Majority of the library staff are terribly rude and the manager is allowing this. They look at you and speak to you with an air of superiority, as if you were stupid and they were the keepers of truth and justice.
If you don’t express yourself perfectly in English, they ask what you meant with a bewildered, judgmental expression.
When you ask for information, they try to brush you off. The young man with glasses in particular looked at his watch with an annoyed expression, almost as if he wanted to make it clear that he was late for something and that I was wasting his time. Their body language and facial expressions make it obvious how much they seem to resent the world around them and having to interact with other people in that environment.
It honestly makes me wonder why you choose to work in a public-facing role. If dealing with people is such a burden, then perhaps you should leave those jobs to people who are courteous, professional, and genuinely know how to treat others with respect, understanding and kindness.
As if that wasn’t enough, around 6pm I made my way towards the lockers together with two other girls. They quickly grabbed their bags and rushed out because, obviously, it was already six. I stopped for a moment to tie my hair up and, in the meantime, I was also putting my things into my bag. So I was only a few seconds behind….. This tall man, quite old, with greying hair, shouted at me from a distance that I could do my hairstyle outside instead. He was extremely rude and inappropriate. Obviously, I replied simply by asking him why he was being rude towards me and, more specifically, why everyone seemed to have this rude attitude in the library.
Shortly afterwards, this man walked straight past me while staring at me with so much anger and hostility (he literally gave me an hateful look)… that I was shaken and asked another member of staff for an explanation, who I later found out was the manager.
She explained that he was one of the facilitators and that I could file a complaint. Lol. As if they would actually care about my complaint. Stupid butocratic useless procedures… Her reaction, the way she spoke to me, and the solution she suggested made me realise that it was only a formal approach, and that, in reality, she did not genuinely believe that I was in the right. Instead, she was justifying the employee’s aggressive behaviour because I was perhaps only 30 seconds late leaving the library.
That really shows you what their priorities are… making sure that everyone is out exactly at six comes first, and therefore, if you are not out at six on the dot, somehow whatever happens to you afterwards is your own problem. That seems to be their way of thinking and reasoning.
Their stupid little rules come before showing BASIC respect towards people. Protecting their own egos, their attitudes, and their personal issues seems to come before treating customers with respect, which should be something granted when working in customer roles.
It is honestly a really unpleasant and disappointing place. Unfortunately, I have to go there to study, so from now on I will simply ignore them and stop giving these people my energy, because I genuinely do not want to become like them or share their contaminated energy!
Maybe instead of asking people to file complaints, you should pay your staff better. They might be more motivated to treat people with basic respect.
