Decided to come give West & Co a shot because they appeared at Taste of Culver City and their "bite" was incredible.
In the lobby of a Hilton hotel off Centinela just west of Sepulveda. Valet parking, restaurant validates.
Sign at the hostess stand said take a menu and seat yourself so we did. Someone came to greet us, took our drink order within a few minutes. Iced tea and a Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin (on tap!). Drinks took a minute but then our order was taken.
Started with clam chowder, crispy fish tacos, and tuna tartare. The tartare was featured at Taste so I had to try it again.
Food took a few mins to come out, soup and tacos first, tartare shortly thereafter.
Tacos: delish. Crispy, light, spicy mayo, double corn tortilla.
Soup: interesting flavors, not quite the bright cream-and-clam taste, feels like theres a worcestershire or something else in it making the base a little darker than usual and changing the flavor. Reasonable amount of clams, potatoes cooked through, not amazing but if i want chowder it will do.
Tartare: taro chips it came with looked epic. Tartare itself not so great. Some of the fish was gray-colored, and the avocado was not bright green. Fish also didn't smell good. Sent it back, asked for the short rib flatbread instead.
And it was worth it. Short rib is delicious, melted cheese, mushroom, fresh arugula, sweet glaze (balsamic maybe?). Hit the spot.
Overall, 4 out of 5. Service was alright, the way they handled the food issue was spot on. I will be back. PS noticed they have a happy hour menu. Bomb.
