even if you’re already married or insist you don’t believe in the concept of marriage). There are a bunch of spaced-out tables in the grass, as well as a barn with picnic tables where you can sit when it starts pouring. The cider here ranges from funky to crisp and classic, and when you get hungry, there are many charcuterie-adjacent options you can graze while deciding which cider to try next. Google
This place is the heart and soul of Andes/ Delaware county. They grow the apples, produce the ciders, and host a variety of community events. Delicious bar snacks made from local products. Beautiful historic farmhouse and outdoor area. Highly recommend if you are in the area !

Went to a cute holiday market here a couple weeks back. It was cold and snowy but fun to get some food and goodies from all local vendors. Very charming spot!

Google
Such a rad little joint in the middle of Andes. Beautiful facility with incredible offerings with smiling staff too.

Google
Very cute open air tap house with picnic table seating (covered and uncovered) with fire pit and two bars. Order at the bar, but the service was great! We had the smoked trout plate and it was a good value. The ciders are delicious, well-balanced and none were too sweet (like most ciders are). Definitely worth a visit!

Had a couple wonderful experiences her with my wife and friends. It’s a bit of a drive from Woodstock but worth it. Tried pickled brussel sprouts which were amazing and highly recommend if they still have them.

What a fun time!!! We went for their Thursday movie night for Halloween and it was phenomenal- such a clever idea. They had a themed popcorn (delicious) and comfy space to watch the movie. They have an excellent selection of drinks and small plates. Dog friendly! Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!

Google
Awesome staff, amazing service! If it's your first time, make sure to try a flight and taste a few of their great ciders! And then buy a bottle to take home and another as a gift 😉 Recently they've had lots of great shows on the weekends!

Google
I really love the ciders that are offered here! The staff were extremely friendly and efficiently worked through the line. I loved that before purchasing a glass of cider, they allowed you to taste them. I can be picky and was glad they did that considering my first pick wasn’t my favorite. After the bartender asked what I liked, they were able to pick the perfect cider for my taste! The cider was great and after plenty of glasses, I never got a headache like some ciders tend to give! *I did give them 4 stars rather than 5 because the glasses are very small compared to the price. They also did not have their kitchen open which was disappointing.

Yelp
Wayside Cider is an absolute charmer and so photogenic. It's the perfect spot for cozy autumn vibes. The property is decorated with twinkling fairy lights, an old truck, and a rustic barn that are good backdrops for a picture or two. The staff was incredibly nice and knows their products really well. They brought our group bottles of all the ciders and took the time to explain each one to us. The honey cider was the group favorite, but I personally preferred the one with beet in it. They told us it was a controversial flavor that people love or hate, and I understand why. It has such a unique, earthy flavor. Outside, there's some fun activities , including ping pong, a fire pit, and Cornhole. It's a great spot to relax with your friends, sip some refreshing local cider, and enjoy the outdoor view.

Yelp
Best part is the outdoor fire pit. Great place to meet up with people and it's a great atmosphere disappointed that they no longer carry the charcuterie board. Don't waste your money on the cheese tray. It only serves one. They need to beef up their food menu, not a place to have dinner but great place to hang out

Yelp
Andes feels like it's on the cusp of something. The past is prologue; the future remains to be told. Situated on the outer edge of the Catskills, it feels like Andes is just being discovered by visitors. To wit, at the cidery, I heard a Brit (conversing in English) with two Slavic speakers, one of whom was responding solely in his native language. Over there, two youngish guys were discussing bodybuilding form, which led to one of them dropping to the gravel to demonstrate his one armed pushups. And that was just the crowd... I sampled two ciders; everything is available on tap, plus guest taps of craft beer. The first (Catskill, I think?) was semi-dry. I usually lean towards drier varietals, but this really hit the spot after a long tour through the Southern Tier. "Wild" is just what the name says: foraged apples, never twice the same flavor profile year to year. Absolutely outstanding, so a bottle came home with me. A local in line ahead of me said their kitchen was slow, so I didn't attempt food. Really nice location, old coal yard or some such, very vibey, and pleasantly situated in a cute little town. The servers were super nice and engaged, which is always a treat.

Yelp
The pumpkin cheesecake was amazing!!!!!!! It was the best cheesecake I've ever had. We wanted to come by the next day to grab more but it didn't fit our schedule. The chorizo empanadas were also quite amazing. They were super fresh and the chorizo was so well cooked. It wasn't flakey like a normal empanada but still amazing and would recommend to anyone!

Yelp
A friend found this place to end her birthday celebration at and it was the perfect spot. The bartender from Pensacola was great. I enjoyed my "Cozy": hot apple cider with apple brandy. It was perfect for the colder evening. Our group had so much fun in the upstairs game room drinking and playing a game. A local musician was playing downstairs. The place was a great find and I hope to get back soon. The fire pit outside with the lights overhead looks like an amazing spot to drink and chat with friends too.

Dawn S.

Yelp
Just celebrated my birthday with a dozen friends in the cozy upstairs game room at Wayside! As always, service was great (thank you Emily!) and the food was exceptional-- delicious and locally sourced. The game room has a pool table and other old-school games. Wayside is a real gem in the Western Catskills!

Kate D.

Yelp
Highly recommend stopping here for a drink and a quick bite to eat. The food and drinks were delicious. Really cool ambiance, clean but rustic. Great service and very dog friendly!

Luke H.

Yelp
INSANELY cute, amazing cider and great staff. This place has the best vibes. So many games indoor and outdoor (including the awesome game room upstairs), great outdoor ambiance and bonfire, and live music. 1000% recommend. Cider and food was so good too.

Sarah H.

Yelp
We were spending one night in Andes on our trip in the Catskills. After dinner we were walking down Main Street and noticed the sign for the Taproom so we walked down the gravel driveway to check it out. What we found was one of the best establishments we've ever been to. There was a private patio with tables, lights, and games. The bar's ambiance was wonderful, the bar tender was friendly and attentive, and the food and drinks were amazing (their cider in particular). To top it off, there is a big lounge and game room upstairs for hours of fun while you eat, drink, and hang out. We couldn't recommend Wayside Cider more!
google avatar

Madeleine A.

Yelp
Yikes, this was disappointing. The space itself is wonderful, with lots of seating and games. The food looked incredible. However, the ciders had very little flavor at best and were rancid at worst. We may have just gotten a bad batch, but we were definitely not going to risk buying a bottle to bring home.

Yelp
I really enjoyed Wayside Cider Room. Not only is it a cute outdoor spots for drinks and food, but the staff is very welcoming and the venue is so cute. I didn't see any indoor seating so if you plan to visit on a cold day/evening bring a sweater. There is shelter over the outdoor seating but not enough to keep you warm. The menu has a lot of options and the staff knows what they're talking about when it comes to suggestions. I wasn't well versed in cider so it was nice to have the staff help me choose a few ciders to taste.

Zach T.

Yelp
Very rude service. I sat at the bar for more than twenty minutes as the mustachioed bartender served people as they came in the door but wouldn't serve me. He said he was serving the far end of the bar. I finally moved to that end of the bar, but he still wouldn't serve me. Good music. Dunno if he only serves locals or didn't like something else about me, but better to go to the speakeasy down the way or even the hotel tavern. I wanted to like this place but wouldn't recommend, especially to out-of-towners.
google avatar

Zelda D.

Yelp
We came here for lunch and a cider and we were not served. The sign said to order at the bar, which was full except for a few single seats. We sat at a table near the bar and I went up to order. I was ignored by both bartenders, who were having conversations with patrons, so after several minutes I sat back down to wait for them to free up. After about five I went back up and stood there being ignored for a few more minutes. We ended up just leaving without acknowledgment. The whole experience was bizarre and disappointing.

Yelp
Yummy food & cute spot in a small town. It's so wonderful to have a good food option in such a remote spot. I had the tomato soup which was very good and also a bowl of their Mac & cheese which was filling and flavorful. If your in the area stop by.

Yelp
Their Skinny Wayside cider is the best I've tasted since I drank my first glass of cider at age 12, in France, in Brittany, on a farm called La Boulaye. This cider tastes the same and takes me back there, many many years ago. I will be back many more times. Thank you for your fantastic, authentic cider and a lovely atmosphere to sit in your outdoor garden on a lovely afternoon/evening... Best, Ellen

Yelp
A very odd place, in an odd town, during odd times... With or without COVID, I'd recommend going elsewhere. While it's visually appealing and the people are nice, the cider is bad (think flat champagne) and the food is worse. And while I appreciate getting off the grid sometimes, with no cell phone coverage it's difficult to find your way out of the town. Bring a map.

Yelp
We're cider enthusiasts and this place exceeded our expectations. Each cider was distinct from the others they were serving. All had powerful apple flavors without being more than a touch sweet (with the exception of the fortified one which was also delicious but definitely a dessert cider). What set this place apart from a lot of breweries and cider houses is a full and outstanding menu. This allowed us to bring the grandparents and kids as we indulged in our cider quest. The atmosphere is casual but very nicely designed with beer garden tables in a pretty patio nestled between an open barn and the tap room. I wish we lived in the area. We would go here all the time.

Yelp
This place is so cool! I have been coming to the Catskills my entire life and haven't seen a place this trendy up here ever. We came Saturday of Columbus Day Weekend and sidled up to the bar to order some drinks and food. The cider was a bit dry for me on its own, so I ordered the sangria made with cider and fresh fruit. My mom and aunt ordered the rose lemonade (no alcohol, so good) and the whiskey drink made with honey. We also ordered a cheese plate - OMG. Could eat that forever. 4-5 types of cheeses, fruit, bread, crackers, fig jam. So delicious and great accompaniment to the drinks. They also offer take home beer and ciders. Make this a destination if you're anywhere in the area!

Yelp
Very spacious spot in Andes for a nice cider and some bites. Make sure to stop by if you're near! There is plenty of space for hanging out in the open area or even near the bar. The menu has lots of food options too!

Yelp
Cider? Yes! This was such a great place and a complete surprise that is would be just that awesome. We were cruising through the Catskills to see what we could see on a rainy Sunday afternoon and BAM. Wayside Cider. The friendly fellow behind the bar gave us a "CAN DO" on a flight of ciders (I think they had 5 of their own plus others). We ended up having a few more glasses and bringing a few bottles home. Half Wild was my fave - but they had some super dry ciders which are such a relief in this too-sweet-supermarket-cider world. Eileen the Cider Maker was incredibly gracious to come out and talk with us about cider making. She told us of some of her new ideas and about the whole process - which was all interesting since we come from more of a beer background. Learned all about Bag in Box and Headspace? Champagne yeast? Cool! The space is so well designed for hanging out. It was just lovely. There is an additional covered bar "out back" with picnic tables and yard games. It happened to be POURING the day we visited - so be prepared for some very red mud in the driveway. All part of the charm. We will so be back!

Yelp
He place is wonderful Very good food and super friendly staff The Cider is great and very good draft beer. They use local ingredients

Yelp
I have been several times before and have had a good experience. This time the service was lackluster and the pickled vegetables plate was disappointing. They seem to brine everything in the same brine. Furthermore the brussel sprouts on the plate had few on them and was mostly the stalk where the table next to me was all brussels like I normally get. The cider is great!

Yelp
My wife Kelly and I had our rehearsal dinner over at Wayside a week ago, and we haven't received any less than 20 compliments and comments on how beautiful the space and experience was. Alex and Irene, the owners treated us like family, involving us in the finer details and decision making, but also leading the charge as experts for what we'd need. The space itself is gorgeous. There are multiple areas for seating and mingling, all bringing you a unique vibe, whether you're outside at a cool reclaimed wooden table, inside at the modern rustic bar, or upstairs in the furnished loft space which held us and 70 of our guests. The food was great, the service was great, everything was as expected and beyond. We grew to love Wayside when we would just pop in for a delicious cider, and a few hours of relaxing. The fact that they were able to keep the same vibe with our large group there was remarkable. Would recommend Wayside to the highest degree!!

Yelp
So so at best given current times. Website says one thing with regards to availability, reality is completely different. No real service, felt like a Soviet era Bar. My mask fell as I was forced to serve my group my 4 drinks and I was told I must stop immediately and put my mask back on. Won't be back!

Yelp
Love this place! We were on a New York State road trip around the Catskills and I'm so glad we stopped here. Great place to get a drink and enjoy amazing cider flavors!

Yelp
I love visiting Wayside Cider when I make a trip up to the Catskills. It's a favorite for unique ciders made from local ingredients and for its beautiful setting in the mountains. Whether you're looking for a place for a full meal, or just a few snacks to go with your drinks, their menu has it all. My repeat order is the cheese plate for 2 with local cheeses and the Skinny Dip cider. They also have beer on draft and cocktails if cider isn't your pick. If you're visiting the area be sure to stop at Wayside and spend time on their back patio to take it all in.
google avatar

Yelp
It was an unexpected find, and a quick stop, but the offerings were fantastic, the atmosphere was comfortable and wide-open. My wife tried to of the siders, they both were terrific.

Adam L.

Yelp
Fantastic! I have been coming to wayside for years. The service has always been excellent and the food/drinks are always tasty. Can't wait to come back again as the business continues to grow!

Morgan M.

Yelp
The best. If you're in the area definitely make a stop - delicious cider and the happiest vibes!!

Yelp
We had an awesome time here. My family and I sat at the bar and were hosted by a very friend bartender. We tried all of the in house ciders and my husband had a beer flight. They had a nice mix of ciders including dry, still, and a higher alcohol brandy-style one. If I lived closer I would be here all the time!

Yelp
Andes, NY feels like it is perpetually on the brink of economic collapse. It is a shame as it is a very cute and beautiful Catskills town -- close enough to NYC for a weekend away, but far enough to feel fully away from everything. However, art galleries and and antique stores come and go, and the town's one legitimate restaurant, Cantina, closed what feels like ages ago. Enter Wayside Cider. This place is flat out awesome. Beautiful space with two covered bars with indoor seating and an open are beer garden in between. The design of the place is amazing -- quarky and unique. Perfect for the setting. They clearly put money and an investment to the build-out, and it looks great. The beer garden has a big fire pit and space for bocce as well. It gets nice and lively on a nice day or warm evening. They seem to have a good amount of live music and DJs etc during holiday weekends. The food is awesome. Get one of the charcuterie boards which are all great. The salads are also great - fresh and flavorful. Of course, the cider is great and they also have some very nice wines and beers. I particularly liked the Juice Bomb IPA. It's great to see a business invest in Andes and it appears this place is here to stay -- assuming people support it with their business. I know I will whenever I am in town!

Yelp
Omigosh quintessential Catskills spot with the best cider and cheese plate I've ever had. So gorgeous sitting outside on a fall day!

Betty L.

Yelp
Way over-rated! Of the two ciders we tried, one was just ok and the other was terrible! We ordered the smoked trout along with two "snacks", the terrine, sausages. All tased good but the smoked trout was priced as an entree and portioned smaller than the snacks (over four times the price!). After we put ordered and put the menu down, he asked. Us if we wanted baguette with the terrine, we said sure. He did not mention that bread was the same price as the terrine, and that the trout came with baguette, so we already had some coming, when we pointed this out, they said, it's on the menu (we didn't memorize the menu). After we complained she took this off the bill. We then switched to beer and the first one she poured kicked the keg and only filled the glass just over half way, she said she wouldn't charge us for it. We ordered a different beer. When we went to pay, they don't let you see your check, just the total and tell you it'll be emailed so we had no idea what they were charging us for. They charged us full price for the half beer too! The food was good, the cider was just ok. Overall, for ordering at the counter, picking up your own food and drinks and take your own trash to the can, the place is over-priced and over-rated! I guess when you're one of the only places in a little town, that doesn't matter.

Yelp
A beautiful open space at the end of the Main Street in Andes. It's known for its cider and alcohol, but even the lunch is delicious. I highly recommend the cheese and vegetable platters, which are great for sharing among friends or a family.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic! Beautiful interior. Great vibe. Delicious cider. Cool folks running it. Even gave us a peek at the apple smash going on in the process. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
Great space, food is really lovely. A great place to meet people especially if you have kids. Can't recommend this place enough.

Bew R.

Yelp
Perfect place to hang with a group of friends, plenty of outdoor seating - super nice staff and yummy food. Very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and good music (that isn't too loud). If you are with a group I suggest you buy the large bottles of cider and share rather than individual glasses (cost savings is major).

Nancy E.

Yelp
Best Cider Mill in this area . Not over commercialized . Genuine people . Lovely day trip .You will enjoy this upstate exp. There are cider mills in the Otsego County area that are all about selling you something ( all of it over priced ) . This particular one is GREAT

Julia R.

Yelp
Awesome. Always get the s'mores. Alex and co are so nice and so awesome. The total atmosphere of wayside is just delightful.

Dana M.

Yelp
Let me preface this statement by saying Emily was the shit. She made the experience enjoyable. Thoroughly enjoyed her company and her recommendations! Honestly I only made this account to compliment her. Keep doing what you're doing.

Vee L.

Yelp
Love this place but don't like the attitude. I was wandering around with a friend on Main Street in Andes. I was looking for a cup of coffee but Two Old Tarts(Great coffee shop in town) did not have what I'm looking for. So my friend told me to check out at Wayside Cider, they might have coffee because they also serve some food. But in my mind I was like how the Booz place going to have a coffee. We walked in to check out the ambience, there were two groups of people sitting at the tables. There was a woman sitting at the bar talking with the bartender and a waiter nearby. So I popped my head in to ask if they have coffee. The bartender told me that they don't have but I can get from Two Old Tarts bakery. So I said thank you and figure that was going to be the case. As I stepped away from the bar area(about 5 feet away) I over heard the bartender make a joke about me coming to Booz place to ask if they have coffee. And the bartender and the woman were laughing at their joke. I want to turn to the bartender and confronted him but I didn't want to say anything at that point. I was not happy. You shouldn't make a joke out of other people.

Karen S.

Yelp
Beautiful setting. I had heard rave reviews about the cheese plate so we ordered the one to serve 5 people (approx $57). Unfortunately it consisted of one small square of cheese (approx 2 inches), one small slice of some type of meat, 2 small slice of ham, one half a hard boiled egg and a few small dishes of beets, onions, etc., 6 crackers and sliced bread. May go back for atmosphere but definitely not to eat there!
