A+ service, atmosphere, and food.
We arrived around 11 am on a Thursday afternoon. There isn't much in the way of seating--about 5 tables along a bench side (2ish people each) A bar along the window for 4, seating for 6 alogn the actual bar, and maybe 3 outdoor seats. It was surprisingly full at 11, though we got seated immediately at the bar. It filled up about 15 minutes after we sat.
The menus are in french and english, so us tourists were okay ordering. We got the lemonade, a cortada, the bluberry pancakes and pancakes rico.
The sparkling lemonade was a fun experience. Don't get it if you want normal lemonade. it was flavoured with some herbs and syrup. The cortada was well made. Usually I like sugary coffee, but I didn't complain about this one. The espresso was clean and mixed with just enough milk to cut the bitterness.
The pancakes rico were probably the best pancakes I've ever had. Normally I don't like pancakes, but the ricotta had me piqued so I had to try it. And damn I'm glad I did. The negotiation of the THICK, syrupy pancakes with salty savory CHUNKS of bacon, balanced in the middle with a generous portion of creamy ricotta was perfect. The act of piercing the yolk of the perfect sunny-side-up egg and mixing it up with a potato, ricotta pancake, and bacon, and syrup was an experience I hope to travel across Canada to experience again. If you're a fan of a sweet savory match up then this is the order for you. Also I've never had bacon chunks so good. They were like chunks of pork belly, but more meaty and crisped perfectly.
The blueberry pancakes weren't as thick as the ones on my order, but they were just as pleasant to bite through. They give a generous amount of fruit, fresh and sauced heavily. The ricotta along with almonds served to fill my partner (who is 2 orders of magnitude bigger then me) just as well as my protein rich dish. The disparate parts--several fruits, proteins, carbs--both excited the senses but also blended for a uniquely sumptuous bite.
Non-gendered bathrooms, and probably the best version of non gendered bathrooms I've ever seen. Other restaurants and business should take note. Fully enclosed stalls with baby change stations INSIDE each stall. Changing a baby would be a bit cramped but I loved the concept.
