West Side Wok is a small, no-frills sushi and poke spot tucked into a convenient corner of the Upper West Side, just steps from a major subway stop. While it’s not necessarily the kind of place for a long sit-down meal, its location makes it perfect for a quick pickup before heading to one of the many nearby parks.
I tried the spicy poke dish and was genuinely impressed by the freshness of the ingredients. The fish and vegetables tasted like they had been prepped to order, and you can tell the team puts care into the quality of what they serve. That said, the vegetables in the poke were fairly plain—I personally would have enjoyed some pickled or marinated elements to add variety and balance to the bowl. The portion of fish wasn’t overly generous, but they were not shy with the sauces, which added a flavorful kick without overpowering the dish.
Service-wise, they’ve always been reliable and on time with pickup orders. On my visits, they’ve been warm and grateful, especially noticing and appreciating repeat customers—which is rare and always a nice touch in a busy city.
Overall, West Side Wok is a solid neighborhood option when you’re craving fresh poke or sushi on the go. It’s convenient, friendly, and consistent—a dependable spot for a casual meal, especially if you’re planning to enjoy it outdoors.
