"El Segundo’s nickname among locals is “Mayberry By The Sea” and spots like Wendy’s Place on Main Street are the reason why. The wood-paneled walls of this classic diner are covered in Norman Rockwell paintings and the plates look borrowed from grandma’s china cabinet. You'll sit next to regulars who've been occupying the same booth since the moon landing and wonder if you annoyed the waitress by asking for poached eggs. But that's all part of the charm. There's chicken fried steak for breakfast, and something called the Junior Club for lunch (a BLT with chicken salad on raisin toast). Expect to wait on weekends, and bring cash or have your Venmo/Zelle ready (no cards accepted)." - brant cox, sylvio martins, garrett snyder

"You'll get a plateful at Wendy's but you'll have to wait in line for it. On a weekend, you'll often see a hungry group gathered out front of the cafe waiting to feast on their country-styled American breakfasts. It's closed on Mondays and at 2pm every other day but you can get an early start there at 6am! Enjoy the warm, cozy feel of this El Segundo institution and dine among some of the most loyal clientele you'll ever know." - Eat.Sleep.Work.

This was like a step back in time! The food was amazing and this diner is an untouched gem! From the music, to the inside of the restaurant I would recommend this place 10/10 to anyone looking for a great breakfast. I had the eggs Benedict and hash browns

Google
A restaurant with its own vibe and a really cool diner atmosphere, which I found really good. We arrived just in time to not have to wait in line. The prices are definitely affordable for LA so that was good to see. But, for me, the food wasn’t worth it. My omelet was just okay. And, the hasbrown, not really cooked and bland. The meat had a bunch of fat. The food quality wasn’t really there. However, we did really enjoy the French toasts. They were pretty good. Overall, a cool spot but the food didn’t meet my expectations even for that price.

Google
Amazing breakfast, great service and prices are the lowest in the area. Omelettes and French Toast are delicious. We also had the grilled cheese sandwich and it was very good. If you are lucky enough, you will get Sofia as your waitress and she will make sure are well taken care of.

A very good local South Bay country diner that is cash only. All diners to me are either the traditional retro diner or a country diner and this definitely counts as a country diner to me. It’s fairly small on the inside so at busy times there may be a wait. Being a country diner their menu is more limited compared to some other diners but they have a lot of homey classics. Our server was very polite and everything we ordered came out pretty quickly. They don’t have a dedicated parking lot but it’s easy to find street parking or there is a parking structure on the same block with free parking, which is where we parked. Their coffee is very good and strong so I would recommend ordering that, I chose to start my meal with it. For our dishes, we ordered the Eggs Benedict and substituted a sausage patty instead of ham and the Pancake Special. The Eggs Benedict was actually very good and the sausage was a great addition. The eggs were cooked perfectly and overall it was a very good dish. The pancakes were also very nice and fluffy, and the bacon was perfectly crispy. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal even though I tend to avoid cash only places. Aside from that everything else was great and the pricing is fair so I would recommend it to anyone searching for a great breakfast or lunch option.

Google
First time here and order a Joe’s Omlet and it was decent. Nothing spectacular but good. The menu is a bit limited for breakfast, so ended up getting just something basic. The portion size was a little smaller than I expected but it was OK nonetheless, not sure if I would go back for breakfast again.

Google
I was looking for something with a lil more comfort and filling for breakfast while at work. Ran across this lil gem on some research like a couple days prior, and then I pulled the trigger one day and oh my. Tbh it doesn't even seem like it belongs on the block, but it isn't going anywhere, anytime soon! Quaint lil joint tucked on the block, you walk in you get an instant cozy vibe. Like a place where people are still people. One of those places where everyone know everyone. I'll be a regular soon. Food was hot and fresh, delicious, seasoned to perfection. They take cash, but also have a zelle and venmo option which is pretty cool, especially for a place like that. You can tell they're dedicated to the people and giving an overall good experience. I'll be back.

Google
Wendy's Place is awesome! Hard to find a good old school diner like this these days. I had dropped off a friend at LAX early in the morning and was hungry and needed a bathroom before sitting in rush hour traffic back to Pasadena. A quick search for an open diner near me lead me to finding this gem. The man working the dining area was very nice and welcoming. I wish I had gotten his name. The whole place was comforting and welcoming, comfortable booths, wood paneled walls covered in faded and yellowed Norman Rockwell and Saturday Evening Post artwork. Everyone in the place seemed happy, from the staff to the customers. There was a group of 3 or 4 older gentlemen, regulars and definitely old friends, scattered around the place that were chatting and giving each other a hard time in that way only a good friend can (it was hilarious). The food was great, the coffee was strong and never ending, The server tried to send me off with a big to-go cup of coffee but I had already had more than my fill of caffeine for the day. In other words, I loved this place and can't wait to go back. Almost tempted to move to El Segundo just to be a regular at Wendy's Place. ❤️

Google
We enjoyed ourselves at this small old fashioned diner. The chili beans omelet surprised me because the egg actually encased the filling; unlike other diners which ladel the chili beans over the eggs. The gentleman at the counter ordered the oatmeal and I will definitely order that the next time we dine here. Wendy's Place is a gem, from the matching service settings to the joy of the workers.

Yelp
Love Wendy's!! Great breakfasts including delicious omelette's, French toast & pancakes! They also have fantastic lunches!! The best part is you feel like you might see Andy, Barney & Oppy sitting at the counter!

Yelp
Where do all the locals go? Tooling around El Segundo I find Wendy's place to have myself some breakfast. Located on grand Avenue off Main Street is Wendy's place. A very cute little unassuming restaurant filled with local folk. The menu has got to be a blast from the past. The equipment such as their milkshake machine is vintage My waitress made sure my coffee cup was always filled and delivered the food S soon as the kitchen finished preparing the meal El Segundo is close to LAX so it is a place that's convenient for me to stop in and visit. I will definitely be back to Wendy's.

Yelp
WE LOVE Wendy's Place! This cozy diner is a feast for the eyes while you wait for your food, with walls adorned with posters and pictures from the '50s and '60s. The whole vibe is old-school, which feels refreshing compared to all the contemporary and chic brunch spots popping up lately. It's comforting to know places like this still exist in the South Bay, and we love visiting on Saturdays for their weekend special--biscuits and gravy! The biscuits are homemade and extra delicious with that rich gravy on the side. I enjoy all the dishes, but biscuits and gravy is definitely my favorite. My second favorite would have to be the chili omelette--just some authentic meat and bean chili smothered in a cheesy omelette. Nothing beats that for a nice morning brunch! The restaurant gets busy around noon, so I recommend arriving a bit early if you want to avoid waiting 30+ minutes. Overall, Wendy's Place is a true gem! PS. Bring cash or be ready to use your Zelle or Venmo. This place does not accept credit cards!

Yelp
We loved this locally owned family diner. It had great old school character and warm, welcoming charm. The service was very friendly and helpful. Parking can be an issue during busy times. We had breakfast here and tried eggs Benedict and steak n eggs. Everything was very hearty and delicious. Cooked to perfection. We absolutely loved it. This restaurant accepts cash, Venmo or Zelle. No CC which for us was not a problem at all.

Lara S.

Yelp
This is a terrific old fashioned diner with a retro ambiance and real diner food! It was delicious too. We both had ham & cheese omelette with hash browns (onion and bell peppers in mine) and we also shared a short stack of buttermilk pancakes which were amazing. Easily the best pancakes in El Segundo and overall an excellent experience with friendly and wonderful staff. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
It's Father's Day and the wait was bad at 9:30 am. Been waiting for over an Hour. Cash "ONLY"! They seat 3 customers at a 5-6 booth, not a good business decision. Customers lingering in dining area on laptops, totally uncalled for on busy days. Despite all the above this restaurant is a classic, Customer Service is great once you get in, food is fantastic, food gets prepared and delivered very quickly. April our Server was super nice, knowledgeable and helpful. As well as being very attentive.

Yelp
Great spot for breakfast. Traditional breakfast . Loved everything about this feel. The staff was friendly and food was wonderful! Great experience on a Sunday morning! I can't wait to return and try a new item. I tried eggs, bacon, with hashbrowns and some of the best pancakes around.... Real maple syrup! Keep up the wonderful service and food!

Kris A.

Yelp
Breakfast here is delicious! Service is friendly, and they're quick with seating parties. Only walk ins - waited 10mins, not bad for a busy Saturday breakfast place. I love how cozy this diner is. Their plates and coffee cups are like grandma's porcelain collection- it's so pretty! The coffee is good quality and the breakfast dishes is flavorful! Street, neighborhood parking available. There's also a parking lot nearby. Lots of parking available- they also have bar seating. No outdoor patio all indoors.

Richard D.

Yelp
Great coffeeshop food ! Full of regulars and sassy waitresses keeping the old guys in line.

Chris K.

Yelp
It's a little hole in the wall breakfast place in El Segundo. It's right next to Metro Cafe. I think the best charm is the old timey feel of the restaurant. The breakfast dishes are regular diner types. I probably wouldn't come back. But, if you have nostalgia of old El Segundo or any old town feel, this place might do the trick.

Edward W.

Yelp
Wendy's is probably one of my favorite places in El Segundo. Although the only old school diners I've ever seen have been on TV, Wendy's feels like exactly how I would imagine an old school diner feeling. You walk in and there are leather booths or you can sit at the counter. If it's not busy, you can seat yourself. Otherwise, there's a sign-up sheet. My party of 3 went at 10:30 AM on a Saturday and we had to wait about 10 minutes. The service is casual but very friendly. There are so many regulars that the staff seem to know a lot of the patrons there, which is so great to see. I've now been there 3 times, and the food has never missed. I've gotten the corned beef hash (shown in pictures), chicken fried steak, and beef dip sandwich. My friend loves the french toast and has gotten it multiple times. The conclusion? Pick what you want and it'll probably be darn good. Definitely recommend coming here to transport yourself back in time!

Lew W.

Yelp
What a gem! Stepping through the front door is like stepping back in time. Both the servers were delightful. The vibe is relaxed and friendly. If you're a fan of diners, you'll love this restaurant. The food? Top shelf diner cuisine. Fluffy pancakes. The chicken fried chicken and eggs was hearty faire. And the home brewed iced tea was delicious. They don't accept credit cards so either bring cash or Venmo. We will be back!!! Cheers!

Yvonne M.

Yelp
The place is so cute small! Service was amazing but overall the food was great! Will definitely be back! The Ham steak had me dancing in my seat!!!

Richard L.

Yelp
I've been going to Wendy's for a few years and I really like this place. The chicken fried steak along with their poached eggs is my breakfast ticket. The waitresses are always nice and the coffee is fantastic. What else can you ask for? I highly recommend Wendy's when you're in the area but remember they're only there for breakfast and lunch and they're closed on Mondays.

Joe G.

Yelp
Wendy's is a staple in El Segundo, and if it ever closes its doors, it will truly be the end of an era. I've been eating here for 50 years, and I don't know how long my dad loved this place before that. Fridays are my favorite with the Fish Fry and clam chowder. Weekend breakfast is amazing and a GREAT way to start off a weekend. The staff is ALWAYS amazing, and they've worked there for ever and actually care. The ambiance is my favorite part! This place is just old and old school. It's a blast from the past and I love it.

Lewis C.

Yelp
Simple, but fabulous diner. Great food. Great service. Classic setting. Omelettes are well made and come with hash browns. Pancakes are fluffy and have that nice malty flavor that you can never seem to replicate at home. French toast is also delicious. They have a French Toast special that also comes with two eggs and your choice of bacon or sausage. It's a winner.

Wendy L.

Yelp
Food was great. The sausages were delicious. Loved the biscuits. Loved the Raisin Bran bread. My husband enjoyed his gravy. Service was good. Ambiance is good. Family restaurant.

Yelp
**4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars** When you step into Wendy's Place, it feels like you're transported back in time to an old school diner. I've missed diner food so much since moving out of New Jersey and this place reminded me of it. It seems like they offer a lot of classic, simple dishes, but they do them all really well. I ordered the Junior Club on raisin bread ($11.95) since that was the recommendation from the waitress. I was a bit skeptical at first, but it actually paired perfectly! The bread added a light sweetness to all the ingredients. It ended up being one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. Another great thing about this place is the service. The waitresses are accommodating and super nice -- it seems like there's a bunch of regulars here who they remember and really get to know. This is definitely a great spot in El Segundo with diner ambiance, personable service, solid food, and reasonable prices!

Suzie L.

Yelp
Old school hospitality and service! This is the genuine old-school American diner. We visited on a Saturday morning and there was a queue. The food is nothing fancy, but it's good and hearty and the service is friendly and fast! No wonder it's such a hit with the locals!

Suzie M.

Yelp
The food is amazing , the service is excellent and the ambiance is very home like . I've never been dissatisfied or disappointed, my only concern is my belly is always craving for the next visit .

Howie C.

Yelp
If you want real time, old-school nostalgia, This is the place I mean who was off the charts service was impeccable and the ambience made me feel like I was in a movie from the 60s.

Mike C.

Yelp
Awesome long time local spot for delicious classic comfort food. Breakfast and lunch expertly prepared and excellent service. If you don't love Wendy's Place you're a mad little nugget. Almost always super busy this is a cozy spot for solo diners at the counter and groups in the booths. Sandwiches, breakfasts all recommended. My order is Jose's Special, home fries with onions and peppers and a coffee with cream.

Colin O.

Yelp
Nice little hole in the wall restaurant. friendly staff and customers. Food is okay for the price.

Mary Lyn M.

Yelp
Tiny but great service and excellent food. Airport nearby in El Segundo and took relatives just as they got off flight. It has the ambiance of a 1950's diner with a breakfast bonanza of amazing food you haven't seen since you were with Ma & Pa in Iowa. Great fun and food. My family loved it! (We're all from the Midwest!)

Scott B.

Yelp
Wendy's Place in El Segundo radiates small-town charm, complemented by friendly service and a cash-only policy that adds to its unique appeal. The French Toast truly hit the spot with each delicious bite. The experience is elevated by the use of porcelain plateware and coffee cups, adding a touch of elegance to your visit. Convenient parking, despite occasional busyness, makes it a must-visit spot for those seeking both nostalgia and a satisfying meal!

Nick C.

Yelp
Nothing but great things to say about Wendy's Place. This local gem popped up in my feed while I was at work and I happened to be craving a true American classic diner experience. The seating area is fairly small and tight, but that makes for a great atmosphere and some nice conversations with other diners if that's your sort of thing. I sat at the bar and was greeted by a couple friendly ladies, promptly served coffee and water. I decided on the chicken fried steak with hash brown, over medium eggs, sourdough toast and asked for a side of bacon. Wendy's came out all aces. The gravy was thick, creamy and delicious and the has browns were perfectly cooked. The toast was delectable and everything went so well together. They were training a new girl as I was eating as well so that was a nice sight to see. I look forawrd to dining here in the future!

Ammar M.

Yelp
Great food, fast and friendly service, and retro ambiance. Ordered the corned beef hash; wife took the french toast special. Both were cooked perfectly with fantastic flavor and texture. The hash comes as two patties, which allows for a great double-sided crust. If I was a local, this would be my spot - it clearly holds that place for many regulars we saw. Definitely a cheers vibe where everyone knows your name.

Shah M.

Yelp
A fantastically cozy breakfast diner right next to LAX. I have made it a ritual to have Wendy's before an early flight and it makes the whole airport experience much better. Great staff, great food, great prices, great atmosphere, great crowd.

Jose G.

Yelp
The chicken fried steak is amazing! I feel like I traveled into 1950 I highly recommend eating at Wendy's

Charles M.

Yelp
Awesome restaurant! This is an old school cafe ! I'm not local but felt like everyone else was!! Good food and good portions... I'll be back for sure

Desmond S.

Yelp
The service was great the waitresses was nice and attentive, the food was served promptly and hot. The seasoning and the ambiance was that of a classic neighborhood dinner, kind takes you back to a time period when the restaurant cares about their products and their patrons. Has become one of my go- to's.

Lulu B.

Yelp
Cozy place. Great food. Vintage diner. The old style plates make you feel like you are in grandmas house lol

Rosie S.

Yelp
The food is great for the price. Servers seem like they are tired of being there. It's probably long timers or the owners. The ambiance is traditional dinner which I love. Will definitely be bringing friends and family here for breakfast.

Tracy P.

Yelp
This is a local gem! I love the hometown diner vibe and the food is consistently good. I feel truly lucky to have comfort food so close by and I feel a swell of pride for our town walking by and seeing the place bustling with customers and even people waiting outside on the weekends. The service is friendly and efficient. My favorite meal is breakfast but you can't go wrong with any of their lunch options either. For breakfast, we love the Joe's Special Omelette and the French Toast Special (gotta have both savory and sweet). For lunch, I have to get the classic patty melt! This is the place to be when you want home style comfort food in a welcoming environment.

Lyndsey A.

Yelp
GREAT FOOD!! I had the corned beef hash with sunny side up eggs and hash browns with a side of hollandaise on my food!? Totally delicious!! Will be back!!

Karl S.

Yelp
Friendly service and good food. One of the better club sandwiches I've had. Would visit again.

Dover B.

Yelp
The food is ok, I am giving this place five stats for the friendly service. The ambience is like being in a 1950's diner. It's quaint.

Bill M.

Yelp
Great food. Great service. I will be back. I had the country fried steak and eggs. It was great.

Christina D.

Yelp
The food was great the service was amazing we will definitely be back! I loved how old school the place was simple and felt like home.

Kwok S.

Yelp
Take me back to time. This wood paneling decor and Norman Rockwell art Diner has a special charm and it's tucked away in Downtown El Segundo. By all means, if you're waiting for your flight and want a good breakfast spot, come here and meet the friendly wait staff and the chef Frank and make any special diet restricted meal upon request. Of course no diner would not be complete without their rich dark coffee with unlimited refills. I literally walk out with the jitters when I'm done with my meal. The star item that is a must for me is the chicken fried chicken steak dish. I get the home fries with onions and bell peppers extra crispy, with the chicken gravy. They do have the darker meatloaf gravy as well, just be specific on which one you prefer and of course I'll add a sunny side up egg with a side of buttered english muffin and I'll slap on some grape or orange jam on it. Isn't that an epic breakfast? Honestly, the food is good. The ambiance is good. The restaurant staff is good. No need to go to Ihop of Denny's when the food comes out hot, fast, and delicious.

Guy B.

Yelp
The food was fantastic, the wait help was friendly and fast, ambiance was mid 60s and pretty cool. Best breakfast in town.

Jaime W.

Yelp
This place is a cozy little breakfast place in Downtown El Segundo. I've been here a few times and the food hits the spot. If I recall correctly, I had the chicken fried steak for breakfast and it was really good! The food takes a little longer to come out but as long as it's fresh, I don't mind so much. I find it worth mentioning only because some breakfast places serve food a little faster. So, if you have a busy day ahead/tight schedule, my recommendation would be to come here earlier. Bonus: You can pay your bill with Venmo here!!

Pablo F.

Yelp
Food is ok ... ambience is good nice and friendly people (clients) service is terrible... 30 minutes wait for 2 sunny side up eggs and they bring scrambled eggs.... And the lady with terrible actitud..

Urzus G.

Yelp
Hands-down one of the best places to eat breakfast here in Los Angeles. The service and the cooks and the overall environment is very much amazing. If you love vintage music and a vintage environment with great prices and unique delicious food, this is the place to be. We enjoyed this place from the time we walked to the time we left and the service was impeccable. Even though they only had one waiter, it felt like they had 100. He was so attentive and service is fast and delicious. Again, we will be coming back!

Chad W.

Yelp
Worst eggs Benedict I've ever had in my life. Customer service was great. But when you order eggs Benedict you're expecting hollandaise sauce not a bowl of nacho cheese completely smothering the entire meal couldn't even taste the English muffin egg or ham because it was 90% cheese sauce there was so much sauce on mine I couldn't even see the food underneath I should have ordered the sauce on the side because they put way too much and ruined the entire meal

Martin C.

Yelp
Friendliest chef ‍ I ever met! His name probably Frank... looks like a Frank from NYC. HEY! Whatcha got there! Your going to love the aesthetics! Faded Puzzles pieces stitched into frames. put together from a long gone era.... beautiful memories from an older era I'm too lazy to lookup on google, on the wall. The restroom has Norman Rockwell posters! But you must brave through the kitchen to use it. Haven't even tried the food yet, but based on presence alone I'm expecting a good burger, because I got my experience already ... UPDATE: the burger was HUGE! and tasty! Can't go wrong with a "Modern" Era Lettuce wrap, although its not wrapped just slapped on the patty like a bad bun! haha.... Uhhh.. But I've only known a few places who ACTUALLY WRAP THE PATTY USING LEAF LETTUCE! It's amazing when they do it right. Otherwise, Its a meeeee Mariooo!

Donna M.

Yelp
Very quaint space, with nostalgic ambience, great service and excellent food that tastes like home cooking! I can tell it was a home town restaurant ... the staff was as acquainted with their customers much like family.... It was beautiful to witness and, in that moment, I wished I lived in that community so I could have more breakfasts there...

Morgan L.

Yelp
Small inside like a good old diner. Great food and fast service! Nice staff and overall a great experience.
