Best wine bar in this area! Great seating options indoors and outdoors. I had a Bordeaux and the sangria. Both were excellent. For food they had good vegan options. The seasonal veggies in a garlic tahini sauce was absolutely amazing! My friend had the blood sausage and said that she didn’t know that we could make a good blood sausage in this area, haha. The bruschetta was average. Just not as outstanding as the other dishes mentioned.

Cute little wine bar tucked into Bankers Hill. Service was friendly and fun, which set a good tone right away. We ended up at a high top since we didn’t have a reservation, which was fine, though funny enough the place never got more than half full while we were there. Food was mostly average, but the bruschetta? Absolute standout — worth going back for that alone. Overall, it’s a cool local spot with a relaxed vibe, solid for a casual night out. I’d swing back again without hesitation.

I love this place! Ive lived in the area most of my life and have always walked past and finally went in, no disappointment! The food was fresh and delicious, and the wine was unique and interesting. I had red sangria, the red wine flight, and the house white and loved them all. The service was attuned and efficient, our waitress was kind and had positive energy through out our experience. The ambiance was eclectic and interesting, fun decor! 10/10 recommend!

Google
Great food and atmosphere, it’s a hidden gem, jets flying overhead while sipping the best wines… Jason was amazing working the tables inside and outside and at the bar. Tuna Carpaccio & mix-grill-plate (all protein) recommended.

Google
Great place for artisan tapas and curated wine PLUS killer happy hour till 6 even on Saturday. Their mango lychee sangria is amazing! Their take on traditional tapas was also quite refreshing - like the date hummus and the spicy aioli papas. Jason our waiter was super nice as well.

Google
I love this place! I discovered it on a walk one day by Balboa Park. I really love the atmosphere. I feel like I'm in NYC or a cafe overseas. The food and wine are great as well. My favorite is the sangria. The staff is always very friendly and nice as well!

Google
Loved this place! The wine, food, atmosphere, and service was amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone who asks about a wine bar. Great place to catch up with someone or have a date.

Google
It’s so hard for me to express how much I love this place! My friends also definitely agree; one’s even a regular here. We ordered during happy hour every one of the appetizers and a couple of entrees. My friend’s favorite was the guava quesadilla, my favorite was the hummus with pomegranate seeds, and the native who frequents here is a big fan of the bacon wrapped dates. I’m from out of town and have eaten at so many places but this venue has become my top favorite. The vibes, the wine selections, the music, the service, the flavors in the food—all of which made it a complete package.

Yelp
Love love this place! Great wine, great happy hour spot and the ambiance is so relaxing. Staff is super customer oriented and friendly. The steak skewers and shrimp were amazing. Potatoes were a hit. Seasonal vegetables were delicious!

Yelp
Great service, amazing wines and cozy atmosphere. They have good selection of bites to go with your wines. I love the intimate setting of this place and the server is attentive and friendly. I'd recommend this place for any wine lover, even for noobs like me.

Yelp
Food, wine and service are fantastic. Everyone is so nice, establishment is comfortable and clean. Easy to have a conversation (not too loud). Our new go to spot.

Yelp
Looking for a spot for "this" and yap? Wet Stone is your place. The ambiance is cool and vibey. The white sangria is to die for and during happy hour the appetizers are worth the price! Jason was the guy in charged when I went and he was so welcoming and picked one of my favorites white wines to date. I'm definitely adding this to my go to spot for both the week and weekend!

Yelp
Love, love, love! Came here with friends on a Friday evening and it was so fantastic! The place is too cute and Jason our sever was awesome! He was so friendly and fun! They have a great selection of wines and we all tried ones we hadn't had before. Their menu is great too. We got a sampling of a few different things like the skewers, flatbread and charcuterie board. Everything was very good. We will be back!!!!

Yelp
I really am torn about this place. I think I would give it a solid three overall. The wine is a 5 but the food was a 3. It was a party of two and we came here on a Wednesday night around 8pm. I would overall give it a 3 and she would give it a 4. I love the menu I think it was a great balance of starters and salads and small plates and more. I also really enjoyed the wine options as that was amazing. Ended up getting the bottle of wine which was fantastic. It was the German bottle called Konigshauffhausser and glass of Terre D Alter which was from Portugal. The Portuguese wine felt like it would be better off as a last glass to finish the evening or possibly even with dessert because of the chocolate finish. The place looks like it can fit about 50 people inside and another 6ish outside with the few tables and chairs they have. There's a decent amount of space in between tables that you get some privacy since it's an open floor but if you wanted to, you could eavesdrop on neighbouring conversation. As for the food. We ordered the following: Burratta cheese ball - 4 stars for the goodness of it. We ordered it last and it was a good choice to fill us up with one last thing. Lamb trio - 3 stars. The cheese and vinaigrette is what made this dish. I just found the lamb to be underwhelming. Without the vinaigrette it would have been extremely disappointing. Prosciutto wrapped dates - 3.5 stars again the sauce was lovely. And we were using it with the other items we ordered. But this dish was a bit dry. However I did see the potential. Churrasco - 2.5 stars. Well presented. Very cute. Perfect to share if you have a lot of other items. But I would say it's more for one person especially if you're a hungry person like me! The blood sausage was the star of the plate and the chicken was the dud. It was super dry. Not even the sauce from the other plate could help it. Service was super nice and pleasant. It would come here for the wine and for a nibble or two but wouldn't do dinner here.

Yelp
The wine, service, and ambiance are all excellent. We've been twice but haven't tried the food yet (although it smells delicious). Would definitely recommend a visit here.

Yelp
Can not ever go wrong here. Jason is still the man here with fantastic and pleasant service. If you can catch owner Christian here you're in for a pleasure. We ordered a white and red Sangria and a Kalimotxo. I enjoyed the Kalimotxo as it was refreshing with the red wine, coca cola and a twist of orange. Never go wrong with the Sangria. We shared the chimichurri steak on crostinis , caprese salad and madras curried tiger shrimp. All were very delicious and bursting with flavor. Another great evening at Wet Stone. Thank you Jason and chefs!

Yelp
A nice, cozy place. Good selection of dishes and pretty good prices. We ordered several dishes, and one of them didn't seem fresh, but when we mentioned it, they didn't respond.

Yelp
Listen, if you're into sipping good wine while pretending you're effortlessly cooler than you actually are, Wet Stone Winery is your spot. This place oozes charm like a Spanish guitar solo at golden hour. The vibes? Immaculate. We're talking rustic chic meets European vacation meets "I definitely read wine labels before I pick a bottle (I don't)." Whether you're here for a date, a deep friend chat, or just to stare moodily into a glass of Syrah like a mysterious poet, it works. The wine? Genuinely good. Like, surprisingly-why-am-I-nodding-this-much good. It's not pretentious, just delicious. You'll find yourself saying things like "I'm getting notes of oak and ambition," and no one will correct you, because we're all just vibing here. Staff? Chill and cool enough to make you feel like you also have a passport full of stamps and a signature wine preference. (Spoiler: I chose whatever they recommended, and it slapped.) In short: Wet Stone Winery is the kind of place that makes you wish you wore something linen and said things like "we should do this more often" -- because you really should.

Yelp
Extraordinary! The ambiance, the service, the food....OMG! Looking forward to going back & trying the rest of the menu.

Yelp
Had a delicious dinner here on Sunday. Started with an incredible vermouth cocktail garnished with olives and citrus. For appetizers we enjoyed the potato chips and warmed ball of burrata cheese with warm bread. My favorite main dish was the Moqueca a slightly spicy fish soup. A good number of shrimp and a plantain were included. A Nice combination. My husband loved his steak skewers. Our server was helpful with wine parings to go with our dinners and they frequently checked back in though the restaurant was busy. We live in Orange county but try to visit this restaurant when we can.

Yelp
Came in for a quick drink during happy hour. It isn't too crowded and had a nice intimate vibe. The white sangria for $8 was a great deal and tasted great. The owner is also really nice.

Terese R.

Yelp
In the heart of downtown, this little gem had great tapas and a ton of world produced wines. Our waiter paired everything beautifully, had great suggestions in wine and was a fun guy!

Yelp

Yelp
I made a rez for the three of us post wedding dress shopping & arrived here at 5pm & the place was already hopping and full of energy & ambience. Jason greeted us as if he knew us already and we were treated to a lovely evening of fabulous small plates and unique wines. We loved every moment of it! We will definitely return!

Yelp
Been coming here since 2018. Christian the owner has created a very cute eclectic wine bar with unique and affordable options, as it's located on 4th Avenue in the flight path and not far from Balboa Park; it's an urban hidden gem. One of my favorite bars to hide out in. Go see Jason as he makes you feel at home. The food is Panama inspired and is fresh, different and delicious. Today I did wine and this was from the producer, Umathum a Rosa from Bergenland. Rose is my jam and I love bringing friends and family to Wetstone.

Yelp
We went here with some good friends. We were promptly seated and water was brought to the table and drinks ordered. The service was perfect. They were attentive throughout the evening. I think each dish was fine. The steak was cooked well and came with a nice salad. We also ordered flatbread pizza and a Brazilian dish I believe called moqueca. A broth with fish and shrimp which was delightful. The Wet Stone is a place where you can meet friends, have a bite to eat and drink in an atmosphere that is pleasant and not too loud.

Yelp
Been wanting to check this place since i have heard alot about them. It was okay- not super sure what the hype is all about. Got the Wine flight ( HH), eggplant dish( delicious, it could use some pita or toast). Might stop by again and try more ....but so not not impressed. The service was great.

Ross L.

Yelp
Such a great place! The owner, Christian, was running the show when we came. Serving all tables, providing great recommendations, but also giving us space to enjoy the evening. Really tasty food and wine! The atmosphere was very intimate. Awesome date night locale.

Yelp
Wet Stone was a delightful experience. With dim lighting and romantic fado music, the food, wine and service did not dissapoint. I strongly suggest this charming place for a romantic date or an intimate dinner :)

Yelp
Wanted some delicious and filling....this place doesn't disappoint...fast service, great food, reasonable prices....if you want a break from tacos, pizza or hamburgers....this is the place...2 thumbs up

Yelp
Cute spot. Tiny. Have 1 table outside, a little bar where u can sit and look out onto the street and then some tables. The food smelled really good and looked appealing but we had just eaten. We just came for some wine. Had a couple glasses of red. Tried a Toscana and another one she picked for me just to try something different. They were both good. Service was good. Nice little spot to chill. It's pretty dark in there though. Major mood lighting.

Arlyn A.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Christian Gomez, the proprietor, offered excellent service and was very attentive to detail. The elegant, upbeat jazz music playing in the background makes this place a whole vibe. We ordered the beet salad, tomato bruschetta, and the guava quesadilla which are all delicious. But the star of the show was the seafood soup, Moqueca. It bursts with incredible flavors, definitely one of the best stews I've ever had in my life. Can't wait to go again and try the rest of the menu!

Yelp
I am so glad this place is still going post pandemic, and so happy to see some outdoor seating. While there are only like 4 or 5 spots, it's still nice that they have some. They have a tapas style menu and an ample wine selection plus some off menu wine choices. Everyone here on all my visits had been very friendly and knowledgeable and this recent visit was no exception. Based on our server's recommendation, I ended up trying the Bonnamy Crement dLoire which was a white sparkling wine. It was a very refreshing and went so well with all of the plates that we got. For food, we started off with the Roasted Marcona Almonds & Mediterranean Olive mix. I am not a fan of olives, but the BF really likes them and enjoyed these as well. I love Marcona almonds and the dish was a great start to our tapas. Next we had the Cheese Trio plate served with warm bread and we opted in to the additional 3 meats to be added to the plate. For the cheeses, there was a Manchego which I love and was delicious and two softer cheeses. A goat cheese, that was a little spreadable and a tad funky. That one was also good and the "funkiness" wasn't overwhelming. And the third was a funky and creamy sheep's milk cheese which was good but a tad too funky for me. The BF thought it was the best thing ever though. For meat, they had prosciutto, slices of Merguez Sausage, and little steak bites. All were delicious . For our next course we had the Spanish chorizo Cantimpalitos. Which were almost like cocktail hotdog size salchichas served with bread and Dijon mustard. These were so good. For our fourth course we had the Smoked Salmon bocadito trio which was smoked salmon on top of a piece of burrata on top of mashed avocado all on a piece of marble rye toast. I tried it. I am not a huge fan of smoked salmon. It was ok for me. The burrata was yummy. My BF liked it but felt it needed a little more acidity since the ingredients were all very rich. We will definitely be back and we were already plotting which of our friends we will invite next.

Yelp
This is my favorite wine bar ever and to be honest Jason is the reason it's so fantastic! When you walk in and he knows what you like and he has the best suggestion for you, and it's always on point it just makes you want to go back again and again and again!
google avatar

Yelp
Most definitely a hidden gem in San Diego! I love coming here for the quaint, comfy setting that at the same time isn't too casual. It's great for a romantic date, but also for catching up with a small group of friends. I have been here 3 or 4 times now, and the staff is always so nice and helpful. They are knowledgeable about their food and wine and are happy to make suggestions. Most of the food options are tapas, so it's great for sharing and trying multiple options because everything is so good. But there are definitely dishes you could order for yourself as well. I love that it's globally inspired, so if you aren't into only Spanish style tapas, there are plenty of other choices. If you go on a weekend, I would highly suggest reservations. It is a small restaurant. I can't wait for my next trip back!

Single Gal S.

Yelp
A darling establishment. I've lived here for six years and I had never heard about it or seen it before. Angie did a great job. I asked her for a blind white wine tasting, and told her some of the wines that I do like to drink. She did a great job and introduced me to three very tasty new wines. I'm looking forward to going back.

Yelp
what a fun place to visit after work - great food, I mean really great food, great ambience, and our waiter, Jason, is the best! A little taste of San Francisco right here in Bankers Hill......very loud though as the evening progressed - could not hear myself think or talk which is the only downside. I highly recommend.

Yelp
I like the façade of Wets Stone, which has a colorful and funky look that beckons the passerby inside. I was initially the only person in the dining room on the Tuesday evening of my visit [with reservations] at about 5:00 p.m. A sign at the door stated "masks required" which caught me by surprise since no other restaurant I visit requires that anymore and my mask was in the car quite a ways away. Accordingly, I took a chance and walked in and was seated without comment. I had read about the wine flights so I began with that. I inquired of the selection and was advised there would be a red, a white and a sparkling (white) wine. I did not care for the manner in which the wine [two-ounce pours] was served in three test tubes sunk into a wooden base. It seemed kitsch and gimmicky. I would have preferred a regular but small glass and a three-ounce pour---they can raise the price if necessary, that would not be an issue. It was also strange, especially for a wine bar that presumably focuses on the enjoyment of wine, that I was expected to drink all three wines in the same one glass that was offered. When I requested three separate glasses, the server looked at me with just the slightest air of exasperation, but he delivered the requested three glasses [of different sizes, which was not a problem]. I enjoyed the skewered beef for dinner. After dinner, when I inquired about the availability of espresso, the server initially stated they had it. However, when I pressed further, he commented it really wasn't espresso and he was particular about his coffee and he did not like it. Accordingly, I skipped the coffee, requested the final check and left wine bar.

Yelp
My friend and I were celebrating our birthdays here and got seated in the cute patio! We started of with a couple glasses of sparkling Malbec and they were a great start to our dinner. Complimentary chips were brought out shortly after. We shared the curried tiger shrimp, marguez lamb sausage, and tuna carpaccio. The tuna carpaccio was my favorite! I loved the thin sizes and toasted baguette pieces it came with. The lamb sausage was a little dry though. We also got the wine flights that came in test tubes! This was such a neat idea. She opted for the Unti Rose, Gruner Vetline, and Mencia. I chose two white sangrias and one red sangria for my flight. Both sangrias were very refreshing! I would get a big glass of the white one next time. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate guava bread pudding. It was delicious and a great ending to our night. I will be back to try the other menu items as well.

Yelp
In my past, I have walk by here numerous time but never step in until yesterday. In the past, I know it was a cafe of some sort. Coming inside and discovering its ambiance and chill vibes. Meeting new groups of people and was delighted that this place packed such delicate and a Beautiful vibes with its tastes of dishes with the happy hours on a Sunday nights! The server was very attentive to our table, and smelled of the food cooking behind the counter, have kept my mouth watering! I started with a blind wine flight with the eggplant dish. The rose wine definitely compliments the eggplant flavor dish. Then I order the flatbread to go with the white sangrias & the mussels with chips!! I loved how this place mixed up the typical dish to a new level of fun which delighted my taste buds. That's a definite plus in my book. My last dish I order was the hummus with the pita bread. Washing it down with the aqua Fresca. This places fusion of many different countries wines and tasty dishes...

Yelp
This is a small and comfortable place for a nice glass of wine and a light bite to eat. We had a reservation at 5 pm and it quickly filled up with customers. I had the white sangria which was refreshing and not overly sweet. The pesto pizza was more cheese on flatbread. There was very little pesto. It was a bit disappointing, but still edible. It's a dark, romantic kind of ambiance and they do abide by the 90 minute drinking/eating period. Reservations are recommended. Some walk-ins left because there wasn't any available tables. Our server was friendly and there were no delays in getting our drinks and food.

Nell B.

Yelp
Imagine a place with top-notch, eclectic wines, plus delicious food, and an attitude that, while cool, is not at all self-conscious. Friendly, knowledgeable people that go the extra mile to recommend things to you, while making the whole experience feel cool and laid back. It's the kind of neighborhood gem you would be lucky to find in any city. The Portuguese wines are particularly well-curated and every dish we tried was delicious. Some standouts included the steak skewers, the tomato bruschetta, the hummus (and when is hummus ever a standout?) and the chorizos. Finding a wine bar that is both cool and friendly, where wine and food are equally good, and where you feel you could drop by and be welcome is rare. This is that place. Making reservations in advance is the smart choice but Jason (who is so kind and funny, you want to invite him to join you for dinner) kindly found us a spot on short notice, so try your luck and discover a real find in San Diego!

Yelp
Their guava quesadillas are to DIE FOR! I will 100% be coming back for that along with a glass of wine for a happy hour very soon

Norma S.

Yelp
Our family celebrated uncle Don's 93rd birthday last night at Wet Stone. The food pairings along with the wine, sangria and Bordeaux wines were superb. More importantly the service we received from Jason was over the moon! A special thanks to Jason from uncle Don. That Portugal wine and dessert made his night! We will return In the future. Norma

Yelp
I stopped in Wet Stone with my friend Rudy last night. Jason and Kia were there helping us with wine and food, they provided excellent service, the wine was tasty and the hummus plate too. Great spot that I just found out about, thanks!

Manni S.

Yelp
The Wine Bar was reserved on a Saturday night for our group of 60 people. Tight fit but groups migrated out side in front. Excellent service and tapas. Large shrimp, sirloin beef, chicken squares, 3 or 4 different pita bread cheese squares. On tables almonds and green pitted olives. Of course beer and wine were served. Excellent venue, enjoyed by all.

Kate B.

Yelp
Went to this spot with my brother and his wife from back east. Angela was our server and she was great. The wine list is eclectic and surprising but well curated and exceeded my expectations. Food was delicious and roasted green beans and olives with almonds will get a call back. Pours were righteous and wines were spot on. Ambiance was hip and smart. I will be going back for sure.

Yelp
I love this place! Great food, great staff, great owner. The drinks are tasty and the Liche Sangria is always a hit.

Yelp
Came for happy hour. Enjoyed sitting outside sipping my Rosé while I tied 3 small plates. Garbanzo and Avocado Montadito trio ( drizzled with tasty olive oil), Eggplant & Tahina, ( the pine nuts ) and Chicken & Chorizo Flatbread. Each unique flavors and fun tastes and definitely yummy. Will return to try some entrees. Did I mention our server Rose was excellent

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night and found parking easily. The owner was very accommodating and found a seat for me even though it was busy. Had a few glass of wine and really enjoyed the place, looking forward to going back.

Yelp
I realized the last time I reviewed this place was 5 years ago and I have been back a few times since then. We came here for dinner last night for date night and had a great time. It's truly a hidden gem in San Diego, and their food is consistently good. We ordered bruschetta, green beans, muke-ka, and crudo. Bruschetta with mushroom was a nice combo and seasoning was great. Green beans came with a spicy sauce that was kind of like hummus, and that was delicious. I think the only thing was the green beans were not as crunchy and were a bit hard which means it was not as fresh but nonetheless, the flavoring was great. The Brazilian seafood soup is something that I order every time I'm here and it's my favorite dish here. Crudo was very fresh and had some spicy kick to it. Service was great, and love the vibe here. They do have some seating outside but it can get pretty busy on the weekend so I highly recommend making RSVP.

Yelp
This place is the cutest for a girl dinner or date spot. Everything I've eaten here has been consistently good, everyone is so nice, the ambiance is amazing and their sangria is to die for!

Yelp
Wow; have been here dozens of times, but can't believe it's been 9 years since my last review. It's still one of our favorite wine bars -- love the zen vibe - plants, wood, cool decor, vintage cookbooks, cozy and relaxing, always with unique music playing. Love it when the owner, Christian is here, but Jason and Rose are incredible, too; so welcoming and inviting. Jason even poured us tastes of their Austrian wine today, similar to a Blaufrankisch; really floral and delightful. But most importantly, the food and wines are really great and unique. Today, we each had a glass of the Chenin Blanc and Monstraell (Mouvedre), which were both excellent, and a glass of the white Sangria (can't go wrong with the red Sangria either). At happy hour, just $7/glass. Then, we had one of our favorites -- the caprese salad which has some soy, in addition to the balsamic and olive oil, two orders of the Oysters Rockefeller - really delicious; the house special Chicken & Chorizo flatbread, which is wonderful, and the steak skewers, which were tender and delicious, all just $7 each for tasting portions on happy hour (5-6 pm). They have lovely indoor seating, plus nice front and side patios; definitely worth checking out, or coming back!
google avatar

Amalea R.

Yelp
Yummmm everything. Both sangrias are fantastic. Go with red for a more earthy depth and do white for brisk and refreshing. The food is all delicious and I love the ambiance. Makes for a great tapas bar experience and a good time with friends

Yelp
Really amazing wine options but just ok food. Came on a Saturday night around 6 and while there were a decent amount of people there, we were able to get seated right away. They have a really unique ambiance. Definitely a more "bar" type feel for a wine bar but we loved it. They have a chalkboard with wine specials, and I got one of the wines of the Austrian wines which was a delicious red. I had never heard of the grape before so I was pretty excited. They also had rose, sparkling and white wine options. For food we got the mushroom flatbread, pesto flatbread, hummus and pork belly. Unfortunately both of the flatbreads, while decent in size were pretty underwhelming on flavor. The pork belly was drowning in aioli and ate pretty salty. The hummus with pita was delicious though!
