My 9-year-old daughter had a private lesson with James and we were both so impressed. He was wonderful with her: patient, clear with information/instructions, and personable. She got up on the surf board quicker than I expected and had a blast! She’s been teaching us all of the things she learned about the ocean and surfing ever since. 10/10!

Our son has attended WB Surf Camp the last three years. The first 2 summers he only went for one week at the Topsail Beach location, then this year he attended the 2 week Surf and Adventure camp in Costa Rica. He is 16 years old. We had complete confidence in enrolling him each time. The staff are kind, considerate and dedicated both to safety and fun for these groups. They did a great job keeping parents updated and kids safe. I highly recommend either the week in NC or a camp abroad without hesitation.

Our daughter (11) attended her first sleep away camp at WB Surf (Odyssey) camp and LOVED it! She was comfortable, had tons of fun, stayed engaged and came back more confident and grown. While all counselors were great, Riley and Peter really stood out to her as amazing!! According to our daughter, it was the “best week of her life”! We plan to send her back next year-maybe for two consecutive weeks.

My daughter was apart of the Guppy Camp last week and I could not be happier about the camp!! From start to finish, the instructors were incredible (so kind, encouraging, and made her feel so loved), all of the amazing activities she got to do this week (holy moly!!! It was jam packed with fun!), she learned a ton, and all of the little details that make such a difference too! She had a take home book at the end with little notes from the other campers to keep and a printed out photo that says GUPPY CAMP!!! Truly amazing experience and I can’t wait to enroll her in another camp with WB SURF CAMP! 🥰😍 If you’re on the fence for yourself or child, just sign up!! You’ll be so glad you did!

My teen attended the teen overnight program in June (his third year.) Every year, he asks for it to be the summer camp we prioritize for the following year. The counselors and activities this year outdid even the prior two experiences - his favorite year yet! To my surprise, he even loved the food (who enjoys camp food?). Based on his stories, the counselors were attentive and made time/effort to connect with each of the campers on a personal level. He always learns a lot and has an understanding of wave mechanics, surfing, and marine conservation. Camp administrators were also patient with me, working with us on a late schedule change (my mistake) with understanding. We love this camp! We plan to send our younger child next year as well. For those flying in - we've done that as well and staff updated us on our son's status regularly.

This was our teenage daughter's third summer attending WB Surf camp! She begs to stay longer each summer and she stayed for two consecutive sessions this time around. We feel extremely confident in the counselors and leadership running the camp and the campers safety in the water is top priority. We are big fans of their "no tech" policy during a campers stay and our teen remarked when she got home that she didn't even miss her phone during her two weeks without it. Our daughter has made life long friends that she goes back to camp with each summer. By the end of her sessions she said the camp counselors and campers felt like family. Her Dad and I are grateful that now she has the experience and knowledge to have fun safely surfing in open water all thanks to WB!

Just turned 39 and always wanted to learn to surf. Went through 2 sessions and Jeb was a great instructor with helping learn all the basics. Was perfect beginner session to learn how to get up and ride down line. Will certainly be back as I surf more and go more advanced in some sessions.

We had Haley as our instructor and she was absolutely amazing! She was so incredibly patient with both of my girls who are 12 and 10 and had never been surfing before. Both of my girls stood up on the board within the first couple of tries and Haley kept encouraging them the entire time. I would highly recommend lessons and more specifically lessons from Haley!

Yelp
WB Surf Camp is our best investment of summer 2022. Our instructor Jacob was great for my 15yo and 12yo kids, and I'm relying on their comments to make this review. Jacob made sure the kids mastered one skill before he introduced the next, and guided them to make their own choices about which waves to try. He offered really constructive advice as they learned balance and got their footing. He was enthusiastic, and he was just as excited as the kids were when they stood up for the first time. The kids had a great teaching experience, AND they caught some good waves! In addition, I really appreciated that the instructors check the conditions before lessons and making sure it was a safe environment to learn to surf for the first time. When an offshore storm made the conditions too rough for first time surfers, Jacob recommended we wait a day, and WB Surf Camp was able to adjust our lesson times to ensure everyone would have a safe and fun time in the waves. I felt confident entrusting my kids' in their care. We highly recommend Jacob and WB Surf Camp!

Yelp
I wanted to give a big shout out to WB Surf camp for everything they did to try and make the camp work this summer for my daughter. After attending the summer of 2019 and having the best time, she could not wait to go again in 2020. Alas, COVID restrictions between Illinois and North Carolina make it impossible to happen, but the staff was very professional and courteous in trying to make things work out. You really find out a lot about a business during the hard times, and WB Surf did everything they could to make it work out. She is so looking forward to next year.

Yelp
"WE LOST OUR SON TO NC BECAUSE OF WB SURF CAMP!" AND WE COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. Why have we lost our son? Because now that he has experienced the ocean, he has blossomed and has now changed his life plans....he will be applying to UNCW in two years. Why is that a problem? We live in MISSOURI! I guess it's time to fix up the house and polish our resumes, so we can move to North Carolina near him. When you find something that is *so right*, you gotta tell other people. THIS is one of those *so right* things. AMAZING. FANTASTIC. KID-CENTERED. EDUCATION-ORIENTED. SAFE. TREND SETTING. THRILL SEEKING. LIFE CHANGING. BREAKAWAY. The counselors at the WB Surf Camp have each week's curriculum fine tuned to provide an intense experience for the children. It's a beautiful mix that includes considerable surf time, thorough pre-surf instruction, substantial personal contact, important interactive social time, moderated inclusion groups, planned off-site trips, and even activities that made camp food edible (HA!). It's *so right* that I'd like to pose a challenge to you. If at all possible, put away $100 per month. Forego Starbucks or a couple of dinners-out. Be disciplined. When it comes time to pay for this camp, it won't hurt as much because you'll have most of the money already saved. This isn't a cheap camp. But, nor is it some gym camp that has the children tossing basketballs for an hour, swimming with a bunch of other bored kids, then sitting in front of a computer until parents pick them up (I've worked those camps as a counselor.....you know it's the most brand recognized non-profit on the planet). This camp is the REAL DEAL. This is hands on, personal, fist clenching, pure grit steep learning curve stuff. Then it's accomplishment, camaraderie and satisfaction. Jeff, our child's counselor, even personally phoned us and gave us his cell phone number, so we could stay in contact. WE have been saving $100 per month since he got back. He's going to return to the next level camp next year. Having lost our son to the ocean and to North Carolina college because of the rad, hip, cool (sorry, those are the words I use) counselors isn't such a bad thing. Nothing wrong with Missouri, but when I visit him during summer and spring breaks, it'll be near the beautiful ocean. And drinking a margarita on the beach will add a whole new dimension to Parent's Weekend.

Yelp
I just returned home from the adult women's surf camp in Wrightsville, NC. There were 13 students to the 5 instructors (Mike, Ben, Katie, Grace, Kevin), and Jennifer was the Yoga Instructor. We were up and out the door by 8am every morning. Because of the weather they were unable to keep to the schedule we were issued, but we were guaranteed to be exhausted by the time dinner was over. Everyday we surfed for a minimum of 2 hours (choppy conditions), to 4 hours (glassy). We visited the Sea Turtle Hospital and surf shop, surfed Masonboro Island, evening in downtown Wilmington, dinner out every night, yoga everyday, and we stayed on the beach in Wrightsville (Shell Island Resort). Grace was my instructor. She was very patient and informative. Really seemed to enjoy her job. The team was very nice, fun to be around, and patient. Thank you for everything. I had a blast!
