18 Stunning Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks Around the World

"This lake in southern Austria — just one hour from the Italian border — provides a spacious environment for a brisk skate, with the eastern part of the long, narrow lake offering over two and a half miles of skating track while dramatic mountains rise up from its shores. Every year, the lake attracts speed skaters who compete in international competitions hosted on the lake." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Great lake to visit in winter when the lake is frozen! Free entrance on the lake if you walk, but you need to pay for ice-skating (free for kids)

Absolutely amazing lake. It's the highest situated bathing lake in Carinthia. The lake can reach 24 degrees C in summer, while in winter the water freezes over completely and allows for ice skating. There are plenty of nice restaurants and hotels, while the eastern part is more wild and almost uninhabited. Weissensee offers public bathing spot (paid entrance) with facilites, boat trips and water sports.

Very nice lake, beautiful in the summer water about 25°C, nice places for hiking, lovely in the winter for ice-skating.

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. It was one hour drive from Millstatt, and its definitely worth going there if you are in the area.

Very nice lake, to bad it is difficult to swim free due to the fact that almost everything is in private hands.

A view on Weissensee from the path to Naggler Alm. This lake is one of the cleanest in Austria and the water is potable!? It has silky white sediments hence its name - White lake. Despite its elevation (900 m high) it offers swimming from June to September, especially on eastern and western shores. What's more the lake is a starting point for numerous hiking paths, one of them being a circular path around. I took a Naggler Alm four-sitter and returned back via hiking path in half an hour. It is worth a mention that Weissensee is about 9 km long and only a hundred meters or two wide. It's a bird's view experience when you travel with a four-sitter especially down from Naggler Alm towards Weissensee. It seems as you'll finish in the lake.

The colors of the lake are amazing, a good way to explore and escape crowded places is to take the boat from the bridge, get off at the last stop and walk back until you get tired (you can take the boat back in any stop if you get tired). It's a good way to enjoy the beauty and discover hidden paths, we loved it!!!
