Wayside Inn - Review - Fort Lauderdale - Miami - The Infatuation

"If you want a bar with cheap drinks that allows smoking (a dive bar, in other words), then you’ll enjoy the Wayside Inn. The bar has been a Dania Beach fixture for decades, has plenty of seating, and its TouchTunes system is set to an ideal volume for conversation. The only thing this bar is missing is a pool table. But there is a random hula hoop in the corner that you’re welcome to use if you’re craving physical activity." - Ryan Pfeffer

On the canopy it said Bar and Grill and I was coming back from the beach viewing the SS United States go by. I wanted to grab a burger or something so stopped in the place. Just down the street from the whete the old Pirates Inn was. Been there for at least 50 years. I've never been in it but I've been by it plenty of times so I thought I'd give it a try. Reminded me of the old time Taverns. The first thing that hit me was all the cigarette smoke and as an x-smoker found it quite offensive. But since I was already there I figured well I'll get myself a beer and a burger and head on my way so I ordered up a nice cold Yuengling draft and asked for a menu. The girl behind the bar said we don't serve food. I said well your canopy says Bar and Grill and she said does it ? I don't know. It seems like she didn't know a lot of stuff. So I paid for my expensive draft beer finished it and headed on my way. I don't think I'll ever be back and I don't know who can afford to drink at this little hole in the wall place. For what it is I think their draft beer should be quite a bit cheaper.

Wayside Inn was an exciting find for me as I was staying right across the street at the Tru by Hilton. I made two separate stops in one day and was welcomed during both and enjoyed my visit. Seems like it’s a local place with smoking allowed but that is something I love to find. I prefer this kind of bar to a hotel bar anyways so the location and authenticity was amazing. They also had a hula hoop on the wall I wanted to use (or see someone else use) but unfortunately never had the opportunity.

They don't serve food but it's like a old school type bar. Bartender was amazing she made great drinks for me 🙂

Google
Great local bar with a killer food truck in the parking lot on Friday nights!

If you don't smoke skip this dive bar. BTW beers are $6 not $1.50. Nope.

Do not go here if you cannot handle cigarette smoke. This bar is so great. Friendly, low key, affordable. Margie (i hope i spelled that right) is a great bartender. Killer bloody mary (maria in my case). She was extremely welcoming as were her regulars. I was in from out of town, and they made me feel at home. 10 out of 10.

It is a great locals neighborhood bar but it's smokey, kind of bummed, was hoping this could be our new little hang out. Good drinks, get your money's worth. Outside seating would be cool, where the air is clear. Definitely recommend if you don't mind the smoke.

Google
One of the better bars I've been to in a minute. Great pricing, good mixed drinks, pull tab gambling, and more. Only draw back was they smoked inside, but it was a great dive bar! Would come back!

Yelp
This place is AWESOME!!! I stayed in Ft. Lauderdale the night before my flight. This place was 0.2 miles from my hotel. I paid $8 for a beer at my hotel and decided to find a better spot. I had so much fun hanging out at Wayside. The people were friendly, the bartender amazing and you can't beat the prices. They DO NOT have food. They do have chips, but that's about it. But if you're looking for a neat place to watch a game, play pool, enjoy music, this is definitely the place. I had a great time!!

Yelp
Old school Boston bar the people you find there are incredibly friendly and I can't wait to go back

Yelp
Janet was great! She made our drinks perfect at 10A and was very friendly! This place gives off an old school "Cheers" type vibe and I loved it! The jukebox plays all types of genres!!

Yelp
Unless you want a hear an earful about politics, don't go to this place. We visited wayside earlier in the day and had a great time with the bartender and other local people. After bar hopping we decided to head back because of the great time we had. Unfortunately we were greeted with a large male employee with a weird hat who only cared about the way we voted. Never thought I'd have to raise my voice about something I consider myself in the middle about. I highly recommend coming here if you liked to be labeled a "nazi" but other than that do not go.

Yelp
Want a dive bar that's not "too divey"? Then I think the Wayside is the spot for you. And me for that matter. I started coming to Wayside a few months ago. A buddy and I were driving through his Dania Beach and he said let's grab a beer. I said "Is there a spot around here that I haven't been to?" And he asked if I I had been to the dive bar. By chance I hadn't actually so we swung on in. That first time I popped in the place was lively. About a dozen locals were there talking, laughing and cussing. Cut to two hours later and one drink turned into a few more. We had made friends with a handful of people and the bartender. We had figured out the jukebox and learned to really appreciate this hidden watering hole. You know what makes It a little better than your average towny bar? Windows. So many joints like this don't have windows for whatever reason. This spot has been been semi-recently updated with new nicks and nacks and, windows! For us somewhat claustrophobic types it's a big plus. My nemesis of smoky rooms was a small draw back. But It definitely wasn't as bad as some dive joints. There is a reason I have been back so many times in the past months. The spot is solid.

Yelp
This was #3 on an awesome UYE Dania Bar Crawl that was put together by Tim S. Truth be told, alcohol is probably a major factor in my star rating here, but I really loved this place. We were here during daylight hours, so I got a good look at the place, and overall it was pretty clean and nice! Sometimes, on a bar crawl such as this, the locals don't really appreciate newbies invading their space. Not here, we were definitely welcomed and became quite the entertainment when the hula hoop was added. The bar staff found our drunk banter and jokes to be quite hilarious, and I definitely enjoyed our time here!

Yelp
Perfect spot for a casual drink. Attentive and friendly service with cool AC. Cool to see a place like this still kicking.

Yelp
It's a dive bar and though I do like dive bars, not this one. It's grungy, dark and when busy, which is rare, little more attraction than past their prime beer guzzling alcoholics. In short, not much fun with the only redeeming factor being cheap drinks.

Yelp
This place feels like home. Drinks are cheap and strong, the clientele is made up of locals as myself. The atmosphere is always friendly and there are always new people to meet. There is poker Thursday and Sunday with Marco and trivia on Tuesday with Trivia Mark.

Yelp
Well give it a two star because they no longer offer food even though menu is still up on the side of the building. Truth in advertising- it's a big deal people. With smoking laws and restaurants you have to choose, so clearly smoking inside was in important than food-the place was thick with cigarette smoke- it even has an old-style pull knob cigarette machine. Hipster-free with only old timers at the bar - a very outgoing bunch if you know what I mean. If you're looking for a dive bar with old-school rock 'n' roll on the jukebox? Looking for a locals watering hole ? Don't mind cigarette smoke and just want to shoot the shit over some beers? this is the place -but looking for something more it's not the place.

Yelp
Nice neighborhood bar with deals on drinks and a good jukebox and sound system. Came here for the first time on a date tonight during happy hour. The place was not too crowded and had a nice mix of people. Our bartender, Valerie, is as sweet as they come! Will definitely come again! Warning though...the place is a smoking bar and if you don't smoke or can't tolerate secondhand smoke, choose another option.

Yelp
Holy crap, haven't been to a real dive bar in a decade I think. Keep trying but always end up a pretentious or over hyped places trying to be something they are not. If you young folks want to know what bars used to be like, come here. No pretending, real deal...and don't order a seltzer or dumb ass fancy mixed drink, because you won't belong!

David K.

Yelp
Food is not served here, it advertises "bar and grill" but there is no grill. They will look at you like you're an idiot if you try to get food here.

Yelp
Great bartender and lots of tv's for games and awesome music! Also it's right down the road from Dania beach. Great place to stop over before heading home from the beach or to the airport for a drink. It Rocks!!! Love love love it!!! I'm an Indian! I should know!!!

Yelp
This place has an awesome dive vibe but a little too hard core if you are interested in using the bathroom or drinking out of a glass. One time I brought a fanta grape soda in there and the bartender poured some rum right in the can, so that is awesome.

Yelp
This is my girlfriend's account, but I wanted to post a review as soon as I got back to my desk: My buddy and I stopped by for our lunch break. We didn't expect a 5-star restaurant, but a typical neighborhood bar with good burgers....and that's exactly what we got. We played a round of darts and enjoy a couple beers. The food came out so quickly and the wait staff was very nice. There is smoking, but it didn't really bother me that bad. We will definitely go back for a cheap, quick bite to eat during our lunch break very soon. Great job guys! Keep the hole-in-the-wall alive!!

Yelp
What we expected, a real working class dive bar. Bartender was quick to wait on us and the beer was cold. If in Dania and you want cold beer, here you go.

Yelp
I have to say, this bar never impressed me much until recently. It used to be a drinking only dive bar that was smokey and dark with a basic beer selection and cash only. Recently they have made many improvements, including a modern jukebox, flatscreen tv's, a food menu, and a much improved beer and liquor selection. It is still a bit smokey and is still cash only but it is inexpensive and the atmosphere is significantly improved. I had the wings and they were amazing! I found out the cook used to work at another bar that had phenomenal wings until they closed. He also makes a special wing sauce on request that is sweet and spicy delicious! Good place to grab a couple suds, eat some wings, and watch a game.

Yelp
Super dive bar status. Francis the bartender is an awesome guy, he pours great drinks and is quite the conversationalist. Booze is cheap, the Cuban sandwich kicks ass..... and as I write this a dude in a kilt just walked in. What more could you want?

Yelp
OH MY GOD! this was some of the worst food we ever had. The burger meat tasted spoiled, the lettace and tomatto was old and brown and the fries tasted like they were cooked in old motor oil..YUK! Who ever cooked this needs their foot up their arse...My wife and I will never ever go their again and the bartender wastupid drunk drinking up all the profits hahahahaha what a dive a a joint...

Nicole Y.

Yelp
I've always been drawn to a good dive bar, and since I just recently moved here from Cleveland, I decided to check this one out at my friends suggestion. Cool spot; pretty clean place, I was especially impressed how clean the bathrooms were!! Food was cheap & good, not a huge selection but covers your basic bar bites. Service was friendly & overall, it was a good time. Check it out if you're in the mood for a cheap, out of the way place to grab a drink!
