Wendy’s UK Restaurant Menu Is Full of Frostys and Baconators | Eater London

"The newly opened Reading outpost of the U.S. fast-food chain announces itself with a three-foot-tall gold statue of its signature frozen drink. Its menu leans on brand staples — square burgers, the Baconator, the Frosty (including an off-menu 'black and white' chocolate-and-vanilla swirl that Eater NY critic Ryan Sutton called "truly the quintessential American fast-food dessert"), and spicy chicken nuggets that deliver actual heat. The opening completes a long-promised U.K. push that was in the works since 2019 and marks a return after the chain left the market in the early 2000s; the operation is as well known for its hyperactive Twitter persona as for its food. The company also arrives amid controversy over low starting wages (reported as low as $8/hour), public comments blaming income inequality for sales stagnation, refusal to join the Fair Food Program, and frequent worker involvement in Fight for $15 strikes — it promises "no-zero hours" contracts for U.K. staff but has not disclosed starting pay. In a market already crowded with large American chains, this Reading site will test whether theatrical marketing and signature menu items translate into lasting success." - James Hansen

Popeyes Chicken Plans First U.K. Restaurant Opening in London | Eater London

"The American fast-food chain is slated to open in Reading ahead of a rival entrant, but its expansion arrives against a backdrop of labour disputes: workers at the chain have joined employees from other brands in campaigning for a $15 minimum wage, underlining tensions between rapid multinational growth and demands for better pay and conditions." - James Hansen

Wendy’s Menu Will Bring Frosty and Baconator to Reading Restaurant | Eater London

"A planned central Reading restaurant that has been in development since 2019 and stems from the brand’s 2018 announcement of an ambitious U.K. expansion. The chain’s menu highlights—spicy chicken nuggets, a pourable and well-liked Frosty, and large, meat-forward burgers—have earned it both critical approval and mass social-media attention, which the company frequently amplifies via Twitter-led stunts and online feuds. Alongside the marketing buzz, the chain’s labor and supply-chain record (low starting wages, refusal to join certain farm-labor protections) and ongoing worker organizing have provoked scrutiny that accompanies the rollout." - James Hansen

They have halal spicy chicken, classic chicken burgers and also nuggets. I tried spicy chicken burger. It was not much spicy, small and was ok. Nothing special about it. Can find much better burgers from local burger shops for the same or less price.

Went here on a Saturday morning around 8, it was fairly quiet and the staff were lovely and friendly, the service was great too! It looked clean and the food was excellent 👌 we had the Breakfast Baconator and Wrap and their Chocolate Frosty drink. Fully recommend 👍

Ordered a Dave's combo from the self service kiosk. Price was £7.69 for a burger, fries and hot drink. Plenty of customisation available including toppings on the burger, choice of jacket potato instead of fries or a hot or cold drink. Ordered and popped into the one of two toilets and when I came out, meal was ready to be collected. Plenty of seating around 4pm. Burger beef patty not as good as Burger King nor Five Guys in my opinion but better than other chains.

My experience at Wendy's in Reading was generally very good, though there were a few areas that could be improved. ✅Pros: Delicious burgers! The fries and the bacon & cheese potatoes are also top-notch. The Flat White coffee is excellent and definitely worth trying. The ice cream is delightful, not overly sweet. Overall, there are no complaints about the food. The place is always kept clean and tidy, with no unpleasant smells, and the staff is very polite. Special thanks to the cleaner who was polite and competent. ❌Cons: The interior is quite simple, and the furniture has become worn over time. Regarding the food: my daughters ordered one burger without mayonnaise and another without pickles. When the order arrived, it was difficult to tell which burger was which, and whose fries were whose. It would be helpful if the food with modifications was clearly marked to avoid confusion. 🔶Overall impression: Wendy's in Reading offers a tasty and satisfying dining experience, with a few minor issues that could be addressed to improve customer satisfaction. Nonetheless, it's a great place for a casual meal with good service.

I'm honestly a bit disappointed. I'm used to Wendy's in the US, and this was just a sad reminder of how poor local management can ruin something that I have been looking forward to. The place is less than a year old and it looks neglected in terms of the food. The burgers were somewhat soggy, one drinks machine was broken, the other served only lukewarm flat drinks, no ice available. I'd recommend the US HQ to review the state of the place. Despite being in the center of reading, it was really empty, a bunch of teens were sitting there using foul language without ordering anything while waiting for their bus.. it just made me feel uncomfortable to even be there with my wife & baby. I rank it up one extra star for the service, the local staff seems to be doing their best, the waiting time was minimal, and I did get some chilled cans after asking. The interior is also ok. If I had some US friends coming over, I would simply recommend them not to go, to avoid disappointment. I'd also tell my British friends, please give Wendy's another chance when you get to visit the US.

I tried the Baconator combo with 4 spicy chicken nuggets, it came up to a total of £13.18 which is quite expensive. It is quite easy to spend atleast £10 because everything is quite expensive. The service is quick and it is simple ordering on the self service machines, it's good that you can remove or add additional items to your food such as burgers. In burgers you can easily remove the cheese, mayo, ketchup etc. You can even remove the buns and even replace it with lettuce. Spicy chicken nuggets were good but didn't really have much spice, they are definitely more expensive than other locations. The burger was good perhaps with a lot of fast food restaurants they probably have food like bacon frozen then heated up and cooked when required. If you are a big fan of bacon you could be disappointed. Baconator burger is still a nice burger that I would be happy to recommend if you can justify the cost. Chips are well done with no complaints. A drink can be added for free in the combo meal. There isn't much room to sit down and eat. It's best to take away when it is busy. It's a good fast food location that has good food but it is quite expensive for a fast food restaurant.

Not enough seating for the demand. Burgers were really nice. Meat was tasty and salad was very fresh and crunchy. The chicken nuggets were fairly tasteless. The chilli fries were cold, watery and unpleasant to be honest - will go back but would just have normal fries next time. Drinks fountain is great and can refill for no extra money.
