Welcome Hotel | Best places to stay in Cote d'Azur

"Of all the resort towns east of Nice, Villefranche-sur-Mer is the most charming and laid-back, with pretty beaches and Medieval history – as well as this charming hotel, right by the sea. An inn for over two centuries, it’s a key part of Cote d’Azur history: Isadora Duncan stayed here before her fatal Bugatti ride in Nice, and for decades it was a second home for Jean Cocteau, who painted the murals in the nearby chapel of Saint-Pierre des Pecheurs. Modern, unpretentious, spruced up to a four-star standard and run by lovely people, all of its light-filled rooms have sea views – at great-value rates. Sitting out on a warm summer evening, whether on your balcony or in the hotel’s portside wine bar, is a total delight. " - Dana Facaros

Love this place and return often. Always wonderful service and staff. We visit from Dubai at least twice a year (winter and summer) and have wonderful interactions with the staff. Disappointed to see a nasty review below from someone who wanted to occupy a table without ordering anything, but some overseas visitors don’t respect local culture. We love the wonderful selection of organic wines by the glass, and the care taken by the staff to select and explain their amazing wine cellar.

Really liked it here. Great view from the room. Excellent location. Stayed here for three nights in total. Little bit quieter than Nice but easy enough to catch the bus into town. Plenty of places to eat. Can recommend if you want to have a little quieter spot but be close to Nice

Well this is a great place overlooking the little port. This town is very clean and upscale. The hotel is super and one you wish you could stay a week. We had room 46, a suite with a balcony on the fourth floor over the port below. Very clean, good service , first class. Lots of food choices. The trip to/from the train station in vsm is an issue if you have bags. It is a higher level than the hotel. It is about 1km to it. If you go via the street along the port you end up needing to use rather steep stairs. The city is putting in an elevator but I'm not sure it will go from bottom to top. Also note you can only buy tickets on the station side which also has east bound (Monaco) trains. The Nice bound trains are on the opposite side and thus a up and down bag drag over the track complex unless you got your tickets in advance. There is another way to get there by using stairs to the left of the hotel and then getting on the same level basically as the station and getting there that way. Logistically a hassle and if you use a taxi it appears they drop you at the bottom of the steep stairs I commented on earlier.

Truly lovely hotel on the water, with Jean Cocteau art, services top notch, views are amazing and cannot say enough about the staff who is super accommodating and helpful. Location is perfect along the water and Villefranche-Sur-Mer is perfectly tucked outside of Nice, where you’re close enough to do day trips but far enough away to feel remote and special. The hotel must have spent money on soundproofing because it was so quiet inside the rooms. |Highly recommend.

We’ve been coming here since the 1990s and love it. ||It’s a hotel where the total is more than the sum of its parts. ||Staff are lovely, rooms with a balcony are sublime. ||There is nothing better than taking your breakfast watching the fisherman plying his trade, the cruiser tenders doing their thing and the world passing by. ||People have moaned about noise, but we’ve found this dies down at a reasonable time. Service from the bar can be really slow, but hey, kick back and enjoy the vibe. You won’t get this ambience in many places. ||I love this place.||An excellent location to visit all that the area has to offer, which is a lot!

Had a lovely stay at this hotel. The staff were friendly and the room was very clean and presentable with a great balcony and sea view. Location was excellent, close to restaurants and bars. Would definitely stay here again.

Great hotel in a perfect location. Easy to walk to the train station from the hotel, great little beach club about a five minute walk away. The room is small, but the view makes up for it the little balcony was perfect for sitting outside watching the boats. Many great restaurants within walking distance. Nice helpful staff would definitely recommend staying here

Helpful staff. Upgraded room for free with gorgeous view of the bay. Room on sea side was amazing. Nespresso maker in the room. Beautiful terrace with table and chairs. They had valet parking available which was convenient. Highly recommend. Villefranche is lovely!

Yelp
The Welcome Hotel was our favorite hotel which lives up to all the positives listed here by others: kind and attentive staff; super clean; beautiful view; amazing setting; really nice decor and amenities! Best breakfast goodies, way above the norm. We stayed with our two adult daughters with a pull out couch and staff set up the living room bed in the evening for us, giving great attention to every detail; despite a "couch bed" everyone was super comfortable! The balcony with the small table and chairs was such a joy with the amazing views of the harbor, the street musicians, the ships coming and going, just an ideal setting! It is also right in the heart of this charming town; we walked from the hotel everywhere we wanted to go. The best, however, is that we contacted this hotel after we left asking them to look for 4 rings we left in the room and not only did they respond quickly, they found the rings!!! Then they mailed them to our home in the US! Wow, what a wonderful stay and a great luck that this is where we would leave our sentimental treasures! Thank you Welcome Hotel!

Yelp
Stayed here for 5 nights during the 2016 Monaco Grand Prix. Everything was wonderful. The location is perfect for winding down after a full day at the track. Hotel staff are awesome and attentive, they helped us with pressing of shirts, boat transfers to Monaco and early-morning airport transfer. The hotel is a very short walk from the train station - Monaco in 12 minutes for €3 each way. The bar has 1664 on draft and is a great place to people watch during happy hour. Full cooked buffet breakfast was terrific, smoked salmon a nice addition. The views from the waterfront rooms are nothing short of spectacular. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks Hotel Welcome for a wonderful stay.

Yelp
Conveniently located in the charming seaside of Villefranche Sur Mer, this is where all the locals for a serene sidewalk drink. Go for the sunset and stroll along the port to plenty of shopping, eating, and sightseeing opportunities. Be sure to ask when the next antique market will be, it's totally worth it!

Yelp
Kinda feel bad that it has taken me a bit to get this review up. In fact, if it were not for the fact that I am giving them 5 stars, I wouldn't be posting it now. Stayed at Welcome as part of a trip through Europe after picking up a new BMW. Fantastic location. Staff was very attentive, and helped out with a few questions that we had while there, even with our broken French. Room was exactly as advertised on their website. Made the last leg of our trip truly memorable. Just a little anecdotal story that's sums up the staff. I had asked months earlier over email to have secure parking for the new car. I figured that I'd have a 50/50 chance getting that, and would probably need to remind them. Well, lets just say not only did they remember, but they actually had a small garage for just my car across the street. Awesome! And on the day we left, the manager of the hotel had to get some of the antique vendors to move their wares for us to get our car, and then managed traffic for us too with all of the people in the area from the two cruise ships which arrived earlier in the morning. Epic! Great place, would highly recommend if staying in the Cote.

Yelp
Amazing hotel with super nice staff. The views from the rooms with balconies are worth every penny.

Yelp
Just returned from a trip to the Cote d'Azur and Italy with the Hotel Welcome our first stop. This was my third stay at the Hotel Welcome and, as always, it did not disappoint. This may be my favorite hotel in Europe, not because the rooms and baths are great - they are exactly as presented on the web, but the setting and the staff is one of the best I have ever experienced. I discovered this hotel in 1998 via the web when traveling with a friend through the South of France. The setting overlooks the Mediterranean with a plaza of fun to the side. Although they have no restaurant on site, the wine bar is most accommodating. Restaurants abound close by so that is not a problem. The balconies provide the illusion that one is a part of the party. The staff will accommodate all possible requests with a smile. As we left they asked that I not stay away as long as I had this last time. I hope to accommodate their request.
