The Best Restaurants in West Chester | Eater Philly

"Free up a few hours Thursday through Saturday to visit the Westtown Amish Market where the selection of hand-twisted pretzels, freshly baked donuts, and other Pennsylvania dutch specialties are a dash short of overwhelming. Vendors aplenty, the market sells anything you could ever want from freshly cut flowers to local wines to homemade fudge. Be sure to head to Jarlan’s Poultry and BBQ in the back for smoked chicken wings that will make your mouth water." - Sam Herring

This place is awesome, they have everything you can think of. All of the little shops inside are great and the food is amazing. We have to get the donuts from the bakery every time we go, they're the best. The staff are all so friendly!

Amber Cruz

Google
Everything was good from the sit down breakfast, variety of options throughout the market, desserts, and smoothies. Definitely a must try visit for everyone and we will definitely visit again! Loved it!

Matt B

Google
This market is a collection of smaller vendors in an indoor hall. You can get an assortment of cooked items from smoked meats to hoagies, and a variety of other grocery items like baked goods, sweets, fruits and vegetables.

Google
The food was great! I grabbed some sweets to bring home as well as some BBQ for lunch. It all taste so good!

Sandy LYNCH

Google
The honey roasted peanut, the cream cheese, the sweet peanut, pies and the smoothies are just awesome. We've tried a bunch of different items and bought veggies and fruits. There are no complaints to make, everything was excellent from this market.

Telina Kirschke

Google
We love to visit weekly and grab their fresh baked goods, fruits and vegtables!! Their pumpkin bread with cream cheese icing is a must try!

Google
What a hidden gem. This place is very busy, and parking is a challenge, as it shares a parking lot with other businesses. The business isn't extremely large but is extremely packed on the inside. I would guess there are over 15 different vendors inside. There are 2 entrances/exits. They have hot food ready to eat with pretzels, hot dogs, etc. They have a sit-down area that serves breakfast and lunch hot meals. There are counter sales for fresh donuts, bakery, flowers, apothecaries, meats (bacon, scraple, sandwich), cheeses, meats (hamburger, steaks, roasts, pork and soup bones), pickles, chicken (whole, halves, legs, thigh, breast and wing), fried prepared chickens, deli style side dishes (beans, potato salad, etc), fresh produce and fruit, bulk candy, smoothie, crab cakes. You could spend an hour in there just looking at all of the vendors. It was very crowded but everyone seemed to be respectful. If trying to manuver with a walker or wheelchair it would be difficult to move around. The vendors we purchased with took card, I am not sure if they take cash or not.

Yelp
There are many things to love about a market. Going to markets is actually one of the things I enjoy doing most...especially when there's good cheese or bulk spices involved; it simply has this wonderful mystique about it that other places and activities simply do not have. The Westtown Amish Market doesn't necessarily have a dedicated spice section per se, but they do have wonderful service, lovely people who are happy to help, a clean, open atmosphere, and a MASSIVE selection of the best things that Lancaster County and the surrounding areas have to offer. Whether that be fresh meats, cheeses, pastries, pickled veggies of all kinds, or tins of other things, you are guaranteed to find both quality and value here, as well as a great experience. The fact that its location is also convenient doesn't hurt either; allowing those of us that don't want to, or simply can't make a frequent trek out towards the Amish part of PA, this offers all the charm and tasty delights you can find there, much closer to home. I have come here for many things, but my usual weekly visits are to the meat counter for whatever happens to be my craving lately; butchered and served perfectly from local suppliers, fresh and packed right in front of you. Coming from so close you can see it's not from the standard factory farming operations you will normally find at your average grocery store. Then there is also usually a stop to the fresh donut counter, with a multitude of amazing fresh-fried donuts waiting for you to devour. This is only the tip of the iceberg that the market has to offer. From several short order cook shops, to a restaurant, to a florist, even to handmade furniture, there are so many wonders to uncover here in a space small enough that you can easily navigate it in an hour or so, making it a great weekly or bi-weekly stop for shopping. In addition to the things I mentioned, you can also find select cuts that you may not find anywhere else, making it an even better stop when trying to prepare a menu or meal that may be a bit different than your normal routine. I come here for all my holiday recipes and have found it is the ONLY place that often has the very specific trim or cut I am looking for. So if you're in the area or a short drive, even from Philly, take a morning and stop here on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, and truly see what I mean!

Yelp
Here for one of the most quintessential American snack that is called pretzel (soft) at the Pretzel & Log House made by the Amish. With cheese sauce. I'm trying to stay away from carbs but it's futile when your other half orders these and you just have to eat it fresh and when I say I can't finish one I lie. I had to force myself to cover the cheese sauce so I stop...it's probably not the healthiest and here it's so much cheaper than Auntie Anne's (which I heard was originally Amish or an Amishbrecipe or something like that)... a stopover in PA, not too much off the path heading South from NYC.

James S.

Yelp
Simply the best. As you walk into the market you are "hit in the face" with the smell of fresh donuts. Won't eat donuts from anywhere else. Breakfast and lunch menu are fantastic and man are they fast! Hoagies are solid, the deli, poultry, pork and beef submarkets throughout the store are well staffed and all very polite. Cheese selection is second to none and the baked goods are the finest available in area.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Wow! There are so many options here. From premade foods to fresh meats and produce. I was overwhelmed by the choices in a good way. There are several different booths within the market. Most require you to take a number for service but some are obvious lines like the Pretzel Log House. There's a large parking lot. They take credit cards and Apple Pay.
google avatar

Les L.

Yelp
I am a frequent customer and appreciate this market. Can something be done to enable a faster checkout when the lines are long?
google avatar

Olivia G.

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE! It has such a large variety of homemade goods. Everything is super fresh and the prices are reasonable. The store has different sections for their offerings (produce, baked goods, meats, etc.) which makes it easy to find what you need. All the employees there are very kind and make your experience seamless. Definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Roxanne K.

Yelp
Oh my good the food and prices are to die for ! I love this place and will be coming back as much as possible
google avatar

Vivian N.

Yelp
Great food here! Love the smoothie stand! Wish it was opened everyday or longer hours on weekends. Great addition to the community
google avatar

Elizabeth E.

Yelp
This is a great market full of wonderful stalls with everything from fresh produce and meats to baked goods, dry goods and natural medicines and household products. There is a pretzel shop, a smoothie bar, and a couple places selling hot foods. Unfortunately beware that the grills close down well before closing time so if you were like us and planning on grabbing a cheesesteak, you will be out of luck. Come earlier!
google avatar

Krystal K.

Yelp
WOW!!! What an incredible place. They have every food item under the son in one place. Everyone was so nice and helpful. The products all looked absolutely delectable. Pickles, smoothies, pies, meat, cheese, candy, pretzels, etc. You name it... they have it!! Their prices were also super low. They could be charging way more!! The quality of the products was incredible too! It's a bustling market with several "store fronts" under one roof. The lines can be intimidating at some shops, but they move so fast!
google avatar

Christiane M.

Yelp
this place has some of the best food i've ever had. the sticky buns are genuinely so amazing you have to get them. got a quiche as well and cannot wait to eat it tomorrow. such a fun spot to get fresh groceries and delicious food
google avatar

Bianca T.

Yelp
I love going here! It's a cozy spot with a wide variety of food options. My favorites are Beiler's Bakery, Fisher's Salads & Pickle Patch, and of course the Pretzel & Log House. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. You HAVE to get a pretzel when you visit!
google avatar

Danny S.

Yelp
Classic style food Amish cooked, fast service at good prices. I had their famous rueben it was tasty.

Jeremy H.

Yelp
Awesome market!! Wonderful food selection that's also delicious! Prices are fair! Plenty of parking I 100% recommend

Shae M.

Yelp
Beiler's Bakery charges a fee for using a charge card...I was surprised to see the fee because I normally use cash (not sure how long this has been going on). I don't know if the other vendors are in on this scheme. I will be going to the Westtown Amish Market much, much, much less - if at all- but when I do, I'll be sure to take cash. I don't own this company so I refuse to contribute to their cost of doing business. For the record, items I have purchased were good and range from average to overpriced. This is a new greedy trend - a new pizza place in Exton does the same thing. First time I went was the last time. And I'm sure there are others. So vendors beware - if you tell me you charge a fee for using a charge card, then I'll tell you to KEEP IT.

Yelp
Food: all of the food I've bought from here is out of this world. Everything is either made fresh or butchered well. They also have dog treats which I love getting here Service: very kind amish people Ambiance: very amish vibes Cost: reasonably cost items Parking: there is a lot but its' always packed, we've never had to circle Overall: enjoyed the indoor outlet mall but for homemade food/snacks. Will come here for dog treats, fresh pastries, and butchered meat
google avatar

Yelp
I love this market... another favorite when we visit Pennsylvania! You must order a pretzel dog... I love the ham and cheese and my husband loves the pepperoni. I am so addicted to the produce section. I always buy way more than I need. the bakery... OMG The bakery - everything there is good but the one thing I must get are the Moonpies I think that's what they're called... And the ginger cookies are amazing too! Don't forget to stop by the crab cake shop... those are the best crabcakes I've ever had. You can get all kinds of things that are freshly marinated, amazing cheeses, donuts, and even Amish furniture. Make sure you stop in if you're in the area.

Yelp
Came from out of town for a wedding and wow!! More than just a market - they have fresh made bread, donuts, pastries, soft pretzels, cheeses, deli meats, a diner, a pet store, a home goods store and so much more! We had such a great time walking around and checking out everything they had to offer. We needed some breakfast so we got a sausage and cheese stuffed soft pretzel log, Philly cheesesteak stuffed soft pretzel log, and cinnamon sugar soft pretzel and they were life changing! You can see them make the soft pretzels fresh and they taste so buttery and delicious. Our favorite was the sausage and cheese but they have other breakfast and non breakfast options. We wish they were open on Sundays to pick up some snacks and treats to bring home!
google avatar

Megan T.

Yelp
There is a reason why is is packed as soon as it opens on the Saturdays! This place has THE BEST soft pretzels you'll find in the whole Philly area (yes I said it!) the meat section has some amazing selections. The donuts are drool worthy! We even got our rocking chair for baby's room from here!!
google avatar

Caitlin N.

Yelp
Out of towner over here! We had a great time walking around Amish Market for food. Definitely do not come here hungry--or do!--because you will buy everything you see. We indulged in the fresh pretzels and donuts, picked up teas, shampoo bars, and stone deodorant, and we couldn't leave without purchasing some plastic animals for the little ones. We'll be back sometime in the future!

SC L.

Yelp
Be aware of dishonest waitress in their restaurant. She tried to add non necessary extra charge on our bill ( fries should not have a charge. Only sweet potato fries will have extra 3.05 charge. But she tried to add the number on our bill). Menu says all the combo platers come with a drink, but she tried to add charge for the drink with our combo item as well (even though I confirm with her that combo meal come with a drink when I ordered it with her). Make sure you review everything listing on your bill before you pay.

Angela L.

Yelp
If I had written this review a year ago it would be different. There are parts of the Amish market that are great, with fresh food at reasonable prices, but then there are parts (like the donuts or bakery in general) where the prices are Astronomical. Generally the service is good with friendly Amish workers. They mark their produce down just before close On Saturday and it's a complete nightmare to navigate. My favorite part of the Amish market is Brenda's flowers.

Yelp
Where have you been all these years in my life? Can you please open one closer to me in good ole joisey? PLEASE??! beef jerky. apple fritters. pepper jelly. lamb chops. fresh strawberries. pumpernickel bread. Delmonico steak. BACONS! (their apple wood and black forest are to die for!) I can't seem to form a coherent review other than repeating those words above over and over. Now, can you please open one closer to meeee? Else, I just found the excuse to visit my friend in west chester PA more frequently! :P

Nick C.

Yelp
Why can't all grocery stores be like this? It has the best of anything and the meat case was the cleanest I've seen.
google avatar

Yelp
great food for an amazing price! the value is definitely there. however, i felt like i stuck out like a sore thumb. not sure what it was, but i got a few weird looks and a customer completely cut me off in line before i could be seated. pretty frustrating. i would return, especially for the delicious cinnamon glaze waffle! it was incredibly sweet, so it is definitely a treat. i liked it both with and without syrup. the chocolate chip pancakes were perfect! i would like to note the chocolate was semi-sweet, which was certainly the right call. it helps to add the sweet syrup to emphasize the chocolate flavor. the savory items like the ribeye omelette and the reuben are such classics that you cannot miss. Both have generous amounts of meat and it is seasoned to perfection. the building resembles a barn and the restaurant is sat in the middle of the amish market, where you can see local vendors and the products they offer. my personal favorite is the bakery! all in all, i would recommend coming here for a cheap breakfast and weekend shopping trip to pick up produce and baked goods. could be overwhelming for children and tight spaces for wheelchairs.

Yelp
We happened to be in the area and decided to stop in. As others have mentioned, it is pretty similar to the Reading Terminal Market in style. Only open on weekends, you can get anything from fruit to a hot sandwich and everything in between. While it's a cool concept, I do feel like you are paying for the idea of what you are buying and it the actual products. A Tuna Sandwich on a roll was $7 and some change. Peppers were almost $2 each. We got a small fruit tray for around $6. The cut pineapple was tasty though! Definitely worth a wander around but know going in that prices will definitely be on the higher side!
google avatar

Kim K.

Yelp
I cannot believe how much they have managed to put into this market. There are actually a variety of different vendors here, each with a specialty. There are fresh baked goods, plants and flowers, seafood, a butcher, dry goods, produce, furniture, ice cream and gifts. Tons to look at and explore. Get a cart when you get there, you are going to need it. We had a really nice time strolling through and finding this and that. I was thrilled to find a particular flavor of Mrs. Miller's jelly that I had been looking for. I left with a number of things I needed, plus some ginger snap cookies. Most of the prices were good, but a few of the vendors were pricey. The service was consistently fast and friendly. Things were kept neat and clean. There is ample parking, as they are a part of a strip mall. I will be going back in the future.

Sara R.

Yelp
Always very crowded on weekends. Great selection of different foods - produce, baked goods, etc. Extremely clean environment!
google avatar

Catherine B.

Yelp
So many options! Was my first time there but they really do have everything- baked goods, deli meat, pickles, fruit, you name it. Only open a few days a week and cash only. The donuts are to die for and so cheap!

Frank G.

Yelp
This place blows me away every single time I come here to visit, the variety of food selection and the freshness is absolutely top notch. I highly recommend people to visit and judge for themselves. The candy fudge and other baking goods are worth a try.
google avatar

Caroline K.

Yelp
Where do I even begin... this place is amazing. I can't believe I have lived in the West Chester area for years and never knew about this place. As soon as you walk in you are greeted with the sweet smell of baked goods that entices you inside. The produce, candy, prepared foods, meat selection, soft pretzels, ice cream... they are all delicious. I filled up my cart completely full before leaving. My favorite food items from here are the chicken wings (mild, BBQ, smoked), the soft pretzels, the candy selection, and the dinner rolls/bakery. Be careful about this place though, the food is so tempting you may buy more than you can eat!

John R.

Yelp
Good selection and services in a secure CLEAN environment. An upscale Booths Corner without 20 food stalls.
google avatar

Theresa T.

Yelp
Chick-fil-a who? Dunkin' Donuts who? Krispy Kreme /duck donuts WHO?! Let me start by saying the second you step into the market you are immersed and overwhelmed by the freshness and amazing smells of all the foods the market has to offer! I bought donuts for some of my family and they were so amazing- flavorful, super super light frosting that wasn't overly sweet, and all the fillings super fluffy and too overbearing. The donut itself is SO airy and soft. Highly HIGHLY recommend the Apple fritter because it's flaky, sweet, and the texture leaves you wanting more. Literally a mini apple pie Got my siblings the chicken tenders and we most definitely will NOT be going to CFA anytime soon. First off, these tenders were HUGE, and extremely moist. With CFA tenders there's not much meat to them, it's mostly the crispy skin but w the Amish market it tastes like a solid home cooked meal. The potato wedges trunk any type of French fries from anywhere!! They're crispy but also soft- could definitely use some salt though. I cannot wait to come back and try their BBQ wings!!
google avatar

Debbie B.

Yelp
They have so much at this market you don't know where to start. This place is an adventure!!! Everything is fresh and high quality. Everyone is friendly and helpful.
google avatar

James P.

Yelp
Pretzel and log house in the Westtown Amish market, West Chester, PA. This is one of my top five favorite places in the whole world, including fantasy worlds!! A Cheesesteak pretzel log!! Genius!! The difference is it's a pretzel log so they use a lot less dough. Very good ingredient ratios. Two bonus features that put this cheesesteak pretzel log over the top. 1. The Amish steak sauce. It's like a sweet BBQ sauce. I love it. 2. Beiler's Donuts. Right across the aisle. don't be stupid, get a donut. See full video at; 1. Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure YouTube Channel. 2. Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure FB page. 3. www.philadelphiacheesesteakadventure.com.

Hypnos S.

Yelp
Ohhhh lorrrrrrd... where do I start.. the amish market is just.... It's just... the bestttttt
google avatar

Diana S.

Yelp
Any time we are in the area when the market is open we stop in. I have been coming here since it opened and always had a good time here. We love walking through the Amish furniture section and checking out all the desserts they have to offer. We love their freshly made doughnuts and always bring a dozen home. Our favorite is the pecan pralines. Their pretzels are also a hit with my family. We love their cheesesteak pretzel. It has a roast beef with gravy and cheese that tastes amazing with the salty pretzel. They also offer frozen pretzels that you can bring home. We are going to try it next time and see how they cook at home. The prices are a bit higher than most Amish markets, so we don't buy their meats, produce, or market items. We mainly come here for the freshly made food. We stop at our local Amish markets to get a better price.
google avatar

Lois M.

Yelp
They have the best pretzels and I like them even better dipped in cheese sauce. I Highly recommend them!!!

Chandra K.

Yelp
The grill has the best corn beef sandwich!! I love the fresh produce, fresh juices and array of meats and baked goods. I can only go on the weekend and it's always crowded. Try a weekday to really get to see all the market has.

Beth B.

Yelp
my go to place for ultra tender boneless chicken breasts, steak sandwich meat and filet mignon. try the best glazed doughnuts on your way out. extremely nice service everywhere!

Karen P.

Yelp
What a delightful smell as you enter the Amish market doors! The doughnuts there draw you in!! They are even better than they smell!!! About a 1/2 cup of cream inside there cream doughnuts and their blueberry fritters are to die for. $2 a piece $9.00 for 6 or $16 for a dozen!!!! They have so much to offer. They aren't inexpensive but quality and freshness, organic, no preservatives make it well worth the price you pay. The people are wonderful and courteous! Definitely worth the trip!!
google avatar

P E.

Yelp
The market's front appearance is deceiving from many points of view. It looks small, but it's not. You would expect a lot of farm products, but not so much. You would expect there would be plenty of parking, but there isn't. Stop in anyway. It's work a walk-through to see if anything meets your fancy. All the stands appear to be Amish run: Furniture store, pet/garden store, restaurant, bakery, bulk foods, butcher and pretzel stand. If anything, go for the donuts. Don't know if it's the same Beiler's as the one from Reading Terminal Market, but they are similar in style and types.
google avatar

John D.

Yelp
Open Thursday-Saturday so plan your trip accordingly. There are a variety of individual vendors/stores/merchants within the storefront. Cash and credit cards are accepted throughout the building. Each section offers its own specific products. Baked goods, snacks/candy/spreads, fruit/produce, various sides/salads, chicken/pork, beef, dips, cheeses, donuts, pickles, furniture, pet supplies, toys and a variety of other things. All of the edible items are fresh and delicious. The staff/employees/merchants are very patient and polite. Don't expect the same type of Amish experience as you would in Lancaster but definitely plan a trip. There are plenty of made to order/ready to eat items as well (pretzels, ice cream, smoothies, bbq, sandwiches, soups, etc). The days/hours may be frustrating and lead to larger crowds but everything is worth it. Great fresh food and worth the trip.

Tricia D.

Yelp
Weekly Shopper here - for the incomparably fresh and healthy food - and kind service. Bravo!

Shannen L.

Yelp
This place has everything! Beilers bakery is one of my favorites they have everything you could imagine! The donuts are amazing it's hard to eat just one! Meats and cheeses are also the freshest around! This place is a great spot to stop and grab whatever you need Price rang is fair for what your getting
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
I'm not quite sure where to begin...which is exactly what I feel like every time I come here. The Amish Market is one of the coolest stores I've ever been to. I've gotten everything from the best crab dip in the world to my dinning room table - and everything in between: the world's best donuts, spices and herbs at a total steal, jellies, fresh produce, and incredible pickles (OMG the sweet horseradish pickles are to die for). The store is only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday so plan accordingly. It's best to go on a Thursday or Friday during the day to avoid the crowds on a Saturday (kinda like Ikea on a weekend...). Bring cash (they take credit cards) and your own bags if you want the easiest checkout process. Every department has it's own register and the lines can be long.
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Great food you cannot find anywhere else. The Westtown Amish Market was recommended to me from a business associate during a visit to PA. It's only open for a couple of days each week and Saturdays are slammed. Pretzels, donuts and jam, oh my! Coworkers loved the seafood and sausage pretzel logs and locals swear by the chewy donuts. The chocolate covered pretzels and local soaps and jams were my favorites.
google avatar

Tamesha G.

Yelp
LOVE this place !! Best food and buys ... beautiful flowers etc ..: one stop shopping at its best
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
Great place for super fresh produce, meats and cheeses, and pastries! We had a cheesesteak from the cafe, my recommendation would be to get it without the sauce. Otherwise, nice location, nice people, and a nice all around joint.
