The 38 Best Restaurants in Taipei | Eater

"To call this city-wide institution a “shop” would be an overstatement. But while insignificant in size, this street stall amid the bustle of National Taiwan Normal University on Heping East Road draws a gargantuan line of hungry patrons, regardless of time of day or even weather conditions. The reward for their patience? The shop’s luo bo si bing, or radish cake. Seasoned strips of radish are stuffed into a pastry shell and deep-fried to perfection, resulting in a crispy exterior and steaming, crunchy inside. Another star is the cong you bing, or green onion pancake: Green onion gets rolled into a flaky dough, which is then fried in oil and served with the optional runny egg topper. [$]" - Clarissa Wei

The dough is pan fried until crispy and the radish inside is plentiful. The size is quite big compared to other places. However I find the filling to be a bit too raw and slightly bland. The sauce definitely helps with it. Overall it is pretty good and worth a try. There aren’t any indoor seating but there are a few benches in front of the shop.

Haven’t had stuffed deep-fried daikon (white radish) like this before, super satisfying and full of flavor. A great spot for daikon lovers. One piece is quite filling with super cheap price, perfect for breakfast or a quick snack during the day. Best with a splash of light soy sauce or spicy fermented bean paste, both go so well with it. There are a few seats right in front of the shop too. On colder days, the line can get long, but they’re quick and efficient, even if the staff don’t seem like so friendly. Still, they get the job done well.

6/6/2025 I went back again around 1:00 p.m.. but the radish pancake has a lot more dough like in the previous review. So the inconsistency of thin radish pancake dough would be your luck of who is making the pancakes. Also realize that you could add an egg to the radish pancake, instead of on the green onion pancake. Which I think egg on the green and in pancakes tastes better. 6/1/2025 I realize the reason why the radish pancake has less radish. It is because both time I went there right before they're closing and they don't have much ingredients left so they try to stretch as much as possible. So you want regular amount of radish in the pancake. You should go between the hours of 12:00 noon to 5 pm. Old For some reason their radish pancake has less radish then before. No it has more dough and less radish so from the outside he still look the same.

Excellent radish cake deep fried style. Best to eat while hot and fresh. Put some hot sauce on it to accentuate the radish flavor. I got there right at opening at 7am so only waited a couple minutes!

I personally didn’t like the radish cake. The bread outside didn’t have any flavor, and neither did the inside. Not worth the wait in my opinion.

My pictures don’t really do this place justice. This is a seriously good spot for scallion pancakes. The pancakes are deep fried, and you have the choice of whether or not to add an egg. I only tried the scallion pancake, but it was flaky and delicious, lots of fresh scallions, and very delicious. It is pretty oily since it is deep fried, but definitely worth a visit. The egg was soft and juicy too, not often I have deep fried eggs. Price is extremely reasonable. Definitely recommend.

Was on a trip there last week visiting my aunt with my family, she lives around the corner so while I was waiting for them I decided to get a scallion pancake. Flavor bomb. Nicely salted great onion taste and thick. My daughter loved it too. Compared to what scallion pancakes I've been eating here (thin, no flavor, either barely fried or fried to a crisp) in the states this is leagues ahead.

Most definitely worth the half an hour wait in line for freshly made radish bun and scallion pancakes. The daikon radish filled puffs are crisp on the outside and have a great fresh radish taste. My favorite was still the scallion pancake. I will make sure to taste the egg pancake and the sweet bun filled with red bean paste.
