If I could give zero stars I would! ALL of my food is cold; and the fact that I paid EXTRA for Turkey and Goat because I didn’t want pork or tripe, I’m soooo mad! I had to pay a la cart because the “assorted meat “ had a bunch of stuff I didn’t want and they gave me 2 and 1/2 pieces of meat… and STILL gave me the vegetable soup with the meat I didn’t want is blowing my mind!!! Then as you can see by the little canister I placed for context, that chicken with, instead of turkey!! I also requested fried rice! So disappointed!! Do better!

The food at the restaurant is great, but the wait for catering or just buying food is much longer than you would expect. The grocery part is pretty good. The food is fresh and reasonably priced. They keep it clean and stocked.

Please reduce the amount of salt and maggi you put in your food especially the jollof beans and your fried fish. As much as we would love to eat our Nigerian food doesn’t mean we should get hypertension. Thanks. Your uncooked produce are great btw.

I placed my order on Monday but got a Friday delivery date. I am unavailable Fridays hence I called and they gave me an accommodation, offering for me to pickup Thursday. I went and EVERYTHING was ready. A true professional service (huge respects to the brother in charge of handling catering orders….he was very professional and calm). Tho in fairness, ALL the staffs were very good. I appreciate the service and including the packaging. You guys clearly know your job and you do it well. Huge respects, love and appreciation to you guys, I am your happy customer I normally buy in bulk here and always get great service and products. Today, I went and Mr. I Adetomiwa attended to me and he is the best person you’ll ever meet. His personality, service, maturity…..perfection all round. I always enjoy interacting with the staffs but this young man, so special. I told him that I will do this review because of him and will mention his name; he earned it! I am most grateful for all you guys there and the service, everything! GodBlessYou!!

I visited this African store on Memorial Day to buy fish. While they have a great selection of products and quality items overall, I was very disappointed with the service at the fish counter. The man cutting the fish, he was Hispanic was extremely slow. I waited about 15 to 20 minutes, and he was moving at his own pace, not showing any urgency even though customers were waiting. Eventually, I got tired of waiting and decided to leave without making a purchase. The store really needs to improve their service in that area. Good products are important, but so is good customer service.

Google
Imagine spending over 200 dollars on a catering service and the jollof rice is strong and tasteless….. you pay 15 dollars for a stew in the fish and they literally just give you fish with no stew. Service is literally going downward…. We need a better competitor in Houston…..

Google
Wazobia African Market is one of the best, if not the best African Markets/Store I've shopped at in Houston. I will be rating them on 3 particular areas. (1) Cleanliness (2) Price (3) Availability of stocks (4) Professionalism 1). Cleanliness: For the size of this store, I appreciate the fact that it is kept very clean, someone is always cleaning up something. It is a place we get food from, cleanliness should be a priority. 2). Price: Apart from a few items like the healthy fufu alternatives, the prices of items are quite affordable, they're not cheap, but affordable. 3). Stock Availability: Items are quite available most of the times I've been there. For example I buy puffpuff for my family and even at 8pm I could even see some left. I would say my favorite plantain chips (Mr John's- comes in a clear and yellow pack) is not as available as one would like. The type that's usually available isn't as soft as Mr John's, its quite dry (it comes in clear and green pack). Nevertheless, when Mr John's in stock, a get like 7, just in case. Most other items are usually readily available. 4). Professionalism: I know for certain, the owner must have drilled Professionalism into the workers because they are always on point. I've been to some other African/Nigerian stores and it feels like they're doing you a favor when its you giving them business. At Wazobia, the customer service is stellar. All in all, I would give them a 5 star, check them out, trust me after one visit, you'd make them your regular African store.

This is the location my husband likes to go as it has more African items from his country. We drive from Rosenberg. The staff has been nice and attentive so far. Thank you all!

Yelp
The supermarket was well kept, clean and organized unlike many African markets in the East Coast. There was a "hot food" section which allows customers to pick food themselves which may be a food safety concern because some food cases were left open and some items looks picked through. I was going to try the scotch egg and realized that the case that it was in was pretty cold. I went next door to the restaurant portion and they had hot scotch eggs but it had no flavor. I would only visit the market for the plentiful grocery options but not the hot food.

Yelp
Wazobia, you guys are a joke. You have the audacity to charge $23.79 for a plate of rice only to get protein that's fit for a bird! The greed is unreal. The only good thing is that you guys open on Mondays.

Janet E.

Yelp
The service is terrible and you will wait and wait and WAIT AND WAIT AND WAIT EH! The food is good but not worth the demeanor and behavior of the staff. The lack proper structure and process to manage the customers

Yelp
I love eating Nigerian food. The Jollof Rice is by far the best rice I've ever tasted. The rice is full of flavor with just the rice spice. The Red Stew is so good and definitely a favorite of mines. The restaurant is very small but cute. They have a small sit down area as well. The customer service is good as well.

Grace O.

Yelp
The food is good . The public relationship of the restaurant staff is excellent. Deliverance is on time too.

Yelp
Thieves! Thieves! Thieves! They weighed my meat in the box and tried to charge me for the weight of the box and plastic that the meat comes in. They minced my oxtail and refused to replace it. HENRY is a crooked and is not customer service oriented. DO NOT SHOP HERE!

Yelp
Best place to get a essence of Africa! And the food is good in fact I'm going now. It's also a market so u can buy your African groceries here like red palm oil and digestive biscuits hahaha

Yelp
This is an African food market that is adjourned to a restaurant selling food to dine in or take out. Most take out. I came here because a coworker was kind enough to share his plantain chips with me and I was instantly addicted! The taste is so much like delicious fried sweet plantain. He also told me they have good pepper soup which is so simple but my favorite Nigerian dish that I came across since I have so many Nigerian friends. The goat meat pepper soup is spicy and delicious. It's simple comfort food to me. I will be here often. Especially to get the soup through the colder months. The market part of the establishment sells dry goods, fresh produce that is a staple in Nigerian cuisine, frozen food stuffs, beverages, and calling cards. Pretty popular place. I like it!!!

Yelp
I live near this location and have visited multiple times. I gave them numerous chances they are just too inconsistent. I watched the server intentionally select the pictured beef meat. There was no meat on the steamtable and she went to get more and returned with this burnt mess! Sometimes the food is overcooked, burnt and sometimes it's good and fresh. They are too inconsistent for me!

Yelp
Exceptional service from beginning to the end! My Darling MIL had a taste for meat pie and wanted to get some for the travel back home and when we walked in we were greeted with smiling faces and generosity. The meat pie took a while but the employees wanted for us to be satisfied, which to me was pretty damn awesome in my book... The fish roll, Fish pie, and meat pie were all on point and hot right out the oven YESSSS! Felt like a winner! If you are ever in the area and have a taste for Nigerian snacks try this spot! I don't mind traveling from the north side for their food! #NigeriaFoodforthewin

Yelp
This food was so disgusting. The jollof rice tasted burnt and had no flavor and the oha soup was thick and bland there was only 1 piece of chicken, cow tongue, and tripe. I am a cook and know how to cook jollof rice and have been to Lagos so I know what it's supposed to taste like. When I asked for a refund they told me they don't allow refunds. By law they must have a sign that says NO REFUNDS but they didn't so I WILL NEVER come back here.

Yelp
Better than expected. Had heard about this place from a coworker. I looked their website up and was surprised the kitchen offers online ordering. I placed my order and received an immediate text then a follow-up confirmation call. Very pleased at how tech savvy they are. Ease of ordering was great, customer service was good. SO on to the food.... When picking up an online order, GO TO THE KITCHEN NEXT DOOR, not the grocery market. Even though the grocery market has a snack bar area, that is not where you pick up your food. If I hadn't asked, I would have continued standing around for nothing but the market snack bar had: small jollof rice plates packaged in an aluminum container with plastic lid, scotch eggs, some meat pies and I think I remember seeing sausage rolls. All self serve. I picked up some scotch eggs which were good. I disliked the separation and thin coating of the sausage/breading because I could see the egg showing in certain places. But it still tasted good. The market is sparse like some other reviewers had mentioned. I only needed Maggi and the cashier was kind enough to literally RUN and grab it for me because I had asked where could I find it since I missed it when I perused through the shelves. That was so kind! I think they had a bakery to the right (wasn't paying attention) as soon as you walk in, about three aisles of grocery store items, a small fresh meat deli/butcher section. On to the food for real... I ordered a ton of food because I am impatient and my schedule doesn't allow me to drive to this location as often as I'd like. So I ordered the jollof rice plate with extra goat meat and shaki (the jollof rice plate is just the jollof so "extra" meat means adding to the rice not that they provide goat meat and shaki initially if that makes sense), meat pie (meat was too soft and the pie was too thick for my liking), chicken pie (chicken was spicy which was surprisingly good and shredded for some reason I thought it would be minced, but the chicken was dry, would have enjoyed this more if there was a dipping sauce or something), catfish pepper soup (FYI is available after 3PM), goat pepper soup and beef/sausage rolls. My favorite was the beef/sausage rolls! It is advertised on their website as a beef roll but it definitely tastes like sausage and in the description it said sausage. It is long, the crust is perfect, and I'm so glad i ordered a lot of these because I can freeze them and bring them out later. They packaged all my items WELL, nothing spilled over or made a mess when I got home and unpacked. Even with an online order, you still have to wait in line. The line can be long and if a customer is indecisive or has a big order, yep you still have to wait. I also didn't like how customers had already placed their order/been attended to but were milling about in front of the counter as if they were waiting to be served which made it confusing if they were in line or had already been serviced but waiting for their food. I'd support the restaurant/kitchen again.

Yelp
I have tried a lot of different things in the kitchen. Although I have only been to the one on beechnut. The one thing I love from them is the most disappointing thing, the catfish stew with just one fish for $11, the stew is good and tasty with awesome spicy kick . The egusi is ok but no one want muscle everytime come up with a better meat combination. The efo has no taste to me so is the meat pie, fish pie is good and the beef roll is also good, scotch egg is good, stew is good but their designer stew needs work. Why would anyone pay $14.99 for nkwobi in a small bowl when i can go down the street and get a bigger bowl for 10.99. Fried fish, turkey, chicken and grilled chicken are good but no seasoning. Pepper goatmeat is good but too many bones and not enough meat. Pepper meat is good. Tried the jollof rice and it was blend, goatmeat pepper is ok, catfish pepper has one fish.

Yelp
Love this market! I will always make a point to visit when I'm in town. Missing the fried rice already.

Yelp
The absolute, hands-down, worst service ever!! My husband called in an order, having been on the phone for greater than 10 minutes, for me to get there for pickup and be told an order was never placed. I offered the young lady attending me to speak with him via phone and was met with an impatient attitude as if she were not being paid to be there. What I find simply amazing is the fact that if a white patron came in they would likely roll out the red carpet, yet they treat their loyal customers like trash. Well, guess what, that one visit a year from a white patron cannot pay your bills! Never again will I patronize this business, as this is the second time I have been met with such disrespect, disorganization, and rudeness!! By the way, I get home to find one of the plantains we ordered already had a bite in it, see picture below. Neither I, nor our daughter, opened any of the containers before getting home.

Yelp
I pop into Wazobia for ready-to-eat food and snacks. Their jollof rice was incredible until today. I don't know what happened, but this is not the rice I can't wait to rush home and devour. For this jollof rice, I can wait for a tasty one.

Funnie O.

Yelp
I am impressed with the growth this business has seen. It has cleaned up its act, figuratively and literally, and the customer service is really good. The store and restaurant are much cleaner than they used to be and you can tell they've done a lot of work to improve their processes (e.g., online catering). Please keep it up and continue to improve the store, your products, customer service, etc. I ordered some catering for the week online and it was ready the next day with consistent communication via text message to let me know the status of my order. The servers in the restaurant were very helpful and friendly. Thanks!

Yelp
The best African Markets in Houston. Their food and service is consistent, the employees always greet with a smiling face. Kudos to the owner for raising the quality standard in the Diaspora food industry and really reaching out to the community. Get the food next door, it's all delicious and freshly made. I will keep coming back!

Immaculata O.

Yelp
The kitchen staff need to manage their time well. They need to make sure that they meet up with the pick up time. I almost rejected the food I ordered due to poor time managemen.
google avatar

Asabe H.

Yelp
Well organized compared to some other Africa stores . Staffs are always willing and available to help . You always get to see someone around to ask for help .
google avatar

Yelp
Very neat and affordable market. Though it's really far from where I stay, it was worth the drive. The meals are fresh and very tasty.
google avatar

D'Nia M.

Yelp
Love this place! You can get ginormous and yummy Puff Puff for $0.50, the meat pies are large and delicious--$1.50, and the amazing Jollof Rice meals come with your choice of fish or chicken all for $4.50! I'm so happy I found this place!

Yasir d.

Yelp
5/5. Drove 35 minutes for my craving for Egusi, and they did not fail me. Walked right in, and was greeted with a smile and a lovely aroma of delicious food. I ordered goat egusi, and got fufu (they also have amala, eba and other choices). I got my food to go, and was happy to find that when I got home from another 35 minute drive, and my egusi was still piping hot, and my fufu still steaming and fresh. Would 10/10 recommend this location if you're craving delicious Nigerian food.

Oge O.

Yelp
Goat meat Pepper soup was absolutely delicioussss. Egusi was just ok it wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't too good and the meat was seriously lacking I asked for assorted meat and got one piece of stockfish, 1 piece of beef and a tiny piece of tendon. It was just ok but the lack of meat made me almost feel cheated , I'll go back for the goat meat pepper soup bcz it was so so so good! Never even knew such a place existed in fort bend.

Foodie R.

Yelp
I prefer Southwest farmers market but this will do. They don't have as much options but again this will do

Jay P.

Yelp
Really glad I tried it out, unfortunately my taste buds did not agree with the savor. A delicacy for African tribes is a fish which they add to many of their dishes. Dishes that I tried tasted like old fish residue (which is how they love it) but again not for me. The waitress was really nice, however, after so many questions we had she got annoyed or bothered. She did tried to cover it up and I guess it didn't kill me seeing her expression. Will not be back.

Ameen T.

Yelp
Very rude set of workers all over. The fact is even if you are getting the food for free no one deserves that type of treatment because you will still be annoyed. Very bad customer service and rude people. Just came after years and remembered why why I stopped coming.

Christy H.

Yelp
Excellent food and good groceries. Really good food!!!!! Shish Kebob out of this world. The best Chicken and meet pies. Really good meat rolls. Great Location.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Good customer service however, the prices are very high. Paid, $12.99 for smoked fish and found same amount of smoked fish at Fiesta for $5.00.

Akintayo O.

Yelp
Love the catfish stew, it's spicy and delicious at the same time. My only problem is that you'll have to buy two plates of rice to accompany the stew but it's worth it.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
This store has remained my fav for going on 2 years now. Every time my guest from out of state comes I order from the restaurant, the food delivery girl always prompt with her services. I like this place and I didn't hesitate to give it 5

Debbie A.

Yelp
I don't leave reviews often but I want people to know how exceptional the service is at this store. Whenever I go to an African market the customer service is always terrible they make me feel as if I need them more than they need my service, but Wazobia is the exception! They have a great selection of grocery stuff and their restaurant is consistently good, keep it up Wazobia!
google avatar

Ebbony H.

Yelp
My boyfriend brought me some jollof rice from here and it was soooooo freaking delicious I will be back!

Nero L.

Yelp
Really decent food and service. Clean location, will return for sure
