Where to Find Crispy, Cheesy Birria Tacos Around Nashville - Eater Nashville

"West Coast was one of the places in Nashville to find California cult-favorite birria (red) tacos, carne asada fries, and California-style burritos. Order online or call 615-891-7666 to place an order for takeout or delivery. The dining room and patio are also open." - Delia Jo Ramsey

Google
If you are looking for some California style burrito this is definitely the place to go. Their queso could have a little spice to it but over all not bad. Loved their papa chorizo tacos. Their breakfast burritos are also all day which was a nice surprise.

Felicia Deen (Chyna)

Google
This was my first time visiting here. I purchased 8 crunchy beef tacos, 1 fish taco and 2 sodas. They charged me extra to add sour cream and pico. I understand charging extra for queso, but sour cream and pico? I tried to pick a taco up and it fell apart- all of them did. It looked as if i purchased a taco salad. It was soggy, not crunchy at all and very bland. No seasoning! The fish taco looked and tasted like a frozen fish stick that comes in a bag. Not good at all. I paid $52 for something that i didn’t eat. The Dr. Pepper was the only good thing.

Google
Such a yummy little hidden gem of a restaurant! We got a fajita platter to share (1 adult, 2 kids) and the serving size was perfect! We are excited to come back.

Amy Martinez

Google
This was a pleasant surprise. What we ordered was flavorful and spicy, which is just how we like it. Can't wait to return to try other foods on the menu. And the staff was A+

Justin Cronan

Google
Rolled tacos have no meat it’s 90% cheese and lettuce on top. Same with my west coast burrito all fill and hardly any meat. This place used to be better now it’s bland and all filler

Google
Got food poisoning a couple weeks ago from eating a burrito at this place. While I was on the can, my dog ended up eating some of the same burrito and got food poisoning as well. We thought she might die based on her conditions but he ended up working it out of her system after about 2 days and is all right. So be aware when eating here. I will say before this time I've eaten here almost a dozen times with no issues. So I do hope this is a one-time thing but I will not be coming back.

Google
The food is reasonably priced and excellent. My husband was impressed with the portion of meat in his Taco salad. Cool decor. A little too hot inside. The ice machine was broken and the women's restroom had no paper towels, but was clean. We will probably go back.

Google
Really good vegetarian selection. Can make stuff vegan with no cheese. Guacamole was good, rice and beans were standouts, but the main two reasons I am giving this place 5 stars was the guacamole salsa and the chips. Both were insanely delicious. Some of the better chips I’ve had at a Mexican restaurant. Thick, crisp, salty, and slightly oily. Just the perfect chip. The decor is really cool. It’s the type of spot you walk up to counter and order and then go back to the counter to pick up the food. You seat yourself. The lighting is cool because each table has its own light. Great for the visually impaired.

Yelp
West Coast Taco Shop is a great option for a meal if you are in Nashville, Tennessee. I went with their California burrito, which perfectly blended steak, French fries, and various other ingredients to make a fantastic lunch. The place has a rather straightforward ambiance and the ordering process is that you order at the counter and they call out your number. They have a nice salsa bar with varying heat levels of salsa. I went with their extra hot and their guacamole. All in all, I would definitely recommend West Coast Taco Shop for a meal. I am a huge fan of California burritos (where they put French fries in the burrito) and sadly, a lot of places don't offer this particular style of burrito. West Coast Taco Shop stands out for offering this delightful version of burrito. I would definitely recommend here and I give it five stars.

Yelp
On a quest for the best Birria tacos. Ordered online, so it may be better fresh but will probably not be my first option going forward. Birria broth was good but tacos themselves were pretty underwhelming. Tortillas weren't soaked enough or crispy enough to feel like Birria so they just felt soggy. Meat was good but fatty. Elite was the real bummer. Definitely canned corn. SOOO salty and there had to have been a cup of corn water sitting in the bottom when I was done. It's okay. But there are MUCH better at comparable price points in the area.

Yelp
First time eating here (well, it was carry out). Restaurant was clean and staff was friendly. I ordered a chicken taco and steak fajita platter and both were GREAT! Highly recommended!
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I saw this place while driving by and decided to stop in. We were so disappointed. The pollo plate tasted like it was fresh out of the microwave, complete with room temperature beans. The salsa we paid for tasted like canned tomato. My shrimp burrito was so watery it fell apart and I couldn't make out any of its contents. The chair my boyfriend was sitting in was broken as well and he almost fell backwards

Yelp
This is another restaurant I recommend for delicious and filling burritos! You can get them in store or on DoorDash. The food is always good, no complaints from me.
google avatar

Alfonso P.

Yelp
The food was pretty good, but the owner of Oscar's Taco shop says he's affiliated with this restaurant and he is SO ANNOYING. The staff is nice at West Coast Taco Shop, but the Oscar's owner shouldn't ever argue with me about how this is just as good or the exactly the same thing as taquerias in California. I mean chill out dude. Other than that, West Coast Taco Shop is worth trying!
google avatar

Joseph M.

Yelp
Incredible food. Incredible service. Couldn't be a better experience in Nashville. Make sure you get the Cali Burrito!
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Good place for a quick lunch! In the past I've had their quesadilla and burritos. Today I ordered tacos. The chicken quesadilla is AMAZING! It'll definitely fill you up. I highly recommend it. The west coast burrito is very good as well. I think it's my 2nd favorite thing here. Today I ordered a Birria Taco and 3 Asada Street Tacos "original." Both types of tacos were good. I thought they were expensive until I received them. If the price scares you off, just know that it's well worth it with how big they are. The street tacos were packed with meat. I could have probably only ordered 2. Otherwise they were very good! I topped them with like, salt, and guacamole salsa. The Birria taco was exactly what I expected. There is something about a Birria taco that makes it unique so when a restaurant does it spot on like it should be, it's very familiar. Crunchy, crispy, juicy, and drippy. Pure perfection! They have a very large menu here, and I am sure everything is great. It all sounds so good!!! Each time I have visited I have tried something new.....which is a new concept to me.

Yelp
Holy cow if I could give this 100 stars I would. The food and service are spectacular. I am from out of town and at a training near by for a week and went for lunch two days in a row and will be going back for a third day. I wish I could take this place home with me!
google avatar

Leah D.

Yelp
Tasty little taco shop with a variety of tacos, burritos, nachos, and even breakfast burritos! Reasonable prices for such large quantities too. There is a salsa bar which added a nice element to the place. I will be back!
google avatar

Londi M.

Yelp
Pissed! I had to take my fish tacos back because they burnt them the first time . The second time it looked like they didn't even cook them fresh and the breading was falling off . I always eat at this chain but this location sucks tbh.
google avatar

Daynna W.

Yelp
This place was delicious. The service was great. The restaurant was clean and the food was amazing. They have been recommended as the best Birria tacos in Nashville. The Birria tacos were amazing but the Birria sub (can't remember the true name) was absolutely delicious. The guacamole was the smoothest guacamole I've ever had and tasted great. They also have Mexican cokes which we all know are elite. We tried the shrimp tacos which didn't disappoint either. Overall a solid choice! I wish I had taken a pic of the cool art work it was great.
google avatar

Annilet G.

Yelp
I absolutely love West Coast Taco Shop. The food is always tasty, and I always leave satisfied. The atmosphere is chill and relaxed; great for something quick and casual. The staff is really friendly as well. Seriously one of the best taco shops in the area.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Every single Taco I've eaten here has been phenomenal. The quality of proteins and fresh vegetables make for some tasty ass Tacos. I'll update this later with a photo. By the time I think out taking a photo the food is already gone.
google avatar

Jake A.

Yelp
If you are looking for trendy Mexican food, this place is great. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food.. not so much. Tacos, even the "original" come on flour, or at least mine did. Anyone who eats authentic knows that this is not correct. There are no taco dinners (authentic is 3 tacos, rice, and beans). Have to order everything separately. All in all, as stated before. Trendy, not authentic... but a good place to eat if you are a fan of Tex mex visiting Nashville.
google avatar

Brittany L.

Yelp
Just happened upon this place while in Nashville and woOoOw was it good!! We were the only people inside (idk why but don't let it scare you away!) I got the pollo plate and it was basically a steaming hot fajita plate with guac, sour cream, cheese, beans, rice, tortillas! The chicken was so juicy and flavorful that I'm still thinking about it! Something tells me you won't regret anything you get from here
google avatar

Bobby H.

Yelp
Just to let y'all know.... I just ate the WORLD'S BEST CHICKEN QUESADILLA* here! Granted, I did ask for grilled onions and vegetables too be added. The tortilla was HUGE and thick... and I loved it from the first bite! I'll be back! * in my humble opinion
google avatar

Emmy A.

Yelp
I've learned that i'm not a fan of Birria, so I'll give them 4 stars. The other food was good.
google avatar

Mae D.

Yelp
Got my toes done next door & wanted something quick to eat! This definitely hit the spot & was super quick! Food was delicious and the customer service was great! I will be back!
google avatar

Quin B.

Yelp
West Coast Taco Shop definitely had a variety of options on the menu. This is not authentic Mexican food nor tex-mex. I guess this is a form of cali-mexican food which I have never had. Tex-mex is the only benchmark I have to compare it to. The food was decent at the least. I will revisit this place as I was not happy with my selections. I love a goood burrito and I think I picked the wrong one. Probably should have went with the west coast burrito. I was missing the cheese, sour cream, and other condiments that make for a tasty burrito. The taco tasted plain and needed more to it, which is offered in the menu also. I will be going back and updating this review.

Yelp
Conveniently right next to my favorite store, THE DISC GOLF STORE. This place was favored by my disc squad so we stopped and i got a california burrito. And this was one of the most authentic Cali burritos I've had SINCE San Diego. Primo stuff.
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
One of the few things I have longingly missed about San Diego is a good taco shop. I'm talking the kind that can only be found in Southern California. Rolled tacos with guacamole and cojita cheese, a carne asada burrito, hot carrots, hot sauce ! I'm talking the kind that is unique to any taco shop. In Nashville going on 3 years and FINALLY! This place nailed it!
google avatar

Jason W.

Yelp
Food is great. Been here many times. I decided today to get a meal deal and add a huge burrito. I asked if I could upgrade the drink. She said yes and than charged me for a completely new drink and kept the small one you get with the meal. I guess the answer really was no you can't.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
Great taco shop with cool west coast underground-style decor! Solid variety of their menu, from breakfast to dinner, with many dishes covered. In our group we tried the quesadilla (HUGE), taco salad, and tacos! All were pretty good, with quick service & kind employees, it's a good stop!

Alexis H.

Yelp
This place rocks! 2nd time coming here & it blew me away both times. There meats are seasoned well & the salsa is hot with great flavor!
google avatar

Monica K.

Yelp
It's the Birria tacos and consome for me. What a flavorful combination. The nicely chopped onions and crunch just does something to me. I enjoyed my shrimp taco as well. The menu is so overwhelming due to the many options. I guess I'll have to come back and try something different.
google avatar

Chewie B.

Yelp
I really really tried to like this place after going three times. First trip, the Birria tacos. Not bad, but not great. I'd say 6 out of 10. Not worth the trip for these. Second trip, west coast steak burrito. You'd think the item on the menu named after the place would be the best...it was meh. Steak was super tough and chewy...4 out of 10. The last trip in had was their "Meal Deal" which seemed okay by the description. Not really. The rolled chicken tacos were warm at best, burnt on the inside. The flat corn tortilla thing was stale, just had to eat the beans off the top. The crunchy beef taco was bland. I wouldn't recommend this place if you want Mexican food.
google avatar

Kyle V.

Yelp
Hidden gem right outside the airport that was perfect for a lunch stop. Yes, the prices are higher than most taco joints. I ordered 2 Birria Tacos with cheese and the consome to dip them in. I also ordered a chicken taco (cali style) and a steak taco (classic style). The Birria tacos were fantastic and I was excited to try them since they are a popular option now. This was my first time trying a Birria taco and it didn't disappoint. The other tacos weren't bad but they seemed very plain and boring. It didn't help that their salsa bar was empty during this pandemic, but the tacos seemed dry and missing flavor. My copilot had a burrito and the chips with guacamole. He loved his meal as well and the portions were perfect. Overall, very friendly staff, clean dining room, and large menu. This is a great spot that's close to the airport!
google avatar

Trey Y.

Yelp
Really tasty Birria tacos and awesome salsa bar! I ordered three birria (2 beef, 1 pastor) and all three were incredible. Extremely juicy and a generous amount of cheese and onion. The consommé was 4/5 as it lacked a bit of flavor. I also ordered a cheese dip, which is hard to mess up, but it hit the spot. If I'm back in the area I will definitely stop by, but I don't know if I'll go out of my way -- still a 8/10 experience.
google avatar

Roseanne V.

Yelp
Stopped by with friends for a quick lunch. Food was decently priced, everything was clean and beautifully decorated. Food was good, though I found the chips to be very salty and too much (cold) cheese on top of my burrito bowl.
google avatar

Sum H.

Yelp
I tried this place out of the blue, got two orders of Birria Tacos-- they were delicious. The wait was SO minimal . I ordered and it like 10 mins later it was ready. They don't put any lime in the box with the tacos tho but maybe they already used lime making the consume idk I'm just used to that I also LOVED the tacos were not SOGGY!! Perfect job. This place doesn't have margaritas though which is okay but that would've made this a true 5 star experience!! I'd def come back and try other stuff or even get the Birria Tacos again they were bomb!! 9/10
google avatar

Ashley T.

Yelp
This place is legit! I got the three rolled beef tacos with guac and refried beans. It was soooo good! There was a ton of lettuce on top that fell off while I was eating so I got some salsa from their salsa bar and topped the lettuce and ate it as a salad. I didn't want to waste a bite of my food. I'm only in Nashville for three days but I think I may have to go back there tomorrow.
google avatar

Victor V.

Yelp
The place was very nice and had a lot of art on the wall it was very creative. The Barria tacos were very good and were mouth watering. The horchata was very sweet and tasty as well.
google avatar

Rob B.

Yelp
While the decor on the walls was kinda cool, the food was not anything to get excited about. The carne asada tasted like they bought the expired steak and threw it straight to the grill, no flavor whatsoever. The chips and cheese were absolutely horrible. Hot cheese sauce out of a can maybe. Microwave special? Aside from all of that, there was plenty of staff behind the counter with very little business but the place was a mess, no clean tables.
google avatar

Nalika V.

Yelp
We have been multiple times in the last 2 years and recommend this place often....probably will pull back after the experience with the food today. Went and ordered multiple things including a carne asada burrito. When we got the burrito the tortilla was cold and when we cut in half to start eating it the meat was cold. Not like it was fresh meat and the guac and pico made it cold...meat was totally cold. Husband went back and explained and they were nice enough to remake it. Same thing with the second one. You can see in the kitchen and we saw a big container of cooked carne asada meat sitting on the counter so definitely safe to assume they cook it in big quantities and then let it sit there and then use that throughout the day considering both of our burritos were cold. Really sucks cause we liked this place. Rest of the food we ordered...corn, shrimp taco, and rolled tacos were decent.

LaTricia D.

Yelp
The woman at the counter seemed annoyed, the sodas tasted off, and the salsa tasted like tomato paste. The tacos had a good flavor, but overall I would say it's "Okay".

Jeff W.

Yelp
I love this place. Just good, solid Mexican food. They have a meal deal listed on the window and it's my favorite so far. Great price with great food. Great lunch place.
google avatar

Laya M.

Yelp
The food was pretty good but presentation could be better. There were only a few shrimp in the entire thing and I guess they switched from traditional fries, to crinkle cut ones. Oh, and cut up the steak more! A bit lazy with the huge pieces of beef in the fries
google avatar

Ornella S.

Yelp
Not impressed. I ordered the special 3 tacos carnitas, pastor and chicken. Imagine going to Picasso store, and getting a knock off painting...disappointing right? If you read this, it is not too late, my advice...do not order the fish or chicken tacos - I can assure you will be disappointed. The pork tacos (carnitas, pastor) were decent: the meat was seasoned. Otherwise everything else was trash. The taco shell was trash. The guacamole was trash (imagine gas station guac). The tomato was trash - I cannot believe they served it with raw tomato instead of pico de Gallo. The chicken tacos was distasteful. It was boiled pieces of salted chicken mixed with the trashy ingredients mentioned above. I had to load up on the hot sauce, even then could not finish the meal.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Wow, I brought my wife and my parents while on vacation in the Brentwood area. We wanted something different so we figured we give this place a try as we overheard an employee at our hotel mention this spot. I ordered the Birria tacos with the extra sauce to dip them. All I can say is amazing. Everyone tried them and they were also amazed on how good they tasted. I also had a piece of everyone's dishes and every single one was great. Have to give credit where credit is due, this place is a must try if your in the vicinity.

Darian H.

Yelp
Probably the best Mexican food I've had out here,I'm from Arizona originally I know how it's supposed be.
google avatar

Neek C.

Yelp
Didn't know much about this place until a friend talked highly about it. Looked at the menu and they had carne asada fries and I was convinced. The fries were great and a nice size portion. Added a little queso to the fries and I had a great meal. I will be back soon.
google avatar

Amber M.

Yelp
Every time I open up Instagram, I swear it is a picture of yummy looking food from the West Coast taco shop. After months of wanting to try it, I decided one Friday night to order it for delivery. I ordered Chips and Salsa, a Steak taco and a Birria taco. Every time someone posts the Birria taco online, they post it with the dipping sauce "Consome." I'm not going to lie, I was a bit disappointed when I opened my to go box and the dip was not with it. I thought it automatically came with the taco because I could not find it on the menu when I ordered over the delivery app. If you order this taco, make sure you find a way to ask for the dip. I really wanted to try it, but I'm still going to give them five stars because the food was so excellent. I rarely order steak tacos any more because most of the time the steak is overcooked, but this one was done perfectly and has so much flavor. I will definitely be eating here again and next time I want to try the Carne Asada fries. I only didn't order them because I didn't want to be a glutton!
google avatar

Dick W.

Yelp
This is Nashvilles top tier restaurant secret I love the flavors they tingle in my mouth. This place deserves more business it's a secret to Nashville but it's amazing. The service is quick but always amazing. I certainly do love this place. Amazing joint to take ur friends and family. They even have those Mexican cokes

Kelly S.

Yelp
I ordered deliver. The chicken tacos were way too salty but they give you a good amount. We also ordered a carne asada burrito bowl. The asada was gray and tasteless the beans were not done and lacked flavor, rice was also a little Al dente. The elote seemed mediocre at best. I love love love tacos. Giving 4 stars only for portion size
google avatar

Ariel L.

Yelp
When you craving for tacos...usually at a business named West Coast Taco Shop....you'll expect a least something related to a Taco, well at this place managed by Venezuelan people. They're serving Venezuelan tacos...or cheap aldis frozen tacos with frozen guacamole, frozen lettuce. Frozen tomatoes over the fried tacos??? The most disgusting thing was cold cheeses on top!! Which is a Venezuelan thing!! I don't recommend such a aberration and disgusting, untasty dog food! Plus 5.75 and order of tacos plus a drink 10.89! Really? How much cost a cheap cool aid style drink? $4 dollars? Save your money...go to a better place!
google avatar

Myia W.

Yelp
2 Birria taco/cheese and I added a Passion fruit drink, I'ts very expensive for tacos. My total was $13 and some change. If you look at the picture, it's not much food. Drink- $3/ Tacos- $7/ dipping soup- $1/ service fee- .50/ plus taxes. This is my second time here And I think the tacos need salt on the meat.
google avatar

Erika L.

Yelp
I'm a born and raised Cali girl. Rolled tacos were always the go to at most Mexican eateries. Enjoyed the rolled tacos and salsa bar.
google avatar

Tabatha S.

Yelp
I'm not even sure how to capture in writing how incredibly delicious this meal was. I ate here about two months ago and I still have the pics in my camera roll so that I can relive the moment on a bad day. The red tacos (aka birria) is...everything. Is it expensive? A little. Typically more than I'd like to spend at lunch. However, when you dip those tacos into the consome, trust me...the price is no longer an issue. It's so flavorful. It's somehow crispy and juicy and cheesy and all the things in one bite. Trust me, this is a meal you need to experience! Chips and queso were good (but hard to compare to the birria). Salsa bar is also a really nice touch.
google avatar

Courtney D.

Yelp
First time trying.. the birria tacos were delicious. Must try! The place is a little hidden gem. The staff were friendly and provided fast service
