Yelp
Bistro restaurant in Hotel Uhle
Lovely ambience at the restaurant in the Weinhotel Uhle with the doors open on a beautiful breezy evening. Very nice and comfortable. Be aware there are two- The Bistro is the only choice on weeknights. I had been looking forward to a special dinner and great wine- it was highly anticipated.
Sadly, the overall dining experience was a disappointment. The young waitress was a bit shy, couldn't speak very good German or English, and couldn't explain the menu to us. When asked about the South African wines which we were considering, she said she didn't know anything about them. Shrugged her shoulders. (Nor did she get anyone to help). At 60€ per bottle, in a " Weinhaus", we expected more.
The oysters were great, and at twice the normal market price, they should have been!. But that's where the delight stopped. The baked fish with asparagus in tarragon mustard sauce that my husband had was very very salty, and heavy handed with the tarragon. ( and we both love tarragon!).
The white asparagus dish that I ordered had a " coffee vinaigrette" that didn't complement the dish- again, extremely salty. Not very good. The bread basket with 6 small slices was about 6€. That was good.
When asked how we enjoyed the food I said it was just ok. Clearly I signaled we weren't impressed. She was unmoved and cleared the dishes and asked us if we desired dessert.
Her lack of concern or attentiveness was disappointing for a meal which cost in excess of 150€. ( we bought the bottle of wine in spite of her attitude).
By the way, the wine list was sparse for a "Weinhaus", with just a couple German, Spanish and Italian bottles. The South African wines had the broadest selections. Our choice was wonderful, tho.
I cannot recommend this Bistro due to the disappointing food, and more so because of the poor communication at point of service.
