"For more than a decade, this market was known throughout the area for its “Wall of Beer,” where customers could browse from hundreds of cans of local and exotic brews. In 2009 it opened its outdoor beer garden, where customers can sip from a rotating selection of beers on tap, munch on bar classics, and listen to live music." - Kalina Newman

"This is a neighborhood beer garden with serious chill. There’s rarely a line to get in, and there are six draft lines to choose from. It’s open seven days a week starting at 11:30 a.m. (10 a.m. on Sundays) with a rotating beer list that includes Hofbräu Original and an Angry, Angry Alice IPA from Rocket Frog Brewing Company in Sterling, Virginia. — G.H." - Travis Mitchell

Went here this past Sunday for some drinks and lunch. It wasn’t crowded at all and plenty of places to sit outside and inside. The beer menu was ok, very heavy on stouts and IPAs and not enough lighter beers like pilsners, lagers, etc. I ordered the “poutine” and was disappointed it wasn’t actual poutine with the broken up cheese curds like you’d find in Canada. It was ok for what it was. I will say the staff is extremely friendly which is always nice for a welcoming atmosphere.

Google
LOVE IT! Great vibes, beer, and service! We love how low key it is. Great food choices and super friendly people. On top of that, they have the market, with an amazing selection of craft beer and other items if you want to shop. All at a great price :)

Google
We got burgers and ate them in the outdoor seating area. The burgers were some of the best we’ve tried in Arlington. You can tell it’s quality meat! Also it was so fun to have string lights and live music. We will come back for sure! They were a little short staffed when we visited, but our food was still pretty quick!

Google
In general, everyone is friendly at the market. Nice live music and family friendly vibe. For the restaurant only: Really gross! None of the cooks are wearing gloves and frequently touching their face/mouth (See Photo, more examples I didn’t post). I threw away my food. You got to do better!

Google
Westover Beer Garden is a charming neighborhood spot that gives families a nice place to enjoy some beer and pub food. My only issue is their prices. $10 for their cheapest beer served in a plastic cup at happy hour times is pretty steep. $10 for a kids menu grilled cheese is borderline criminal.

Alice’s Wonderland

Google
Great place, incredible selection of beers. Also have variety of wines and hard seltzers. Prices in the market are kind of high but on par with the area. Good enough eats selection and a nice little outside area setup perfect for taking a break after a stroll in the neighborhood. Definitely worth a stop to check out and relax.

Google
The food and beer selection are top tier. Service is 5 star and not to be found anywhere else!!!! Not to mention the mixed gender bathrooms - you can go when you need to without waiting for the previous party. The people working here are fabulous and you will always get perfect service!

Google
A charming beer cafe in an absolutely charming neighborhood. Had a few beers from the tap and were absolutely delightful! I would definitely recommend the stout, the cider is good too but a bit fruity if that is not to your taste. The inside of the cafe is pretty and cozy but I only sat in the open air space which is very nice and comfortable, even if you are in larger groups. There's a kitchen as well for food but I didn't have any. Will go back a few times, loved the vibe of the place.

Yelp
Nice neighborhood place. Will be great when they re-open the beer garden outside patio they are renovating. No liquor. Only beer and wine. Interesting chatty regulars. Like Timber in Petworth (DC) the bartender tends to keep the large screen TV on movies you may not have seen but that you kind of wanted to watch some day.

Rob K.

Yelp
Effectively simple and fast setup - order food and beer inside and brought out to your table. The food is delicious - can recommend the burger and BLT.

Yelp
Lack of cleanliness in the kitchen. While I was waiting for takeout, I had observed the cooks not using gloves or washing their hands. They frequently touched their face/mouth while handling food. Really poor hygiene etiquette-I trashed the food after they handed it over and only ate the bag of chips included in the meal.

Pipper W.

Yelp
Great find. Had the apricot wheat beer and fried chicken sandwich. Great atmosphere and live music

Su T.

Yelp
Most new restaurants these days are so boring, they all have the same food, same music, same appearance, while pretending to be more than what they are. NOT this place! Absolutely no pretense here! We always sit inside, love the cozy space with great music. Their small menu seems to have the staff's own favorites, great comfort food. And the bartenders take really good care of everyone, even when they are so busy.

Marissa D.

Yelp
I loved this place! If you've never been to this part of Arlington, I highly recommend this stretch of businesses. It's quaint and laid back--kind of reminds me of Del Ray. This particular business is really cool because it's part grocery store, part pub, part beer garden! I can only really speak to the beer garden, as that's where I spent the most time. There are quaint beer garden lights, picnic tables, and trees/flowers giving it a very outdoorsy oasis vibe. There's plenty of shade, and I'd definitely call it baby friendly. I went for lunch on a weekday and they were pumping 2010s indie jams. Many of the clientele were older folks, but I've heard that it's a younger/family crowd at night. We grabbed some shandies (yum) and lunch. My husband got a hot dog and fries (I stole some and they were good!) and I got an Italian sub (very yummy!) They have a ton of German food, too--I'll try the bratwurst next time!

Madison B.

Yelp
I have driven by Westover tons of times and always wanted to stop in. A few Fridays back I went with friends and enjoyed great live music out on their back patio. This place can fill up on really any night of the week if it's nice out. The beer selection was great, outside they have a few on tap and inside there's a ton of options. All 6 of us decided to get the chicken caesar wrap and it did not disappoint. I will definitely be returning here in the future for a fun Friday night!

Hallie M.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot for a casual dinner and drinks! The patio was great, perfect for a multigenerational meal that included a toddler. We all liked our beers (although the peach sour I got was SOUR! My first thought was that is tasted like a Warhead). The menu was pretty basic but that's not necessarily a bad thing, not everywhere has to be a foodie paradise. I'm glad we checked it out!

Peter K.

Yelp
It's great to have live music back to the garden. However unlike many other restaurants that survived these past two years there are NO happy hour beer specials. There are NO food specials (before the pandemic burger night and taco tuesdays were awesome) But more insulting are the prices. $10, $11 for an ipa (6%, 7%) Pretzel bites for $10 Ridiculous. $12 for a hot dog! This isn't Nats ballpark. As much as I thoroughly enjoy the garden paying $20 - $22 for two brews. Forget that noise

Doug S.

Yelp
Quality ingredients are the Strong Point of this neighborhood gem of a Bistro. Service is an afterthought and seems more like it's a floating Friend of a Friends helping out situation. That said take your time and you may learn things on subjects that run the full multitude of the human experience. Free flowing thoughts and good conversation.

Yelp
Let me preface this with two facts: 1. This is the absolute worst place that I can think of in the area for a pregnant woman who loves craft beer. 2. I am said pregnant woman, so while I cannot comment on the taste of any beer, I can comment on variety, food, and atmosphere. My husband and I met three friends here on a Sunday afternoon. It was really nice outside and they had the Steelers game on (yay-since T&H closed, I had no idea where to go but now I do), so we grabbed a picnic table. You order inside if the outdoor bar is not set up. It can be really aggressive inside and you have to be assertive and insert yourself in line. Also, to save yourself lots of attitude from the bartenders, know everything you want (food and drink) before getting close to order. They were out of the only cider on tap when we were there, but they also have wine if that is more your speed. As for the beer, think craft-centric and unique brews and there seems to be quite a few from VA on tap at any time. The food menu is really good too! We split a small poutine which was huge, not overly salty, and delicious! Friends had 2 varieties of wings-Mango habanero and Jamaican jerk. Jamaican jerk, a dry rub, were my favorite but both were good. One friend ordered a burger and really enjoyed it! She said Mondays are 1/2 off burgers and their game burgers are on point! The atmosphere is super casual and there were LOTS of kids during my visit. In fact, I mentioned to my husband, besides the kiddos, I think he and I were the youngest in the crowd! I would definitely return once I can imbibe again (7 or less weeks wahoooo!).

Steven G.

Yelp
Good beer selection. However, the owner refused to pay an Electrician friend after he put in several days of work. For that reason, I no longer go there.

Catherine M.

Yelp
I have walked past this place many times but on a warm January Sunday, I started off the new year with a cider and some food here. They have some tvs outside and inside at the small bar. The place was half full but the food didn't take long to come out. We got the bulgogi plate and tacos and I will say, the quality of the meat shocked me- it was awesome. The bulgogi was perfectly cooked, flavorful and tender. We also got some chicken tenders and fries and the chicken tenders were well cooked. They have beer, wine, and mimosas even. I definitely look forward to coming back here in the spring.

Christine B.

Yelp
I love this local beer garden! They have plenty of different brews on tap and really good food. Recently splurged on the poutine and it was pretty amazing and a really large portion that was perfect for sharing. I did get a piece of lemon chess pie that was pretty disappointing but my friend got some kind of berry pie that was great. So wrong choice on my part. If I lived in walking distance would go all the time!

Beach G.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots. Excellent sandwiches, tacos and more. Perfect spot to bring the kids or have a bite and beer on the patio. Many times stopped at the outdoor or indoor bar to have a chat with friends or date and don't have to yell or spend a fortune. Great beer and wine selection. Yummy food. Outstanding selection inside to grab and go too. Plenty of party in the back.

Yelp
Disclaimer: we came here for DC Burger Week 2019, and I will be basing my review solely on the burger. The seating was in a divey bar, and the service was ... lacking. I ordered two of the Burger Week burgers (which one bartender was unaware of and another was unsure as to whether it was even being made), which came with bagged chips. The burgers were bratwurst patties with a stone ground mustard ale cheese and pickled onions on a pub bun. The mustard-ale cheese made the burger really delicious, and as far as uniqueness goes, it gets high marks - I'd have never thought of making a patty out of bratwurst, and it held up well, along with being massively flavorful. The pickled onions were a nice tangy reprieve from the richness, though I wish there had been more. Overall, our experience was very mediocre. The burger was good but not good enough to return, and since we aren't beer drinkers, there's not a lot of reason for us to go back.

Yelp

Yelp
A couple of things to preface this review: #1. I wish I was able to give 2.5 stars instead of 3. That would be more accurate. #2. It's often said the people only do a Yelp review if they are unhappy and had a negative experience. In light of that observation. I do want to point out that I have been to Westover Beer Garden many, many times and 99% of my experiences were 4-5 star in nature, which makes this review no pleasure to write. Recently, I ordered the bacon bleu burger for pickup, along with fries and hot wings. I realize that Covid has impacted businesses greatly (especially those that serve food) and that in some cases perhaps corners had to be cut somewhat in order to make ends meet. But, the burger I received bore zero relation to what I had been used to getting.. It was about half the size, with a tiny strip of bacon and almost no bleu cheese. Also, I asked to it to be cooked medium and it was well done and not seasoned at all. For $17 this was a tremendous disappointment. Honestly, I could have got a far superior burger at Wendy's. The fries were good. The wings were a good quantity and well prepared but again, not the same as previously experienced. Closer to a standard Buffalo sauce rather than the savory, much better seasoned wings that I am used to from this place. With so many options available and some restaurants actually upping their game to attract and keep customers, it makes it difficult to imagine going back to Westover Beer Garden for food anytime soon. And that's something I'm sad to say, as I really do like this place. Perhaps just an off night?

Sol B.

Yelp
Really hit or miss here in terms of service and food - but usually more miss. They have a great outdoor venue with a number of rotating beers on tap (and even more inside). Their food offerings are tasty and they have quite the variety of appetizers and sandwiches to choose from. However they can't seem to deliver food consistently - whether that's within 30 minutes or appetizers before main course or even whether fully cooked. Their staff is friendly but not overly so as you'd might expect from a neighborhood watering hole. Oftentimes they feel rushed and bothered. I wish I could say this was due to the pandemic but they have always suffered from these flaws. The beer garden vibe and the chance for an "on night"of good food, great beer and friendly service has us coming back every few months, but usually we end up leaving disappointed.

Stephen Y.

Yelp
I went to the restaurant with family. Ordered the bulgogi platter, hamburger, and steak and cheese. Overall the food was decent but nothing special. The part that I was concerned with is that the bartender asked if I had a tab open and I said no, so I paid for my food at the bar without tip when I ordered. I left them a good cash tip. A few days later, I see an additional $10 on my credit card. Be warned.

Dorian G.

Yelp
Good food. We wanted to share an off brand bottle of chardonnay, But the bartender wanted $40. So we left.

George B.

Yelp
There is no Butcher at this location anymore. Shelf is always empty now or barely has any of the products stocked that they use to carry. 8/04/2021 They use to have a good selection until recently. I only came to this shop for the butcher shop specifically. But there is no reason for me to come to this location anymore The food from the kitchen is bland, below average and is $17 for a Burger ? Am I buying a Prime Ribeye steak grounded up ? Ground beef is one of the cheapest thing you could sell and they price their burgers more than a Steak and Cheese ? I guess it isn't even steak. Is it top round I'm eating or bottom round? It has to be a cheap quality that's touted as "Organic" on their menu. I highly doubt that claim. Not to mention the one guy working in the kitchen who looks P.O.'ed all the time and avoids you purposefully. Not someone I would want around my food, obviously doesn't care about the customer. Makes sense as to why the food isn't that great. The employees there don't even have a care in the world. You can tell by the cleanliness of the place and the fruits and vegetables are always old or spoiling. Must be the dirty air from the molded ceiling tiles. I wish there were positive things I could say about this establishment but there is no Passion in this business. Westover Market, more like Left-Overs Market. Overall: No more butcher shop over priced burgers bad customer service

Henry K.

Yelp
They charge more for a beer than high-end New York rsteaurants, and they serve them in plastic cups that are barely 12 ounces.

Brad P.

Yelp
Waiting more than 45 minutes for a grilled cheese during lunch hour. Kids are starving and people who ordered after us are getting their food. The only excuse we get is "kitchen is backed up". Still waiting...have always loved this place but either figure out how to run a kitchen or just be a beer garden without food. Update: after an hour, got my son's grilled cheese. It's a cold cheese sandwich. Other tables in the same exact boat.

Shannon S.

Yelp
Most patient bartenders you have ever met. Top notch service with just the right sprinkling of sarcasm. If you have BBQ or Korean cravings...come any time. They also have a protein-rich menu for Keto & Paleo friends.

Patrick R.

Yelp
Gosh, where do I even begin? Well, I've frequented this place since it's inception. Nothing but good times really. Great staff, phenomenal food and, of course, a lovely cold one [or two] to wash it all down. Around these parts it doesn't get much more real than the Garden. Heck, I've tossed back my share. The focus here is family. And it truly shows. Whenever you are in need of some shelter with wonderful taps and exceptional grub, don't hesitate to enter the Haus. Not to omit the disturbingly large selection of canned and bottled beers in the market. All Star Mentions: (practically everyone, current and past). Adam, David, Drew and Joe hold it down like a fort. Entire kitchen/butcher department is outstanding. Keep up the great work!

Michelle S.

Yelp
Cute, quaint spot in a quiet neighborhood. The prices are a bit high for a DC suburb ...prices look more like a DC price. However I love the rustic vibes and food/drink menu. Perfect spot when you can go outdoors but even inside is pleasant as well!

Ke S.

Yelp
Hands down, love this place. Need a beer? Local to the area? You need to come to this hidden gem. It is a beer garden and boutique grocer. Love the dual purpose and how it caters to the neighborhood! It's further out of downtown Arlington (Arlington is yuge! Who knew). I trekked down here with a friend, who drove me about 20 mins from the Clarendon area. Thankfully it does not have the bros that go with clarendon. Instead, it is much more laid back and caters to the slightly more diverse and older crowd. I noticed more families. The beer selection is great! And goes in a seasonal rotation. They also serve delicious food. Didnt think that was possible for a beer bar! I tried the steak and German dumplings. Both tasty and juicy. It wasn't badly priced either. On Tuesdays they have Taco Tuesdays! The taco I had was ok, but it was a fair price at Happy Hour. The indoor market adjacent to the beer garden closes earlier than the bar. Go early to buy your pick of specialty foods and unique beers. Then have a drink and relax at the bar area!

Brad S.

Yelp
Asked for a full pour (16 oz) of a beer they were selling as a 12 oz pour and got it. Great staff here with great ever-changing selections.

Rachel M.

Yelp
Allows children but not dogs??? Everyone loves dogs. Everyone hates kids. At least has off peak hours when dogs can come inside. LAME ! Cheaper prices for beer and dogs would make this place the spot. Otherwise.... 3/5 stars.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
This is a neighborhood gem that you wish no one else knew about. Although their beer tends to be on the more expensive side, they have great happy hour/daily deals which make up for it. Also, their selection of beer is pretty diverse and is always rotating. Pros: 1) Take an advantage of their happy hour/daily specials 2) Ambience: I'm talking strictly about their outdoor space. It has several picnic table and benches with a rustic feel to it. 3) Excellent/wide variety beer selection (rotating tab) 4) Can't complain about the food. It's not the most chefy or well-thought out menu, but they got solid burgers and wings, and I'm happy with that. Cons: 1) Pricey if you don't take advantage of the happy hour deals 2) Bartenders have always been friendly for the most part, but had some rough experiences with the servers during weekend dinner time 3) Parking: There's only a few street parking spaces normally shared amongst customers for the entire shopping center. Trying to find a spot especially on a weekend night can be a pain in the butt

Chris F.

Yelp
This is a really great place to hang out, especially on the patio. The patio is great in the summer, and on a snow day (they have fire pits). The beer selection is good, it always warms you up. The fact that it is in the little Westover neighborhood makes it neat as well. However, the prices at this place are like Jem, truly outrageous. I'm not a huge fan of being inside, but as I said you don't have to even in the winter. I ordered steak on steak night there once, it was pretty good actually. I've watched ballgames here outside (lots of issues with the cable and such), walked here on a snow day and come just to hang out with a large group. It reminded me of college. Its also nice because you don't get the typical Arlington bro crowd here. I don't think I fit in with the crowd, but who cares. I come for the beer and the patio. I can't wait to get back here!

Jisan Z.

Yelp
This place was the best. Honestly, I wasn't even that hungry going in, but it was Wednesday and they had steak night. I got the ribeye with mashed potatoes and asparagus. And boy, they save the best cut of the steak for Wednesday. That was probably the best steak I've ever had and I've been to fancy ass steak places. I was actually full but I couldn't put that steak down. I couldn't force myself to eat the mashed potatoes or asparagus because I wanted to actually finish the steak and it was well worth it. The bartender who took our order was a sweetheart, made us feel welcome and was very welcoming. The place had a Nee Orleans vibe to it and I loved it as I love the Big Easy. There was smooth jazz and blues playing in the background and they sold Abita beer, a New Orleans brewed beer. The location. Is a bit out of the way from a metro stop but its well worth the trip if you have a car and a designated driver because I could easily see myself spending hours at the place deep into the night. Love this place!

Steph G.

Yelp
I was in search of a beer garden anywhere not in DC. This cute little place came up & I went to check it out. On a Friday night with the weather in the 70s/80s it was extremely pack. The location is nice, the people were kind and getting their drink on. Price range of the tap was around $7-$10 but it was good beer. Awesome vibes & beer.

Alana M.

Yelp
Great beer garden with outdoor seating. Good beer selection (go inside their market for a HUGE selection of beers) Wings are AMAZING order them great deal supppper yummy

Buz G.

Yelp
Extremely glad that Westover beer Garden is still open and serves wonderful beers. The staff was friendly and helpful

Sarah M.

Yelp
Inattentive and could care less that we walked in. We go to the grocery store often for beer and thought we'd get the same customer service. We were wrong. Can't give the food a review because they never sat us or gave a care.

Kimi S.

Yelp
Sometimes hipsters grow up and have families. This is where they hang out. They have two large screen tvs so you can watch a Nats game al fresco and a small stage where live music plays. There are twinkling lights and random chairs strewn all about. They serve typical bar pub like pretzels and hamburgers...plus some random Korean food. If you want a sugar rush, the grocery store next door sells Pocky and sour gummi worms. They have great craft beers on tap and heat lamps/fire pits when it gets cold out. There are tons of random kids running around so you don't have to feel guilty imbibing with a baby if that's your kind of thing! (No judgement!)

Carla M.

Yelp
Our favorite Neighborhood hang out. The food and beverage selection are good, and the service is friendly. It has a lovely outdoor seating area and live music, which will hopefully be able to return sometime in the future. They did an excellent job during Covid, allowing us to sit safely and putting time on it to allow more people to enjoy the space. We also enjoy the selection of their market inside. They have a butcher and dry aged steaks that are fantastic. This is an Arlington gem.

Monica R.

Yelp
Love the beer and produce at the beer garden! The staff provide great customer service and their produce is quality. However, after the second time experiencing racism here, I'm so sad to live next door and I'll never return. Upon leaving, multiple people yelled racist profanities insulting someone in our party because they didn't finish their beer. Because they didn't finish their beer? It was nasty and I can only hope the accommodating bartender did something after we left. Regardless, it was weird, uncomfortable, unjust. Yuck.

Katie B.

Yelp
Two stars is only for the good beer. Bartender/server was extremely rude when I tried to order pulled pork sandwiches-- apparently their most popular item-- because "it would be stupid to make their most popular item more than once a week". I don't understand. Take it off the menu then...

Tim B.

Yelp
My experience here was on a Tuesday night. There we're quite a few other patrons but it was not crowded and the feel was very quiet and calm. Delicious craft brews abound! and I believe they had 12 on tap in total. My photo of the main list should be up but I am told they rotate frequently. I really enjoyed the mood lighting outside and the bartenders we're exceptionally friendly and eager to talk about the beers. If I lived closer I would be sure to become a regular. The folks at the inside bar seemed to be regulars and they we're friendly as well and we ended up hanging out there for a bit. Sorry did not try the food or the market, but I have heard good things!

Russ I.

Yelp
I walk there, a real gem (if a bit roughcut) in the neighborhood. Very good craft beer/cider/kombucha rotating choices. Outside in a hit day enjoy the large patio. A good selection of solid pub gourmet feed.

Alex V.

Yelp
For those searching for a low-key, casual establishment to grab a drink, the friendly staff at Westover Beer Garden make you feel right at home. A quaint, small-town atmosphere is hard to find in the middle of the bustling suburb, but I promise Westover won't disappoint! They have a fantastic collection of beer as well ;)

Mark B.

Yelp
The Westover Beer Garden, on the side of the building, was actually very "gemütlich". It reminded me of sitting at such an establishment on a spring afternoon in München. There's indoor seating as well. Family friendly place - many folks there with kids, but the kids were not annoyance as they can sometimes be. Networked system ensures outside tab and inside tab are the same; you can get drinks from either bar without issue. And a very nice beer selection. About 6 on tap outside, and twice as much inside at any time, but rotational, so be sure to ask for good suggestions from the knowledgeable staff. Friendly staff too - the whole place has a friendly, family atmosphere to it. This is a gem for beer drinkers in the Arlington and NoVA area.

Eric T.

Yelp
A neighborhood gem. Live outdoor music, beer under the stars, outdoor TVs with sports action during the day, steak nights, rotating craft beer taps, fantastic wings, solid nachos, on premise BBQ throughout the summer. This place is chronically understaffed despite not providing table service - so set your expectations accordingly. If you're bringing the "at a friend's deck party" vibe then you'll love it. Come here for the beer garden's unique personality & socializing with locals. Otherwise don't bother. Seriously don't. I'm here multiple times per week and it's crowded enough.

Esen O.

Yelp
This beer garden is very close to my house, its a 10 minute walk. The beers are overpriced, but they have a great selection. Sometimes during the week they have live music and its great! The food is great and cheaper than their drinks.

Rob W.

Yelp
So it's an ok bar I guess. Decent beers. Burgers however... definitely nothing to write home about. Best I can say is the meat was cooked to order or a little undercooked which is fine cause I like some red in my burger. Most places ask how you want it and then cook medium well no matter what you say. Not here. But that doesn't make a $16 burger. All you get is a pack of chips too. So to recap, overpriced, meh flavor, oh and service is way under par. Won't be back.

Cyndy K.

Yelp
Cyndy's Bottom Line: A great place to unwind and have a beer with the yummy double fried french fries! The bartender is very attentive in providing tastings of beer in order to find a beer of you like! Love the Abita Light! Monday is half price burgers. Family oriented. Lot's of young families.
