Why was there no fanfare when this store opened a month ago? This place is so deserving. The employees are among the most friendly I've seen, and they're proud of this clean, bright, modern store. Kristen in produce told me WSM is a co-op. Employees, and shoppers who choose to pay an annual fee, share ownership. She said they have a board of directors, and they pay employees a living wage. You don't have to join the co-op to shop here.
They have a hot food bar ($8.99/lb.), a nice olive bar ($10.99/lb.), a specialty cheese case, a beautiful bread section, and a gorgeous produce department. These are in addition to a small grocery section and a small wine section. Not everything is organic, but you can find lots of healthy foods. Upstairs, you'll find two balconies (one indoors and one outdoors), a demonstration kitchen, and a small bar with "ten on tap," although it was closed today. Some prices were similar to what you'd find in other local groceries, but some prices were a bit higher. We parked in a near-by garage that's free on weekends. Weaver Street Market gives us a good reason to go to downtown Raleigh more often!
