When Weaver's Coffee & Tea still had their SF coffee shop in the Castro District at 16th & Market, I was a regular customer for everything from a cup of drip, to an Americano, to a pound of beans. It was a sad day when they closed. But I can still count on stopping at their San Rafael mothership for a quality cup of coffee en route to Mendocino & points north.
In between road trips, I've been able to also keep my Weaver's habit satisfied through their online coffee beans mail order service I'm an enormous fan of their dark roasting and single origin collections of beans from around the world. In particular, they source coffee beans from my favorite regions of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Those volcanic island soils and high elevations work some magic into the beans. And the expert roasting at Weaver's brings out the terroir of those islands into every cup.
I just received a fresh bag of Sumatran dark roast and before even brewing my pour over, I feasted on the aromas coming from the package. Think dark chocolate, vanilla, damp soil, and leather. The brew was rich with high citrus notes, deep earthiness, and a bitter chocolate backdrop. A fantastic start for a morning. I drink my coffee black, but imagine that some cream and sugar would round some of the acidity out for those who like a smoother entry point for their day.
And as usual, Weaver's always sends a little surprise with my order. This time, a lovely card and a sample of pomegranate green tea and some Peruvian coffee. Thanks, Weaver's! This is why I'm a loyal fan & customer!
