Weber's is a wonderful family owned hotel with a great restaurant. We have stayed there about 4-5 times over the past several years. Since my daughter just started at the University of Michigan, I expect many more stays over the coming years.
The property was undergoing renovations during our previous visit, and this time we got to enjoy the end result. The renovated bathrooms are spectacular. The mirrors have built-in BlueTooth controls and overhead Bose speakers, so you can listen to your own music while using the bathroom. The shower has three different sets of shower heads: handheld shower, rain shower head, and two horizontal heads built into the back wall of the shower. Usually, when multiple heads are available, you can only use one at a time, but this system allows you to use all three heads simultaneously, and the water pressure was still great.
The toilet was a Japanese style with a heated seat and various "cleaning" functions. Unfortunately, there were no instructions, and I thought we might make a mess if we experimented with the cleaning features. We could not figure out how to turn off the heated seat, which was not needed in August, so I finally just unplugged the device. I will definitely take the time to experiment with the newfangled toilets on future stays.
I should note that my wife and I had a King room, while our daughters shared a double-queen. The kids room had just a standard toilet, and it did not have the horizontal shower heads. I do not know if the extra features are only in the King rooms, or if it is random. Either way, both rooms were very nice and comfy.
Weber's has an excellent upscale restaurant that has long been popular among locals, not just hotel guests. The service and food are always exemplary. The prices are a little steep, but quality never comes cheap. I had the house specialty, prime rib, and my wife had seared scallops. Our daughters opted for room service, and everybody loved their meals. If you book a hotel room, they usually have some options to purchase discounted food vouchers, but the offerings vary from time to time. On this stay, we paid $30 for $60 in food vouchers, which basically reduced our net food tab by $30. The vouchers can also be redeemed for room service. Be forewarned, if you book online, the vouchers are charged per night, and they are only good for the night they were charged. This means you cannot buy three nights of vouchers and apply them all to one expensive meal. However, if you call or email, they will sell you the vouchers for only the night(s) you plan to use them.
Weber's is taking COVID very seriously. They take everybody's temperature at check-in, and they enforce social distancing and masks. This was a welcome change, as we had just come from another hotel (Hampton Inn, Iowa City/Coralville) that did not seem to be aware of the worldwide pandemic.
There are a few chain hotels in Ann Arbor, some of which are a little closer to campus. However, I much prefer this family owned hotel, and the room prices are usually similar or cheaper than the national chains. Also, parking is always free at Weber's, while some of the others charge extra. Overall, you will not find a better value in Ann Arbor.
