West Sixth Brewing

I really love this spot. I love their flights and trying their wide variety of beers. I really like their sour, IPAs, and their Amber. I’m not a huge stout-lover, but I really liked what I tried. They even cycle in seasonal drinks too! I really liked the apple cider bourbon slushy they had, too, which was a pleasant surprise that I didn’t see coming!! They have a lot of different areas to sit so it’s not super crowded with tons of people standing and blocking walkways, which was also nice! I had a delicious burger from the restaurant next door (they bring food over to the brewery) and it had great beer cheese! They also had LOTS of power outlets, so I was able to get work done on my laptop! The employees were also fun to talk to and very kind. All around, it was a nice place to visit!

On a road trip, and a stop in Lexington allowed us to happen upon this little jewel. If you’re in the area and like craft breweries, you owe it to yourself to check this one out. Great beers and the absolute best hospitality, starring the fabulous Mary, tending bar and suggesting the tastiest “pick any five” flight. Trust me, trust her with this weighty decision. If you’re hungry, don’t leave without trying something off the menu at their neighbor, Smithtown Seafood.

West 6 is a super favorite of the Old Guys Pub Crawl. We've have crawled here more than any other bar/pub from the 80-90 places we've been over the past two years. We bring first time guests to West 6. I don't mention food much but the seafood here is one of our top choice places.

My favorite place to go in Lexington and they make my favorite IPA! Make sure you grab some food from Smithtown Seafood and don't forget the oysters! Make sure you follow them on social media too and look out for special events and special menu items. I went to their Lexington location for their super bowl bash and their derby party and had a great time for both.

I've been here several times now and have always had a great experience. There's outdoor seating for when the weather is nice, plenty of seating for larger groups, and lots of interesting and tasty beers on tap. I also appreciate that they offer Athletic non-alcoholic beer as well. With friendly staff and a great atmosphere, this has become one of my favorite spots in Lexington.

Awesome service and fantastic selection of beer. Seriously, had a very eclectic selection to include a Tripel (which I had), a Donut 🍩 stout (which I also had), and a lager IPA, which was super tasty. Went to Mass around the corner and then grabbed a beer (as any good Catholic will haha). Overall, great location, beers, and beer tenders.

Hendrick was our beertender today at this fantastic brewery. This is a must visit just for variety of beers. My friend Tim had the Pay it Forward Porter and raved about the complex and beautiful upfront flavor and gentle finish. I had a flight of IPAs and the worst one was terrific. The other part of the recommendation is the inland seafood restaurant next door.

I left here feeling like a million bucks!! Great hops and food! Service was very hospitality, even though I got a few side-eyes, at first. Sheesh! People, can we really just accept folks for who they are and not the color of their skin. I do, and I thank you for the same respect. I sat outside to catch a breeze and the ambiance was better there. My time there got better and I actually continued to buy their local beer, at the liquor store, for the rest of my time in town. It was reliable! lol

I just had my first experience in the private bourbon room at West Sixth! What a cool event space and a great way to enjoy this unique venue with a group. They allowed outside food to be brought in and the private bar was awesome and stocked with bourbon as well as beer and wine. We frequent the brewery because it's a great community space and so dog friendly - but it's good to know that there is a cool place for special events here as well!

Venue is excellent. Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. Rental space available for events. Bartenders deliver the best customer service. We frequent all West Sixth locations but this was our first visit to the original location. Smithtown food available adjacent for good eats. A great place with good vibes. Recommendations are West Coal Lager, All Tricks No Treats (seasonal), Black IPA if you like IPA, standard "go to" is Octoberfest, Cerveza, and Sixer. If we were local I would visit frequently.

Really enjoyed their craft beer when I see it the stores. It was nice to visit the actual brewery in Lexington. Great selection of craft beers. Plenty of space to hang out with the friends and family. They provide great service to the kids when they come in. Loved the food trucks they provide. Look forward to our next visit to the brewery. Highly recommended.

Great little brewery with a nice selection of beers and a cider. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. We didn't like our first order and the bartender immediately took them back, patiently giving us samples to taste. Bonus: Attached to Smithtown Seafood. (Read separate review)

We weee here today for leap year celebration. They had bunnies on display for adoption from the Humane Society. We bought buy 2 six packs get two free. We saved $24.00 today for the discount special. We like a cider beer here also in a orange can.

Great place at the end of Jefferson Street and you can eat food from Smithtown Seafood. They make some of my favorite IPAs. There is always a good crowd here. Highly recommend.

My husband and I took the tour with 6 other people. Olivia was our tour guide and she was amazing! She knew everything there was to know about the brewery. The beer was amazing! Well worth the extremely inexpensive price. I would 10/10 recommend this tour to anyone!

Wonderful brewery with a very diverse offering of brews, ciders and even a cocktail! We ended up at West Sixth sort of by accident, so glad we did! Emily was great, super friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Hubby and I each did a self pick tasting so we could try all the different categories! The 1906 Lager was both of our favorites so a six pack had to come home with us! The one I'd totally have again if I was sitting at the bar right now would be the Oyster one! Can't remember the whole name of it, I think it had "cowboy" in the name, but I do remember Oyster! It came with hot sauce!! The hot sauce was the clincher, totally changed the flavor and made it irresistibly savory with a wonderful back flavor!!

Hubby wanted to try the beer flight and it didn't disappoint! Always in the lookout for dog friendly restaurants since we have our fur baby with us. Location is a plus since they share the dining area with Smithtown Seafood, love the shaded patio with huge ceiling fans!

Probably the best atmosphere here out of all the breweries in Lexington. We were fortunate enough to be here during the kickoff of Craft Beer week and the Brewgrass Trail event. The live music was great, as is their overall setup with an indoor/outdoor feel. The IPA's were tasty and my wife enjoyed the Mexican Lager. Country Western vol 10 & Hopstatic were my faves.

So many great beers here!! Staff is realk friendly and helpful. talked to Sean and Henry about places to eat downtown. excellent choices. Went there three times last week. There's lots of room to move around. So, great experience , nonetheless. My first yelp.

We went to West Sixth Brewing on Friday night and had an awesome time. We're from out of town and can see why it is a Lexington staple. The vibes are really cool and the people are super nice. Bartenders helped with making beer selections. The parking wasn't too bad despite it being pretty busy. We were able to find a table for 4. The beers were super good and had a nice variety with light beers to IPAs.

Cool spot to grab a drink and watch some sports on TV. They have a good selection of items on tap. For those that do not want beer, they also have some other options available. I tried the house made Paloma, and was pleased with it.

My friend and I are visiting Lexington for the week and this was our first stop before our dinner reservation. We came on a rainy Monday afternoon and there were a good amount of folks there. I'm more of a cocktail person, but I like a good beer every now and again. This place had several! I made my own flight of 5 beers including Magic Beans Coffee Stout, Rosemont Wit, Strawberry Kolsch, Ginger Lemon Elixir and the West Sixth IPA. I'm not a huge IPA person, so that was my least favorite, but it was still a good beer. My favorite, by far, was definitely the Rosemont. It was light and a bit citrusy. The Strawberry Kolsch was next - light strawberry flavor. The coffee stout was rich without being bitter. I ordered some shrimp from the restaurant next door and had it delivered to me at the bar. Crispy and delicious! The only "negative" thing I can say about this place is that the one woman on staff had to manage the whole bar for most of the time we were there, which looked hard. The bar is really big and there were two rooms of folks all wanting to order from her. She was very professional and worked fast. I just felt bad for her. Definitely glad that my friend and I chose this place to come to for an afternoon flight. I would definitely recommend it! (Bonus is that they had the Eurocup on. Woohoo!)

West 6th is an amazing place- the beer is delicious, the setting is welcoming and the staff are super friendly. Youve got to try the Fuzzy Field IPA! one of the best hazy IPAs I've ever had! It's awesome, and one of their flagship beers.

The Barrel Room is an awesome rental space! I used it in June 2022 for a welcome reception for out-of-town guests the night before my wedding. The rental coordinator and bartender were both awesome to work with and everyone had a good time. The alcohol variety was great for our group and all the tables were set up ahead of time. They kept me posted on reaching our drink minimum so we could make sure we got our money's worth W6 is one of my favorite Lexington spots from my time at Transy, so it was a perfect location for us to revisit!

Casual laid back neighborhood feeling place, I got the sunshade wheat. It was a nice lite summer beer. They work well with the fish market next door. I got the buffalo catfish bites, they were amazing.

Good selection of beers and some ciders/sours. Some of the staff is more friendly than others. We knew it wasn't there fault but the fish smell from the store next door was a tad overpowering at times. However, you get used to it as you drink more LOL

When you go to West Sixth for a beer or Smithtown for Ouita's delicious fish n chips, do you know the origins of the building. Known as The Bread Box, it was built in 1890. For nearly one hundred years, it was home to bread manufacturers, hence the name. In 2011, the building was transformed into what you see today, a great spot for food and drink. 18

Great place, great staff, great craft beer. We live in NJ, but our daughter went to college at UK. We love this bar and its many craft beers. Now that she's graduated, we're hoping to find someplace in the northeast to guy their delicious beers. Any help would be appreciated.

I had shoulder surgery 2 weeks ago which is one of the most painful recovery of ortho surgeries. But I was tired of being stuck at home. It was a beautiful day so talked my hubby to day trip to Lexington. Not usually a beer fan but thought it would make me feel better. Yep .. had a beer and a flight .. not driving so it's all good. Beer was cold when we got it but room was open air so warmer fast. It was nice finish to fun day trip. Ordered seafood at adjoined restaurant. We grabbed last table. Since I am really NOT a beer fan yet I had fun ... I'd say I'd recommend it!

I swear I thought I wrote a review before for West Sixth. I went there this past week and I guess it was the 3rd of 4th time. I try to stop there every time I have an overnight stay in Lexington. When I first started drinking IPA it was always West Sixth's. There are so many different craft breweries now so I do switch it up, but I owe my love of IPA and extra lbs to West Sixth. The brewery itself is large. I've never participated in any fun or tours there. I just sit at the bar and drink which is plenty for me. I did notice two visits ago that they no longer sell growlers, but you can bring one to fill if you like. They do sell crowlers and bottles though.

Love the place until I realized they charge $13 for a CAN of wine. Please post your prices yall. That's ridiculous if someone wants to mix it up from beer and wouldn't dare imagine a can of wine to cost 2x as much as your own craft beer product.

One of Lexington's first craft breweries and my personal favorite! West 6th is located at the end of Jefferson St. at 6th St., an area that has seen a tremendous revival in recent years and is a must visit area for locals and visitors alike! Located in The Bread Box, a former Rainbo Bakery, that dates back to the late 1800's. This building has brought together not only an award winning brewery, but Smithtown Seafood, Food Chain (an aquaponic farm supplying Smithtown with seafood and greens) an art gallery, and The Broke Spoke bike shop, are just some of the tenants in this fabulous historic redevelopment. Tours are available for the brewery and Food Chain if you want a great education on brewing and a sustainable method of farming. Ahh, now to the beer! West 6th brews some of Kentucky's best beers including many IPA's (try the flagship IPA and the Hopstatic), a great amber, and, the Pennyrile Pale ale are my favorites. You a stout person or just looking for a kick in the ass? Try the Snakes series of stouts, just make sure your DD is lined up or you have enough battery life to summon Uber upon your departure. Also there a lots of seasonals and collaborations to try depending on when you visit. Got that friend tagging along that will bitch about the lack of Mich Ultra? Order them a Cerveza or a glass of wine. Not only are the beers great, so is the staff. Many of the bartenders and other staff has been around for years, which is impressive in the service industry! If you are a novice beer drinker or looking for that beer that suits your palate, just ask the knowledgeable folks and they will steer you in the right direction! Samples are also available. Need some food to soak up the beer? Order from the adjoining Smithtown Seafood (owned by local celebrity chef Ouita Michel) you will find great seafood, sandwiches, and salads that will fill up that beer belly so you can order more beer! Check them out! You can also find West 6th in Louisville in the NULU area as well as the West 6th Farm in Frankfort. As the owners say, they aren't looking to be the biggest craft brewery in Kentucky, just the best. I think they are right on target!

The bartenders were knowledgeable about their selections and very helpful. I ordered a kentucky mule slushee first because I don't like beer. They helped me choose a second drink and let me try a few things. I settled on a cherry sour. Delicious for a non beer drinker!! My husband enjoyed their different IPAs. They also put the World Cup on for us!

Went here during lunch time, and it was pretty crowded, but there was plenty of parking. I wanted to try the magic beans coffee stout and the nice bartender gave me a sample. It was fantastic and was perfect for a Saturday afternoon treat! Chocolate character with roasted coffee beans! My husband got the cocoa Porter, which is good too. A lot of customers were ordering food from the restaurant next door, but we didn't have a lot of time so just had our beers and got a six pack to go. The food did look good though. Great place to visit again! And I found a shirt that I want to buy!

I've been to W6 many times but just haven't reviewed them. My experience is pretty much always the same...great! The bartenders always friendly and, even though it can get very busy, never rush you into a choice or shy away from a friendly conversation. They are one of the only breweries in town that serve only their own beer. That is never a problem because there is frequently something new to try or an old favorite. They have the best barrel program in town so if you are into sours or other barreled beers you are in luck! Their special events are always well organized and fun. If you have time and they have tours scheduled, jump in on one. It is interesting to hear about the brewery and all the cool stuff that goes on in the breadbox!

Nice gem I stumbled upon while visiting Lexington. Great beer, atmosphere and service. Shout out to Chris the bartender for keeping me company while I enjoyed my brew and the catfish sandwich from the connecting restaurant. I highly recommend stopping by while in Lexington.

Delicious beer! Large space with many types of beer. They have a restaurant attached but we did not eat anything. We did purchase a great t-shirt and some beer to bring home to share with friends.

I'm a huge fan of West Sixth Brewing! My fiancé and a friend decided to visit for a few beers and food. Before you go, be aware that you'll have to make a reservation either before you get there or at the host stand outside. Another thing to be aware of is that you must wear your mask inside and at the table when your server is there. First, I LOVED the food here. Smithtown Seafood is sort of apart of West Sixth so you can order when you're here. I always get the fried fish combo. It comes with a sizeable piece of fish, fries, hush puppies and coleslaw. All were very delicious! I'm not a huge beer person, but I actually enjoyed the beer I had here. I tried the Eureka! It's an IPA. Honestly, I LOVED it. Definitely try it when you visit. The parking is fairly easy. You can either use the parking lot behind the building or park along the street. The staff is awesome! All are always so friendly and knowledgeable about all menu items.

Great place to just hang...with great selection of extremely good beer and a nice vibe in a Lexington neighborhood. Food from separate vendor was ok. Overpriced for what we got. 4 bucks for a fish taco with 1 piece of 1" square fish. Drink the beer!

Nice location next to a park! There are lots of seats, inside and outside. Went here on a random Tuesday night and discovered the walk/run club that meets on Tuesday. After 5 visits you get a free shirt. I really like their Cocoa Porter beer. It is similar to a stout but not as heavy. I have also their strawberry kolsch. It is not too sweet but has a nice light flavor. Surprisingly, they have a Sangria slush that is really good! If you go order from Smithtown Seafood! They have a kitchen in the brewery. The Singapore shrimp wrap ($12.99) was very good and came with fries. I choose fee blackened shrimp. They were cooked perfectly! I also tried out the hush puppies ($2.99 for 4) and ate more then I wanted because they were yummy!

When planning out our day trip to Lexington, we had a plethora of options when it came to selecting which couple of breweries we would visit. Lexington is all but drowning in local brews! But...like...a happy drowning. The fella was pretty intent on making West Sixth one of our stops. I am totally game! It helped also that we were able to walk there from area where we had lunch near the Mary Todd Lincoln House. Don't be fooled when I say this....it is a bit of a hike from there, but we routinely walk long distances to get places and the day was gorgeous! West Sixth is located in the corner of a building with at least a couple quick service restaurants. Both are accessible from the brewery/tasting room/bar and it appears as though they both deliver the food to your table from next door. One of the restaurants is a seafood place, and if you can't stand the smell of fish, you might not enjoy your visit to West Sixth. It certainly permeates. We each opted for a flight. You can get either their Flagship Five or Pick Your Own Four for $8. We both wanted to try some of the season options, so we went with the four sample option. I chose 2 that I KNEW I would like and 2 that were DEFINITELY outside my comfort zone. And that is about how my enjoyment of them fell. You order at the bar, they place your selections in order on a round tray and label a coaster with your selections. What I got, from light to dark: Berlinerweisse: light and tart. My second favorite of my selections. Thai Trail: basil sour. My absolute favorite! I knew I was going to like it, because sours are my jam! But it wasn't as harsh as some other sours and the basil is an awesome addition! I even ended up purchasing a crowler of this to bring home with me. I can't wait to crack it open! Maibock: a little more bitter than I prefer, but my third favorite of the visit. Coffee stout: it was reeeeaally heavy on the coffee. It was just a little too much for me and my taste buds. We enjoyed our visit, for sure! And I like some of their offerings. If you are in Lexington, you should certainly consider stopping by!

Very nice brewery with a fairly large collection of beers and accompanying beer styles. Service is quick and efficient - you get the feeling if you're a regular people will take time to get to know you and remember your name. One small quibble on behalf of my fellow ladies: Please please please install purse hooks below the bar. Please and thank you. A big surprise for these Texans was how good their "Cerveza" brew was. Well done, y'all. Well done.

We stopped in on a Saturday morning and enjoyed lights of all types of beer. The ports and stouts were awesome. The ladies behind the bar rocked and were so knowledgeable.

We took the tour today, and it was unbelievably detailed from start to finish. Our most excellent tour guide was Chris (Keanu Reaves) from Oklahoma. Also, the tour is free, but their website encourages people to leave a tip. Honestly, I was surprised when others didn't, because again, it's free, plus you get the opportunity to taste samples, and you get a free glass. So, consider tipping, the price you would have paid for the tour. At that, the only distillery that doesn't charge for tours is Budweiser and Buffalo Trace. Next, they have plenty of parking in the lot in back of their establishment, as well as ample street parking. Just be cautious about the yellow curbs when parking on the street. Finally, this brewery supports Lexington's communities, and not only financially but with its personnel too. Plus, more importantly, they hire Lexingtonians. So, like Stallone's Rocky Balboa would say, "Support the Home team! Home team!"

Beer is great. We've had issues in the past with it being a bit warm, but today was good and cold. Cerveza is hard to beat. The bartenders are pretty lackadaisical, will pass you up several times without acknowledging you waiting to order (it was not busy and there were no less than three behind the bar). The tables are absolutely filthy. We cleaned our own, and watched many people do the same. No one comes around to clear glasses, they just pile up on the tables. This would be almost understandable if the place was popping- but it definitely was not.

We were anxious to try some of Kentucky's brews and West 6 did not disappoint! We ordered a flight of 4...an IPA, Kentucky Brown, a porter, and the Christmas Ale. The porter was our least favorite but only because we liked the others so much. We ended up taking home a 6 pack of the Christmas Ale. They serve a fewsmall snacks but share a space with an amazing restaurant that I highly recommend!

I visited four breweries in Lexington, and West Sixth was far and away my favorite! They have a nice lounge area, great looking merch, board games, and of course, delicious beers. The ones I sampled were the Sixfold VI (wild sour with cherries), Tropical Sour with guava and passionfruit, Valencia Berlinerweisse, and the Low Beam NEIPA. The Berlinerweisse was just about perfect in every way. A real punch of orange in every sip. Everything else was also really well made and balanced. You could tell that a lot of care was put into the brewing process. You can also look in through the windows on your way to the bathroom to see all the stills and brewing supplies in the back. They have quite an operation here! When you order, they also give you a token, which you can donate to charity or use to get a discount off some merch. I left with one of my new favorite t-shirts!

Coming from L/ville for the evening and I really wanted to stop by to visit the place after being a fan of their beer for quite some time. The place didn't disappoint. We sat at the bar on a Friday night and the bartenders were so inviting. I started out with the Hop Static IPA ($5.50) and it was right down my alley. Of course I had to enjoy the hometown favorite West 6th IPA ($5) to close out my experience. Next time I'm in town.....I'll be back.

West Sixth was probably my favorite Brewery while in Lexington. I visited their Main Brewery and Taproom location during my trip but they also have a separate Taproom location here and a 120 Acre Farm Facility in Frankfort that looks pretty damn amazing. After a terrible experience at Mirror Twin, these guys and gals turned my day around. Thanks again Jess and crew! The taproom is warm and inviting - love the lighting level - just right! It has kind of a downtown neighborhood bar vibe to it. I chose the You Pick 4 Flight and tried : Pennyrile Pale, West Sixth IPA, Seventh Fiddle IPA and Low Beam NE IPA. All of them were solid but the Pennyrile stood out as being totally crushable/refreshing and the Low Beam was nicely balanced, light and almost came across as a session IPA. I love that when you get a flight you get a token for a dollar off beer/merchandise or you can choose to donate it to the cause they're currently colleting for (it rotates). Thanks for making me feel so welcome!!
