A New Neighborhood Diner Lands in Berkeley - Eater Denver

"On Tuesday, the daytime diner Wendell’s opened on Tennyson Street, and it’s a sweet little breakfast and lunch space backed by a big cast of Denver food folks. Patrick O’Neill of Avanti F&B, Kade Gianinetti of The Way Back, and consulting chef Eric Lee, formerly head chef at Linger, have combined forces for this new Berkeley restaurant. The name Wendell’s is a reference to writer Wendell Berry and also a throwback to those “classic spots where I used to hang out with my grandad as a kid,” O’Neill said." - Josie Sexton

Another Breakfast and Lunch Restaurant Is Coming to the Former DJ’s Berkeley Cafe - Eater Denver

"Wendell’s will open by mid-May serving daily breakfast and lunch menus. Chef Eric Lee is leading the new Wendell’s kitchen with a mix of classic diner fare (see chicken-fried steak) and modern options (like pickled beet and herbed ricotta avocado toast). Lunch plates will include salads and deli sandwiches." - Josie Sexton

Just discovered this place and we've been 4 times in 3 weeks. It's incredible and their gluten free options are incredibly delicious. Would you believe EVERYTHING in this photo is GF?? Reasonable prices, adorable atmosphere, and staff is super friendly as a cherry on top. LOCAL GEM

We have recently started eating at Wendel's again after having not made it in in a couple of years, and we are delighted to be back, and we will keep coming back. Food and service were great. We have recently had the french toast, breakfast burrito, breakfast poutine, and a benedict, all of which were great. And I give bonus points to Wendel's for not including any additional service fee on their bill. We will be back and we recommend eating at Wendel's.

Google
Wendell’s is for when you’re craving diner breakfast food but would rather not eat at Dennys/ Waffle House. So Wendell’s it is! Great low-key community spot worth saving- Berkeley is slowly getting out bid by corporate real estate developers, and would love to see local options like these stay open. Restaurants like these give us insight into the soul of the neighbourhood.

Being from a small town, I cannot express how much of a staple a good chicken fried steak is. I have lived in Denver for the past eight years and I’ve consistently been disappointed every time I’ve ordered chicken fried steak or biscuits and gravy and often times when ordering smoked brisket. Today was not the case my daughter and I went out for second breakfast And this by far is the most phenomenal chicken fried steak and smoked brisket I’ve ever had the environment is nice. The staff is incredibly friendly. We met the owner and talked for a while and you can tell that he is passionate about his craft. I would 100% recommend this if you know what a real breakfast is supposed to taste like

Google
Wow! Elevated Diner food, without the elevated price. Everything was good. I got the junior; the eggs and hash browns were fantastic, and we shared some peaches and cream-fried French toast! Highly recommended for the table. Thank you conor. For excellent service!

I was looking to have a group for my birthday brunch in Oct. Eight days later, two emails and one phone call I have not received a response from anyone. Very disappointed that I am being ghosted. Definitely not a way to treat a new customers or to do business.

Google
I stopped in here randomly on Black Friday during a snowstorm. The cafe is adorable, the music is perfect, and the atmosphere was top notch. The owner Casey made the best breakfast beverages, suggested the DELICIOUS Cajun Collared Greens Benedict and was incredibly welcoming in conversation. If you’re looking for a family owned restaurant with an awesome vibe and great food, GO HERE.

Google
Wendell's is the best breakfast I have ever had the pleasure of eating. I live in California and stumbled upon this restaurant a couple years ago. The food was so magnificent that I planned a trip back to Colorado and ate breakfast at Wendell's both days I was here. I cannot compliment this place enough! Casey, the owner and waitress is a champion at balancing all of the tables and keeping the service fast and personal. I would eat here every day if I could.

Yelp
I ordered the avocado toast for breakfast with a poached egg. The description on the menu had fresh tomatoes and onions. Sadly, the avocado toast looked and tasted like guacamole on wonder bread. And the poached egg came in a little bowl like a mushed ball. The avocado tasted old, and the veggies were diced up and mushy. It would've been so much better served on fresh grain bread, fresh sliced avocados, fresh slice tomatoes, fresh sliced onions, and a beautiful poached egg on top. Instead, it arrived looking like a disaster and tasted disgusting.

Yelp
I've eaten here once, but it was good enough for me. The wait time was great, and there was no one else in the joint but myself. I took an empty cat carrier with me and they didn't even ask to visit so I'm guessing that cats are aloud? Small inside but at least it's clean.

Yelp
I was a little nervous walking into Wendell's since I don't do much breakfast places and was immediately hit with loud music. They have one long bench table in the middle, the bar station on the left and tables in the back and right. There was a patio as well. We got there 30 minutes after our reservation 1, supposed to be at 12:30pm due to road closures at pride. They didn't seem visually annoyed but they went from 2 tables that were finishing to a giant table of 9 that wanted to add one. They close at 2 so understandable they were out of biscuits and specials by 1. The server was quick and memorized all 10 orders without a mistake. They had pitchers of water and small cups. The sever didn't rush but did explain the kitchen closing time. One person ordered incorrectly and they fixed the small issue quickly. Coffees were asked if another was needed. My soda refill was forgotten but they were cleaning and I got one later. We didn't leave until probably 2:10. We weren't lingering. They even split the bill all ways. The menu was online with no prices listed anywhere , which made me nervous but the Cajun Collard Greens was about $15 as a reference. It was very good! And good portion.

Yelp
"Denver's Best Pancakes"? I'll be the judge. Verdict is: YESSSS! My husband is a pancake connoisseur and with Wendell's boasting the title of "Best pancakes in Denver", I knew just the place to meet my mother-in-law for a breakfast date! We arrived just after 9:30 to a bustling Tennyson St filled with folks who clearly had the same idea we did! After circling the block, we snagged a spot out front to park just a few short steps away from the entrance! Parking in this area is a bit tough, but once you see a spot, snag it! Beware - the nearby businesses have parking for their customers only - which many people fail to see - so just FYI! My mother-in-law was already seated a cozy booth in the rear near the window and to my surprise, the space wasn't packed! The space itself is super unique with exposed brick, bright white walls, cozy booths and a large oak booth across from the massive community table! It exudes all the best touches creating the perfect vibe for brunch! Brunch isn't brunch without 3 different beverages, so I started my morning off with hot coffee, water and a spring cocktail - the Elderflower Spritz! Beautiful and floral and light - the perfect sip! Our server, who name escapes me now, was beyond friendly, welcoming and sat right down with us to discuss the menu, specials and everything in between! She knew her stuff, cracked jokes with us, had our coffee never see the bottom of the cup and made our entire experience enjoyable! Now onto the food! Hubs opted for the Wendell Junior - featuring Two Eggs Any Style, Seasoned Hashbrowns, Ham and subbed toast for the famous pancakes! All I can say is WOW! The pancakes were dense with flavor but fluffy and light, was sweet but wasn't TOO sweet and absolutely delicious! We are OG pancake people in that we like just butter and syrup on top and this did not disappoint! I chose to nosh on a spring special - the Brisket Poutine which had Smoked Brisket, Seasoned Hashbrowns, Carolina Bacon Gravy, Fried Cheese Curds, Two Sunny Side Up Eggs - and YUM. I'm not a huge brisket girlie but it was crisp, light and all the flavors melded together juuuuuust right for one delicious bite! We also chose to sample the Chicken and Waffles which were oh so good. The chicken was spicy and crispy, yet sweet when mixed with the waffles - with plenty to take home! Look out Wendell - we will back!!

Yelp
We walked in and added our name to the list, place seemed cool on the inside and the food looked good too. Over 45 minutes later, they wanted to seat us next to each other at the bar...the same two seats that had been open for the entire 45min wait... Why would a person wait in a line for 45min for breakfast and then want to sit at a bar top that has been open the entire time? Also, this place needs more staff... there were only 2 people working in the front for the whole restaurant and they were running around frantically the entire time. It seems from other reviews that this is a common occurrence, so I say save yourself the hassle and walk a block to Javier's Diner instead.

Yelp
Definitely a 5-star breakfast joint! Their sign touts: "Denver's Best Pancakes!" and they're spot on! Decor: spot on for what you'd expect an excellent diner to have. Upscale modern, but in a cozy way! You have to go to see what I mean. It's perfect for this place! I was here early on a Friday morning, and it wasn't busy at all. I ordered the oj, a dark mocha, and the Wendell's Junior with sub-pancake instead of toast. With poached eggs. The poached eggs?? Perfect! Little clouds of heaven right there. The hash just needed a touch more salt (this is a great problem to have with potato hash browns!) but let me get to the pancake... decadent, light, fluffy.... Mmmm so good! The server was super sweet and nice. Attentive at the right times. Prices are exactly right, and the portions are great. I wasn't here to breakfast drink, but they have an awesome selection of cocktails and bfast shots for those that are in the mood! Favorite breakfast place in Denver, hands down! (Sorry no pics, food was gone before I thought to take any!)

Yelp
Cute little brunch spot! I went to Wendell's last weekend with some friends for brunch and we ended up sitting at the bar. I ordered the espresso martini and it was really good. We ordered a couple of dishes to share (French toast and the scramble) and both plates were awesome! I was eyeing the cinnamon roll and now after reading some of the reviews on them I'll have to go back to try them. Definitely recommend checking this place out.

Yelp
I was visiting my cousin in Denver and she said we HAD to go to Wendell's for breakfast. We ended up here for more of a brunch and there was a bit of a wait (they're extremely short-staffed, so be patient with them!), but no worries, we just waited at the bar. I ordered a mocha latte while we were waiting, which was delicious, and we kept seeing these cinnamon rolls being taken to tables. They have a regular one and one that was tiramisu, but we went with the latter once we were seated. They served it warmed and oh my goodness, when I tell you that it melted in my mouth... So good. For my main meal I had to go with the chicken and waffle sliders, which is basically chicken and waffles in a smaller form. Although on the appetizer list it was a big portion so it was filling and enough for a meal. The waffles were fluffy and the chicken was juicy, with light (not hot) hot sauce and a good amount of syrup. Overall very good. Wished they were open on Monday's because I wanted to stop by for another latte, but will have to settle for another visit another time.

Yelp
Friday AM no wait, great ambiance and music. My partner had chuckwagon hash and loved every bite, I had chicken and waffles with side of 2 poached eggs... waffles were light and just tangy enough and complimented the perfectly fried and moist chicken. I dared with the spicy syrup and the whole dish was so savory with a hint of sweet peeking in... so good no pics that's the best isn't it! Service by Mandy only added to the great experience.
google avatar

Florence N.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised how good this was. The hashbrowns were crispy, scramble was huge and pancakes are definitely tasty. I didnt actually try the syrup, my son did. I'm not sure if the syrup was legit maple or not. I personally think that all legit restaurants must have maple. The only suggestion I would have is for the restaurant to offer a turkey sausage or a vegetarian meat substitute for more options.

Yelp
This place was just OK...The patio is overall nice, Service was decent. I just think there are much better brunch places in Denver. I got the eggs benedict with hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were kind of crunchy, dry and I didn't like the seasoning, poached eggs were kind of cold and I just don't like it when a place season paprika on top of everything. The mimosas were just okay also. Nothing special, nothing great. I likely won't be back though.

Joe S.

Yelp
Exactly what I needed, foods excellent, vibes is great Had the chuck wagon hash and avocado toast (must have!) Waitress was great and quick ask for Mandy!!! Sorry no pics ate to fast !!!

Yelp
One of my favorite breakfast spot. Great service and great food. On Tennyson street so you can take a stroll before or after your meal. Nice interior too. Everything on the menu is good.

Yelp
Definitely a great breakfast spot! Don't let the dumb yelp star rating deter you from checking this place out. We went Thursday morning and got right in. I had the southern Benedict which was awesome. The sriracha hollandaise with a little heat really made it. My husband had the gluten free country fried steak and there was nothing left on his plate. He also had a gluten free pancake which he said was very good. The service was also great and we found out later he was one of the owners. Super down to earth and the place has an awesome vibe. We'll definitely be back! We have to get our names on the regulars board!

Yelp
great vibe, great staff, great food. and Rainier!. Had the brisket Philly and it was excellent. Better brisket than alot of BBQ places I've been too. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We had the most incredible and intimate New Year's Day brunch here. They don't print the prices-- but trust that they are VERY reasonable. Lovely decor, even better food. The Jalapeño Bloody Mary is a winner. HIGHLY recommend!!

Yelp
I love Wendell's. Their lattes are amazing, staff are so nice and the food is great. We are regulars!

Yelp
Small business cranking out dope food and service! Best patio on Tennyson. Would recommend for a quiet morning.

Yelp
Great for kids! Great for dogs! Cool owners going above and beyond for their guests. Good food. Gluten free options. Patio seating ideal for a casual hang with the family.

Yelp
Great spot for breakfast. Prices were a little high, but the food was great. I'm in love with their waffles. They were super airy and fluffy and just perfect. Not to sweet and not dry. You barley even needed syrup for it. I would say that it's a spot that I would go to every weekend because like I said it was more I. The pricy side. But still a great place for breakfast or brunch.

Yelp
My husband found this restaurant online, which advertised to have the "best pancakes in Denver." It seemed like a place we would both enjoy so I was happy to try it out. It has a cute dinner feel inside and our server was friendly and attentive. There is a menu on the wall with no prices and a QR code at the table to scan for the online menu, but again with no prices. We order a coffee and chai latte to start, the scramble with toast and Wendell's jr. which has 2 eggs, hash browns, a choice of a protein or avocado and you can substitute a pancake for the toast. My husband decided to add a regular pancake to his order after his food came out, so when it got to the table he was able to eat it hot. I ate my plate with eggs first, so when I got to my pancake it was not hot. I ordered to apple cinnamon caramel pancake, but couldn't really taste the caramel because it was drizzled on so lightly and still needed a little syrup. Once the pancake is room temperature it just tastes like a thick pancake. It was an okay meal, until the check came and we saw the prices for everything. My meal with 2 eggs, hash browns, avocado and 1 pancake was $19! My husband's scramble plate was $13, which was fine, but then the add on pancake was another $9! I realize we could have asked how much everything was before ordering, but why should it be a secret?? We have no reason to return.

Yelp
We learned about this newer spot recently so we wanted to give it a go; always down for a new breakfast/brunch spot in Tennyson Their menu boasts "the best pancakes" and I'm obsessed with pancakes right now so I ordered one buttermilk with berries & cream and a side of bacon. Review: the pancake was great. It had what I want out of a buttermilk pancake: fluffy, not too sweet, kinda salty/savory taste. Loved it. The berries &cream drizzle was good but IMO was too light. the side of bacon was like something I'd make at home (but not even as good) So I would def. skip in the future. (Picture of pancakes and bacon included). My husband got the poutine and it looked reallllyyyyy good (he said it was). Coffee drinks were good (I got a dirty chai) and service was super friendly (but quite slow and seemed understaffed, definitely feel for the servers here). All and all, I'd say give it a go if you're around; we might swing by again for the dishes we liked too.

Yelp
I went here for the first time today with a friend for brunch. When we walked in at 9 o'clock, it was not crowded. There were several open seats but because they are short staffed, they suggested we sit at the bar. The bar seats were very comfortable. The music was loud. This place is kind of small, but it just has a vibe that isn't exactly cozy... like I can't imagine staying here for hours. I ordered the chicken and waffle sliders. Like another reviewer said, it is enough for a meal and it is not too spicy. The chicken was nice and juicy and well cooked and the waffles were just OK. I think they needed butter and syrup but they weren't bad by any means. I was definitely full after eating this and it cost me $13. My friend ordered the Cajun Benedict and her collard greens looked really good. She also got an oat milk chai latte and I think her total for breakfast was $22. Like other reviews have said, they are extremely short staffed. When I was there this morning, one person was working the bar area and I counted two waitresses taking care of everyone else in the dining room.
google avatar

Marielle W.

Yelp
Service was amazing! The waitress was darling! Food was delicious! I recommend any of the eggs Benedict's, I didn't order it but my mom did and it was way better than the junior or senior breakfasts. Pro-tip: order the hash-browns in the breakfasts extra crispy!!

B M.

Yelp
Great food great atmosphere, and gooood drinks! Not sure if the drinks and or pancakes were seasonal, but they were amazing! Gingerbread pancakes!? Not your usual fare, and delicious. Roy our server was great! (I suspect he may be a part owner) ;) If you have read any of my old reviews, you would know my wife and son are pancake snobs, and all the pancakes passed the test. One had the gingerbread and one the pancake flight. Wonderful service as well. We are glad we made this a part of our Denver trip. If you're in town, stop by!
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
We were looking for a new diner to visit and were so pleased with this place! We can vouch for the cinnamon rolls, lattes, waffles, pancakes, hash browns... DELICIOUS
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
Man, this place is cute, just didn't kill it. While the staff made modifications and dietary concerns seem very easy and normal to accommodate, they got almost all of them wrong. My dining partner is both gluten free and dairy free and upon multiple requests to have the food cooked in oil instead of clarified butter, her whole meal came piled with it. While I asked for a benny but on a bed of hashbrowns that they were able to accomplish, they left out two ingredients the benny did come with that weren't requested as modifications. The food is good but not any better than most brunch places here in Denver. Loved loved the vibe, the patio and the decor but just wasn't crazy about the homemade bloody mix or all the mistakes.
google avatar

Nicolette H.

Yelp
Hey y'all. This place is really, really good. Pancakes are truly delicious. Biscuits and gravy are so peppery and fluffy. Can't wait to work my way through this menu. The hollandaise was creamy and rich without just tasting thick and fatty. Hug in a mug was delicious. Staff is so kind and funny. They have like 6 available tables (because covid) so come at an off hour or expect a decent wait.
google avatar

Yelp
My family and I stopped in for brunch a few weekends ago because I had convinced them that this place had incredible food. In the past, this place wildly amazed me with its food. (I've been in maybe 2 other times) However, this time the food was subpar. The hash browns were really undercooked. The food was lukewarm at best. But the thing that really pissed us off was that my husband got the biscuits and gravy and when it came it had basically a drizzling of gravy. Enough, possibly, for a toddler to eat. He asked for an extra side of gravy since his biscuits weren't even covered and they brought him what looked like a 2oz bowl of gravy..not much. Fine, all good. But then we get the check and they added on an extra $3 for the gravy. We asked the manager to take off the cost of the extra gravy since we assumed that when the menu states "Biscuits and Gravy. Nuff said!" that we would get smothered B&G..duh. She informed us that the B&G come with 3oz of gravy but that "this time" she'll make an exception and take off the $3 charge for our already $16 dish. Needless to say, i suggest they change the name to biscuits and gravy drizzle or actually make biscuits and gravy the proper way. This is just a skimpy way to operate. Hopefully that changes cuz I did really like this place overall.

Yelp
Visited Wendell's on a Saturday around 8:30am. Parking was easy to find on the side street and there was many tables to choose from. When we left all the booth tables were occupied but still many chairs to choose from around 9:20am. I started with the steak and eggs Benedict. It was below expectations since I'm eating steak for breakfast! The hollandaise sauce felt more suitable for a crab Benedict, had a fishy smell. The kale also took away from the steak flavor, and really didn't care much for the English muffin used but at least it was thin that it didn't become overwhelming. The real start in this place is the pancake and they did not disappoint. I went with a single stack and pecan maple, lemon zest topping. It was delicious and the lemon was perfect, not too much to take away any flavor from the pancake. The pancake texture was great, crispy on the edges and fluffy on the inside. Would highly recommend this place only for the pancakes. Here are my ratings: Steak and eggs Benedict: 7/10 Pancake with pecan topping: 8.5/10

Yelp
A great breakfast and brunch spot. The staff are very nice and informative. The food is delicious! Plenty of gluten free options and many tasty dishes, like the breakfast poutine ! This place makes Snooze a snore.

Erica B.

Yelp
I really love this neighborhood spot but it definitely fell short this time around. It seemed obvious that they were understaffed. Food was sub par from my past visits. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and at first glance when my food was delivered, I thought they accident brought me an eggs Benedict. Turns out it was biscuit and gravy. The biscuit was more like a very soft English muffin, thin, no density, and no texture. The gravy has very little sausage. The cinnamon roll was great! I love their outdoor patio, and love that it's dog friendly! Maybe it was just a bad day, and understaffed- overall disappointed, it's not the same Wendell's I remember.
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
Casey and Meg were awesome. Very friendly and accommodating of a member of our party's special dietary needs. Such great food and drink- can't wait for the weather to get warmer so we can hit the patio!

Yelp
I am so heartbroken.. new ownership, and this place has gone downhill. I used to live for brunches here and I will never come back This avocado toast is the saddest thing I've ever seen..
google avatar

Shelby K.

Yelp
Came here for brunch on a Sunday. We've lived in the area for 4 years and today was somehow our first trip. The decor is cute, little nicer than your average diner. The food was delicious and game out quick. Will most definitely be back! PS get the caramelized grapefruit!!!!

Jeremy S.

Yelp
This place is awful. We went here when it first opened, and my burrito tasted like the smell of a wet dog. Year's later, we came back to give it another chance. The steak on my benedict was tougher than a used tire, and the hash browns reminded me of a hard pack of ramen noodle. I'm sorry for the harsh review, but Jesus, this place is rough. Also, it was $80 for the two of us. We are here weeks ago, and I'm now writing the review, because of how re-mad I got thinking about it.
google avatar

Jacqueline G.

Yelp
Their starters are amazing and unique, the avocado toast is unlike anything I've ever tasted and their brûlée grapefruit is genius. Service is wonderful and friendly, coffee is great too. I think about that avocado toast everyday

Yelp
What a fun little breakfast spot! Wendell's prides themselves on being a "modern diner", and I really am feeling that vibe. When you walk in, there are booths and counter seating, and it feels spacious. It was nice out when we visited, so we opted for the outdoor patio, that had a trellis with lots of shade! The egg-man design is super duper cute, and the food lives up to expectations. We had heard Wendell's was known for their pancakes, so we had to give them a shot... I ordered the POW (Pancake of the week), and my husband ordered a standard pancake with Berries and cream. We weren't super hungry to begin with, but i'm really glad we only ordered a single-stack each - the pancakes are huge! You will not leave this place hungry... The pancakes are also cooked to perfection - buttery & soft, yet crispy. And there is a lovely dash of cinnamon that you can definitely taste. Stop by this place for a casual Sunday meal... or any day of the week, because they'll be open :) Welcome to Berkeley, Wendell's!

Lynzie B.

Yelp
I want to start off by saying, Wendell's used to be one of my favorite breakfast spots in Denver and I still think the food is good, most times. However, I feel the need to write this review, my first one ever - IN HOPES THE OWNER SEES IT- because sadly, I will never ever return. They are incredibly understaffed, and it makes for a terrible dining experience. Our last 3 visits have not been great, but today was the actual worst. Bummer because I brought my parents and sister there for the first time since I've always loved the food. We got there at 10:30, and were not greeted for at least 10 minutes by either of the two servers, who are always running the place on their own. Eventually we got on the waitlist. (There were about 5 tables open btw, but I figured they just needed time to catch up) She said 20-25 min for our table of 5. No biggie, happy to wait! We ended up waiting over an hour, while we watched them seat multiple tables before us that walked in after we did, including an 11 top. I decided to check in on the wait time and she said we'd be seated next, which took another 10-15 min. Then, after we finally got sat, we waited 10 min just for WATER, another 10 for coffee. I bet you can imagine how thirsty we are at this point after waiting for a table for almost an hour and a half. We ordered our food, that took another 40 minutes, and sadly every one of our plates were wrong or missing something. Biggest issue was my scramble had sausage, and I'm a vegetarian, so I had to ask to have it remade. I rarely ever send things back, but obviously could not eat it and risk getting sick. Mistakes happen not a big deal, but damn I'm frustrated, I'm literally starving at the point. They apologize and remake it, but that takes another 20 min. My family has finished their food by the time I got mine. We sat with empty coffees and empty waters, and could not get one of the servers to acknowledge us. Never got the avocado or side of gravy they forgot, still got charged for both. Never got ketchup for hash browns. You could not get anyone's attention to ask again. Another 20 minutes, finally got the check, and I was disappointed they didn't take my meal off, or even the avocado or gravy. Seriously?? I'd say that would have been the very least they could have done to make up for everything. Wow, I'm so annoyed at this point. Just horrible, horrible service. The servers are nice, I honestly feel so bad for them. It's impossible what they have to do on their own- take every table in the restaurant, make all the drinks and handle the bar, run all the food, bus all of the tables. God it's awful to watch, and it RUINS the whole experience because you can't get their attention for anything. Truthfully I shouldn't have left a great tip after all of that but being a server for years, I know it's not their fault. I still tipped 20%. TO THE OWNER - please hire more people to support your staff. The customer service is SO bad and honestly, your food is slowly going down hill too. It's obvious that the main issue is lack of staff. I have to give up on Wendell's after today. It's just not a pleasant experience and leaves me feeling anxious and frustrated every time.

Yelp
I hate leaving bad reviews I really do but the experience I just had at wendell's was really the worst I've had in denver. Food was tasteless and cold , cocktails were undrinkable ( saying alot coming from an irish bostonian) an the service was pretty bad ( no water served until the end of the meal ). I try to be cognizant of how covid affects everyone before leaving poor reviews but this experience was unreal.

Yelp
Ended up here with a friend after seemingly everywhere else was a 2+ hour wait (to be expected on a Sunday at 11 am). They got us sat within 20 minutes and everything was great! I got the breakfast sandwich with avocado and a side of hash browns. The food was all tasty as well as the mimosas, however the drinks did not taste strong at all and it was $7 for a very small portion of mimosa. Overall though, I'd come back for the food! The prices were a decent value for the portion and quality.

Yelp
My friend and I had brunch here recently and really enjoyed it. We were seated immediately and our server was very friendly. We ordered the pancakes and she was nice enough to let us get two different toppings for the double stack pancakes. We also had the savory oats of the day and the brûléed grapefruit, which were also really delicious. I do wish the pancakes had more clotted cream and fruit as it was such a small portion. Also, the aperol spritz really needed more Aperol and Prosecco rather than club soda. It tasted strange. Other than that I'd definitely come back again.

Yelp
A new spot we checked and wow it was good. We're a big fan of good breakfast spots and this is one of them. In a decent location with lots of charm, the interior is really nice and modern. The service was great, friendly and on point-making sure we were taken care of, to the point that they had obviously seen us trying to melt the butter on our pancakes and they brought over some room temperature butter. The food was really good, starting off with a light and fluffy pancake to awesome eggs Benedict, a classic bacon and eggs and different take on the good ol breakfast. I'd be back for sure, good job Wendell's.

Yelp
The reviews for this place seem to be all over the board so I wasn't sure what to expect. The verdict? This place is good and worthy of a visit. For starters, the space is great and immaculate. Being the second one in on a Saturday I had no trouble finding a spot and quickly settled in with a steaming cup of coffee. Before I go further: the coffee is excellent. I hate when a place serves a great breakfast but only mediocre (at best) coffee and thankfully that's not the case here. The coffee (from Method roasters) was smooth and perfectly brewed. Thank you thank you thank you. On to breakfast: to start I couldn't pass up the brûléed grapefruit. What a smart and inventive dish. Speaking of smart, they provide a spoon with ridges to cut through the grapefruit. While you have to be careful when eating, this spoon was genius to actually eat a grapefruit without having to struggle sawing through with a regular spoon. The grapefruit was delicious and a great way to start off the day and my meal. My entree selection was the biscuits and gravy. Although I still prefer regular biscuits for this dish, the croissant biscuits were still pretty good. When you got a scoop of everything: the biscuit, gravy, egg, and herb salad, the dish was perfectly balanced and highly enjoyable.

Yelp
Delicious, sophisticated yet simple, warm and welcoming. This is Wendell's. Isaac one of the owners greeted us and shared with us his vision. He wanted to build on the energy from DJ's (former restaurant in this space) with a quality, artisan menu featuring unique twists on classic breakfast and lunch options. They did it! My cappuccino was by all accounts perfect: smooth, rich coffee, not bitter, blended and topped with a protuberant foam that was well-balanced between thick and airy. I also ordered The No. 1 (pictured) and a half-order of the Black & White French Toast. Starting with The No. 1 I got exactly what I imagined. A dense piece of seeded bread laid open with a rich layer of herbed ricotta spread, and topped with generous slices of pickled beets and avocado. I enjoyed biting into it, the gravity of the bread and hearty chunks of beet and avocado reminded me I'm eating real food. I also appreciated the acid mixing with the fat of the ricotta for an added depth of complexity, and it wasn't pungent or overpowering; a very clean finish segueing into my dessert portion of my meal. I'd have taken a picture of the French Toast but the photo wouldn't do it justice. The rich layer of cocoa contrasted with the warm ball of butter and gave the impression of burnt toast... which it wasn't! It was sweet, umami with no bitterness which was a pleasant surprise as I expected something different from the ginger. The bread was also perfectly battered throughout making it dense and moist at the same time. Lastly I want to comment on the restaurant design: it feels so much larger than before with natural light flowing in and around you, and plenty of space between you and your neighbors. I can work in here, I can schmooze in here, and I can get in a morning run and stop in for breakfast in my workout clothes without feeling out-of-place. All in all a wonderful concept and I'll certainly be back soon!

Yelp
Maybe my expectations were too high but I was sorely disappointed by Wendell's. The wait isn't too long so I was excited to get seated after a few minutes of waiting. The staff were meh. I just don't feel like they wanted to be there. I got the seeded no 4 which was beets, avocado & ricotta. Okay here's the thing it was $8. Fine. But it was $8 for one slice of toast, a smear of ricotta, half a baby avocado, a whole lot of parsley & im pretty sure a canned beet. A giant canned beet. That was $8. Wtf. That's messed up. The least you can do is give me two slices of bread. The bread was great and the ingredients were good but Jesus the feature of your toasted has a canned item? If it wasn't canned it was weirdly and overly sweet. We also got the biscuits and gravy which was good. It wasn't too heavy. I would eat that again Back to the service. They take your order on a large, awkward hand held device. I get it that you want be electronic but it's giant and in your face. Tasteless. Secondly when you check out they check out in front of you and hand you this device to give the tip. Okay I'm sorry if I'm a weirdo who likes to sit around and talk to whoever I'm with and decide on the top but the waitress is there. STARING YOU IN THE FACE AS YOU GIVE THE TIP & SIGN. lord! Unimpressed. If a friend asks me to come I'd come back with them but I will not willingly come back here. Such a bummer I hope they figure out some of these fixable things.

Yelp
Visited friends in west highlands and found this delicious brunch spot. Very NYC deli/bagel theme with a black & white menu board, NY style bagels, and brick facade. The steak & eggs benny was really savory with a well-seasoned black pepper hollandaise, sautéed mushrooms, chopped kale, and sliced medium steak. Hash browns were plain and could've been seasoned or with onions. Only reason this isn't 5 stars. Staff was cool and nice, and only had a 20 minute wait for 3 at 9:30am on a Sunday when other places nearby had much longer lines outside.

Yelp
Great ambiance located in a really cute neighborhood. We had to wait about 20 minutes and were seated at the community table. I ordered the veggie sammie with sides of greens and hashbrowns. The sammie was delicious. Very cheesey and fresh - a great combination! I ended up only eating half and taking the rest to go.
