NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"This West 72nd Street adress has been home to bars and taverns—most notably Donohue’s Pub and PD O’Hurley’s—since the building went up in the 19th century. After sitting vacant for 10 years, Westland Roe is filling those beer-soaked shoes. They’ll have pub grub as well—including $35 steak frites, and shepherd’s pie. " - will hartman

Update... Just tried the food here tonight, every dish we had was amazing. The lamb burgers in particular were out of this world. We are all thankful to have this restaurant re-opened in the neighborhood!... We used to dine at the former restaurant in this UWS location all of the time. The food and atmosphere were always outstanding. The previous restaurant closed, and the space had sat empty now for more than 5 years. We really missed this neighborhood spot, and much to our delight, we walked by this establishment the other night and noticed a new restaurant, Westland Roe, has been re-opened in the space. The menu looks great, and we absolutely cannot wait to try it out here!

So good to see this place with some life in it after so many years without anything there! Warm, inviting, with plenty to choose from with regards to food and drink. Service is earnest and friendly, Linda and Ruby, along with BB and Seamus are all quite kind and welcoming. Great place to grab a drink after you’ve explored Central Park or Riverside park. Also an excellent place to watch the Premier League!!!

Awesome to see this location open after it being boarded up for so long. Jamie the bartender is fabulous and love his energy. He was welcoming and was checking on everyone frequently to ensure everyone was satisfied. Happy Hour (see pic) is quite good. Haven't tried the food yet but will absolutely return! Great vibe and super clean!

Google
Awesome new bar and gastropub on the UWS, apparently only 3months old since it's refurb. Went on a Saturday night- food is excellent, huge selection of beers on tap, sports screens, and upbeat music, a very welcomed addition to the UWS! We will be back.

Google
Absolutely excellent local bar made even better by their wonderful bartenders. Jamie, Nick, and Tom all deserve serious accolades for their attention to detail and amazing hospitality. Whether meeting friends, colleagues, a date, or renting a space for an event, you will be happy with the results. By far my favorite community watering hole on the UWS.

Google
Westland Roe’s location was shuttered for about 10 years -- until late 2024. Great that Westland Roe is now occupying the space. It has a highly attractive and large bar area. Very friendly bar staff. Good and long happy hour with large crowds. Great selection of booze. Very near the Beacon Theater and 72nd St. subways.

Hey, Hi

Google
Cute new place in the neighborhood. We all flocked to check it out and while it was neat and clean and shiny, it was so loud we couldn’t hear each other. For reference, It was a Saturday night, and Our group was aged 25-35..so not old! Place was only 25% full so the music reverberated the open spaces. It was insane. Staff was young but nice enough, not necessarily attentive. We had to ask for basics like water, menus. Didn’t eat but hear the food is good. Menu is varied and something for everyone. We ended up leaving to go to the local staple where we could mingle, eat and talk. Will give it another try since they’re right in the area.

Yelp
Quite simply a breath of fresh air but a few steps away from the West 72nd St 1, 2, 3 subway station, Gray's Papaya & intersection of Broadway & Amsterdam (smell that?). Suggestion from a lifelong resident of West 72nd St aka Monopoly cheat code: just "Advance to GO" aka Westland Roe & create memories in the company of others or the attentive, well-trained & always-friendly, ever-engaging staff & then make all other decisions. Cheers!

Yelp
Popped in before seeing a movie and this spot rocks. Close to Lincoln Center and AMC Lincoln Square. They have a great happy hour deal and friendly bartenders. Their regulars seem to love them. The HH marg was good, and the buffalo cauliflower was a perfect snack. I came in and sat right at the bar. Had a lovely time. Will be back for more drinks and snacks!

Yelp
Dropped in here with friends prior to seeing a show at the Beacon. I used to patronize a really good Turkish restaurant on the street, which unfortunately closed. Westland is a fairly typical pub with assorted drink and food options. Very good selection of beers. Burgers were excellent and the fries crisp with some skin. Service was a bit spotty. Had to ask for menus and then had to ask again in order to get food menus. Drinks are on one menu and food is on another. Prices are moderate. Location is perfect if you're looking for drinks or a bite for a concert at the Beacon theater.

Yelp
With a new spot in the neighborhood, really wished I had better things to say. Positive: drinks were good. Atmosphere was good. Negatives: service. Completely awful. Didn't even have water for about 45 minutes. Food - - only thing I ordered was the dumplings, awful. The bartender recommended them to me and they were so bad I only had one. Salty and overcooked. Recommendations: if you want to go for casual drinks (again this is just based on the bartender I had), it's good if you have patience - but she made good drinks. Based on food I had, would not recommend the food but willing to take it another try

Yelp
Clean place and great to watch a game if you want chill vibes. The wings were well flavored and had a decent amount of meat on them

Yelp
Very nice staff but very small portions for the pricing. Cool vibes but not sure I'd come back

Yelp
You'll appreciate the food. This place has atmosphere down to a science. The dishes I received had great taste. Learning customer preferences shows you care. In summary, service was good and I want to come back.

Yelp
Wanted to grays papaya -- sure. Have some words why they closed ... Food was awful, drinks were fine. Service was great. But geeeez the food is bag here

Yelp
Slow service: Our food took over an HOUR to come out. After 40 min I asked the server to check in the kitchen, otherwise didn't receive any updates. There was only one main server and a bartender. So service was slow all around. Food: When it was finally served, it was pretty good. We were there around 10:30am on a Saturday and was a bit disappointed there's no brunch menu, just one menu. So we ordered bar food apps - fries, onion rings, pigs in a blanket, mini tacos- and salads. My caesar salad was heavy on the dressing but otherwise okay. Warning there is a credit card surcharge. Given all the dishes and drinks were either standard or slightly pricey (standard fries priced at $9), I'm surprised there's another charge for just paying with credit card... for a group like ours who is paying with all cash? If I'm being honest I would rate lower, but want to extend some grace because it's a new business. I hope they take this feedback into account.

Yelp
Another great addition to the UWS. This space has been vacant forever so I am thrilled to see it come to life with such a fun, lively, and attractive pub. The beau and I popped in on a Saturday night and got a table in the back. The bar was full of patrons clearly enjoying the highly anticipated addition. Decent cocktails at a decent price and the food was pretty darn good. The generous piece of fish (and chips) was served piping hot with pretty standard fries. The fish was tasty and succulent. While the burger isn't the best I've ever had, it's perfectly respectable. Love that you can sub onion rings for the fries too! All of the servers are friendly and help each other out. Already looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
Cute after work bar with a great happy hour deal. Without the HH pricing, expect to pay $18+ per cocktail. Highly recommend getting a side of their delicious fries

Yelp
Newly opened bar/restaurant. Been here a few times for only drinks which were good. The interior is beautifully done. The service at both the bar and seating is friendly. Had the fried chicken sandwich most recently and unfortunately it was a little bland and the chicken was chewy. Will definitely come back and try other menu items.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this new spot in the neighborhood! Ambience is nice, well-lit, inviting, not too loud. Service was friendly and wonderful. Happy hour until 7 pm is generous and inviting after work! Food felt like they were still finding their stride, a little overpriced and not anything memorable. Still, excited to have this new spot, will be back!!

Yelp
This bad has really great food. I went to place a take out order because I don't typically like how loud bars are (and this is no different) and I have no regrets! The staff were friendly and took the time to take our order, then our food was out relatively quick. I ordered one of their burgers and it was massive! Definitely filled me up and was tasty, too!

Yelp
Came here with friends and kids on a recent. Is it to New York. Food drinks and service all great and made for a memorable evening. Appetizers were great as well in a casual laid back environment.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick bite with a friend, the ambiance inside is inviting and even a bit romantic if you come at the right time of night! The service was friendly (maybe a bit understaffed but who isn't these days) to my friend and I with our requests and adjustments to our good. The menu has a wide variety to accommodate most groups, I had a veggie burger and I've gotta say the bun was great! They did tell us the veggie burger and a lot of the dishes are homemade, I love to see it. The fries weren't the most satisfying for me (I think because they are hand cut and I love a gourmet crispy fry or a crunchy sweet potato fry). There are a LOT of TV's across the joint, so probably a great place to watch sports too.

Yelp
Great bar and nice to see this space finally occupied. I think it was vacant for 7+ years after Paul Hurley closed his bar. Very nice open space and good decor. Very friendly and welcoming bartender. They play good music. I haven't tried the food yet but the menu looks very reasonably priced.

Yelp
Amazing place, with amazing home cooked food at very reasonable prices. Generous drinks menu with lots to choose from. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Music is also very good with a nice atmosphere. Great new up and coming place. The place to be in NYC.

Yelp
Great addition to the UWS. Had a holiday party there last week for 30 people. Food and service were both excellent. We ate from the full menu and they were very efficient. Staff are lovely and friendly. I look forward to returning. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great new bar in an area that has few bar options. Lively crowd, good food, nice selection of drinks. Service is excellent.

Yelp
Been twice now and Niamh and Seamus each took great care of us, lovely a pint of Guinness as you'll get in the city, can't wait to go back now that their kitchen is open! Instant local go-to and so close off the 72nd St. 1

David D.

Yelp
Such a fun place. Finally a real Irish pub in the UWS. Food is great and atmosphere is better. Thank you for joining our hood.

Yelp
We were greeted as soon as we walked in. Fun atmosphere. Had the vegan flatbread and my date had a burger with a pint. Everything was delicious. We will be back!

Yelp
Met a dear friend today for lunch at Westland Roe. Had a great pint of Guinness with my Shepherd's pie. Awesome server. Look forward to going back.

Yelp
Great new restaurant. Exciting new addition. Had my Run Club holiday party there last night. The service was amazing considering we had 100 people. Only had the sliders and egg rolls type things. Both were good. Highly highly recommend visit and trying them out. Support local great businesses.
