Where to Eat and Drink in Crystal City - Eater DC

"This homegrown chain from Top Chef alum Spike Mendelsohn offers gourmet pizzas whole or by the slice. The “Butcher’s Block” — made with tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, ham, and Applewood-smoked bacon — is among the most popular. — Lenore Atkins" - Lenore Adkins, Missy Frederick

Google
How to turn a decent pizza slice into un eatable ? Toss a fully cooked slice of pizza into an oven to warm but and forget it’s there. That is what happened to most of our cloves at this place. When the cashier is also warming slices, they lose track of the time. It’s already cooked, so just warm it for a min. These were mostly tasteless and burnt. I’d rather eat a shoe than ever return here. We, the customer will not be returning to we, the pizza.

Google
Reservation for a large group about 60 middle schoolers. The staff was very efficient and professional. The food came out fast and they enjoyed the pizza, salad and ice cream. Good job !!! I recommend

Google
The food was good, although it was not NY style as advertised, but still good pizza. The only reason it was 3/5 for the atmosphere was that a large youth tour group was there and with only 1 soda machine right next to our booth, it was uncomfortable. The kids were standing next to us while we tried to eat and they were waiting to get their beverage.

Google
Had a nice marketplace slice here! Management is very nice and employees are efficient. Will be back!

Google
My husband and I have ordered from this location MANY times. The pizzas are always great! What really made me come here to write this review is that we got a take out order today (05/2025). I ran in to grab the pizzas and went to cross the street to get back to my husband waiting in the car. There was construction and the road was super uneven and I tripped...hard. Like... faceplant in the concrete. The pizza broke my fall. Apparently someone in the shop saw it happen and they went to the trouble to look up my order and called us to see if we needed them to make a new pizza. Thank you, it was super thoughtful! (I absolutely love the fall squash pizza that you no longer have at this location, I would love you forever if you brought it back :) and sorry if I flashed you)

Google
Ok, I was bit upset getting only 2 slices and a beer for $20, but that is just me not coming to terms with the world we live in now. Two bites later, I regret not getting a whole pie. Strongly recommend. Good thin crust done correctly!

Google
A had the ham and pineapple with pepperoni and sausage! That pizza was delicious. It was fresh and hot! I definitely would recommend this

Google
Great little spot to hit when in town. Large slices for reasonable prices. Service is usually quick and cook time takes about 5 minutes once you pay.

Yelp
Great stop after our Capitol tour. Pizza and garlic knots were a hit for everyone. If you're a ranch lover, it's made in house. Coke products. Checks all the pizza boxes for us!

Yelp
We, The Pizza's first location was in Capitol Hill, and they have expanded with additional spots (Ballston, U Street, and Clearwater Beach) - from the Mendelsohn family, they serve pizza by the slice or medium/large sizes, knots, wings, and salads. We recently had We, The Pizza cater to an event, ordering: +Sriracha Hot & Honey Sweet wings +Lemony Garlic & Parm wings +Chipotle BBQ wings +Simple Cheese Pie - with tomato sauce, mozz, and oregano +Forest Shroomin' - with wild forest mushrooms, truffles, mozza, thyme, bechamel, and Parm +White Pie - with ricotta, Parm, mozz, roasted garlic, sea salt, olive oil, and Italian parsley +Buffalo Chicken - with spicy boneless chicken, blue cheese, mozz, and Jose's hot sauce +Margherita Burrata - with crushed tomato sauce, Parm, burrata, and basil +and, the Marketplace - with tomato sauce, mozz, roasted tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, red onions, and oregano The crust is thin; pies can get soggy quickly, if it's not consumed right away. Probably consuming at the restaurant is best, rather than to do delivery/carryout. Wings were large and meaty, but they could have been cooked longer. Staff were friendly! +thin crust; can get soggy +eat on site! +meaty wings +friendly service

Yelp
Recommended by the slice. Came in for a late walk in lunch, grabbing a slice of double pepperoni & pineapple & ham. They were served quickly, but the double pepperoni was burned on the bottom. The ham & pineapple was good, total $12.60 with tax for the two pizza slices. Spot next to the window allowed me to people watch those on the street. Staff were pleasant & prompt. Slices are good sized, and one can probably do most people for lunch. "Grade B" for the burned slice.

Yelp
Overall tasty pizza with solid toppings and flavor. Pizza is on the thicker crust side, but it's definitely crusty. Service was decent and relatively quick. There's a nice outdoor seating area.
google avatar

Yelp
Great pizza and even better with the lunch deal that includes two slices and a fountain drink. Pizza slices are large and most people only need one. I got two and brought one home to eat later. Staff was friendly and our food was ready in a reasonable amount of time. Great lunch spot!

Yelp
First time at, "We, The Pizza," in Crystal City, VA. We, The Pizza was not expensive and had a good variety of pizzas such as; Bacon Me Crazy, Honey Ham Pineapple, Double Pepperoni, White Pizza, Buffalo Chicken Pizza, vegetarian pizza etc. I ordered the lunch special (2 slices + 1 soda=$13.50) and tried the white pizza and double pepperoni both were delicious but my favorite was the double pepperoni. We, The Pizza also has salads, chicken wings and beer. The service was great with indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant was very clean. Give this place a try when in the area. Happy Yelping :)

Yelp
Delicious pizza and garlic knots! Easy ordering online, pick up was a breeze! Very friendly and helpful employees at such a busy location. Thanks again

Yelp
As a first timer here, I was impressed by the aroma upon entering. I was greeted young man, he took my order. I chose to dine. I was looking for a place to sit and wait for my pizza but every table was dirty. I had to wait for someone to come clean the tables and chairs off the place wasn't busy at all. Employees were around talking not making sure the eat in environment was clean.

Yelp
Went when we were very hungry and other places in Crystal City were starting to close for the evening. Thankfully there were still plenty of slices available to choose from at that time, so we got a selection of fourth different pizza slices. The slices were served HOT! The simple cheese and mushroom pizzas were my favorites.

Sean B.

Yelp
My favorite place for pizza by the slice when I am in crystal city. I haven't had a bad slice here after 5 visits. Service is great. Everyone is friendly and upbeat. The crust and toppings are high quality and the selection is very diverse.

Yelp
Delivery took about an hour. Too long for a place half mile away. The flavor on this was very good. The crust had a very nice flavor but as the pizza arrived cold it was way too chewy to say it was a great pie. The taste of oregano was a nice touch. I have had the supreme pizza in the past and it was a 10/10. This was a 7.7 but I'm sure it would be much better fresh.

Yelp
Ok I have found my favorite pizza spot in D.C. area. We, The pizza makes pizza the way that I prefer. I walked in and was greeted by everyone, nice friendly atmosphere. There were people from all walks of life ordering and eating, my type of place. I ordered a slice of buffalo chicken and a slice of double pepperoni and they were awesome. When I come to the area I will stop in again. Job well done .

Yelp
This was a good pizza experience. I had experienced the location on Pennsylvania Avenue, previously, and this one seemed to be an overall better experience. I like how sturdy the pizza was and the ratio of crust to bottom side of the pizza. I had quite a few protein toppings and the slices stood up well without folding. This pizza is a step above national chain pizza however not in the same league as artisan pizza which I believe invest more in the detail of the sauce, toppings, and dough quality. For pizza parlors this is probably as good as it will get. I did order chicken wings however I was not impressed by how dry the chicken wings were. And considering how close in price chicken wings are to pizza pies it certainly is disappointing when the wings are not good. If you're in the area give them a try.

Yelp
I feel like Dave Portnoy as I write this review, but I popped into We, the Pizza after the gym the other day. And it was everything i could have expected. Multiple specialty pies cooked and ready to be reheated to order. Everything was quick and very straight forward. The pizza was good but that's it. Wasn't bad , wasn't life changingly good either. Guy behind the counter was quick and easy to work with, So I appreciate that as well. For the convenience and the price I'm sure i will be here multiple times again as I'm working in the area for the next few months.

Yelp
The dough - and the pizza in general - at this place is fantastic. In fact, the whole experience was very good (décor, speed, location, staff friendliness). We had the Butcher's Block and it was very yummy. Lots of toppings and the right balance of cheese and sauce. The tables were a little small for pizza eating (if you were to order a whole pizza) so I'd advise you to take this one on the road and enjoy it somewhere else (park, home, etc.). If I had one of these closer to home I'd drop in for sure.

Yelp
This was an unplanned stop after grabbing some Coldstone ice cream. Not the healthiest day but one of the happiest. This was absolutely delicious! This is the closest I've come to New York style pizza with quality ingredients. The crust was soft yet it had a crunch (not overly doughy), the sauce was nicely seasoned and (not overly sweet or tart), and the pepperoni was crunchy. One slice was rather large and more than enough for a full meal for one person. Small eating area inside and there are benches outside as well. It was so good, I would definitely recommend trying this place. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Rob D.

Yelp
The pizza was above average. Decent price for a slice. Friendly staff even offered a cup for water. Good music. Would come back for sure
google avatar

Tracy H.

Yelp
Still 4 stars because of nit picking--like the napkins was empty, the Parmesan was empty, no ice, etc. but the food was delicious (could've been a little hotter but alas).
google avatar

Yan W.

Yelp
It's pizza. It's what you expect. It's good. It's well prepared. Nothing too fancy but you can get a slice for around $7 plus tax and it makes a decent light meal. I got the farmers market which was good and tasty.

Ironlung M.

Yelp
Pizza is dry could use sauce taste like a day old slice not thanks for the old pizza slice how do you fuck up a plain cheese slice go to this place and find out
google avatar

Max B.

Yelp
I was genuinely impressed by their Delicious Veg Sicilian pizza. I had low expectations given that it didn't have cheese. But the oily crust and the hearty vegetables piled on top made for a rich experience. It was still a little cold in the middle so you may want to ask them to keep it in the over a little longer to heat up all those veggies. The woman in white who took my order was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Props for having pizza by the slice that's vegan. I'd love to see them grow into some of the delicious plant based cheeses out there. But if I'm ever in the need of a quick bite I won't hesitate to drop in WTP.

Yelp
It's good. Nothing special. They do have alcohol so maybe the drunk cravings will make it taste amazing Not bad.

K.M R.

Yelp
Pizza was very good! Service was fast. I did have to remind them about 2 items that were not in the takeaway order but they remedied it quickly. Staff was kind and attentive
google avatar

Yelp
Second time trying We, The Pizza and very disappointed. This pizza used to be so good, but now it is below average. Asked for specific ingredients but the order was still wrong.
google avatar

Shane H.

Yelp
Was my favorite pizza place until they stopped having the gluten free crust. It's always the same excuse "not enough people buy them." Clearly you've never had a food allergy or food intolerance. I guess it's back to Domino's
google avatar

Savy S.

Yelp
food was crap. Overcooked and tasted like the dough was made from something stale also... i saw two roaches come out of kitchen and at counter
google avatar

Anthony B.

Yelp
Great pizza and Wings! Definitely loved the selection! Could smell this place from down the block!
google avatar

Eclectic ..

Yelp
Firstly, as someone who is a big foodie & as my first stop in the DMV. Slightly disappointed in this experience. Food - We had a medium pizza split by the Buffalo Chicken & Margherita Burrata. if you can't tell from the pics, extremely oily & a bit goopy. Dough wasn't cooked thoroughly & pizza wasn't even cut for us... As a lover of ranch - also, disappointing - it gives more of a tartar taste. Secondly, Service - it was more transactional, nothing "exceptional" or anything to note that would up the rating. Lastly, the ambiance - An important piece! Well, floor was sticky, looked like fanta was spilled by the beverage area, & no paper towels in the restroom... I will say, they did play some bops, great music curation. Census - We, The People, do not back We, The pizza

Yelp
What a delightful pizza place. Being from Long Island, I can get very picky about my pizza. My wife and are were looking for a light dinner after a full day in Virginia. We, the Pizza was perfect. Just a short walk from our hotel, it was totally convenient. Crystal City is a hopping neighborhood with wonderful restaurants and shops. We The Pizza definitely followed this pattern. When you walk in your greeted with a selection of all the pizzas they make. Quite the assortment. I had the Buffalo Chicken while my wife had the mushroom pizza. You go to the register where you order and pay. The team member gives you the cup for the self serve soda then puts your pizza in quick oven. Take a seat, give them a few minutes Neil they call your name. All the pizza goes into a box and you can eat indoors or outside where they have ample seating. The pizza was very tasty and the mushroom and chicken toppings were ample. So good that my wife and I shared another plain slice. If you're in the area and crave a slice, I certainly recommend We, the Pizza.

Yelp
This is a pretty decent pizza shop in the area. The pizza put on display look deliciously amazing. I have been here on two separate occasion so far and it seems like any slice you order, regardless of what it is, is $5.50. Forest Shroomin' Slice is great for those who love mushroom. Vegetarian Sicilian Slice wasn't really worth the money as it was just bread and not as much toppings as I'd hope. Hawaiian and Buffalo Chicken are also good. Service is hit or miss. My first visit the person who took my order was not very enthusiastic, while my second visit, the staff member was a lot friendlier and a pleasure to chat with.
google avatar

Addison K.

Yelp
Okay, this place was absolutely amazing. My family and I had this pizza three times out of the four days we visited DC. The double pepperoni pizza was our go to. The workers there work quite fast and even when we had it doordashed the delivery was quick and the pizza was still hot.
google avatar

DeeDee C.

Yelp
The pizza was amazing. Hot and a pretty big slice and well priced. I got the Hawaiian pizza and everything was made perfectly. I also got the siracha wings. Those were good. Cooked crisped and had a spicy kick to them as well. The cream soda was not a hit for me. Too much ice cream or whipped cream. Not too sure what it was added to it. I will be back to try other pizza flavors
google avatar

Evelyn L.

Yelp
Pizza was incredible. We ordered 4 slices and every single one of them was perfection. However, we sat and waited over 30 minutes for our food, when there wasn't much people inside the establishment waiting, so that's why I gave it a 4/5. Other than that, I loved it.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
We The Pizza can be convenient when you're in the area. They have a diverse variety of types of pizza by the slice. The service is quick. There's indoor and outdoor seating. If you're looking for pizza by the slice in Crystal City (at least if you don't want to go to Pentagon City), this is your only option. And the good news is that the service is good and the food isn't bad. If you're looking to order a full pizza, though, and want traditional toppings, there are a number of places I'd prefer nearby. I most often order from La Bettola on 23rd street, but I'd also prefer a couple of other places within a few miles. And, if there's not a big difference in convenience, I'd give a slight edge to the Pentagon City location of Wise Guy's Pizza for pizza by the slice.
google avatar

Carl C.

Yelp
Visited this location on and off for several years when I'm in the area. So glad it still is in the Crystal City area. It has a choices for individual slices, whether they br protein filled or veggie filled pies. If you are a NYC thin slice pizza fan, you will probably be disappointed. Yup, their pizza are closer to Chicago style, but not exactly. The slices are more of a hybrid of the two, but they do have a couple pies that are thinner. They have a few choices in beers and other beverages. While it hasn't changed much since opening many years ago, it has become a local mainstay. Cleanliness, friendliness of staff and service of the place will be dependent on who is working and how busy the place will be. Yes, it can be touristy during busy months, but it does get touristy in Crystal City. Although it is a small area, it does indeed have tables in front of the restaurant, as well as tables inside the adjoining hallway. If you want a quick pickup pizza place to go with quite a few choices when you're in the area, then this is your place to go.
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
A local feel and good pizza. My butcher block pizza was a little overbaked bc the crust and meats were chewy. Be prepared for salt. Service is nice but I did take out. They host a lot of parties with touring groups... so if you're looking to come on a weeknight, be prepared for lots of middle schoolers.
google avatar

Sherene A.

Yelp
Just say no. Pizza is very very dry Tried 4 slices. They burned the burrata one badly. Everything is quite bland and dry.

Soy L.

Yelp
I had the Detroit large pie and it was $26. It was tasty and I liked the tangy sauce but the price was a bit steep. Unfortunately, two of the slices had their cheese stuck to the underside of the box so I'd say the box may be too thin for this style of pizza. I expect to return despite the mishap. The place seemed to have a nice selection of food and drinks. They also had a nice early 80s soundtrack which every age group (I think) would have enjoyed.

Leah M.

Yelp
Service is horrendous- they keep talking to each other instead of working. Food was great once but now it is too salty and oily.
google avatar

Helene H.

Yelp
It's so hard to find good pizza in this area, and we the pizza is super tasty. The staff is friendly, and there's a lot of seating inside and out.
google avatar

Jenny H.

Yelp
We were in town for the weekend and had the opportunity to visit this location of the local chain. \\ pie \ half greek, half honey ham and pineapple - the ingredients were fresh and worked well in unison - the pie had the most impressive sort of cheese pull - crust wasn't too thick Overall, a great pizza. We liked that the pie was baked to order. They also sell huge individual reheated slices. A large pie (8 slices) was plenty for our group of four.
google avatar

William G.

Yelp
One Bite, everyone knows the rules! This place is way over priced for the size and quality of their pizza. $5 for such small slices is ridiculous. The pizza is basic, nothing special.
google avatar

Balraj B.

Yelp
Have steadily declined and carryout last time was a disaster. The bacon in the pizza was overdone to start with and burnt to cinder after further cooking in their oven or whatever they use. What bothers me is the individual who took the pizza out, cut it and boxed it must seen that but chose to close the the lid and give it to the customer. Wrote to the management via their website but it has evoked no response, hence it might be good idea in future to check before leaving the store.
google avatar

Tony T.

Yelp
Nice place, a good variety of slices ready to heat, and whole pies to order. I got Forest Shroomin', and Buffalo Chicken; would go back and get Forest Shroomin'. Unfortunately the 32° draft beer was not... Good, would go back, but would not be my Go-To-Pizza-Place...
google avatar

Alex V.

Yelp
First time here and I know for sure that I'll definitely be back. The pizza was so yummy and fresh. Restaurant was clean and employee behind the counter was very polite.
google avatar

Evan L.

Yelp
The staff was friendly and helpful. We got three slices (Spinach & Artichoke, Margherita Burrata, and Ace & Wes Cowboy) and an Italian Chopped salad. The pizza was very tasty, and you can tell that they use fresh ingredients. The salad was also surprisingly good - the chicken and salami add a nice saltiness and the creamy parmesan dressing had good flavor. We, The Pizza always hits the spot. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a quick bite or even a large meal. You honestly can't go wrong with any of the myriad of pies they have on the menu.
google avatar

Katy C.

Yelp
Extremely thick doughy crust. Oily toppings. Not enjoyable. Immediately felt bloated.
google avatar

dan g.

Yelp
Nice to see a regular pizza place with a standard vegan pizza. It's sicilian style with thick crust and lots of veggies. it was tasty for and I'd definitely eat it again. They don't have a vegan cheese unfortunately.

Jacqueline W.

Yelp
My husband and I traveled to Arlington, VA to see a comedy performance. We didn't want to eat at that location and walked down Crystal Dr looking for a place to eat. My husband wanted pizza. I dont usually order pizza because I've never eaten pizza I enjoyed. My husband ordered the "Bacon Me Crazy" pizza and gave me a bite. It was the best pizza I've ever eaten. The crust had a buttery flavor and was crunchy. (The way I like it). The toppings were great. I will definitely return to this restaurant. I live in Maryland and am very grateful this restaurant is quite a bit of travel time away. Otherwise, I'd visit way too often to remain in my clothing size.
