I'm from Upstate NY, but sadly we did not have this chain in my region of the state. I had been to Rochester a few times and had been to a few Wegmans, even the swanky flagship store!
I was pretty excited that Wegmans was coming here since everyone loves it so much. I heard how busy it was opening weekend, so I waited until a weekday to visit. We arrived around 10:30 AM during the week and it was still fairly busy, but not unbearable.
I had taken my parents with me, they wanted to get a snack, so they ogled the delicious looking desserts and pastries. They opted for a piece of cake and a fruit tart, both were delicious and better quality than what you would get at a grocery store. Some of this stuff was a bit pricey, but they did say it was up to the standards of what you would get in a real bakery.
I opted to get a small sub combo. I'd give it about an 8/10, pretty good, but I prefer Jersey Mike's a bit more. If you are familiar with Dibella's Subs, the bread is a similar style to what that chain uses. Maybe it's a WNY thing?
We enjoyed browsing the whole store. The bakery section is so impressive! There are also many dining options as well, in fact they have plenty of seating if you'd like to dine in the store.
We didn't buy a TON of items, but we enjoyed what we did get. I'm a huge fan of the seltzer and look forward to going back to stock up. So many unique flavor combos such as Lime Mint. I also picked up some flavored Greek Yogurt and that was quite tasty, the price was reasonable.
As far as prices go... There are deals to be had, but it also helps to know your prices as some items are pricey. I'm the type that generally shops at less expensive spots like Food Lion or Super Walmart.
I'm not sure when I'll get back, but I'll definitely return! My husband needs to visit since he's from a part of NY that had this chain. I can't wait until the one in Cary opens.
