Weinhaus Tante Anna

"This traditional family business is now in its seventh generation. Here you dine in the impressive historical setting of a 16C former chapel – the 1 000-year-old granite column by the counter is well worth seeing! The menu features sophisticated regional dishes, which can be accompanied by your choice from a large selection of German wines." - Michelin Inspector

We enjoyed the degustation menu here and it tasted good, but for that price we already had better and more refined. The service was okay but everything felt a bit old school.

What an amazing experience! Upon entering we were greeted immediately with amazing service. Both waiters made sure our waters and wines were always topped. They even showered us with compliments and one of them even helped me down the stairs. Very lovely! The food was also impeccable. We went for the four course meal which also included a little surprise from the kitchen (the first photo) and the bread of course. Unfortunately I didn’t photo the last dish since it was so tasty and we were too distracted. The last dish (deer) paired lovely with the jus the waiter poured onto the plate. Absolutely divine and tantalised the taste buds significantly. Usually I am let down by the deserts at restaurants as it’s usually overlooked, but not at this place! It was so well balanced with each element and I was not bored of the desert either! We both left the restaurant with a bellies full of happiness and good food (and slightly drunk too)! Cannot complain!!

I went there mostly because it's a "wine house" and i'm a wine lover. I really liked the interior, vintage style but cozy. Food was delicious, i had the 4 course meal with wine pairing and the wine was great enough to leave with 2 bottles :). Everybody was very attentive, i even got to say hello to the grand grand daughter of Tante Anna. I would definitely go back there next time i'm in town. Dusseldorf is a nice city, Tante Anna is a "must go" if you enjoy a fancy meal with a very good wine.

Had a lovely Mother's day dinner here in May this year. Food was beautifully prepared, the doneness on the meat was perfectly medium rare, flavours and textures were on point as well. The staff here was so friendly and kind, they're also great at recommending the right wines. Highly recommend!

Just a wonderful meal there last night. Extremely attentive waiter, amuse bouche, lovely wine and an inventive menu based on traditional dishes. Simply excellent food in a great setting. We absolutely will be coming back.

- The interior is nice, but the ventilation is bad, there was too warm and no air to breathe. Small rooms and too loud inside. - the waitress was very friendly and helpful. The manager however was giving the superficial attitude, interrupting conversations and asking racist & bias questions. He could not properly recommend a wine. He brought us some wine to try and even though we did not agreed for this (because it was extremely dry and poor taste red liquid) he left the bottle at the table without giving other choice. - I had a 4 Courses Menue and went home hungry. The soup and egg-starter were good. The risotto with a fish was so salty that I couldn't taste anything else except the salt. Same story was with the smashed potatoes and stake. - the kitchen is not at the highest level and 250€ bill is definitely over-priced for going home hungry.

The food was delicious, and surprisingly the portion sizes were relatively large, at least when combining to other similar restaurants - we intended to eat a four-course menu, but unfortunately had room for only three. Surprisingly, the amuse-bouche was the best thing made out of onion that I've ever tasted. Although the pikeperch I had for the main course was very good, it was not nearly as excuisite as the starters. I was left expecting everything to be on the same level of culinary enjoyment. Three courses and two wines for each of us two ended up costing around 200 euros with the tip included, which was the price I was expecting. We were dining during the same weekend as K-Show, a huge conference for plastic industry, so obviously the restaurant was full, and we did have a reservation booked a week before. Unfortunately this meant that the restaurant was absolutely packed and extremely noisy, which lessened the dining experience quite a lot. The lack of any sound absorbing material on the roof and walls meant that it was very difficult to hear anything. What was more unfortunate was that out waiter had obviously a flu, and was constantly coughing and sneezing, without washing his hands. Overall the evening was lovely, but unfortunately not a full five-star experience.

Yelp
The Tante Anna is located conveniently in the historic center (Altsstadt) of Düsseldorf. It is situated in a historic building and has a long tradition in Düsseldorf. It underwent a extensive renovation last year and only opened recently again for business. The setting is very traditional with a lot of antique decor, making a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. Service here is impeccable. Front of house Tobias Ludowigs and his team make every effort to make the guest feel special and well taken care of. As you can imagine the wine list is extensive covering all parts of the world but concentrating on Germany and France. The list of different Riesling is out of the world, I have never seen such an incredible choice. Even smaller vineyards are listed and you can find some rare vintages which are hard to get. The choice of German pintos (Spätburgunder) is extensive as well, all the big guns are on the offering. If you like French wines, don´t go elsewhere. They offer some of the best Bordeaux in the world and still have some older vintages. Best of all is that their wines in general are good value for money and you will sure find a wine that suits your budget. If you need help with your selection ask the sommelier Tobias Ludowigs. He's like a living wine encyclopedia and can tell you anything about the wines on his list. Food wise they have 3 different menu, a tasting, a German and vegetarian one. All include an appetizer, soup, sherbet, main and desert. You can skip the soup if you want, you can interchange courses from the different menu, they are really flexible here. Simon Nauels and his kitchen team do an excellent job. The food is well presented, portions are not too small, everything is delicate and done to perfection. It is always a great experience coming here. For me the Tante Anna has michelin star potential. It is inexpensive in comparison to other restaurants of this quality.

Yelp
Ok in a city where you can eat good quality food served in generous portions at really not very much money this restaurant is expensive, but it is also good value. The selection and quality of food matched by peerless service from staff who seem to speak several languages would put many Michelen 3*s in France to the test. Consult the sommelier about some of the fine German wines (not your usul Blue Nun!!) I had a great red from the Pfalz and it was truly memorable I love Dusseldorf Altstadt and its' brewery pubs but I will always try to have 1 night here as well
